We have only the highest praise and deepest gratitude for the care our two cats and our late collie have received at this clinic. Dr. Turnbull's treatment of the dog's hip condition gave him a significantly better quality of life, before he passed away from old age. Dr. Carrie Turnbull, at Staunton River Veterinary Clinic, did an extraordinary job taking care of Penelope, a sweet dog who has been with us in foster care through The Bedford Humane Society. Dr. Turnbull literally SAVED HER LIFE. So many bad things were going on with this dog. She had many different infections (bladder, ears, mouth/teeth, skin), and she had to have three surgeries (including removal of a HUGE bladder stone, spaying, and dental surgery). Her skin was in terrible condition which caused her fur to fall out (she was covered in fleas and, as a result, had this terrible skin condition). Her many medications had to be managed and she had to be on a special diet -- so many things were going on with this poor dog, but Dr. Carrie took care of it! Penelope had to spend over a week in their clinic under close supervision and care just to get her well enough for her first surgeries. When Penelope first went into foster care she still looked extremely underweight (although she'd gained several pounds while in their care at the clinic) and her partially hairless body looked horrible with dry cracked skin, which drove this sweet dog crazy with the itching, and she smelled. But . . . her medical care, although extensive, was closely monitored by Dr. Turnbull throughout the entire process of getting this pup healthy again. She encouraged me to send an e-mail or call any time I had questions between visits. Over a few weeks, Penelope slowly improved and it seemed that, literally, each and every day there was improvement. Since there were so many things wrong, it took a while for her to become healthy enough to be adopted. It is thanks to this wonderful veterinary clinic that Penelope is thriving today. Thank you so much, Dr. Carrie, for all that you did!! Now this special, sweet, funny, inquisitive, smart little dog can begin to enjoy a healthy life! THANK YOU!! My husband and I put our dog to sleep today. Our experience was more heartbreaking than it should have been. We waited an half hour for appointment. Vet asst. came in to ask why we were putting her down, we were there just last week to have her evaluate our dog. Why did she have to put me through that? Why didn't she read the chart? Then she went on to ask me if I wanted a bag or box to put body in. Finally vet. comes in. It took her five times to put IV in. My dog was struggling, hollering and dripping blood. My husband was in the waiting room and could hear her as well as others, everyone within hearing were upset. It was really heartbreaking. I will never take another of my animals back, that was really cruel. To top it all it cost us more money than originally quoted. Not only is putting a dog to sleep awful but now I feel guilt because I let my precious dog experience it. Vet says sorry. Also said our little dog went out fighting didn't she.Read Less

Very upset after today's visit. My family has a lengthy history with this clinic and we are usually treated very well. However, the last several visits have been nothing but confusion with the front desk staff, lack of communication about testing and costs, and very poorly competent staffing. It seems the staff turn over rate is very high and the lack of knowledge and professionalism is astounding. I will be finding a new veterinary clinic very soon. I am very upset by this decision because we used to love this clinic. Time for a change! Read Less

Love Staunton River Vet Clinic! They treat our pets like they are their family, too. They are very caring and compassionate. We have a puppy with a very sensitive GI system and they have been wonderful helping find food that our puppy can eat without being sick. Our other dog they love, love, love her and she loves them! No doubt ... Wonderful experience for our dog Goldie (and us)! Totally professional and caring ... and this includes all the personnel: the receptionist, the vet-techs as well as the vet herself. We have been going for almost three years and Goldie has never received anything less than top care. Oh, and when you have an appointment, you are seen within a few minutes of that time. I worked with her for about 8-9 years as her personal assistant for The Home Pet Vet and Staunton River Vet Clinic. She taught me so much that I could never repay her for and I appreciate everything she taught me! I personally think that she is the best veterinarian out there. She is very smart and never wants to give up on any animal. She takes every case to heart and will do anything in her power to save the patient.
