After spending close to a couple of hours on the phone, trying to find an avian (bird) vet, we were recommended to Poquoson Veterinary Hospital. It's about 40 miles from where we live, but was worth the trip. Sadly our little parakeet is having some problems, but we got the best care we could for her. The entire staff and Dr. P were so nice, sympathetic and helpful. As a pet sitter and pet owner, I love animals very much and can tell the Poquoson Vet staff are the same. Thank you! Update: I can no longer recommend this veterinary practice. My rabbit was not treated thoroughly, temperature not taken each time, weight not taken each time, medicine that would kill her was given and I was instructed to continue even though she had a horrible reaction to it. I was refused treatment because the vet wanted her euthanized, I believe the meds were given to kill her. She did not need them, she could have been kept on the safer medication that was working fine for pain and inflammation (the vet refused, giving me only the one alternative-the life threatening pain medication). I was given very bad advice about her eyes, and was not given any preventative care to keep them healthy. She may have lived, had she been given thorough care, and not drugged to death. My first experience here was several years ago. We had purchased a mouse at Petco, it was sneezing so we called Petco. They wanted to mouse returned to them (they would have killed the little guy!), but we insisted on a Vet, according to their purchase agreement. We were sent to Poquoson Veterinary Clinic. That mouse received amazing service, as though she was the most important patient they had. We are now there for our rabbit. Again, we are receiving amazing service from warm, caring staff. Our rabbit was near death. It looks like she will pull through. The doctors answered many questions, explained all options thoroughly, and were very kind. They went above and beyond. The veterinarian pulled some strings and we were able to get my dog in for emergency surgery the next morning. They kept my husband and I updated the entire time. I wouldn't take my animals anywhere else. The staff and Dr's are amazing and informative not only with my dogs but my bearded dragon as well. There's not a lot of vets that specialize in reptiles and the Dr was so compassionate when my little guy was sick. I brought my 16 year-old Chihuahua in for her last visit to the Poquoson Veterinary Hospital. The whole staff was very professional but yet compassionate to both my dog and me. Throughout the process, Hillary was very considerate, and while moving Mia, she cradled her as if Mia was hers. Dr. Williams explained the process which helped softened the inevitable. This is the best place I have ever taken one of my rats to! I took my rat in expected a routine visit and found out her was extremely sick with an upper respiratory infection. The staff is wonderful, they clearly care about the pets they're entrusted with, and they make sure all concerns and questions are answered. They know repeat pets by name, they make sure customers know how to get discount coupons on the more expensive RX pet foods, and just in general are great folks to take your furry friends to. My family has been going to Todd lane vet hospital for every animal they have ever owned. I was originally going to go there till I ran into this nice young woman that said she worked at this hospital. I thought I would give them a try and all I can say is I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with them from the medical staff and office staff. They all seem to really love what they do and care about the well being of your pets. I noticed some people have posted about how they had to wait long periods of time before even seeing the veterinarian. I haven't experienced this problem any time that I have gone to this vet. The only negative thing I could say about this vet is about the office manager. Every time that I have gone there, she hasn't been rude to me, she just comes off as if she doesn't enjoy being there. Though this is just the vibe that I have gotten. I could be wrong. I will say even when I got that vibe she was still professional when interacting with her. Read Less

Dr. Ashworth is hands down the best along with all of the other staff. I have an anxious shepherd who they are so fantastic with! He may be a pain coming in, but through his nerves I see his level of comfort with this staff I haven't witnessed anywhere else. I can not say enough good things about this place. From the front desk staff, to the technicians, the doctors and even all those behind the scenes I didn't see you all are wonderful! I called with an emergency situation and they made time for me right away and even had my dog in surgery within two days of her injury. They have all been genuinely kind and you can tell they care about each of their patients and their families. They even called today the day after the surgery to check on my dog. I have never received this level of service from a Veterinary office before. I can see why they come so highly recommended. My family has been going here for years and now that I'm grown and moved out with my own pets, I bring my animals there as well. Dr. Gibson oversees my dog's care and she couldn't be more of a sweetheart. She genuinely cares about each of her patients and is just a joy to see. My mother's cat swallowed a needle and needed stomach surgery; Dr. Gibson went out of her way to give my mom a call from her vacation time to see how the cat was recovering. I've been working with her and the folks at Poquoson Vet for several months now and I wouldn't dream of taking my animals elsewhere. My dog has become notorious for his chill personality while at the vet because he gets so much positive attention that he doesn't fear the clinic at all. 5 stars for sure! Read Less

Recently added two guinea pigs to my home, patches and buzz. Was overly worried about one of my boys and was recommended this veterinarian clinic, which is also very close to where I live. The front staff was nice and knowledgeable, the vet tech I had was awesome (thank you for standing by as I sweat through my first nail clipping), and Dr. Gibson was a rock star! She got down to business, but I could tell she enjoyed her job and has her own guinea pigs as well. The only downside is the wait time, they are definitely very busy, but they fit me in on the same day I called, so I can't complain to much. The money was well spent and my pigs will be getting some much needed meds as well. Would recommend and will definitely use them again, just be aware of how busy they may be. Read Less

Poquoson vet has been seeing my birds for about 4 years I have an African grey and Quaker as well as a eclectus Doctor eddy and Williams are very knowledge when it comes too parrots as well as having a very good bedside manner and are gentle with my parrots and talk with me and let me know what they are going too do . They saved my Quaker parrot when she was egg bound and where very compassionate and kind too me as I was very upset . they always have coffee drinks and snacks which is very nice and the techs and receptionists are very personable and sweet , they all know their stuff :) As well as its not very hard too get a appointment . Jules the eclectus needed a minor surgery and was seen within 4 days . I am very thankful too have this vet 5 min from my home .Read Less
