I started liking this place when I first got there and then I definitely didn't. My cat had a massive asthma attack. I was freaking out. A friend of mine suggested Friendship Vet so I gave it a try. I was seen almost immediately which was great, so I didn't have to pay emergency vet prices. We took an x-ray to see if there was any fluid in his lungs, signs of cancer, or if it was just inflamed and was asthma. Thankfully- just asthma.The doctor gave my fur baby a steroid shot and then suggested he be monitored overnight by the emergency vet to see if he needs another shot. Now. I've already spent over $200. The vet said he just needed to be monitored. I can monitor him and if he started wheezing again, then yes I'll take him to the emergency vet for that other steroid shot.He didn't wheeze through the night (yes I stayed up with him). 2-3 days later his labored breathing started up again. I called Friendship Vet. The receptionist (who by the way was new and had no idea what she was doing...I had patience up until a point) read the doctor's notes to me where the doctor wrote that my cat needed to be monitored and then put on some breathing machine at the emergency vet. IF I KNEW HE NEEDED TO BE ON A BREATHING MACHINE THEN I WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIM. All the vet told ME was that he just needed monitoring.That super pissed me off. They wanted me to bring him in again. Yes that costs more money. He got the diagnosis of asthma, he was doing the exact same thing, I just didn't have the money to pay for them to look at him again and tell me the SAME thing. After HOURS of haggling, they finally wrote a script for prednisone. My baby hasn't wheezed since. I hope I never have to take him to that vet again. The only reason why they got 3 stars and not 2 is because they did help me and they finally did prescribe something for my cat. Read Less

Took our kitty here because she needed her tail looked at. The girls at the desk and tech assistants were very kind and considerate. The Dr took her time explaining what was needed and why and possible outcomes. $54 dollar office visit plus medications and a kitty collar added up to $154. Not sure what the average cost is to compare that total with. Guess bottom line is the end results with Fancy. Read Less

I don't have a negative thing to say about his place! They answered my questions and explained everything to me. Did not hesitate to scoop up my furry little bunny and take care of him swiftly. Best vet I have ever had! So kind, accommodating, compassionate, and professional. Considering I had 2 geriatric Great Danes who were in almost every week for a year I knew them very well and when I had to make the most heart wrenching decision of my life the staff of Friendship were amazingly supportive. They helped my family through a rough time and we will be forever grateful. Additionally they were extremely helpful helping us get our other dogs to Hawaii. They knew all the rules and requirements for importing. They made the move a lot less stressful. We will miss them. Read Less

I don't come in often but the vets and vet techs still recognize my two cats every time they come in. Both of them are FIV+ but the vets have never tried to scare me into paying to medicate minor problems or do unnecessary tests because of it, and they've always offered follow ups. They seem to thoroughly look at my cats' medical histories before seeing them, and they're always on time for appointments. I really feel that the staff cares about every pet. Read Less

I never ever leave reviews. I never say bad things about a business I just keep to myself. But I will never go back to this place. From the moment I walked in I felt unwelcomed. The assistant comes out and looks at me ,doesn't introduce herself and tells me we need to weigh him. She almost acted annoyed that I had my dog outside because he had crazy diarrhea. She ignored me when I spoke and did not acknowledge my questions. Not to mention when she took my dogs temp.( from behind) she was rough on him. I have never heard him cry before, not like that. You would think because he had explosive bowel movements she would have been more gentle. It was almost like she didn't want to be doing this job. When the Vet came in the room she did tell me her name, but she didn't shake my hand, she didn't seem concerned with me. This was so weird to me. My dog is like my child. If you took your kid to the doctor wouldn't you expect the Doctor to treat you with the respect you showed them? Wouldn't you want to trust the person looking at your child? There was no trust established here. No level of concern. Just more interested in getting me in and out and taking my money. When I tried to tell her my worries about the dog, it felt like she ignored me there too. No response. SHe prejudged me thinking because I had a Pitbull that I hadn't gotten his shots and he was sick with parvo. Even though I told her he had had all his shots and had been checked for parvo. They checked for that anyway and that was 50$ . I could say much more about this experience because this isn't even the half of it. And you know not everyone there was rude, but the two main people that were checking on my dog... were rude. I will never go back. I am still upset about this, $157.00 later and I still am not 100% sure my dog is healthy. That is not ok. Read Less

