We've spent thousands of dollars here over the past 5+years but never again. We trusted our vet to do what was best for our pets. They let us down and our sweet little kitty paid for that with her life. She had surgery to remove tumors, before surgery we asked about life expectancy as we didn't want to put her through surgery unnecessarily and we were told that even for cancerous tumors she'd live a long life. We opted for the surgery after that. AFTER surgery and confirmation that the tumors were cancerous, I asked again about life expectancy and if there was anything else (radiation,chemo, etc) we needed to do as a follow up. I was told no and she was good to go. Hardly a month later we were at a different emergency vet putting our sweet girl to sleep...and are told she definitely should've been referred to a veterinary oncologist after her surgery to try to prevent further spread of cancer.
Our sweet girl could've been saved had they directed us to get her the correct treatment.
After switching to another vet, we were told the treatment our other cat had had (tooth removal for chronic mouth infections) was completely unnecessary. He's now on an excellent medication regime and is thriving.
They may be cheaper than other locations, but we've spent way more correcting their mistakes. And speaking of cheaper, they gave us a supplement to prevent UTI's in our elderly cat for $30. We peeled the prescription label and it is just an over the counter joint supplement that's $15 at any pet store.

This is the worst place you could ever bring your pet to, the staff is rude inconsiderate and don’t care about the animals or the people who help keep them in business. I waited over two hours for their mistake and got no apology, just got told in a rude way “this is a hospital” as if I knew that I would wait 2 1/2 hours to see a vet with an appointment that I scheduled weeks before. The vet that saw my dog never submitted the lab work as I called back two days later and asked if she approved the heart pill only to find out the lab work was never submitted. What a crappy uncaring professional! I’ve been going to Powhatan animal hospital with my dog for over six years, the past year or two I noticed a huge change in the service and my dog became extremely nervous to go there. Needless to say I will no longer support this place with my dollars to help keep such rotten people and rotten business in service. Be aware if your animals suddenly hates going there it’s because how the dog is being treated behind closed doors.

We have been bringing our animals to Powhatan Animal Hospital for years. We came to them even back when it took us a long time to drive there when we lived quite a distance away. We now are closer and absolutely love the way our older dogs and puppies are treated. The staff are happy to see our pets (especially the new litters) and treat our dogs with gentle care so not to scare them. We love this hospital and appreciate everyone who works there!

Although this vet is over 50 miles from our current home, we continue to return for the top-notch care. Dr. Menasco has always gone above and beyond to provide the highest quality care to our pets and makes us feel like family. The office staff is helpful and they work very hard to try to accommodate requests for appointments in a timely manner. The pricing is very fair. Excellent veterinary practice!!

I take my animals here, it's right up the street from my house. Everyone there is super nice, friendly, courteous, they truly care about the animals. However, it's not cheap, but then again this is the only vet I've ever been to in my entire adult life. I won't be changing vets regardless.

I was a new patient, and my only constructive criticism would be that the front desk / check in staff could have been more engaging and energetic. They seemed to have fun talking among themselves, but then seemed to turn that off when engaging with customers. When coming in with your fur baby, and feeling anxious about getting them taking care of, it would be really appreciated to have them be more engaged. Whoever answered the phone to make my appointment was very sweet and caring about my situation. The young man who took me back, was very pleasant, energetic, and even let me know there may be a wait due to a recent emergency. I really appreciated that information. ( I think his name was Joseph ) My visit with the doctor was good, but I did feel a little rushed, however I still think that was from the earlier emergency, and they were trying to probably catch back up. Overall I had a good experience.

The staff and doctors are all so helpful and friendly. We started coming here because of a bad experience at another vet. They get very busy at times but since they are one of the larger vets in the county, this kind of comes with the territory. Only issues we have ever had has been with the staff at front desk appearing frazzled when its extra busy. It doesn't bother me as we are all human but it may bother others. I can say we have loved our experiences at Powhatan Animal hospital and highly recommend it to anyone.

