Dr. Villar and his assistant Laura were amazing. They saw my 2 cats, one for a normal well check and the other for concerning symptoms. As it turned out, one of my cats was indeed very sick. They were so very helpful in showing me what I needed to do for her to allow us to have a little more time. Unfortunately, after a brief bounce back, our cat took a turn for the worse just a week later. Because she was in such bad shape, Dr. Villar and his staff came to our house that same day (within 2 hours) and helped to ease her passing. They took care of everything with the cremation and even did a clay footprint keepsake. They also sent a card expressing their condolences that week. Overall, just very caring and compassionate people. Highly recommend! We will continue using them as our vet. Read Less

Just had our first appointment with Juan and Laura and they are absolutely fantastic. Extremely kind, punctual (arrived right on time), very patient, great listeners, very thorough and professional. Asked great questions and talked me through everything they were seeing and doing. Very caring people who knew what they were talking about and worked well together. I was SUPER nervous and anxious. If you are looking for a vet with a common sense approach to animal care, Dr. Villar is for you. Our pup had a seizure. We had no idea what was happening and rushed him to our local emergency pet hospital where they strongly recommended multiple tests adding up to over a thousand $$$. Against their repeated concerns, we decided to let them do a simple blood test to rule in/out epilepsy ($200) until we could talk to Dr. Villar. He suggested we hold off on additional testing until our pup showed a pattern of seizures since there were so many causes, even a reaction to something he ate. Two years later our dog has never had another seizure!!! We love Dr. Villar's common sense approach to health care. Read Less

Cannot recommend enough! Dr. Villar and his assistant are super nice and funny. My cats weren't wigged out at all because they just though some cool new people had come over to pet them - even when my one cat needed an antibiotic shot! Also, I think the bill would have come out to MORE had I traveled to a stinky, loud vet's office (my cats can SENSE the fear in those places. No joke, I need like xanax or something to take the littler f*ckers to the traditional vets: for them AND for me). No more vets offices! House visits from here on out! Read Less

My boyfriend and I just moved to the Northern VA area about two months ago and were looking for a regular vet for our two cats, aged 3 and 4. They are both very healthy little fur babies, but one of them had some pretty bad tartar/halitosis issues, so we called Dr. Villar. I got a quote for a routine physical, pre-anesthesia blood work, teeth cleaning (including anesthesia), and, of course, a small travel fee. Dr. Villar's prices are more than reasonable and very competitive for the area. When he and his tech arrived, they were very attentive and gentle with our little ones. They took to Dr. Villar so well! They also did a thorough exam and were honest with us in the fact that they told us our cats didn't need dental cleanings, just preventive care. He even comped the physical fee, so all we ended up paying was the travel fee. I appreciate Home Veterinary Care's services so much and will definitely be using them as our regular vet for our little girls. Read Less

Dr. Villar and his staff are super! For the past three yers they have taken care of our pets--2 labs and a ferral cat. Having a vet come to our home is so much nicer for our elderly pets. Dr.Villar and his staff are very responsive. Often have been able to come and check on our pet the very day we called. These guys are amazing. I needed to get health certificates for my upcoming move, and decided to try a mobile service to save time. Dr. Juan, and his technician, were so good with my pets (and they can be a handful)! They were super nice and I was comfortable having them in my home. They actively looked for ways to save me money, and honestly cost much, much less than. I anticipated! They had some helpful tips and suggestions. We had to put down our 4 year old kitty and Dr. Villar came to our home on very short notice. We love our vet in Clarendon, but didn't want to stress our sweet girl out by taking her in the car. When Dr. Villar came with his tech, he eased our anxiousness about our decision to put our sick girl down. The whole process was calm and peaceful. He answered every question we had. Our two Standard Poodles, Jaycee and Odin, get top notch care from Home Vet Care! The staff works together to utilize their education and experience to provide the best possible veterinary care. We love that the mobile clinic/surgery pulls up in from of our house, it makes for very convenient treatment. The cost of an office visit is very reasonable even though they incur travel expenses. In the case of an emergency, they are just a phone call away. Give it a try, you'll love it too! Read Less

Dr. Villar and his team are extremely professional, courteous, thoughtful, informative, and all things awesome. We have 2 male cats that can't handle car rides. So when the time came to update their vaccinations were due, we called Home Veterinary Care because they are a mobile vet.I know people won't read really long reviews so I'll try to just say the essentials. Dr. Villar and his team know that people are busy and budget conscious, so he presented several options for some issues we were having. Our boys are 100% indoors so he was practical in what treatments they needed to receive. He and his team:- provided on-going explanations throughout the exam- gave us a detailed report so we didn't have to write everything down- LISTENED AND ANSWERED ALL of our questions.Their process is thorough, their prices are very reasonable and very fair, and they are some of the most considerate people you will ever have when visiting your home to provide a service.One of our cats was particularly stressed and they took care of him as quickly as possible. They knew I could trim him nails so they didn't bother stressing him out more. And they expediently took care of the other cat whose nails are hard to trim.I would recommend Home Veterinary Care for the most convenient, informative, and effective vet appointment you will ever have. Dr. Villar and his LVT (whose name I've forgotten) responded to our call for in-home euthanasia. Both were caring and unhurried, and completed their sad task gently and with compassion. They gave us as much time as we needed, then wrapped our dog in a shroud and carried him via stretcher to their van, and thence to the crematory. I believe there is no greater gift you can give an aging animal than to spare him that last traumatic trip to a vet's office, and we are truly grateful. Read Less

