Total rip off. My vet was unexpectedly closed today and I really needed IV administration kit for my cat with kidney failure. They charged me 30$ for only the tube part. I pay 4$ for it at my vet.

Sadly can only do 1 star should be no starsPeople are nice place is clean but why wouldn't it be if they want your money and want you to come back.I have been taking my dog in for a year now for anal glands. They have told me every time to change his food to keep it on one thing. I have gave him Benadryl ,zrtec we have tried it all no real reason that it's only food at this point I give my dog nothing still comes up. now it's every month 2 every 2 weeks. I didn't mind the money I only wanted my dog to be ok. it's true that if you want a good job you have to schedule a appointment because when I didn't I would be back the next day they wouldn't do it right. They don't know anything about allergies they never gave me any pain killers no anti inflammatory nothing if you take your pet tell them that you want to escort them and see for yourself you can I wasted a year. My dogs only 7 if I keep up with there bullshit he's not going to be happy The start of the year came I had gone to this place 9 times in the past year I called and asked if I could bring him in and if they could please bill me because I lost my wallet. I always go past the bank on my way to them always pay in cash. They told me they could not help me to find a way to get the money that maybe someone can let me barrow it they take cards and checks. At this point they got me so mad my dog is screaming in pain can't take him outside was trying to fix all my accounts in the morning they where locked out. At that point I see that they don't care for my dogs health they could have taken me to court if I didn't pay I would have been fine with that because all I wanted was my dog to be okay. If your an emergency they will not help you if you forgot or lost your wallet. They called me after this to ask if my dogs okay after this last time I told them that I'm not going to them anymore. Find yourself someone that care about your loved one not only the money Read Less

My rescue lab required a lot of work. We once had to rush him to the hospital because he couldn't walk and started to relieve himself. He was dying right before our eyes. The hospital did keep him alive so I am grateful for that. Him being alive is why they get two stars. However, as many others have said the location is really costly compared to others that provide equal care (if not better) in the area. My biggest complaint with them is my dog received the flu shot twice because they didn't review their own records! Then they tried to cover it up and after I pushed harder for answers finally the doctor admitted she had made a mistake. They credited my account for the price of the second shot (that I had already paid for), but not for the time with the doctor. Which is interesting since the doctor didn't provide appropriate care. I'm thankful my dog didn't have any of the reactions he could have had as a result of the double vaccine. Furthermore, I was over billed at least three of the eight times we went for care. Luckily they caught the mistakes and notified us. One billing mistake I can understand but multiples is ridiculous. I would recommend looking to other animal hospitals in the area. Read Less

Went here on a whim/last minute when our regular vet (Value Vet) didn't have any open appointments. From the initial phone call to walking out the door, the experience was excellent. I walked in and they remembered our call and greeting my dog by name. The waiting room is very comfortable. (I realize this is a perk for humans, but wanted to note it.) They took us right on time. The vet was patient and caring. She really made it seem like she would spend all the time in the world listening to me tell her about my quirky dog's behavior. While she did suggest a joint-related supplement, she did not push it strongly. Wrote down the name of the supplement and said feel free to look it up and if you decide to buy it here, just come back. No hard sell! (I hate the hard sell.) Got a few other things taken care of during the visit (e.g. nails trimmed), which was the icing on the cake. Some vets will only deal with the issue on hand and not discuss other problems at the current visit. Overall, I was more than impressed. We are considering switching vets. Read Less

