8/10/18 - Initial Evaluation was planned early Friday Morning and immediately upon finding more dental issues I got a call to explain a new plan.  Then upon completion of x-rays another call to explain where we stand.  Following completion of the Treatment plan, a personal call from Dr. Boone himself!!  He explained all the steps taken, the next 30 days overview and schedule for pickup.  Upon arrival, was met by technician who explained all take-home meds - then again Dr. Boone met with me to ensure I had no questions.  Scheduled a follow-up in 1 week.  Attention to detail and excellent bedside manner made this the best experience (under the circumstances).  24 hours later - Buddy is a new dog - yes already!!  Thanks Dr. Boone and the whole staff at DAH!!! We have been bringing our animals here for over 20 years . This past year my dog developed a rash and this hospital has only made it worse. They keep telling me to schedule and appointment so I can pay for the check up again for a problem that has not been fixed. They keep giving her steroids and medications that only work temporally. The last time I spoke with them they told me to cone my dog to make the problem go away. It was only made it worse. Their cone has now given her a rash on her mouth. Read Less

The parking situation is not that great but the staff there are lovely. They are very nice and have always taken great care of my dog. When she passed away, they even sent us a letter expressing their condolences, which made me cry sad but happy tears. They really care about your pets. Read Less

Unfortunately, really bad experience here. Completely disorganized, repeated and charged for unnecessary tests, did not have medications available as promised, no follow-up with test/lab results. Nice people but very disorganized. I agree with the other reviewers that it is expensive also. I would have been willing to pay more if the service matched the cost, sadly, it did not. I will say that Dr. Bourke seems knowledgeable and does seem to genuinely care. However, overall, a poor experience. Read Less

Although my Rocky isn't thrilled about going to the vet, he doesn't try to claw his way out anymore and to think of it, they didn't need a muzzle to clip his nails this time.  Progress!  I love the patient time they give Rocky and me and respond thoroughly to any concern or questions I have.  I feel like my pup's in good hands. We got 2 new, but very different puppies. One is small, one is big. We were seen the day I called. The staff took the time to go over everything and wrote it all down for me so I could keep it all straight! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I have given this place several chances due to its very convenient location to us but we will not go back again. It's not due to the Vets there as we have hardly used them but for the costs and hidden charges we always come by. Anytime our dog needs annual shots or anything I always ask ahead of time what the cost will be. Every time we go to check out our bill is at least DOUBLE what we are quoted. Our dog has frequent ear infections in summer and when I tried to refill her prescription once they told me she needed an exam. I brought her in. I told them which ear it was and showed the vet. They charged me $75 PER ear to verify what I told them on top of other costs.   I would not recommend this vet as I do not trust the people that work there. Read Less

Would like to send warm thanks to Dr. Bourke and his staff for their wonderful care and attention to our dog. We were visiting family in Herndon and our dog had an emergency one morning. We called around several vets in the area, but none of them had open appointments until the afternoon. Dominion was able to fit us in in the morning and the staff on the phone made some helpful recommendations before we brought her in to be seen. Dr. Bourke and his tech were amazing with our dog (who is usually high-anxiety, especially when it comes to meeting new people) and they were really helpful in explaining care and in making sure our vet at home would have paperwork and info needed to continue her care once we get back home. We had our dog Jazz with another vet in town at first and they were outright nasty and rude at times. Dominion Animal was recommended to us and what a change. Everyone there loves animals at this place. And they are not putting on an act; they sincerely love what they are doing. Jazz had a few issues all her life and they took great care of her. She would always walk around to the ladies at their desks when I brought her in for a checkup. Just like they were family she would say hello and they loved her back. They were always excited to see her. Even after we had to put Jazz down they sent us a sincere letter of sadness - it was sincere, not a letter they had to send for marketing reasons. They always wondered if they would see Jazz again as she got older. At 16 years she lived a very long life for a Rottie. The doctors were always first rate and helped Jazz live a full life of 16 years! While we miss Jazz very much ,we have a new rescue dog now and will be taking her to Dominion for all her vet needs. Great place! Highly recommend and reasonably priced!! But more than anything else, the people the docs there are really the best!!! Read Less

Probably one of the most disorganized vet practices. Vet care is expensive and unfortunately you often don't have the luxury of knowing whether or not your getting a fair price or just plain old ripped off. They have good caring people working there but overall the place needs work Read Less

Dominion Animal Hospital took wonderful care of our shih tzu, Mickey, for over 13 years. The staff always provided wonderful care for him and greeted him like family every time he'd come in for an appointment. I have taken my dogs to Dominion Animal Hospital for years.  They are always friendly, knowledgeable and professional.  Recently I took my dog in for a kidney ailment.  Dr. Boone was so patient and kind with my "senior" dog and explained all the test results to me so I too would have an understanding of what to expect. I took our black lab Odie in for a checkup since he has been having some hip pain. We saw Dr. Bourke who was really excellent. He gave our dog a nice looking at and determined his hips are degenerative (not his spine or neck or anything). He gave us lots of options for treatment (the whole spectrum). He prescribed inexpensive pain medicine for now and was not pushy about expensive surgeries etc. Very clean and nicely staffed facility, its very good place, recommended from a neighbor. Read Less

