Banefield Pet hospital is a waste of money. They make it sound like they provide a lot of services but they don't. They charge you for everything that you would expect a "optimal wellness" plan would cover . I don't see the point in the optimal wellness plan you're better off going to a regular vet . At least they care. They don't care about your pet they're just in it for the money . Worst experience ive ever had. Counting down the days till I never have to deal with them again. I Never write reviews about anything but this is my first one only cause I'm so frustrated and I hate for someone else to go through this. Read Less

I had scheduled the soonest possible appointment for my 3-month-old puppy. There was no availability for about a month, which is absolutely ridiculous. I used their website to reschedule the appointment and it seemed to work fine. I received a call today from a staff member who was rather snippy and trying to guilt me. She repeated a few times that I had missed "several" appointments, when I rescheduled one. I told her this and she was not having it. She repeatedly told me that a sick or injured animal could have used that time and I completely understand and agree but she was rude about it and it was unnecessary. I wanted to reach out to let you know about this, because I will not be coming again and will also be telling all of my friends to avoid this vet as a whole. There is a level of respect that needs to be understood when speaking with customers. I understand the need for appointments and time blocks, however this was not my fault for this incident happening. I have never been talked to as a customer in my lifetime like this. I will also be posting on my local Facebook groups to all of my dog families, as well as posting on all of the blogs my experiences here. This is absolutely unprofessional and you have now lost my business and future business with any of my pets. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau to inform them of this stores issues. I hope you address this problem and properly train your employee's so this doesn't happen again. Read Less

I had scheduled the soonest possible appointment for my 3-month-old puppy. There was no availability for about a month, which is absolutely ridiculous. Helpful and Friendly! I have brought my English Bulldog puppy into Banfield and have always had a great experience. The staff is friendly and greets us with warm smiles and great service. When you walk in for your appointment, the patients' names are on a board, which makes it even more personal - a little touch that I appreciate. After my puppy's appointment, the doctor gave my little girl a treat and a bandana. Maggie loves going to the vet now and it's thanks to the welcoming staff. Read Less

Definitely taking my business else where!!! The staff at the front desk are horrible. Im always skipped when I'm next in line. They insist on me dropping off my pets even for just one shot and I have to wait all day for my pet to be done. One will tell me having cat on a leash is fine then another will say no its not allowed only carriers and be completely rude with me. I've had many pets on plans for years and after having my pets go to this banfield it has been one bad experience after another. Ive worked at one before and been to some in different locations, this place needs to REALLY step it up. And when picking up my pets we NEVER get to speak with the doctor. Read Less

I have been taking my cats to Banfield since I got them in July 2014. I've experienced many administrative frustrations. They have not been able to change my account information after I got married two years ago (my account still has an incorrect name on it). They've cancelled an order of highly anticipated flea medication (which was ordered through their website) without reaching out to me. I had to discover this myself when a week passed and I hadn't received it and the fleas were driving me up the wall. I have been sent home several times with medication to administer to my cats, myself and I've been sent away without tests having been done and told to collect my own samples from the cats. I found it reported in the visit summary that one of my cats has "behavioral problems," but the doctor did not address that with me. I wasn't able to schedule one of the bi-annual checkups in time for their liking, so they told me I just couldn't do it. Really, a service that I paid for they insisted I could not have. For all issues, they defer responsibility to "corporate." The times I've tried to talk to corporate, even they weren't able to complete admin tasks and really, they're just there to talk you out of cancelling your plan. Today was the last straw. I woke up at 0700 to bring my two cats in for an appointment that was scheduled a couple months ago. I walked in with two screeching cats at 0730 in the morning to find they had cancelled my appointment. It was explained to me that they called me three times and couldn't get confirmation, so they gave someone else my appointment. Yes, I got a new phone number recently and Banfield was not at the top of my list for updating my number. That's my fault. However, I asked why they didn't email me and why they wouldn't have called my husband's phone number, which I have written on every appointment form I have given them. I was not given sufficient answers to these questions. It shows me that I am not valued as a customer that they would give up after calling a phone number which isn't currently active three times. I'm not sure why they decided to call it two more times only to listen to the message that lets you know it isn't active. I assume they were trying to check their boxes so they could turn me away in the morning. Although the girl at the desk was trying hard to be nice and rescheduled my appointment and finally recorded my husband's phone number in my account, it just wasn't sufficient to redeem them as a business. Perhaps letting my cats be seen today after I told the girl I took off of work to bring them in would have rectified this, or maybe even an apologetic attitude. (Instead I was met with the good old "these are the policies" speech.) However, I will not be renewing my Optimum Wellness plan and I will not be able to recommend this business. They have shown themselves to be far too impersonal, inflexible and incompetent or lacking any sort of authority in administrative areas. After three years of this (and trying to cancel once before only to be talked out of it) I am ready to move on to a conventional veterinarian office. Read Less

