The staff is very supportive, personable and seem to really care for the pets. I would call daily and they shared that she was doing fine. My issue is the food. My little girl has had pancreatitis more than once and is on a very strict prescription diet. I've taken her here several times, always taking extra food but NEVER getting ANY returned. On the last visit, again, I had taken extra cans (at $3.59 each) and NONE was given back. Another client, who heard my conversation, told me she had never received food back either. It appears that the food must be given to the other dogs because what else would they do with it? Are the feedings documented?When a can is open, is it kept in a refrigerator and covered?I picked her up two days early and I was told her food was gone......so, what were they going to feed her IF I had not picked her up early? Extremely upsetting. I got my girl home and she was absolutely starving and then threw up twice over the next couple of days. What was she being fed?If your pet is on a special diet AND you don't mind them using your food for others DO NOT GO HERE. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Read Less

Have had good experiences with 3 vets here. They are gentel with my cats and never make you feel rushed. They discuss anything you would like to and are very friendly including other staff members. They are also understanding of external vet care. My mother in law often treats our pets however she does not live in the area, so we come here. They have been punctual for us at several times in the evenings. We have only had to wait a maximum of 5 minutes on one occasion. Read Less

After reading some of the previous reviews, I was concerned there were two Swift Creek Vets.  I could not be happier with Dr. Valerie Lucas.  My yellow lab has had some GI issues for about 3 months.  She has worked diligently to find the cause of her problems.  I have received after hours phone calls to check on her condition.  I received very thorough visits in the office, explaining all of our options.  I received prompt responses to my request for a quick appointment.  We have a strategy, a Plan A, and a Plan B, to follow through.  I have a lot of faith in Dr. Lucas' knowledge of veterinary medicine and in her compassionate  treatment in my pet.  The staff is quite helpful and I appreciate the professional manner in which my calls are handled.  Try them for yourself and make your own judgment.  I highly recommend. We have been using another more expensive boarding facility but after asking around on Facebook we found Swift Creek Pet Resort. I came in and toured and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming I have two older beagles and a puppy they are all rescues and on my tour I saw Ella the super beagle and poster child for the Sanctuary rescue group. I immediately felt better about this place knowing that Ella was being cared for by this staff. They asked me questions about my three boys and made recommendations about the best space for them. Today we didn't Charlie's grandparents weren't able to watch him and we were gone all day so we called and he had his first stay at doggie daycare! We left him with his blanket and toys with instructions that he needed to go out by himself. He was recently fixed and 6 days post op. So he had to wear a cone and not be crazy around other dogs. When we picked him up how blanket was returned and it wasn't wet and his toys were also clean! It appears he got to go out plenty and didn't have an accident in his cage. He was very happy and the staff said they enjoyed him. Not sure what happened in January I could not find the article reference by some other helpers, not sure if the review was for the hospital or daycare but my Facebook friends all recommended and I felt good about the staff I met so we plan on going back. DISGUSTING. This "business" is REFUSING to pay for the medical care for a horrifying injury that a puppy experienced while in their care. This is unacceptable!! Please tell your friends and family to keep their sweet fur babies far away from this horrible place. After multiple surgeries, plates, rods, as screws, this sweet girl will never be the same. After having to re-learn how to walk, she is slowly getting used to her new life, but her crippling anxiety and distrust have hindered progress severely. Businesses which operate like this are absolutely shameful.  You had one job, watch that sweet dog and make sure it was well taken care of.  Your gross negligence should not come at the expense of the poor owner.  How can you call yourselves pet lovers and treat a family in this way? Love the vet, pet resort is only ok.  Facility could have better pens for cats, but my main issue is I've made about 12 phone calls during the week I was out of town and someone only answered the phone once.  Where the heck is everyone.  Called vet side once and was told they were out walking dogs.  Called 3 times that day 30mins apart and never an answer.  Will try holiday pet barn next time. Very easy to work with. I really like how they attend to your pet's needs. I believe the DR's to be up front and truthful with their diagnoses. On most office visits the Vet will administer any shots right in front of you. I'm not a fan of vet's who take your pet out of your site, leaving me to wonder what they are doing. If you are anything like me, my pets are part of my family.  I believe we all want what is best for our "furry friends".  We've been patients of Swift Creek Animal Hospital now for almost two years and have been quite satisfied with the staff and service.  There is nothing worse than sitting in a lobby with your animal and the stresses than can come with that, such as foul odors, small area to wait, other cats and dogs contributing to the situation.  That is clearly not the case at this facility.  The waiting room is spacious, clean and nicely decorated.  They even have anchored hooks for you, if you should need to take care of business.Unfortunately, one of my babies is aging and having some difficulties. We continue to attempt numerous options for treatment.  Today, I stopped by without an appointment and the vet met with me to discuss further ideas.  She was extremely kind, courteous and professional.  She even gave me information, for outside services, on some alternatives that would be cheaper.  To top it off, I wasn't charged for the visit! WOW!  I really felt like she cared and understood.  Thank you so much Dr. Powell. Other tidbits of info, they have an impressive website, pet supplies and meds for sale.  My best tip, ask for a written script if you have a prescription and a Costco membership. The pharmacy at Costco can fill it for a fraction of the cost.  With the money you save you can buy the little one some extra goodies.  Additionally, they have a pet resort available, which is right next door.  Certainly seems like a great option, should we be leaving town.Don't forget the dog treats on your way out! We boarded our dog (who has many special needs) at Swift Creek Pet Resort for a week recently. They were amazing. I was able to call and check on him, and he was in great condition when I picked him up. The staff were very friendly and the accommodations were perfect. Loved the hospitality and how clean the place was. Service was excellent and the staff/doctors were very accommodating and hospitable however, I feel like they overcharged us with Oreos vaccinations. The Distemper shot had a three in one in it and they charged us 3 times. What foolishness is that??? Plus, the nurse had said that we would be charged only once because it was only one shot but when we got to the front they charged us three times because the vaccination prevented Distemper and 2 other diseases. I believe this needs to change because I'm my opinion, that's overcharging and unreasonable.Read Less