I had a tough time deciding to even write a review. Feel like I've come across Alexandria's Best kept secret Vet! Sadly we had called him when one of our dogs, who has no since passed, was sick and the compassion we received was amazing, it was like we had a vet on call to help our girl in her final days. Our other dog is terrified of Vets, TERRIFIED, he will literally scream going into an office and trust me I will be calling this office for all of his needs after this. The price was actually very comparable to vets where you go into the office and I didn't feel like I was getting nickle and dimed for everything that took place with my pet and that the care and focus was on her as it should have been. Dr Juan and his crew are great! Our aging Welsh Corgi always got excited when we took him to the vet's office. We called Home Veterinary Care of NOVA and they pulled up to our house in their mobile office and did a complete check-up on our family pooch. He left us detailed instructions on how to care for our dog and even called us to check up on the patient. He was very responsive via email as well. Dr. Villar and his associates are EXCELLENT. The whole idea of bringing vet service to your home is a timely and much appreciated one.I have two dogs. One loves car rides; the other is a nervous wreck once the car starts moving. Regardless, going to the vet stresses them out.Enter Dr. Villar. My dogs have had their shots, nails clipped, and other veterinary care with 100% less stress. Dr. Villar and his employees are not only compassionate, but they are willing to educate and work with owners and families. The price is right, too--compared to a "regular" veterinary service, I save anywhere between $50.00 to $150.00 per visit because Dr. Villar doesn't pad his bill with unnecessary charges (like a "holding the dog still" fee). I find that kind of honesty refreshing--and one of the many reasons why I am now a permanent - and enthusiastic - client.I totally recommend Dr. Villar and his staff. Read Less

I'd give this business 10 starts too if I could! I have an old cat who despises going anywhere, especially the vet. I have been using Home-vet care for over a year and have had home visits by a few of the vets and they have all been wonderful. Extremely compassionate and understanding and gentle and patient and they will even help get a terrified cat out from under the bed if necessary! All the doctors really take the time to listen and understand what is going on before offering options. They take the time to discuss various treatments, never rush you, are never pushy or bossy. Dr. Fontana has recently moved away but she worked miracles on my cat who had been over-medicated at an emergency vet hospital, which I wont name. My cat wouldn't eat, was hiding and losing weight and Dr. Fontana helped her with fluids and medication to kick start her appetite and literally saved her. I wont ever forget her kindness! Dr. Villar is wonderful as is Dr. Davis. I dont know what I would have done had I not found Home vet care. I'm not sure my cat would still be with me if not for them. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Davis and Gemma today when they came to my home to perform a check up on my 13 year old cat. I could not be more pleased with the service they provided. Taking my cat to the vet has been quite a negative event in the past. Having the vet come to us made the process so much easier and more pleasant for both my cat and me. The thing that I appreciated the most about the visit is that the doctor and vet tech were clearly there to provide the best possible care to my cat. They did not try to upsell me or pressure me to add on additional services that I did not need. We made the incredibly difficult decision to have our beloved dog put to sleep. He was nearly 14 years old and significant pain from arthritis. They were at our home within an hour and handled both me with and our dog grace and professionalism. The made our last moments with our dog comfortable. They gently explained to me what they were going to do and what to expect. It was a horrible day, but I am deeply grateful to them. When it became clear that my old cat's lung cancer was suffocating him and he was in pain, Dr. Villar made time at the end of his day on short notice to come handle the euthanasia. During the phone call and the visit itself, he was so very kind, compassionate for both the animal and its people, and so gentle. He did not rush things and took time to explain what he was going to do and what it would mean. Scout had to always be dragged into the vets office, so I knew when the time came, the last kindness I could do for him was NOT to take him there. It took several phone calls to find a vet that would perform in-home euthanasia for my 14 year old fur baby, but I finally found Dr. Laura Fontana. We just put down our beloved dog, Scooter, who I've had since she was a puppy. She was almost 16. It was an incredibly hard decision to make. Her health was really declining and I didn't want her to suffer.I thought it would be least amount of stress on Scooter to do it at home. This was the first time I used this business, and I was impressed. From the time I emailed them to the time they walked out the door, they handled the situation with a sense of grace, professionalism, and sensitivity. I know vets get in the business to help animals and that it must be hard on them as well. We were crying from the minute they walked in the door to the time they left. Dr. Villar is wonderful. I wish I knew about his business earlier. I had a similar experience as the other poster. We had a nineteen year old cat who was very fearful of the vet's office. When it came time to say goodbye, I didn't want his last memories to be of the vet's office. We made an appointment with Dr. Villar and he came to the house in a mobile vet's office and brought a vet tech along with him. It was a horrible time for me, extremely emotional, but Home Veterinary Care was so kind, caring and sympathetic that it definitely made the best of a bad situation. He handled the whole thing in such a soft, compassionate, quiet and dignified manner and was very considerate to both the cat and to my feelings throughout. Dr. Villar came to my house to look after my sick dog. It turned out that she was so sick that probability of recovery would be extremely low. Dr. Villar was very sympathetic, and laid out all the options, including the level of comfort or discomfort my dog would experience during any treatment. His assistant was equally as compassionate and helpful. Once the decision was made that putting my dog to sleep would be more humane than put her through a treatment that didn't guarantee survival. Even if she survived Dr. Villar conveyed that she would not live long and would still be very high levels of pain. He allowed time for my grandmother to say goodbye, and gave me time to say my goodbyes. He also gave me the option of staying with my dog, as I held her head. I also appreciated the fact that he uses a two step process as opposed to a single habituate that causes the heart to stop. From a biological stand point it may not make a difference, but using the first injection to induce sleep or coma followed by the habituate which stopped her heart made it easier for me, and hopefully for my dog.I would recommend him 100x over, and can't say enough how they handled the situation. Especially because he was just as shocked as I was about the condition of my dog. Read Less
