Over the years we have brought many cats to McLean Animal Hospital. We used to have Dr. Wesson as our vet and loved him, his kindness, the loving manner he had with our cats and how caring and conscientious he always was dealing with us. All that time I would have rated MAH a 5 star hospital. Recently we met Dr. Salkeld and were again very pleased, would have rated her and our visit a 5 star as well. Yesterday's visit, however, I rate a 1 star, not because of the friendly and always busy front desk, they are always great, and not because of the LVT Magersa, he was diligent, hard working and kind and tried to help us but because of Dr. Catherine Malehorn who only rated 1 star, at most.I called early in afternoon and spoke to a nice gentleman at the front desk and told him my male cat was having problems urinating. He told me to bring him in. He told me of the extra charge for the Sunday Emergency fee, and warned me that if my cat began to vomit I should rush him in because time was of the essence. He began vomiting I quickly took him in.We were rushed in to an examining room, Dr. Malehorn came in, took the cat to the back, barely speaking to us, came back talking to me about x-rays, possible tumors, etc... When I pointed out to her that this was not the first time this had happened to him, that Dr. Wesson had treated him before for this, it had been a UTI with crystals present, she made excuses that she was busy, hadn't looked at the chart and left again. Then she came back and said she would need a bunch of test before they could sedate and catherize the cat. When I asked if the bloodwork and urinalysis could be sent out because I knew from Dr. Wesson, in house cost a lot more and I was really strapped for cash. She said no, she couldn't unblock him until she had the results of the blood test and that his bladder was huge and the problem was it was so full it could burst. That if I had problems with money she would send someone in to talk to me about my options. (This was the last I ever saw of her!) That is when we me met Magersa, the LVT, he worked with me trying to bring the cost down from a 3 day stay of over $3000 to doing the procedure and taking our baby home which still cost $1000. He was very caring and tried his best but we just couldn't get to the point where I could find enough money to pay for this. At this point we had already been there over 2 hours and our baby in the back room somewhere. Magersa went to try to talk to his manager about what kind of payments they might accept, only to come back with a no. We asked to see out kitty. We were horrified to find that they had removed him from his warm, towel filled comfy soft carrier and left him in this cold, empty metal cage. Our baby was alone, huddled in a corner, terrified, his bladder just as full as 2.5 hours earlier. When we concluded that we couldn't afford the sedation and catherization. Magersa told me that they would insert a needle in his bladder and at least relieve him of the excess urine, a procedure called cystocentesis. To give him some relief from his pain. And tomorrow I would have to find another solution. Dr. Malehorn, never came to see me, didn't ever speak to me. So she sent me on my way almost 3 hours later, having done a procedure to give my cat some relief that she could've given him 5 minutes after we walked in when she told me that he was in danger of his bladder rupturing which would've caused his death. She had no pity towards him. I believe she behaved like he was a cash cow.I found her behavior deplorable. This is the way a doctor values her clients, both animals and people? McLean Animal Hospital needs to be better than this. I'm very disappointed in this doctor and that McLean Animal Hospital condones her behavior. Read Less