I'd first like to say that I am the last person who would ever think about writing a review on the internet for any services I have received....but I can't let them off the hook.  I only decided to write this after recently going to another vet in the area.  The difference in the quality of services we received was truly INCREDIBLE.  We just moved to the area, and after an acute incident, went to the nearest vet, Swift creek.Is it possible to give zero stars?  Wow.  We saw one of their newer vets, who was fairly young.  Not going to use her name on here, but you can figure it out for yourself by going to their site.The vet was not engaging, personable, or anything else you would want from someone who was taking care of your pet.  We brought our dog in for a wound. The vet barely greeted our dog or tried to make him comfortable with her.  I wont get into specifics from our visit, but we left the vet without him having a full physical exam and without her having tested the skin for infection.  The vet gave us 2 meds and a topical.  $180 later, we left after maybe 5 to 10 minutes of interaction with the vet herself.  The vet tech was nice, but what does that do for my dogs care, NOTHING. Now for the reason I was prompted to write this review.  We went to another vet in the Richmond area yesterday for a seperate issue, although he was still recovering from his other wound that was treated at swift creek.  This new vet check out our dogs new issue, the old wound, and did a FULL physical exam(CHECKED EVERYTHING-joints, ears, eyes, you name it).  He asked aboout prior issues and looked over his old records(not many as the dog is still less than a year old).  He was engaging, loved on the dog, and you could tell that he truly cared about our pets health.  The vet took skin samples from his old wound and new issue, and did the testing himself for infections.  The vet educated us on the issue after he tested everything, gave us 3 weeks of meds, and answered all of the questions we had.  We left his vet visit after paying $170!  So we had a full physical, skin sampling done, recvd amazing service, and were given more medications than before.................... for LESS MONEY. Our vist lasted significantly longer than our visit at swift creek.  We expected our bill to be MUCH higher than the one we got at Swift creek, based soley on the length of it and how much the vet did for our dog.Needless to say, we will not be going back here.  I am almost positive all the other vets in the office are better than the one we had(how could they not be?), and this review should not reflect them....But if they continue to employ the vet we saw, I highly recommend not going to this office.  There are better options in the richmond area that provide far better services for less money. Dr. Veitch and his staff have been wonderful! Since he knew our finances have been tight he has been helping us manage our cats' urinary blockage on an out patient basis. They were kind enough to give us a same day appt. and even though we were 15 minutes late for our appt. (we mistakenly went to the wrong vet, causing us to be late. We called to let them know we were running late) and he still saw us. Not only was he concerned about our little guy's blockage, but gave us something to manage the pain as well. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We've definitely found our vet! We highly recommend him! Read Less