Friendship was recommended to my boyfriend and I when we adopted our first dog and the staff have all been so great! They're all extremely knowledgeable and even remember and recognize my dogs every time I've come to visit for their appts or to get their flea meds, even if it's been a while!! :) Very reasonable prices for very good care. Staff is very friendly and take great care of my dog Kylie! Prices are very reasonable and we have never experienced any problems here. They have two front doors and a divided waiting area which is great for us because Kylie doesn't usually get along with other dogs. Dr Cisco and staff are quite frankly the best and have been my preferred Vet for more than 20 years. Dr Cisco performed emergency surgery on my Persian cat Cayenne giving me another wonderful five years with him. I will never forget the gifts of that time together. Read Less

We moved away from Norfolk and yet we keep Friendship as our vet due to the staff. The veterinary tech (I believe his name is Kyle) is FANTASTIC with our husky who is always a little frightened to be there. On our last visit they did the exam on the floor to keep him calm. Both the tech and vet came down to him and treated him with such compassion and kindness. Kyle pet him and talked to him the whole time, even when the vet wasn't working on him. It was very comforting for "mom" too! After being taken to the back for blood work, Kyle said, "You have a very well behaved dog". That little compliment went a long way. What a kind man. I have a kidney challenged dog who has been going to Friendship for over 5 years now. They spayed her, chipped her and have seen her through some pretty rough times. I've never had a bad experience with any of the Vets, or staff. All are friendly, knowledgeable, well trained and efficient. I inherited another dog a few years ago and he now goes here as well. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a solid and reasonably priced Vet for their non-human family member(s). Read Less

I left Cat and Dog on 21st St and came here after a friend recommended it. I have a five-year-old male cat, and we recently rescued a kitten from the Norfolk animal care center. My initial visit about six months ago was just for a physical and that seemed to go fine. Today, I brought my cat in as he seems to be suffering from an eye infection, and upper respiratory problem. I believe he picked something up from the new kitten from the shelter. The front desk staff was very friendly. But everything after that went downhill. The "triage" tech reached in the carrier and tried to drag my cat out by the scruff of his neck. When I asked him what he was doing he replied "I'm getting the cat out". I told him that I could do that in a much kinder manner and proceeded to do so. He seemed indifferent. Then the veterinarian came in after that with a veterinary assistant. I was very concerned about my sick cat but instead got a lecture about his weight. I'm aware that my cat is overweight and we have had him on diets several times. I was much more concerned about how sick he was and there was zero compassion shown by the vet. When I told her I couldn't afford the prescription diet that she recommended for my cat, she decided to leave the examination room and on her way out said "well diabetes is a lot more expensive". She was rude, unkind and uncaring and not what I expected from a business that you'd expect is full of people who love animals. Both of my cats are from shelters and I take very good care of them. Honestly, all I want to do now is go get my cats' records and find a new vet. I do need to say though that the woman at the front desk was lovely. Other than that-I don't wish to return. Read Less

I love this place! This place is so much better then the vet hospital across the street. They were always friendly and kind. When it was time for my dog to go, they put everything on hold so that we could say our last goodbyes and they made it very comfortable for her. Just moved to VA. Went there for the first time with my puppy who needed staples removed. I was welcomed there, and everyone was so nice. I can't really say anything bad about the vet but if Karen still owns the grooming part in the back RUN. Don't let her touch your dogs. She used to call the place Puppy Loveland when I worked for her. She used to smack peoples dogs and jerk them around on the table when she was frustrated with them. I quit because I felt the urge to jerk her around every time I saw her treat a dog like that. She also will only groom small dogs that she can control in that fashion. Read Less

When we rescued our puppy Noel from a shelter in NC, we had no idea she was sick. Because of Friendship Vet, she beat the odds and was able to come home with us in just a few days. This place is great, all but one of the ladies who work at the front are helpful and friendly (I don't know their names so I won't call her out) and the veterinarians are great.  My cat has kidney issues and goes to the vet often.  I think I have seen all of the vets here and I have liked all of them.  They have never rushed me and have always answered all of my questions.  I also like that they have quick appointments, and a few night where they have late hours which I appreciate. I have been taking George (my miniature schnauzer) to Friendship Veterinary ever since I got him, which was about 3 years ago. The staff here is always very friendly whether I'm dealing with them on the phone or if I'm taking George in for an appointment. They have always been patient with both George and myself as far as treatment and questions go. I have taken George to Friendship Vet for normal check ups and for more specific issues. They have great hours on most weekdays, staying open after 5pm and sometimes as late as 8pm.  They even are open for a little while on Saturdays. The only downside is it can be expensive, but I don't know what veterinary office isn't. It isn't absolutely outrageous by any means, but depending on what your pet needs it will certainly cost you some money. However, I feel this vet is more than capable of taking care of one of my most loved family members. Read Less