Buyer beware! I was given a price for the wellness plan and initial visit over the phone, and then given a much higher price when I arrived for my appointment. It seems strange that you have to meet with a "nurse" to discuss payment levels and costs before your dog gets his shots. I felt like I was being sold a timeshare. This is not my first negative experience with the cost of medicines and treatments at Banfield. This place is a business first, completely concerned with money. On the positive side, I have never had a problem with the care they showed my animals..... but my gut feeling is to never go back. Read Less

Took my 8 month old puppy here. Her genitals are swollen from heat, but she wasn't able to pee, could tell she was in pain. Also a smell had started coming from there. Took her in at 10:30am picked her up at 4:30pm, just for them to tell me to try and get my own urine sample and charge me $50. Asked if it could be an infection they said they didn't have a clue until the test. I even asked for an anal gland cleaning but they said they couldn't do it. Read Less

This has to be the best Banfield I've ever experienced, and I've been to quite a few locations. Each and every one of the staff gives us caring and undivided attention from the moment I walk in until we check out. Showing care is the biggest thing. Patients and customers can tell the different between caring and not caring. Unfortunately, my pet had a seizure and I brought her right in at 7am without an appointment. Unlike other locations, the moment I walked in, even with other customers ahead of me, they addressed me with a "good morning, I will get right with you as soon as I finish up with this patient. Is there anything you need while you wait?" I told them I had an emergency. The moment those words left my mouth, both assistants heads turned and asked me immediately what I needed and what had happened. They apologized politely to the other patients and took care of us right away. We got into a room and they made sure my pet was stable and comfortable. The doctor doesn't arrive until 8am but they constantly checked in on us and visited my pet. They even brought her in treats and a water dish! I have had some terrible experiences at other Banfield locations in the area. Because of our wonderful experiences here we have recently made this our permanent provider location. Best choice we ever made. Doctor Lillian Figueroa is extremely caring, friendly, personal , and knowledgable. One of the best doctors I've ever met, and definitely one of the best in Banfield. She respects our decisions and concerns, and supports us in the best way to make sure our pets get the proper care in the hospital and at home! This is showing care! I have been going to Bansfield for years, and this is the third dog that we have coverage under the wellness plan. He was a rescue dog that was about 3 years old. When we enrolled him in the wellness plan, we got him all his shots.  We then scheduled him for the neutering. I show up to my scheduled appointment 3 weeks later , and I'm told that Bansfield wants to charge me to perform the surgery. When I made the appointment they did not mention anything about charging for the surgery, nor did they give me an estimate.  I was under the impression that it was included in the wellness plan; however, when I got there,  Bansfield was going to charge me $330 because he was "no longer a puppy" I was pretty upset because I had to take time off of work and was not expecting to pay this much money. I was offered the option to pay it off in my wellness plan. I was pretty much insulted. Why would I want to double my monthly cost. For $60 a month I can easily get a pet insurance plan for a 3 year old dog that will cover all the preventive health issues plus most surgeries for a small copay. I am usually the one that debunks a lot of the negative reviews on-line in regards to your customer service, but this has truly changed my opinion of your service. I am now in a waiting list for 2 months to get the surgery done by the SPCA for $29. Thanks for wasting my time. Read Less

