My dog, Princeton, had been suffering from vomiting and diarrhea for almost 4 days. Thinking of the severity of the diarrhea and vomiting, I finally decide to the bring him to the vet when I found blood on his feces. Since it was a short notice, I've been having a hard time finding a vet that will see him for a same day appointment. Luckily, Portsmouth Animal Hospital are able to set up an appointment on that same day.Princeton was seen by Dr. Smith and he was very informative and was very informative. He preferred to do things conservatively first before we try xrays and expensive tests. I really appreciated that because he is also thinking of how treatments can get expensive for pet parents. He and his assistant was very gentle to Princeton. Although Princeton was very scared and snappy (probably because of his pain), they are very understanding and they tried to soothe him.Princeton and I had a great experience at Portsmouth Animal Hospital. I am finally glad that there's a vet close by that understands the sense of urgency and will glad take an appointment on short notice. Read Less

***BEWARE ***DO NOT GO TO THIS VET OFFICE *******SCAM YOU OUT YOUR HARD EARNED $$$$$$$$$$$$$********* On 5/25/18 I Dropped my dog off for scheduled surgery and signed agreement to pay estimated charges. I left my contact information with the office assistants for them to contact me when it was time to retrieve my dog. 1. I never received a call to come get my dog. 2. They billed me $150+ more than I agreed to pay on estimate which I signed. note: Their estimates are ridiculous. Who bills someone with a $300+- range!! 3. When i asked to speak to the office manager( Christina) she magically found an error with the bill and reduced it down to just $50 over what I agreed to pay! It's not about the $50! Its the fact they were going to let me pay more than I should have and walk out that door! I requested the Owner***** Klarissa Ligon**** to contact me and she has not! THIS IS WHY I CALL THEM A SCAM!!! I WILL NEVER UTILIZE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN! Update 05/29/18- The owner Klarissa gave me a call this afternoon. It was nice of her to come out of retirement and give me a call, but I suppose the weather in Florida isn't very nice this week. She was very cordial and sympathetic, unlike her office manager. The bottom line is she still failed to retain a customer that has been using her businesses services since 2011. She asked, "what can I do to make things right". It's not my responsibility to try and keep a customer, it's hers! If she wanted to retain me as a customer she would have billed me what was originally quoted two months ago. What's a couple hundred dollars to retain a customer that will wind up spending way much more. Read Less

This is a great place to board your cats. The kennel area is more inviting than anywhere else and one kennel (it is like a closet with a screen door, with multiple levels for the cats to sit) is large enough to take two of our furry beasts ($20 each/day). And we do not have to bring any food. So ... why the three and not more stars ... an onerous need of the staff to call/text multiple times, almost daily, in the week before the scheduled boarding to confirm boarding. That and the staff's inability to correctly input boarding information (i.e., number of cats and which cats are coming to stay). I found a kitten under my house. He was 3 weeks old. The first vet I took him to completely ignored Echos sneezing, not doing anything for it. Dr. Ligon listened to everything I had to say and the techs and other staff helped so much. Every one who worked there, I'm sure, poked their head in just to see my tiny, adorable Echo. It felt like home to me. Since he's so little every tiny change in his behavior, I freak out. Instead of making me come in just so I could ask questions, the receptionist (she was so nice!) took my message with tons of questions included and said they'd call back. They did. They answered all my questions and answered the ones I thought of on the phone. I'd recommend PAH to any of my animal lover friends. Read Less

One of the vets did not diagnose my toy Chihuahua early when we brought her showing signs of neurological problems. Had to locate another vet to get her diagnosed properly by then it was to late and she suffered blindness and loss of her equilibrium due to the brain damaged suffered from this degenerative disease called NME. I took my animals to this practice when Dr. Casey owned it she was great and really cared for her patient's. Since it was purchased by the new owners it has gone "down hill" as far as I am concerned. Pet parents BEWARE when bringing your sick animal to this animal hospital! I love this place and will never take my dogs anywhere else. They are not "out to get your money." Quite the opposite actually. I adopted a 10 year old golden retriever named Rhett in November. A few days after I brought him home he started having seizures. The animal shelter conversed with the vet and confirmed that he had epilepsy. He started meds and is doing much better. In order to close the adoption we had to get him fixed (Dec 3rd). The staff were so good to him. And you could tell that this dog loved all of them. When it came time to get his staples removed, they found a hernia on his incision site. They offered to pay for the entire operation! We scheduled surgery (Jan 4th). When they started operating on him, they realized that instead of a hernia, it was actually a huge blood clot from his previous surgery (very common complication in senior dogs). They ended up making an even bigger incision, removed his scrotum, and were able to completely remove the clot! They still paid for what ended up being a $650 operation. They are all so kind and generous and they really care about the animals they see and their owners. Read Less