My father has a cat whom looked like he was about to die, he just looked like he was in a great deal of pain. He was rather old and from experience my father didn't want to see the cat suffer. He asked if I could call around and see how much it would cost to have him put down. I called several place all whom seemed more so about the money and not the health of the cat. Upon calling Swift Creek the lady who answered the phone was very polite. After telling her what was going on she advised me to come in and see Dr Nofzinger so that he could do a exam on the cat. She said there would be NO EXAM charge only the cost of the medication to have him put to sleep if needed. Well I arrived, they seen the cat as I walked in and knew me by name and have never seen me before. The vet assist came in and took one look at the cat and said im sending the doctor in, when he came in he already knew my request and he said sooo tell me why you want the cat put down, I told him my fathers request as he did his exam, after he looked at me and said this cat is constipated thats why he is not eating any more and is why he looks soo ill. He said they could clean him out and change his diet and he'll be as good as new. I told him it was my fathers choice and he was at work. He asked if I could call my father so HE could talk to him. He said he did not see death in this cats eyes and he did'nt want to put him down. After the vet assured my father that this would work my father agreed to the surgery, he told my father that if this did not work that he would refund my father for the cost of the surgery and put the cat down for free! Swift Creek is all about the love for our pets, they are awesome people with a good heart. Since then my father has changed vets for all of his pets and to this day his cat is just as happy as he can be. My brother and his wife started taken their 2 boxer pups and I too have started taken my 3month old pitbull. I dont think we could have found a better place to go! Read Less

i am VERY disappointed in this office! i had slightly sick lizard i took him there a week ago beacuse he was just looking weak.... the doc told me he was underweight said the prob might be this and gave some antibiotics two days of the meds my friend stop eating completely and appetite was never an issue.. i called when the office opened told them i didnt think my friend had much longer please tell me what i should do the secretary assured me that the vet would call..... i called again in 1 1/2 hours she assured me again when he was done with his client she would have him call me...... my poor friend laid there all day with no energy and NO CALL!!! there was nothing i knew to do for him and wanted some advice it is now 2:06 still no phone call from the vet and my friend is now motionless and lifeless he will be missed ... i will NEVER go to this clinic again all i needed was a phone call two minutes and couldnt get that as i was losing a friend.!!! i dont know if it was something my lizard actually had or if the meds made him worse but the guess of this vet sure wasnt right!!!! The staff here are very pleseant and considerate. Because of prior experience with 2 of the vets here I drive almost an hour just to see them. I had a really sick dog and they took such good care of her. I could not have asked for anything any better. They have always treated my dogs like they are one of their own. Even with loosing a dog to illness, you can see that they are also affected. It is very apparent by their words and actions. Went somewhere closer to home for a while but was just not the same environment for my dogs or me. It is worth the drive to have piece of mind to know your pet is taken care of. Read Less

This facility needs to figure out how to respect other people's time, you just don't sit someone in a blank room for an hour and not come in and let them know why the delay. An hour is ridiculous to be sitting with absolutely nothing to do and trying to keep a dog happy. If they had considered coming in and saying we have an emergency so we will be awhile then I could of have the opportunity to reschedule the appt at a more convenient time for me also. I will think twice before going back to this facility with that type of disrespect for me. Read Less
