I've been going here for years and love it. The staff was so compassionate when I had I put my last dog down a few years ago, which made a horrible experience so wonderful. My current dog loves it here, as much as a dog could love a vet. However, my last experience wasn't so great, Polly, the newest office girl had a horrible attitude and tried arguing with me over a rabies certificate I requested. She handed me one that was clearly for a female hound and kept telling me it was mine, even though my dog is a male lab. Read Less

Had to put our 13 year girl down on Monday. She had severe heart failure and could not breathe properly. The vet walked in did not greet us or our my dog, asked us to put her on the table to start the procedure. My dog has always been the feisty one and doesn't like strangers touching her. The way that they were handling her and pushing down on her, she had a hard time trying to breathe as it is. She was so afraid and the way they were handling her, she passed out. I had to leave the room becuase of the whole situation. They were so rough on her I came back into the room just in time to see that she was going. All the vet said was that she was gone and left. No compassion at all. Like hes immune to these things. I dont even know his name, there was no interaction at all. Her leg was bleeding do the shaver they had to use to inject her. I was shocked at how fast this all went. I thought that they sedate the dogs first to calm them down, than put them to sleep. The last thing she remembers is being roughed up and mistreated.Read Less

Colony Animal Hospital is one of very very few animal hospitals on the peninsula that will sedate a dog for grooming.  I could not believe how hard it was to find a facility that provides this service.  But recently I had to utilize another service for the first time - I had to have my 14 year old dog euthanized.  They were very kind in greeting us, but then they took us to a nicely decorated room; almost like you would find in a funeral home.  There they had a sort of ottoman with a dog blanket on it, and that is where they performed the euthanasia.  Not a sterile, cold, exam room where an the animal would be likely to be more stressed.  They explained exactly what we could expect and talked us through each thing they did.  The doctor was wearing professional attire for work, but he kneeled right down on the floor to perform the care.  They let us stay with our dog as long as we wanted.  It was very peaceful and we could cry and pet the dog as long as we wanted.  As we left they offered us condolences.  In other words, they are concerned with the comfort of the dog first, then the family, then the staff, not the other way around.  That is as good as it gets. I called 3 times and emailed once. I told them my dog was sick and I couldn't lift her, (she was hurting and when we tried to lift her she would try to bite us) I ask if they made house calls. All they kept telling me was I had to bring her in. So her last days was filled with pain and there was no cause for this. When I went to pick her ashes up, they just handed me the bag and said nothing to me. I thought they would at least say sorry for your loss, but nothing. Read Less

Excellent office. The staff was very nice and made our experience very pleasant. I originally found Colony when I was searching for dog boarding nearby. They offer it but their amenities are a bit lacking, hence the 4 stars. They do not yet have an outdoor run and must leash walk the boarded dogs. I decided to go for it anyway because the lady in charge of the kennels was outstanding! I had no doubt my dog was in the best of care. I picked my dog up and she was as clean and happy as when I left her. Their prices were also very reasonable which was refreshing after dealing with other places that seemed high. Give them a try! We took our cat for an annual check-up. First off, we waited 45 minutes! I cannot believe the wait was that long, and when they addressed the delay, they blamed it on another animal having to come in before us. Very un-business like, if you’re going to make your customers wait 45 minutes, at least give them a heads up, or shuffle around appointments. Second, and probably more important, the way the “assistant” handled our cat was horrific. I have never seen my cat react to anyone as he reacted to this woman, but I am pretty sure it was because she was rough and extremely ungentle with him. So I implore you, if you love and care for your pets, take my advice and avoid this place! Read Less

Dr. Piske and Dr. Sparkman practice fantastic medicine and surgery, and they have state of the art equipment in their facility. But, that's where the "good" ends. Certain members of the support staff leave much to be desired, as they obviously do not understand how important customer service is. Their lack of simple common courtesy caused me to leave a great facility. Amy Popejoy tried to DRAG my dog from the exam room, to take her to the scale. Of course, I did not allow that to happen--I went with my dog to the scale. Amy had absolutely no need to try to manhandle my dog, and I was furious. I went so far as to tell one of the doctors that she was to NEVER touch another one of my animals again. Sherri Brunelle-I don't even know where to start with her! She took a situation that was difficult for everyone, and made it even worse. She obviously does not know or understand the basics of customer service. She apparently doesn't understand that every penny I spent at Colony helped pay her salary; and she doesn't seem to realize that clients do talk about their experience at the clinic. If I thought I was the only one who had a problem with her, I'd keep my mouth shut. But I've heard too many ugly things said about how she treats clients out in the community. I've heard about her in all the local pet stores, and of ALL places, my pharmacy-a hole in the wall place you won'tfind unless you know its location!! I hope she can live with the fact that it was her attitude, her actions and her nasty Facebook post that caused me to leave Colony and take my business elsewhere. Ever since Lisa left Colony several years ago, the customer service has steadily gone downhill. Customer service can, will and does make or break a business. It should be noted that there is a veterinary practice on nearly every corner. If one clinic won't treat you with common courtesy, better believe the one down the street will gladly do so. The animal does not drive itself to the clinic, nor does the animal pay the bill. The owner does that. Therefore, the owner should be just as big a focus as the animal is if a business wants to keep that client. As I stated, Dr. Piske and Dr. Sparkman are fantastic, and I hate that I felt the need to leave them. However, I can no longer stomach certain support staff members in order to get to the doctors. I think some serious in depth training in the basics of customer service would go a very long way in that clinic! Read Less

The staff and doctors are okay. I never felt comfortable with my puppy being taken to the back for 'treatments' and never felt like they were really compassionate about my pets and her needs. The doctor didn't really go over what they were doing and I felt like they were rushing my appointment. Overall, my experience was below average. I would not recommend this clinic. Read Less

Read Less