The remodel gives the building a much more professional and updated feel. Front end staff are always friendly. For some reason care credit frequently doesn't play well with their system. Reasonable prices and they give a small discount to established customers. I've seen a few of the vets but try to only see Dr. Menasco when possible because she is so amazing and sweet. She helped us say goodbye to our dog in March after 2 years of treating her for evolving (and in the end escalated deteriorating) issues. A couple weeks ago when I brought my cat in to be seen I mentioned we might get a kitten and she recommended a rescue (who brings the kittens they find to Dr. Menasco for treatment). Within the week we brought home the perfect kitten for our family. I live 30 minutes from Powhatan Animal Hospital but I make this drive because they are definitely worth it in my opinion.

I began using Powhatan Animal Hospital at the beginning of 2016 after leaving another local vet (that I would not recommend) and in that time have gotten to know the Doctors, Techs, and Administrative People pretty well. I am a breeder and have several dogs and some aging cats so I spend a fair amount of time in and out of the facility. I can say without a doubt that my animals have gotten the best care possible there. The staff is thorough and attentive, and caring. I lost 2 of my older cats during that time of various ailments and I genuinely appreciated how concerned and respectful they were during my time of loss, never rushed, and thoroughly answered all my questions. I can tell you because they are not my only vet (I also use some specialists) that the pricing on almost everything is extremely reasonable. If surgery is needed, the Drs are excellent and the prices are far better than in Richmond. They expanded their facilities during that time and added staff, so I rarely have a problem being seen even on short notice and sincerely appreciate their efforts. Always a pleasure...:)

This is a large practice with so many staff that they are able to offer convenient hours. They will take your pet from you so you don't get to see how it is handled. That might be less stressful for some owners, but others might prefer to see what is going on. Keep in mind that some pets will behave better without their owners with them. But, if you have any handling issues at home afterward, you will have no clue as to exactly why because you will not have seen the exact handling method used. If you have a treatment that requires followup, you might not see the same veterinarian you saw initially.

Comes back with an even higher quote for extraction even after offering to reduce the anesthesia cost.

I USED to (key word USED) take my dog here since he was a puppy, he's now almost 9 years old. Ever since they were bought out, it's been steadily going downhill! I will never take my dog to this vet ever again! My dog had a spout of diarrhea for 4 days, when I called they acted like it was no big deal and when I asked if I could bring a sample in they said yes but that it would take 24-48 hours to get the result and that I would be notified with the results. I called other vet hospitals that day and they were all shocked to hear that they had to send the sample to a lab, most vet hospitals have that equipment in office! Those vet hospitals seemed more concerned about the well being of my dog, and they don't even know us! After waiting for 5 days for the results I CALLED and was told that test came back negative. Would have been nice to know, I have been worried about him for 5 days. Having that peace of mind would've been nice. Luckily my dogs diarrhea cleared up the next day after bringing in the sample -$20 down the drain. All they seem to care about is money and not the actual pets. Some of the front desk employees are super nice, but the lady I spoke to regarding the results seemed like I was a huge inconvenience, didn't sound friendly on the phone at all. I've never seen them love on my dog, pet my dog, and or even TALK to my dog. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Horrible, uncaring, and unprofessional. My mother has been a loyal client for over 10 years, with her NINE pets. She moved 2 hours away, and has called THREE TIMES in the last 10 DAYS to request a transfer of records to the new vet in her new town. Each time, she was assured it would be done "right away" by both male and female receptionists. NEVER HAPPENED. She even said on the 3rd call, "why can't you do this for me, do you require bribery?" Her two elderly dogs are now completely out of their medication. Mom's move was sudden and unplanned, so here we are with miserable and unmedicated dogs, and I absolutely can not believe she is being so mistreated and disregarded by this so-called animal hospital. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE.