I've been following all of the posts that are damning this clinic because a man claims that they didn't treat his dog before receiving payment. I was at the hospital that day and this is the TRUTH that this gentleman is failing to mention: 1. Animal Control brought BOTH of his dogs to the clinic that day after they had been fighting. I overheard his wife say that this wasnt their first fight and that she had to lock their children in the broom closet so they could be safe. 2. An employee of the animal hospital went out to the animal control truck to talk with the animal control officer and assess the dogs. 3. The dog that died never came INTO the hospital. Likely because THEY SIGNED HIM OVER TO ANIMAL CONTROL TO BE EUTHANIZED. After they made him property of the city, his treatment choices were dictated by the CITY. I overheard an employee tell the animal control officer that if he was critical, the hospital would come out to the truck and euthanize him at no charge. That offer was declined. 4. A clinic employee did NOT deny treatment to either of the dogs; they said that they couldnt add it to the balance of of this guys account because he had failed to make payments on his account. The no check comment was likely because of this or because he probably had bounced checks in the past. The fact that they had apparently let him make payments before is NOT something that most vet hospitals do. 5. How is the other dog? The one that they DID treat? I saw them bring him in on a stretcher. He could be treated because they apparently DID NOT SIGN HIM OVER TO THE CITY FOR EUTHANASIA like you did their other dog. Im standing up here because they are wonderful at Portsmouth Animal Hospital. I use them because they saved my Riley (also a Pit Bull). I rushed him there one day after he had been hit by a car and they immediately came out to the car and brought him in, treated him and healed him. They didnt mention payment or cost to me until AFTER he was stable. They also treat most of the animals at the Portsmouth Humane Society at no charge (guess what? They are mostly pit bulls!) Again, Im sorry you this man lost his pet. But people need to know the whole story before they start spreading vicious lies.Read Less

Dr. Ligon is an amazing vet and compassionate person!! Dr. Ligon takes the responsibility of caring for your pets very seriously and would never do any of the things blasphemously posted about her and her practice!! What you're seeing here is an irresponsible owner who's feeling guilty about their obvious neglect of their poor pet and using Dr. Ligon as a scapegoat for their inadequacies!! It is not Dr. Ligon or any vets responsibility to care for your pet for free! You're the one who got animals you obviously can't or won't take care of and are then angry because someone won't help you on credit that you previously haven't paid back! It's just typical of today's society, blame someone else for you lack of responsibility! Stop harassing a hardworking and honest person and take a good look at your life and do your best to improve and never get another animal to make suffer because you're an jerk!!! Read Less

Absolutely LOVE Dr. Ligon and the way she interacts with my Golden! She comes in the room and instantly goes to the floor to give belly rubs and scratches to my girl. There is no hiding her passion for animals which makes me feel at ease seeing it first hand. I've seen Dr. Smith twice & he is also great, very knowledgeable and ensures you understand everything before walking out the office. Best Vet around!!! Read Less

Even let the owner know how her doctor did not diagnosis my dog properly sent her the diagnosis from the neurologist she didn't even have the decency to contact me to offer an apology. Read Less

Read Less

I LOVE this place! It used to be Casey Animal Hospital and was OK, but the new owners bought the practice in 2011 and have really made it a great place to take your pets. Dr. Harrell is still there and she is nice and the new owner is also one of the vets. She rocks! Got on the floor to examine my dog and made us feel at ease. She explained his problem and gave us alot of options to treat him that didnt cost a fortune. I wish my human doctor gave me that much time and care. Read Less