Prospective client review for boarding and daycare.Highlights (lowlights?)-- Dogs are given 1 hour of playtime in morning and afternoon-- Dogs are crated for duration of time-- No boarding discount for multi-pet families-- Lack of understanding for bonded pairsSummary of encountersDAY CARE (CANINE CLUB): After moving to the area (from Arlington), we were excited to be so close to a facility that offered doggie daycare and boarding (certainly better than a trek across town to South Arlington). We went through the evaluation process and appreciated how clean the facility is. Then we found out that the dogs are only permitted playtime for an hour during each of the morning and afternoon time frames. More to the point, the dogs are CRATED when not at playtime. This was a non-starter for us. We did not pursue it any further.BOARDING (PENTHOUSE): Despite the reservations from the Canine Club experience, we decided to give ODAHC another opportunity for boarding - in the penthouse (because we do not crate). One of our pups recently had ACL surgery, and we were concerned about sending him to his typical boarding/daycare. However, ODAHC once again demonstrated how out of touch it is. Related dogs, even though walked together, are charged at the same price as two unrelated dogs. Our pups weigh less than 35 pounds COMBINED. They are a bonded pair and do EVERYTHING together. They free feed. They have separation anxiety when away from each other. Doesn't seem that ODAHC understands bonded pairs, and it certainly doesn't care to incentivize families with more than one dog. ODAH is a wonderful organization for pet health care. We saw all the vets over 20+ years we had our cat and dog, but Dr. Andrea Newman was the doctor we tried to see most often so that our shy cat and dog could establish a rapport with her. The front desk staff and medical staff are very helpful and friendly. When we were out of town when our dog was in his final year, we boarded him in the geriatric hospital boarding area where we could be sure he would be safe and protected. As our dog aged, the doctors were helpful in finding ways to keep him functioning and relatively pain-free, and when it was time to say good-bye I could not have imagined a more compassionate place to do it. My only hesitation would be that when your dog is young and healthy and needs a lot of exercise, their regular boarding facility doesn't have a place for dogs to run around. Read Less

A very nice, clean, welcoming place, run by a pleasant and efficient staff.Dr. Buck Drummond saw Ike and he (and everyone else there) was absolutely great with him. Dr. Drummond was very efficient, fully explained the treatment he prescribed (antibiotics, a spray, etc.) and also noticed a few other things that Ike needed (regarding an allergy on his paws). They provided all the medicines we needed, and the bill was reasonable and very easy to understand. We cannot say enough about how much we trusted Old Dominion and Dr. Drummond, and how much we valued his help! I was told about a program called Paws of Honor and found ODAHC participated in the program. (They provide care to retired  police and military K-9s free of charge) From my first and subsequent visits, the staff has been amazing! The first person I talked to was Cassie. She explained everything to me over the phone and scheduled my first appointment. I had a ton of questions and she was very happy to answer all of them. At my appointment, I met Kaitlyn, She gave me a tour of the whole facility.  I  could tell she genuinely loves her job and cares about the people and animals that come in for services. I've lived in and around McLean since the 70's. For decades I went to McLean animal hospital. After moving away, I went back there and was shocked at the additional tests and prices I was charged. I finally tried Old Dominion and was so happy I did. The staff is friendly. They encouraged me to come in at closing time even though I had no appointment. They removed my dog's stitches even though the operation was done out of state and then did not even charge me!I couldn't believe it. It wasn't the savings but the idea that they're not taking advantage of every single opportunity to charge or up charge me for something. When was the last time any business in McLean or Tysons refused to swipe an extended credit card? Never? That's what I thought. One more thing. They were not comfortable with certain procedure. Rather than book me with their specialist for a hidden fee, they suggested many options. Good job Old Dominion. I'll keep coming back and telling my friends. Read Less

Ok, not sure why others haven't given this vet 5 stars, but we got great service here! First, our cat almost died about a week before we needed to go away for the weekend. She ate an ibuprofen, but fortunately we caught it early enough and brought her to Hope near our house. But then we needed to board her, so we brought her to Old Dominion where they had the vet check in on her and the vet techs supervising her. They also followed through on tests, fed her the right diet for her special needs without making us pay extra, and then even brushed and played with her (for an extra fee, but that's ok). Ok, so she survived, but then 6 months later we had to move across country and just two or three days before she started to get the runs, and being a long-haired cat, this became a problem. Can you imagine bringing a cat with diarrhea on an airplane? We thought it was just moving stress, so I brought her in for a grooming, and what great care we got there. The groomer did a great job clipping and cleaning, but then she decided to ask the vet what we should do about this, given we were moving. Ok, the vet insisted we have a consult, and she squeezed us in just that day. She examined kitty, and prescribed us something for diarrhea, but also insisted we give a stool sample. Well, guess what, she had giardia!! What? an indoor cat with giardia??!! well, I suppose she could have eaten an insect that sneaked in and gotten it that way. In any case, we caught our plane two days later without any concerns. Kitty's diarrhea was gone and she slept happily in her crate for the entire trip, yeah! I am so thankful for the vets at Old Dominion and also HOPE for saving our Kitty's life!! But first off, I think the groomer deserves a reward for going beyond her call of duty to ask the vet what we should do about Kitty's diarrhea, thank yoU!! Read Less