First of all, I miss the vet that wore the bow-tie!! I could never remember his name. Any way, he was amazing! After my boy went in to get fixed and ended having to go digging in his small intestines to find the ball that did not drop; since that time he has been deathly scared. Mr. bow-tie took his time and had patience with my boy to regain his trust. He would sit on the floor and talk to my boy helping to ease his fear. My boy would come out from under the chair and go to him. It did not matter how long it took he stayed and waited for my boy. Since his leaving, we have had two other vets there, that I had explained my boy's fear. Neither of them seemed to give it much mind and one of those vets way of dealing with my boy was to have him put in a muzzle each time he was to come in. Saw his file in front of the front desk girl and asked her. She said he would have to have it on when he was in the back. Talk about traumatizing a dog that is already scared!! Needless to say, I will never take my boy back. That place has lost the patience, time and heart since the changing of hands. I have been going to them for so many years; took all my animals and fosters. I have included two photos. The first is the one my son took before the vet came in and the second is the one I took after the vet left from the quick impersonal examination.

Dr. Pinkleton and his staff were very attentive to our cat Sammie in a time of great need. Sammie was seen at the clinic for a large flesh wound on his arm, the skin was sewn together as best possible...
Dr. Pinkleton and his staff were very attentive to our cat Sammie in a time of great need. Sammie was seen at the clinic for a large flesh wound on his arm, the skin was sewn together as best possible leaving a small area where the skin would not stretch to heal on it's own. After a few weeks passed the wound would not close fully due to his activity and I took him in to be seen for a follow up. There the doctor recommended a skin graft, this procedure required his arm to be sewn into a small incision on his stomach. If successful it would mean there would be living skin that would attached to the arm and allow for full recovery.
The skin graft was successful and here is Sammie post several months post surgery and is happy and pain free thanks to the amazing staff and doctors at Powhatan Animal Hospital. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Their extensive knowledge of even the worst cases makes me trust even more in the small ones. Thank you for your service and dedication to serving our extended family.

Dr.Floyd is awesome!! Everyone was pleasant, kind and informative from my first call to set up the appointment. I live in the D.C. Metro area but my sister lives in Powhatan. After a bad experience with my dogs vet in DC, I started bringing her to my sisters vet- Powhatan Animal Hospital. Dr Floyd gave me a lot of time, it felt unrushed and he answered all my questions, made thoughtful recommendations and I felt he really knew his stuff. He has excellent bed side manner. He provided options for treatment now and as her health deteriorates with age. At the end when I got the bill I was astonished. It was at least 150$ LESS than I was expecting to pay. The prices are so reasonable and the care far exceeded my expectations. If you love your animal as if it were part of your family (as I do) and demand the best, THIS IS WHERE YOU NEED TO COME!

About the crap service. And the lack. Of care given. I have to contact. This vet many occasion. During the week. To establish. Shot records. They leave u on hold 15 mins +. And are beyond rude. Once I was so frustrated. I asked to speek to the manager. She had the nerve to fight with me threaten me. And basically tell me she dosent care. I've had it up to here and recommend. All my clients that vet with them to switch. Just today another client who I had to turn away do to there neglect.

My dog was seen at the Powhatan Animal Hospital in February of 2016, and that will be the last time that they will ever be allowed to touch any of my animals again. When I was in the office, I told them that my dog was limping. After multiple tests and hundreds of dollars, I was assured by the vet that my dog was perfectly fine and that I had nothing to worry about. My dog continued to limp after this visit, and I eventually went to another vet to get a second opinion because he could barely walk. The second vet, armed with copies of the scans from Powhatan, knew immediately that my dog had torn his ACL and meniscus. After this visit, I called them Powhatan and confronted them about their lack of diagnosis and to this day they have refused to admit that they did anything wrong. Due to their lack of diagnosis and judgment on my pet, his left leg has suffered irreparable damage. He will permanently have issues because of this vet, even though he had surgery to repair the damage. Given the other vet options in the area, I would do whatever you can to avoid this place.

I am absolutely sick of this practice. I've always taken all of my animals to Powhatan Animal Hospital but ever since the ownership has changed it's been downhill. We currently have 3 pets who have visited this practice and every single time they throw us for a loop. Oh surprise that 3 year vaccine you paid for last year is really only good for 1 year. Oh surprise, the quote we gave you on a phone didn't include any of our other required service charges, oops! Seems pretty standard that if a customer wants to know what it will cost the have a service performed that the quote should include all required charges for that service (i.e. antibiotics & anesthesia).

