I brought my 14 wk old puppy in who was very sick. The 3 ladies there told me there was not a vet available and that there was nothing they could do to help me. They tossed out a couple of places but stood there and watched me with tears rolling down my face as I tried to Google other vet offices. The first number I found didn't have an available vet either at the moment but suggested another and found the number for me as they could tell over the phone how upset and important my puppy was to me. A small gesture such as getting me a phone number went a long way with me even though they could not help. The ladies at carpenter-pope just watched as I cried my eyes out, scared my puppy wasn't going to get any help. I did find an amazing vet that morning who saved my puppy. He was very ill and his body temp was very low and he was very dehydrated from something he ate in the yard. Item still unknown. However he is a very healthy little boy now and am thankful for the vet I did find. Read Less

They suck.Vet told me to bring my 16 year old bf in to euthanize her and go get another puppy immediately. Really?Was said in a very non caring way. I have not been inside this veterinary clinic since 1967. Upon returning to Hampton Roads in 2008, I was glad to see the offices still on W Little Creek Rd. My dad brought in an unknowing pregnant Manchester Terrier found stray at Cape Henry back then. Now, MD Calico Cat (checkout her Facebook page) will get services here since I reside in Norfolk! The vet is very friendly and was good with my big ole german shepherd. Its fairly expensive but they give you a list of options with different prices before they do anything. They explain the prices of the products they sell prior to getting to the register.Read Less

Recently moved to VA and simply went to the closest vet. This is the best place I've ever been, they understand that pets are apart of the family and do everything in their power to help all while informing you on exactly what they're doing and why. The prices are excellent. My cat was extremely sick and they managed to nourish him back to good health WITH OUT breaking the bank. Will continue to go to them as long as I'm in VA! Read Less

I am new to the area and needed a vet to check out my pups paw that looked infected. I went here because the google reviews were great. The staff was very friendly and they were able to fit me in last minute however the office visit cost was outrageous for the service I received. There was nothing wrong with my dogs paw but they cleaned it and put ointment on it and then charged me an extra 12.50 for wound care! The ointment she used on my dog is the same ointment she sent me home with that I was charged 17.50 for. I just felt ripped off and that not much was done for the price I paid. They also muzzled my dog without asking if it was necessary or without him showing any aggression. I felt that was uncalled for and was only done cause he is a german shepherd Read Less

I moved to the area from out of state and had a difficult time finding a veterinarian office I liked and trusted. I wish I had gone to Carpenter Pope from the start! I have seen Dr. Walker and Dr. Cleland and have always had a great experience with both. The whole staff is always friendly and seems to genuinely enjoying helping animals. I see that there is one really bad review on this page and I find it odd. This vet's office is great. The staff is all very kind and caring and the prices are excellent. Whenever I have an appointment there, the service is very fast. I never feel like I have to sit and wait for a long period of time. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a new vet! I was very worried about one of my labs and it was Friday and I did not want to have to go to the emergency Vet. over the weekend I called Carpenter-Pope told them what was going on and I was told to come right in even though I had neve taken my dogs there before. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpfull. The doctor was amazing. She listen to what I said about what was going on and then told me it could be bronchitis but there were no signs of infection and gave me medication for the dogs cough. Then the dog did start showing signs of an infection so I got antibotics. I really liked the doctors common sense approach and felt like she had a lot of experience and good insight as to what was needed to treat the dog. I am very happy with this veterinary Hospital and will be using them for all my dogs. Down to earth approach and reasonably priced.Read Less

Our visit here was such a disaster from beginning to end, I have no idea how they stay in business. The service was borderline hostile, they added on additional services that were not required and endangered my pet to simply price gouge. I have since contacted the local animal control to report their abuses, and will follow up with a complaint with the magistrate. Read Less