I have had a much better experience at other Banfield locations. I find this location to be generally unfriendly, overly ambitious with their scheduling, understaffed and poorly trained. 1. I brought my dog in for a half hour appointment. At the time I scheduled the appointment, I was told it would be 15 minutes, but to take a half hour visit to play it safe. Instead, when I arrived, I was asked to leave the dog there for a full day. The front desk associate gave me very little detail, saying only "the vet wants her to stay the day". 2.  Five hours later (that long to put on another bandage?), I am called to pick my dog up. When I arrived, the same front desk associate ignored me for 20 minutes and instead assisted 3 clients behind me. This delay resulted in me having to cancel other appointments in the day. 3. Additionally, the bandage was poorly done and was already coming apart.4. I also asked three different associates the same question. The first didn't know the answer and she also made no effort to find out the correct answer, even though she said she would. The second gave me the wrong answer and said I should ask someone else but he didn't have time to.  The third gave me a different answer... which I'm assuming is correct but I'm not going back, so, I don't plan on finding out.5. I called the manager who was very nice and listened to my concerns. However, she acknowledged she also would like to be better communicated with if she were a customer, yet provided no apology or offer to rectify what happened, such as clarifying communication protocols with her staff. And when I mentioned I will be going to a different location, she was unfazed. I wouldn't say you shouldn't go here, but if you do, just make sure you clear your schedule and don't come in with high expectations for customer service. They won't be met. Read Less

I can't speak highly enough of the staff at Banfield. I had been taking my dog ( Leonberger/Mastiff mix) there for years. As my dog reached her elder years she developed cancer, and we had to make the decision to put her to rest....I have to say Dr. Fig has an amazing heart and walked us through an awful time. The staff was accommodating and very sweet to us. Thank you Banfield staff for being there through some of the happiest and saddest times! We will be back....... one day =) Read Less

I have been taking my golden to Banfield at Military HWY for 5 years. They are great! Nice friendly and always helpful. I signed up for the optimum wellness plan and it has been the best. the onlything I have had to pay for were medications and even they were discounted. My New Pup is on the puppy plan and they have been great with him and his quirks. He is on the puppy plan, and its been a great help. I only ever pay for ear cleanings and nail clipings and triflexis when I go in. Read the find print in your wellness plan contract before you agree. They are very rigid on the rules. Ask questions if you don't understand the verbiage, and if you need to cancel make sure you notify them in writing in person of you are still under contract. Read Less

I love Love this place, Both the Banfield Pet Hospital and the Petsmart are always super clean, they have the best staff and they truly care about your pets. Every time I go they take a few minutes out of their busy day just to play with Rocco our Rottie. My chihuahua had a dental cleaning and extractions here. I had a wonderful experience and felt the vets, techs and front desk ladies were awesome! There was a promotion and we had a free visit and dental consultation; afterwards we scheduled the surgery. The doctor that examined her was very friendly and gentle (so was the vet tech). I was happy w/ the bedside manner. I ended up having to reschedule the surgery, however, and they were very helpful in keeping me on a cancellation list and I was able to get it moved up from the original rescheduled date. My dog had an abnormal reading from her pre-surgery blood work up, and the vet was very helpful in offering me different options on how to proceed and answered all my questions -- we were on the phone for a while! I decided to move forward w/ the dental cleaning b/c she had a fractured 4th premolar that was definitely getting infected (and later found out a necrotizing back molar). During her dental cleaning and surgery, they were very patient with my many phone calls to ensure my doggie was doing well and to minimize cost. They were very helpful when I came to pick my dog up and although very woozy, she was happy and relatively pain free (I know those old teeth must've hurt!). They gave me thorough directions verbally and on her medication bottles. She is doing very well and acting about 95% normal. Overall I am very pleased with Banfield and I am so happy they take care credit :) I will be coming back! Read Less

This place is a complete rip off. The pet insurance is just a ploy to get you to bring your pet in there twice a year and give them shots that they don't need. I have been  coming here for years. And I just canceled my pet insurance because when I came in there they wanted me to be $140 Sedate my animal that was asleep already. These people claim to be professional animal take care takers but they cannot even handle a little animal.I can't believe it took me this long to figure out what a rip off this places. Buyer beware! You can take your animal to a different pet hospital that will probably give you better care. I feel like we are only a number and not a real client to this company. When I signed up for the insurance I was told that it would cover her shots and included pretty much everything that she would need. Come to find out that was a lie! Read Less