I'm very happy with they way they treat my animals and greet us,one thing I will say is they do try to push extra stuff I know it's recommended but some I feel isn't needed. We took our dog in 3 days ago because he and our other dog had a disagreement and he got the worst of it. The people greeting us were very nick. Once we saw a Doctor she was also nice. The problem came from the medications they gave us. He vomited 3 times this morning. We took him back and were told that 1 of the medications they gave was incorrect and it was causing the upset stomach. We asked if we would get a refund for that or would we get the new med for no charge as this was their mistake. We were told no refund and that if we wanted the new medication we would have to pay for it!This not about the money. In my opinion if they made the mistake we shouldn't have to pay for it.They will not be seeing us again.

Ok, so they're a little more expensive than what I was used to paying at my old veterinarians office (not in Powhatan). With that being said, I have no quarrels with the price due to the awesome staff here. Both of my dogs get extremely nervous coming to the vet and I have been continually impressed with Dr Floyd's "bedside manner". He is never in a rush, always has time for questions and just generally has a very laid back demeneaor. This helps to put both myself and my babies at ease. The front desk staff is generally very friendly too, even under stress at busy times. Kate at the front is super sweet.

I love the staff at Powhatan Animal Hospital! The ladies up front are super sweet and friendly! The lady I talked to on the phone was extremely helpful and was patient with all of my questions! I have seen several of the doctor in the past year and they are great! They took great care of my puppy and made me feel like she was in great hands. She is a little shy but the Doctor made sure to spend extra time with her to make her feel as comfortable as possible. The practice itself was super clean and did not have that normal animal hospital smell! I highly recommend going here!!!

If I could give a lower rating I would. While Dr larreck was there I had to request him when ever I brought my dog in because all the other vets were just horrible. Now that he has retired the place has gone done even more. A friend took her dog in to have surgery and instead of stitches they used staples??? They ended up getting ripped out. Took the dog back stitched her and that was it. Didn't try to clean her up or anything. Very disappointed and disgusted with the staffing.

My dogs and I have used this facility for more than 20 years, so it's obvious that we are more than satisfied with the staff there. Without exception, they are sensitive to the needs of both their animal patients and their Animal Parents. Whether it's a well-puppy examination, or the final visit for a beloved companion, we have always been treated with the utmost kindness, respect and efficiency.
I can't offer sufficient verbal praise, so I'll give you a personal example that will shed some light on our feelings regarding Powhatan Animal Hospital. After living in Chesterfield for 25+ years, we moved to Hanover. With that move the distance from home to P.A.H. jumped from a 20 mile round trip to one of just over 90 miles. As needed, we still make that trip.

We've spent thousands of dollars here over the past 5+years but never again. We trusted our vet to do what was best for our pets. They let us down and our sweet little kitty paid for that with her lif...
We've spent thousands of dollars here over the past 5+years but never again. We trusted our vet to do what was best for our pets. They let us down and our sweet little kitty paid for that with her life. She had surgery to remove tumors, before surgery we asked about life expectancy as we didn't want to put her through surgery unnecessarily and we were told that even for cancerous tumors she'd live a long life. We opted for the surgery after that. AFTER surgery and confirmation that the tumors were cancerous, I asked again about life expectancy and if there was anything else (radiation,chemo, etc) we needed to do as a follow up. I was told no and she was good to go. Hardly a month later we were at a different emergency vet putting our sweet girl to sleep...and are told she definitely should've been referred to a veterinary oncologist after her surgery to try to prevent further spread of cancer.
Our sweet girl could've been saved had they directed us to get her the correct treatment.
After switching to another vet, we were told the treatment our other cat had had (tooth removal for chronic mouth infections) was completely unnecessary. He's now on an excellent medication regime and is thriving.
They may be cheaper than other locations, but we've spent way more correcting their mistakes. And speaking of cheaper, they gave us a supplement to prevent UTI's in our elderly cat for $30. We peeled the prescription label and it is just an over the counter joint supplement that's $15 at any pet store.

