Dr. Savell has been our vet since 2003. Over the years we have had many animals, some we lost, some we still have. I have never seen a vet as kind and understanding as Dr. Savell. My pets love him. He saved my Black and Tan Coonhound, Molly, from an accident a few years ago. He performed emergency surgery on her and saved her life. They took Molly right away without question. His office staff have always been super friendly and caring about our pets. His services are never overpriced and they are always willing to work with any financial situations. My 5 year old chihuahua mix "Mia" had been in drastic need of luxating patella surgery on her hind leg. We had been putting it off for some time, due to the cost of what our area charged for a surgery of this type. 4000$ simply wasn't in our budget but Deer Park Animal Hospital was able to do it for a fraction of the price. We are very thankful because we don't feel like we sacrificed any quality based on the what we paid. This is what made this surgery possible for us and our fur-baby Mia. The experience was good and the results have been great for our dog. My wife and I took a 5+ hour ride to Newport News from Philadelphia for this and would recommend it to everyone else in a similar situation. Mia's leg no longer pops out of place and she is running again. I also feel like she doesn't have pain now and is a much happier dog all after a short 6 weeks of recovery! With the addition of the joint support tablets, she is like a new dog with a new leg. We plan on going back in the near future to get her other hind leg repaired. We were refered to Deer Park for our Pittbull Ginger who needed Cruciated knee surgery. Dr. Savell was awesome, he fixed our Ginger for 3/4 less than the other vets. I called the doctor and told him I had 120 pound Rottweiler with a torn ACL. When they called me back to make the appointment I questioned the doctor and asked if he was board-certified and if he was a surgeon I asked her if he was a sergeant she said I guess I asked her if he was board-certified she said I guess I asked her if I could speak to the doctor and she said he wasn't in that I could call back at 9 o'clock. So I told her I did not want to make an appointment now until I talk to the doctor and I will call back at 9 o'clock. Well don't you know 3 minutes later they call me back and the receptionist tells me that the doctor did not feel comfortable taking my dog because he was a hundred twenty pounds and I should go someplace else so I told her why did you even ask me to make an appointment today he knew the dog was 120 pounds she said well I don't know and I told her is it because I questioned his credentials and she said yes maybe that's probably the reason. This is the BEST Veterinary Clinic I have ever used. I've had pets for over 30 years. Where have they been all my pets lives. I am so happy I found them. The procedure my dog needed was costed out as high as $1600 and was I  about to pay it when God lead me to Deer Park Animal Hospital. I paid a 3rd and received compassionate care. I've brought my dog in 2 times for the same thing within 4 months of each other and without taking any kind of test to include not taking the dogs temperate they give him the same antibiotics and charged me $200. I had to ask to get his weight and he was under weight from his last visit. Save your money because from my experience that all they really care about. Read Less

My dog went in for a teeth cleaning and left with aspiration pneumonia. When she first came home she had a few symptoms but they suggested it was allergies. A week later took her back in and found out she had pneumonia. Dr gave antibiotics to be administered at home. It has now been 2 weeks and she is still not better. Last night she went to the ER due to shallow breathing and eyes were unresponsive. Picked her up this morning and took her back to Deer Park per ER suggestion. Dr was in the office but "off" today. Said he was busy and he couldn't do anything for her today and to take her back to the ER. I understand being "off" but in a specific case that you have been treating and probably caused, as a pet owner and lover, how do you turn your back on a patient in need? Because of a teeth cleaning my dog may not ever be at home again. Think twice before choosing this vet... Read Less

Been my vet for years.  Kind, honest and helpful I have been very happy with them. We first went to them for a second opinion after James River told us they needed to do exploratory surgery to correct my dogs limp for $2,200.  Deer Park gave me pain meds & anti-inflammation drugs and  suggested I wait a month and see if it corrected itself.  It did.  I've gone to them ever since. The best vet in Hampton Roads. Dr. Savell is patient and takes time to get to know your animals. I moved out of town for several years and when I moved back, I had a cat emergency after hours. I left a message on his emergency line. Dr. Savell called me from home. Even though he hadn't seen him in years, Dr. Savell remembered my pet in great detail. How awesome is that? I absolutely adore Dr. Savell and the entire staff at Deer Park! They have taken care of my boys for years now, ever since I got my first kitty, Toby, over 4 years ago. I have since rescued my sweet Sammy who also has received the best care any pet owner could ask for. The entire staff always welcomes us with open arms, and always takes such wonderful care of my kitties. The amazing laser procedures they offer have also been a major asset to me and my sweethearts... They both proved to be major destroyers of furniture at a young age, and the laser neuter/declaw left both of them not even realizing they had had surgery. The biggest struggle I faced was trying to convince them that they should not be jumping and playing for a couple of days. this place is awesome! It's family owned (not corporate owned) so the prices aren't outrageous. The staff are always friendly and the Dr. is very thorough in discussing everything before he does anything. He let's me make the decisions when it comes to costs! They don't talk down to me like I'm an idiot or anything like that. I feel like family when I am there. My dogs love it there! They know each of them by name!