Don't go here! About a year ago I took my cat to get routine shots, the vet acted like my cat was diseased or something.  He didn't seem like he even liked animals. So as he pulled up her skin to give her a shot he pushed the needle all the way through the skin and out the other side and his response was ,"WHOOPS". I already made up my mind then, I would never take her there again. Well my cat got really sick no one else was open except banfield on Sunday. There was no emergency vets in my area. I called to see if they could get her in. The lady on the phone said ok, let me see. As soon as I asked if they also had a payment plan , she told me to go to an emergency vet and hung up. So I called back practically begging for them to see my cat because they don't have an emergency vet in my area! She responded, " sorry there's nothing we can do" and hung up on me again! So I decided to take her to the closest emergency vet that was an 1 hour away. She died in the car on the way there! Read Less

I have to say I have never been a fan of Banfield.  I used to bring my english bulldog puppy here in 2007-2008 when he was a baby and needed his booster shots so I had added him to the Banfield puppy plan.  I was never impressed with how they scheduled appointments, they do like 4-5 at a time and you always have to wait a long time, the gals behind the counters were rude usually and not friendly, and they always tried to do things that cost more than the plan without saying something to me.  Once the year ran out and my puppy had all his needed baby boosters I cancelled my Banfield plan and found a regular vet office not affiliated or located in Petsmart.  These experiences were based on a different Banfield, the one at Towne Center in Virginia Beach.Yesterday, after having my now 6 year old english bulldog groomed at the Petsmart on Military Highway - where this Banfield is located, I realized that they had obviously gotten soap in his eye because his eye was red and squinty after I brought him home.  I immediately called Petsmart and informed them of this, they said I could either wait and see if it got better, or bring him in to be seen at Banfield on-site.  After seeing how irritated his eye was, and calling my vet for advice: they advised I immediately take him to an ER or bring him in because it could cause permanent damage and become an ulcer very quickly if left untreated, I brought him back in and he was seen at this Banfield.  There was some confusion as they thought we were just walk-in clients so they made us wait for a few moments but once they realized who we were and the store manager got involved, they proceeded to quickly stain his eye with a dye to look for damage and the doctor came out to advise that he had a minor abrasion on his eye that should heal within 3-5 days.  They gave us an Elizabethan collar for him so he can't scratch it and get it infected (a cone) and some antibiotics I have to squirt into his eye 3x a day for the next week or so.  They also scheduled a follow-up.  All of this was covered by Petsmart and not charged to me and they were very friendly and helpful.  The store manager also came to personally apologize and ensure me that they would cover everything involved in getting his eye better.  Which was nice.  I was also refunded the grooming costs I had paid.  My baby's eye is looking much better than yesterday so I am hopeful there was no lasting damage but I have to give Banfield high marks on this one.  I wasn't expecting much but they provided great service and took good care of my furry child.  I do know someone who works there, a friend of a friend I have always been on good terms with but never really hung out with on a personal level, and she happened to be there, so this may have skewed my experience a little... who knows.Either way, we have a follow-up there in 2 weeks so we'll see how that goes. This review is for the actual Banfield Pet Hosptial, not the grooming salon. The staff here always seems very busy, which they are, but they are also very friendly. The vet techs love, love, love on all the animals they see and are super great with our massively large puppy (80 pound 9 month old Mastiff mix). The vets are also very good with our dog. I like Banfield because of the monthly payment feature under the Wellness Plan which covers our office visits, vaccinations, neuter, and many other things like extra discounts on meds, vitamins, flea/tick treatment, and grooming services. We also save a crap ton of money this way. In our first 7 months with Banfield, we've saved over $1,500 by using their Wellness Plan. My only issue with Banfield is having to wait so long even with an appointment. I understand they see a lot of other pets, but nobody likes waiting, even if they put you in a room. Read Less