This is the worst place you could ever bring your pet to, the staff is rude inconsiderate and don’t care about the animals or the people who help keep them in business. I waited over two hours for their mistake and got no apology, just got told in a rude way “this is a hospital” as if I knew that I would wait 2 1/2 hours to see a vet with an appointment that I scheduled weeks before. The vet that saw my dog never submitted the lab work as I called back two days later and asked if she approved the heart pill only to find out the lab work was never submitted. What a crappy uncaring professional! I’ve been going to Powhatan animal hospital with my dog for over six years, the past year or two I noticed a huge change in the service and my dog became extremely nervous to go there. Needless to say I will no longer support this place with my dollars to help keep such rotten people and rotten business in service. Be aware if your animals suddenly hates going there it’s because how the dog is being treated behind closed doors.

We have been bringing our animals to Powhatan Animal Hospital for years. We came to them even back when it took us a long time to drive there when we lived quite a distance away. We now are closer and absolutely love the way our older dogs and puppies are treated. The staff are happy to see our pets (especially the new litters) and treat our dogs with gentle care so not to scare them. We love this hospital and appreciate everyone who works there!

I was a new patient, and my only constructive criticism would be that the front desk / check in staff could have been more engaging and energetic. They seemed to have fun talking among themselves, but then seemed to turn that off when engaging with customers. When coming in with your fur baby, and feeling anxious about getting them taking care of, it would be really appreciated to have them be more engaged. Whoever answered the phone to make my appointment was very sweet and caring about my situation. The young man who took me back, was very pleasant, energetic, and even let me know there may be a wait due to a recent emergency. I really appreciated that information. ( I think his name was Joseph ) My visit with the doctor was good, but I did feel a little rushed, however I still think that was from the earlier emergency, and they were trying to probably catch back up. Overall I had a good experience.

The staff and doctors are all so helpful and friendly. We started coming here because of a bad experience at another vet. They get very busy at times but since they are one of the larger vets in the county, this kind of comes with the territory. Only issues we have ever had has been with the staff at front desk appearing frazzled when its extra busy. It doesn't bother me as we are all human but it may bother others. I can say we have loved our experiences at Powhatan Animal hospital and highly recommend it to anyone.

The remodel gives the building a much more professional and updated feel. Front end staff are always friendly. For some reason care credit frequently doesn't play well with their system. Reasonable prices and they give a small discount to established customers. I've seen a few of the vets but try to only see Dr. Menasco when possible because she is so amazing and sweet. She helped us say goodbye to our dog in March after 2 years of treating her for evolving (and in the end escalated deteriorating) issues. A couple weeks ago when I brought my cat in to be seen I mentioned we might get a kitten and she recommended a rescue (who brings the kittens they find to Dr. Menasco for treatment). Within the week we brought home the perfect kitten for our family. I live 30 minutes from Powhatan Animal Hospital but I make this drive because they are definitely worth it in my opinion.

I began using Powhatan Animal Hospital at the beginning of 2016 after leaving another local vet (that I would not recommend) and in that time have gotten to know the Doctors, Techs, and Administrative People pretty well. I am a breeder and have several dogs and some aging cats so I spend a fair amount of time in and out of the facility. I can say without a doubt that my animals have gotten the best care possible there. The staff is thorough and attentive, and caring. I lost 2 of my older cats during that time of various ailments and I genuinely appreciated how concerned and respectful they were during my time of loss, never rushed, and thoroughly answered all my questions. I can tell you because they are not my only vet (I also use some specialists) that the pricing on almost everything is extremely reasonable. If surgery is needed, the Drs are excellent and the prices are far better than in Richmond. They expanded their facilities during that time and added staff, so I rarely have a problem being seen even on short notice and sincerely appreciate their efforts. Always a pleasure...:)

This is a large practice with so many staff that they are able to offer convenient hours. They will take your pet from you so you don't get to see how it is handled. That might be less stressful for some owners, but others might prefer to see what is going on. Keep in mind that some pets will behave better without their owners with them. But, if you have any handling issues at home afterward, you will have no clue as to exactly why because you will not have seen the exact handling method used. If you have a treatment that requires followup, you might not see the same veterinarian you saw initially.

Comes back with an even higher quote for extraction even after offering to reduce the anesthesia cost.

