I just adopted a new little monster last week after my main man went to doggy heaven several months ago. This new guy is a complete unknown to me, having been a stray and also being extremely skittish. I don't know his breed, age, health history, psychological history, anything... I warned Bayview when I called and made my appt and they were extremely understanding, assuring me that Dr. Pope was good with different temperaments. Well, my guy did great with the ladies in the clinic, but when approached by Dr. Pope, he was more scared than I've ever seen a dog. Apparently he has had some bad experiences with men. Dr. Pope was very calm and took his time trying to let my dog come to terms with him on his own time, but in the end my dog was just too afraid. We did end up having to soft muzzle him, and a tech held him while Dr. Pope did the exam and vaccines while I talked to him to calm him down, all in as much of a non-threatening way as was possible given the circumstances. Dr. Pope and the staff all kept reassuring my dog the entire time, talking to him and never taking a harsh attitude with him. We talked about his possible history with men and what it would mean for me with him in the future. As far as all the services, he only did what I asked for and went over everything he recommended; I don't feel like I got ripped off. He talked to me about food, actually letting me know there's no reason for the outrageously expensive food unless my dog has some medical condition requiring it. I walked out feeling like I could trust my dog's health here, and it was nice having a vet that's straight to the point yet will tell me to call if I have any concerns or questions at anytime.