Dog grooming section is unimpressive. This place is for pet owners who don't care about the low quality of care their animal receives. A friend's dog was groomed here because the price was reasonable and when he picked up his dog the dog had injured himself because he has severe separation anxiety when crated. His nose had a gash on it and his front paw was cut up and bleeding. The on site vet super glued his paw to try to heal the wound but did not give any pain medication to the dog.  The grooming fee was waived because of obvious negligence on the part of the groomers and staff and also the antibiotic was free. it was disappointing  that they did not provide any pain medication for the dog and we had to make an appointment to get follow up care and pain med to alleviate the pain and then to top that off they wanted to charge us for the med and the visit. Would not recommend this place or any petsmart grooming to anyone who cares about the welfare of their pet. Read Less

Appointments are generally 4-6 weeks or they can squeeze you in for an appointment in 3 weeks if you're pet is in dire need to see a veterinary. If you're business is doing that well maybe an a few more veterinarians would be the answer instead of giving poor service, and soon needing no veterinarians. You might try the walk in policy they have, I haven't tried that yet. Read Less

They charge you for everything that you would expect a "optimal wellness" plan would cover . I don't see the point in the optimal wellness plan you're better off going to a regular vet . At least they care. They don't care about your pet they're just in it for the money . Worst experience ive ever had. Counting down the days till I never have to deal with them again. I had scheduled the soonest possible appointment for my 3-month-old puppy. There was no availability for about a month, which is absolutely ridiculous. I used their website to reschedule the appointment and it seemed to work fine. I received a call today from a staff member who was rather snippy and trying to guilt me. She repeated a few times that I had missed "several" appointments, when I rescheduled one. I told her this and she was not having it. She repeatedly told me that a sick or injured animal could have used that time and I completely understand and agree but she was rude about it and it was unnecessary. I wanted to reach out to let you know about this, because I will not be coming again and will also be telling all of my friends to avoid this vet as a whole. There is a level of respect that needs to be understood when speaking with customers. I understand the need for appointments and time blocks, however this was not my fault for this incident happening. I have never been talked to as a customer in my lifetime like this. I will also be posting on my local Facebook groups to all of my dog families, as well as posting on all of the blogs my experiences here. This is absolutely unprofessional and you have now lost my business and future business with any of my pets. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau to inform them of this stores issues. When you walk in for your appointment, the patients' names are on a board, which makes it even more personal - a little touch that I appreciate. They insist on me dropping off my pets even for just one shot and I have to wait all day for my pet to be done. One will tell me having cat on a leash is fine then another will say no its not allowed only carriers and be completely rude with me. I've had many pets on plans for years and after having my pets go to this banfield it has been one bad experience after another. I have been taking my cats to Banfield since I got them in July 2014. I've experienced many administrative frustrations. They have not been able to change my account information after I got married two years ago (my account still has an incorrect name on it). They've cancelled an order of highly anticipated flea medication (which was ordered through their website) without reaching out to me. I had to discover this myself when a week passed and I hadn't received it and the fleas were driving me up the wall. I have been sent home several times with medication to administer to my cats, myself and I've been sent away without tests having been done and told to collect my own samples from the cats. I found it reported in the visit summary that one of my cats has "behavioral problems," but the doctor did not address that with me. I wasn't able to schedule one of the bi-annual checkups in time for their liking, so they told me I just couldn't do it. Really, a service that I paid for they insisted I could not have. For all issues, they defer responsibility to "corporate." The times I've tried to talk to corporate, even they weren't able to complete admin tasks and really, they're just there to talk you out of cancelling your plan. Today was the last straw. I woke up at 0700 to bring my two cats in for an appointment that was scheduled a couple months ago. I walked in with two screeching cats at 0730 in the morning to find they had cancelled my appointment. It was explained to me that they called me three times and couldn't get confirmation, so they gave someone else my appointment. Yes, I got a new phone number recently and Banfield was not at the top of my list for updating my number. That's my fault. However, I asked why they didn't email me and why they wouldn't have called my husband's phone number, which I have written on every appointment form I have given them. I was not given sufficient answers to these questions. It shows me that I am not valued as a customer that they would give up after calling a phone number which isn't currently active three times. I'm not sure why they decided to call it two more times only to listen to the message that lets you know it isn't active. I assume they were trying to check their boxes so they could turn me away in the morning. Although the girl at the desk was trying hard to be nice and rescheduled my appointment and finally recorded my husband's phone number in my account, it just wasn't sufficient to redeem them as a business. Perhaps letting my cats be seen today after I told the girl I took off of work to bring them in would have rectified this, or maybe even an apologetic attitude. (Instead I was met with the good old "these are the policies" speech.) However, I will not be renewing my Optimum Wellness plan and I will not be able to recommend this business. They have shown themselves to be far too impersonal, inflexible and incompetent or lacking any sort of authority in administrative areas. After three years of this (and trying to cancel once before only to be talked out of it) I am ready to move on to a conventional veterinarian office. Read Less