I USED to (key word USED) take my dog here since he was a puppy, he's now almost 9 years old. Ever since they were bought out, it's been steadily going downhill! I will never take my dog to this vet ever again! My dog had a spout of diarrhea for 4 days, when I called they acted like it was no big deal and when I asked if I could bring a sample in they said yes but that it would take 24-48 hours to get the result and that I would be notified with the results. I called other vet hospitals that day and they were all shocked to hear that they had to send the sample to a lab, most vet hospitals have that equipment in office! Those vet hospitals seemed more concerned about the well being of my dog, and they don't even know us! After waiting for 5 days for the results I CALLED and was told that test came back negative. Would have been nice to know, I have been worried about him for 5 days. Having that peace of mind would've been nice. Luckily my dogs diarrhea cleared up the next day after bringing in the sample -$20 down the drain. All they seem to care about is money and not the actual pets. Some of the front desk employees are super nice, but the lady I spoke to regarding the results seemed like I was a huge inconvenience, didn't sound friendly on the phone at all. I've never seen them love on my dog, pet my dog, and or even TALK to my dog. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Horrible, uncaring, and unprofessional. My mother has been a loyal client for over 10 years, with her NINE pets. She moved 2 hours away, and has called THREE TIMES in the last 10 DAYS to request a transfer of records to the new vet in her new town. Each time, she was assured it would be done "right away" by both male and female receptionists. NEVER HAPPENED. She even said on the 3rd call, "why can't you do this for me, do you require bribery?" Her two elderly dogs are now completely out of their medication. Mom's move was sudden and unplanned, so here we are with miserable and unmedicated dogs, and I absolutely can not believe she is being so mistreated and disregarded by this so-called animal hospital. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE.

First of all, I miss the vet that wore the bow-tie!! I could never remember his name. Any way, he was amazing! After my boy went in to get fixed and ended having to go digging in his small intestines to find the ball that did not drop; since that time he has been deathly scared. Mr. bow-tie took his time and had patience with my boy to regain his trust. He would sit on the floor and talk to my boy helping to ease his fear. My boy would come out from under the chair and go to him. It did not matter how long it took he stayed and waited for my boy. Since his leaving, we have had two other vets there, that I had explained my boy's fear. Neither of them seemed to give it much mind and one of those vets way of dealing with my boy was to have him put in a muzzle each time he was to come in. Saw his file in front of the front desk girl and asked her. She said he would have to have it on when he was in the back. Talk about traumatizing a dog that is already scared!! Needless to say, I will never take my boy back. That place has lost the patience, time and heart since the changing of hands. I have been going to them for so many years; took all my animals and fosters. I have included two photos. The first is the one my son took before the vet came in and the second is the one I took after the vet left from the quick impersonal examination.

We have seen a lot of the doctors here, and while we’ve never had a bad experience with any of them, we especially love Dr. Menasco & Dr. Floyd. The hours at the hospital are awesome, and we have never had a problem getting an appointment promptly. I recommend this vet to all of my friends and family.

Dr. Pinkleton and his staff were very attentive to our cat Sammie in a time of great need. Sammie was seen at the clinic for a large flesh wound on his arm, the skin was sewn together as best possible leaving a small area where the skin would not stretch to heal on it's own. After a few weeks passed the wound would not close fully due to his activity and I took him in to be seen for a follow up. There the doctor recommended a skin graft, this procedure required his arm to be sewn into a small incision on his stomach. If successful it would mean there would be living skin that would attached to the arm and allow for full recovery.
The skin graft was successful and here is Sammie post several months post surgery and is happy and pain free thanks to the amazing staff and doctors at Powhatan Animal Hospital. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Their extensive knowledge of even the worst cases makes me trust even more in the small ones. Thank you for your service and dedication to serving our extended family.

Dr.Floyd is awesome!! Everyone was pleasant, kind and informative from my first call to set up the appointment. I live in the D.C. Metro area but my sister lives in Powhatan. After a bad experience with my dogs vet in DC, I started bringing her to my sisters vet- Powhatan Animal Hospital. Dr Floyd gave me a lot of time, it felt unrushed and he answered all my questions, made thoughtful recommendations and I felt he really knew his stuff. He has excellent bed side manner. He provided options for treatment now and as her health deteriorates with age. At the end when I got the bill I was astonished. It was at least 150$ LESS than I was expecting to pay. The prices are so reasonable and the care far exceeded my expectations. If you love your animal as if it were part of your family (as I do) and demand the best, THIS IS WHERE YOU NEED TO COME!