We had been boarding our 2 dogs with Dominion pretty regularly for a year and a half without any issues and liked the facility and the staff. In October of this year, we brought the dogs in to be boarded for the weekend and gave the front desk their updated vaccination records as they had just received all their shots the previous day. When we returned Monday we found out the vaccinations had not been entered into their medical records and the vet onsite had re-administered all the vaccines they thought our dogs were missing. We have a 12 year old and 10 year old dog, and this mistake could have had very serious consequences for both of them. My husband asked to speak with the vet to discuss any potential side effects and was told she was too busy and would have to wait or come back in the morning. Being concerned he waited, and the vet gave little more info then if something was going to happen to them they would have seen it by now. After this discussion my husband requested a break on the boarding bill as the animals clearly were not properly cared for and was told the owner would have to make that decision. The owner refused to come speak with my husband and we were told someone would call us the next day, but we would have to pay the bill in full to have our dogs released to us. My husband paid the bill so our dogs could come home, and let the Dominion staff know we wouldn't be back. The next morning the office manager contacted me, apologized for the "confusion" and refunded our boarding bill. The situation wasn't confusing, it was negligent and dangerous. Please don't support a business owner that does not care about its clients. Our animals are part of our family, and they did not receive the proper care and attention they deserve when being left with professionals. Read Less

I have been going to DAH for about five years now for my two dogs, and the staff and doctors are very gentle, caring, and seem very knowledgeable. The prices do seem a bit high, and there is always a short wait right before an appointment. But the staff is helpful in reminding me about important check-ups and vaccinations. I am a slightly neurotic first time dog owner. The staff at Dominion are absolutely incredible. They make me (and my dog) feel comfortable, answer my tons of questions, fuss over my puppy, explain financial options, help understand medical issues, and provide the very best care for (in my opinion) the very best pup. We've been taking our pets to Dominion Animal Hospital 20+ years. The customer service has gone steadily downhill. There seems to be a total disconnect between the front office staff and the doctors. We had a huge issue last summer and planned to look for a new vet then but got busy with other things. Now we got the wake up call we needed to make the effort to find a more efficient and more caring practice. I took my cat in on a Tuesday evening because he'd lost his appetite. We paid $500 for an x-ray and blood work. When I called Friday because I still hadn't heard, I was told the results were in and someone would call me by close of business. I got the call Saturday instead and the doctor said he'd been out sick--as if one of the other doctors couldn't read a simple blood panel? He prescribed an antibiotic for the "raging infection" and I requested an appetite stimulant. I made the request twice yet when my son went to pick up the antibiotic he was told the doctor would need to see the cat again (so more money for another office visit) before prescribing the appetite stimulant. He knew very well nothing had changed with the cat's appetite and even had the nerve to write "take w/ food" on the antibiotic. On Monday we took our cat to another vet who hydrated and force fed my cat and sent us home w/ an appetite stimulant but it was too little, too late. We had to put my cat down just one week after the original blood test. To add insult to injury, the office called to collect on the antibiotic but never even asked about the cat they have been treating for 12 years. When I went to pay for the antibiotic, I asked for my other cats' records and told them we'd be going elsewhere. With zero compassion or interest in my cats, the woman simply said, "okay". Dominion Animal Hospital has been a part of your dog's lives for nearly 11 years. They have always taken great care of our BFF's. Our 10 year old Boxer was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Dr. Bourke, Dr. Wallace and all of the staff were so caring and extremely supportive to our family. Sadly, we had to put Prince down on February 28, 2014. My daughter Lauren and her father took Prince that day and met with Dr. Bourke. He was so supportive with Lauren. She said last evening that she would like to go and personally thank him and everyone who have helped us throughout the years. A million "Thank yous" to everyone at Dominion Animal Hospital. I can't speak more highly of Dominion Animal Hospital. I've been taking my cat to them for several years now. I first visited them after my cat was mauled by my neighbor's dog. They took magnificent care of my old guy and they discovered he was developing diabetes. With treatment and diet changes he's doing well. I've never experienced a long wait, not even when the lobby was full of patients. The Doctors are top notch and their front desk staff is friendly, courteous, and efficient. A year ago my family took our cat to this vet because he was beginning to lose a lot of weight. They looked at him briefly but refused to fully examine him because they claimed he was too aggressive and they could not do anything unless he was sedated. Then a week ago he fell and smashed his face up really bad so we took him back. They told us that he was going to be okay he had just ruptured a blood vessel and banged up his eye but no broken bones. Of course he wasn't eating so they were going to keep him until he was. The next day they sent him home saying he was eating again. Of course when he got home he was not eating, and he was making a clacking noise but they claimed it was just him breathing. Both these things turned out to be lies. Well yesterday he got sick so we took him back and they finally took a thorough look at him and said he cracked the palette of his mouth, and that his liver was failing from not eating. They told us that for $3000 they could put him on a feeding tube and do surgery to fix his palette. We decided to take him to another vet today to see what their opinion was. This vet had told us that if a week ago they would have addressed the eating situation they could have put him on a feeding tube and get him healthy enough to endure surgery. This new vet also pointed out that his palette was not cracked it was his jaw. Because Dominion did not thoroughly examine our cat a week ago we were faced with the fact that at this point the only thing we could do was put him down. So not only did Dominion not examine him the way they should, but they gave us false hope that he could saved, but he couldn't because they did not take care of him to the point that he can have surgery; they also were willing to charge us for something that they knew wouldn't work because they wanted to make money.