Buyer beware! I was given a price for the wellness plan and initial visit over the phone, and then given a much higher price when I arrived for my appointment. It seems strange that you have to meet with a "nurse" to discuss payment levels and costs before your dog gets his shots. I felt like I was being sold a timeshare. This is not my first negative experience with the cost of medicines and treatments at Banfield. This place is a business first, completely concerned with money. On the positive side, I have never had a problem with the care they showed my animals..... but my gut feeling is to never go back. Read Less

This has to be the best Banfield I've ever experienced, and I've been to quite a few locations. Each and every one of the staff gives us caring and undivided attention from the moment I walk in until we check out. Showing care is the biggest thing. Patients and customers can tell the different between caring and not caring. Unfortunately, my pet had a seizure and I brought her right in at 7am without an appointment. Unlike other locations, the moment I walked in, even with other customers ahead of me, they addressed me with a "good morning, I will get right with you as soon as I finish up with this patient. Is there anything you need while you wait?" I told them I had an emergency. The moment those words left my mouth, both assistants heads turned and asked me immediately what I needed and what had happened. They apologized politely to the other patients and took care of us right away. We got into a room and they made sure my pet was stable and comfortable. The doctor doesn't arrive until 8am but they constantly checked in on us and visited my pet. They even brought her in treats and a water dish! I have had some terrible experiences at other Banfield locations in the area. Because of our wonderful experiences here we have recently made this our permanent provider location. Best choice we ever made. Doctor Lillian Figueroa is extremely caring, friendly, personal , and knowledgable. One of the best doctors I've ever met, and definitely one of the best in Banfield. She respects our decisions and concerns, and supports us in the best way to make sure our pets get the proper care in the hospital and at home! This is showing care! I have been going to Bansfield for years, and this is the third dog that we have coverage under the wellness plan. He was a rescue dog that was about 3 years old. When we enrolled him in the wellness plan, we got him all his shots.  We then scheduled him for the neutering. I show up to my scheduled appointment 3 weeks later , and I'm told that Bansfield wants to charge me to perform the surgery. When I made the appointment they did not mention anything about charging for the surgery, nor did they give me an estimate.  I was under the impression that it was included in the wellness plan; however, when I got there,  Bansfield was going to charge me $330 because he was "no longer a puppy" I was pretty upset because I had to take time off of work and was not expecting to pay this much money. I was offered the option to pay it off in my wellness plan. I was pretty much insulted. Why would I want to double my monthly cost. For $60 a month I can easily get a pet insurance plan for a 3 year old dog that will cover all the preventive health issues plus most surgeries for a small copay. I am usually the one that debunks a lot of the negative reviews on-line in regards to your customer service, but this has truly changed my opinion of your service. I am now in a waiting list for 2 months to get the surgery done by the SPCA for $29. Thanks for wasting my time. Read Less