I'm not talking "sorta pricey", but more like, "here's a pillow case, fill it up with $100's". The reason they have 2 stars and not 5 is the price. They are upwards of double the price of anywhere else. It's not even remotely competitive. You'll spend close to $200 for a 60lb dog to get shaved. The folks who work the front desk are incredibly nice and truly caring towards the pets. I left Old Dominion Animal Health Center after about two years and will never return.  It became clear after several experiences that this practice is specifically designed to separate customers from as much of their money as possible.  Recommended by a neighbor, I toured the facility, which is immaculate.  So we started taking our dog and cat here and initially loved it.  The waiting room is very comfortable and has coffee at all hours.  They also have a quaint little in-house pet toy store (although everything in it is overpriced).  And the vets seemed very competent and thorough. But after a while, I became concerned about the care they recommended and their billing practices.  They recommended a lot of rather extensive specialist procedures and assessments.  These expensive procedures were presented as the baseline of pet care, and the vets would make you feel that declining to pursue them constituted poor pet ownership.  I got sucked into very pricey orthopedic examinations and heart health assessments (finding out later that they do not even have a board certification in animal cardiology).  In most cases, the vets then delivered diagnoses for conditions about which little could be done.  In most cases, I sensed the outcome was known prior to the procedure, which then only confirmed what they already knew.  So I spent a significant amount of money just for an FYI.Both of my pets had several dental extractions and minor surgeries as recommended by ODAHC.  (I'm pretty sure my dog in particular lived partially toothless due to unnecessary extractions at ODAHC).  Without fail, every time I picked my pet up, the bill exceeded the original estimate by at least 15%, sometimes much more.  If the estimates were sometimes high and sometimes low, I might accept that they were made in good faith.  However, the final bill was ALWAYS significantly higher than the estimate.  They always had some weak explanation but frequently just chalked it up to "it's just an estimate."  It felt like a bait and switch. The final straw came when my dog went under for yet another recommended extraction.  We dropped her off in the morning, then several hours later my wife received an urgent call from the vet.  They stated our dog was on the table and under anesthesia for the procedure, but the vet had observed a "mass" on her ear that needed to be removed.  Alarmed and concerned, we gave the go-ahead.  When I picked her up, the procedure estimated at a few hundred dollars was now over $1,000!  Then I saw my dog.  The "mass" they had removed was a small unraised spot that I had observed several years earlier.  Our previous vet had diagnosed this as a benign mole and nothing to worry about.  In my mind, ODAHC tricked me into paying several hundreds dollars to remove a mole.  I was furious, and that was it.These folks are not just more expensive for a higher level of pet care.  They are outright shady and deceptive, and they won't see another penny of my money.

Read Less

I can't say enough good things about Old Dominion Animal Health Center. My first experience with this facility was a few weeks ago, when I found myself in a bind for boarding my dog,Oscar. Long story short, I hadn't updated his bordetella vaccination, and therefore couldn't board him at his usual establishment. Old Dominion not only gave him the vaccination, but also had room to board him. They were patient and glad to give me updates whenever I called to check on Oscar. He seemed happy and playful when I picked him up, and kept looking back at his caretakers and wagging his tail. And, to top it all off, Old Dominion sent me a personalized thank you card with a photo-sketch of my Oscar on it! We will be back. Read Less

I've used ODAHC a few times for both vet and grooming services. The reason they have 2 stars is because they are OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. The facility is also spotless and they're not shy to let you inspect it. If they were more competitive with pricing, I would absolutely go back there - it really is a nice place, just not worth the obscene cost. Read Less