I have had a much better experience at other Banfield locations. I find this location to be generally unfriendly, overly ambitious with their scheduling, understaffed and poorly trained. 1. I brought my dog in for a half hour appointment. At the time I scheduled the appointment, I was told it would be 15 minutes, but to take a half hour visit to play it safe. Instead, when I arrived, I was asked to leave the dog there for a full day. The front desk associate gave me very little detail, saying only "the vet wants her to stay the day". 2.  Five hours later (that long to put on another bandage?), I am called to pick my dog up. When I arrived, the same front desk associate ignored me for 20 minutes and instead assisted 3 clients behind me. This delay resulted in me having to cancel other appointments in the day. 3. Additionally, the bandage was poorly done and was already coming apart.4. I also asked three different associates the same question. The first didn't know the answer and she also made no effort to find out the correct answer, even though she said she would. The second gave me the wrong answer and said I should ask someone else but he didn't have time to.  The third gave me a different answer... which I'm assuming is correct but I'm not going back, so, I don't plan on finding out.5. I called the manager who was very nice and listened to my concerns. However, she acknowledged she also would like to be better communicated with if she were a customer, yet provided no apology or offer to rectify what happened, such as clarifying communication protocols with her staff. And when I mentioned I will be going to a different location, she was unfazed. I wouldn't say you shouldn't go here, but if you do, just make sure you clear your schedule and don't come in with high expectations for customer service. They won't be met. Read Less

I signed up for the optimum wellness plan and it has been the best. the onlything I have had to pay for were medications and even they were discounted. My New Pup is on the puppy plan and they have been great with him and his quirks. He is on the puppy plan, and its been a great help. I only ever pay for ear cleanings and nail clipings and triflexis when I go in. Read the find print in your wellness plan contract before you agree. They are very rigid on the rules. Ask questions if you don't understand the verbiage, and if you need to cancel make sure you notify them in writing in person of you are still under contract. Read Less

My chihuahua had a dental cleaning and extractions here. I had a wonderful experience and felt the vets, techs and front desk ladies were awesome! There was a promotion and we had a free visit and dental consultation; afterwards we scheduled the surgery. The doctor that examined her was very friendly and gentle (so was the vet tech). I was happy w/ the bedside manner. I ended up having to reschedule the surgery, however, and they were very helpful in keeping me on a cancellation list and I was able to get it moved up from the original rescheduled date. My dog had an abnormal reading from her pre-surgery blood work up, and the vet was very helpful in offering me different options on how to proceed and answered all my questions -- we were on the phone for a while! I decided to move forward w/ the dental cleaning b/c she had a fractured 4th premolar that was definitely getting infected (and later found out a necrotizing back molar). During her dental cleaning and surgery, they were very patient with my many phone calls to ensure my doggie was doing well and to minimize cost. They were very helpful when I came to pick my dog up and although very woozy, she was happy and relatively pain free (I know those old teeth must've hurt!). They gave me thorough directions verbally and on her medication bottles. She is doing very well and acting about 95% normal. Overall I am very pleased with Banfield and I am so happy they take care credit :) I will be coming back! Read Less

And I just canceled my pet insurance because when I came in there they wanted me to be $140 Sedate my animal that was asleep already. These people claim to be professional animal take care takers but they cannot even handle a little animal.I can't believe it took me this long to figure out what a rip off this places. Buyer beware! You can take your animal to a different pet hospital that will probably give you better care. I feel like we are only a number and not a real client to this company. Don't go here! About a year ago I took my cat to get routine shots, the vet acted like my cat was diseased or something.  He didn't seem like he even liked animals. So as he pulled up her skin to give her a shot he pushed the needle all the way through the skin and out the other side and his response was ,"WHOOPS". I already made up my mind then, I would never take her there again. Well my cat got really sick no one else was open except banfield on Sunday. There was no emergency vets in my area. I called to see if they could get her in. The lady on the phone said ok, let me see. As soon as I asked if they also had a payment plan , she told me to go to an emergency vet and hung up. So I called back practically begging for them to see my cat because they don't have an emergency vet in my area! She responded, " sorry there's nothing we can do" and hung up on me again! So I decided to take her to the closest emergency vet that was an 1 hour away. She died in the car on the way there! Read Less

I have to say I have never been a fan of Banfield.  I used to bring my english bulldog puppy here in 2007-2008 when he was a baby and needed his booster shots so I had added him to the Banfield puppy plan.  I was never impressed with how they scheduled appointments, they do like 4-5 at a time and you always have to wait a long time, the gals behind the counters were rude usually and not friendly, and they always tried to do things that cost more than the plan without saying something to me.  Once the year ran out and my puppy had all his needed baby boosters I cancelled my Banfield plan and found a regular vet office not affiliated or located in Petsmart.  These experiences were based on a different Banfield, the one at Towne Center in Virginia Beach.Yesterday, after having my now 6 year old english bulldog groomed at the Petsmart on Military Highway - where this Banfield is located, I realized that they had obviously gotten soap in his eye because his eye was red and squinty after I brought him home.  I immediately called Petsmart and informed them of this, they said I could either wait and see if it got better, or bring him in to be seen at Banfield on-site.  After seeing how irritated his eye was, and calling my vet for advice: they advised I immediately take him to an ER or bring him in because it could cause permanent damage and become an ulcer very quickly if left untreated, I brought him back in and he was seen at this Banfield.  There was some confusion as they thought we were just walk-in clients so they made us wait for a few moments but once they realized who we were and the store manager got involved, they proceeded to quickly stain his eye with a dye to look for damage and the doctor came out to advise that he had a minor abrasion on his eye that should heal within 3-5 days.  They gave us an Elizabethan collar for him so he can't scratch it and get it infected (a cone) and some antibiotics I have to squirt into his eye 3x a day for the next week or so.  They also scheduled a follow-up.  All of this was covered by Petsmart and not charged to me and they were very friendly and helpful.  The store manager also came to personally apologize and ensure me that they would cover everything involved in getting his eye better.  Which was nice.  I was also refunded the grooming costs I had paid.  My baby's eye is looking much better than yesterday so I am hopeful there was no lasting damage but I have to give Banfield high marks on this one.  I wasn't expecting much but they provided great service and took good care of my furry child.  I do know someone who works there, a friend of a friend I have always been on good terms with but never really hung out with on a personal level, and she happened to be there, so this may have skewed my experience a little... who knows.Either way, we have a follow-up there in 2 weeks so we'll see how that goes. This review is for the Banfield hospital, and the manager, April. Worst customer service witnessed today. The manager had no empathy for the customer and did not even attempt to resolve the issue. This review is for the actual Banfield Pet Hosptial, not the grooming salon. The staff here always seems very busy, which they are, but they are also very friendly. The vet techs love, love, love on all the animals they see and are super great with our massively large puppy (80 pound 9 month old Mastiff mix). The vets are also very good with our dog. I like Banfield because of the monthly payment feature under the Wellness Plan which covers our office visits, vaccinations, neuter, and many other things like extra discounts on meds, vitamins, flea/tick treatment, and grooming services. We also save a crap ton of money this way. In our first 7 months with Banfield, we've saved over $1,500 by using their Wellness Plan. My only issue with Banfield is having to wait so long even with an appointment. I understand they see a lot of other pets, but nobody likes waiting, even if they put you in a room. Read Less

Dog grooming section is unimpressive. This place is for pet owners who don't care about the low quality of care their animal receives. A friend's dog was groomed here because the price was reasonable and when he picked up his dog the dog had injured himself because he has severe separation anxiety when crated. His nose had a gash on it and his front paw was cut up and bleeding. The on site vet super glued his paw to try to heal the wound but did not give any pain medication to the dog.  The grooming fee was waived because of obvious negligence on the part of the groomers and staff and also the antibiotic was free. it was disappointing  that they did not provide any pain medication for the dog and we had to make an appointment to get follow up care and pain med to alleviate the pain and then to top that off they wanted to charge us for the med and the visit. Would not recommend this place or any petsmart grooming to anyone who cares about the welfare of their pet. Read Less

that pore lady who gave the bad review must have been in a bad mood that morning or something, because I just call banfield for the first time ever and was able to get both of my dogs an appointment for shots in 2 days. the woman on the phone was very polite, and informative.now if the service at the office is bad then i will deffinatle put in a review about that, but i was completely able to make an appointment for my pets at a soon time. I believe that when you ask for veterinary service and are given a 4-6 week waiting period that you are no longer getting good service. Appointments are generally 4-6 weeks or they can squeeze you in for an appointment in 3 weeks if you're pet is in dire need to see a veterinary. If you're business is doing that well maybe an a few more veterinarians would be the answer instead of giving poor service, and soon needing no veterinarians. You might try the walk in policy they have, I haven't tried that yet. Read Less