About the crap service. And the lack. Of care given. I have to contact. This vet many occasion. During the week. To establish. Shot records. They leave u on hold 15 mins +. And are beyond rude. Once I was so frustrated. I asked to speek to the manager. She had the nerve to fight with me threaten me. And basically tell me she dosent care. I've had it up to here and recommend. All my clients that vet with them to switch. Just today another client who I had to turn away do to there neglect.

DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO AVOID THIS CARELESS VET. My dog was seen at the Powhatan Animal Hospital in February of 2016, and that will be the last time that they will ever be allowed to touch any of my animals again. When I was in the office, I told them that my dog was limping. After multiple tests and hundreds of dollars, I was assured by the vet that my dog was perfectly fine and that I had nothing to worry about. My dog continued to limp after this visit, and I eventually went to another vet to get a second opinion because he could barely walk. The second vet, armed with copies of the scans from Powhatan, knew immediately that my dog had torn his ACL and meniscus. After this visit, I called them Powhatan and confronted them about their lack of diagnosis and to this day they have refused to admit that they did anything wrong. Due to their lack of diagnosis and judgment on my pet, his left leg has suffered irreparable damage. He will permanently have issues because of this vet, even though he had surgery to repair the damage. Given the other vet options in the area, I would do whatever you can to avoid this place.

I am absolutely sick of this practice. I've always taken all of my animals to Powhatan Animal Hospital but ever since the ownership has changed it's been downhill. We currently have 3 pets who have visited this practice and every single time they throw us for a loop. Oh surprise that 3 year vaccine you paid for last year is really only good for 1 year. Oh surprise, the quote we gave you on a phone didn't include any of our other required service charges, oops! Seems pretty standard that if a customer wants to know what it will cost the have a service performed that the quote should include all required charges for that service (i.e. antibiotics & anesthesia).

We took our dog in 3 days ago because he and our other dog had a disagreement and he got the worst of it. The people greeting us were very nick. Once we saw a Doctor she was also nice. The problem came from the medications they gave us. He vomited 3 times this morning. We took him back and were told that 1 of the medications they gave was incorrect and it was causing the upset stomach. We asked if we would get a refund for that or would we get the new med for no charge as this was their mistake. We were told no refund and that if we wanted the new medication we would have to pay for it!This not about the money. In my opinion if they made the mistake we shouldn't have to pay for it.They will not be seeing us again.

Ok, so they're a little more expensive than what I was used to paying at my old veterinarians office (not in Powhatan). With that being said, I have no quarrels with the price due to the awesome staff here. Both of my dogs get extremely nervous coming to the vet and I have been continually impressed with Dr Floyd's "bedside manner". He is never in a rush, always has time for questions and just generally has a very laid back demeneaor. This helps to put both myself and my babies at ease. The front desk staff is generally very friendly too, even under stress at busy times. Kate at the front is super sweet.

I love the staff at Powhatan Animal Hospital! The ladies up front are super sweet and friendly! The lady I talked to on the phone was extremely helpful and was patient with all of my questions! I have seen several of the doctor in the past year and they are great! They took great care of my puppy and made me feel like she was in great hands. She is a little shy but the Doctor made sure to spend extra time with her to make her feel as comfortable as possible. The practice itself was super clean and did not have that normal animal hospital smell! I highly recommend going here!!!

If I could give a lower rating I would. While Dr larreck was there I had to request him when ever I brought my dog in because all the other vets were just horrible. Now that he has retired the place has gone done even more. A friend took her dog in to have surgery and instead of stitches they used staples??? They ended up getting ripped out. Took the dog back stitched her and that was it. Didn't try to clean her up or anything. Very disappointed and disgusted with the staffing.

My dogs and I have used this facility for more than 20 years, so it's obvious that we are more than satisfied with the staff there. Without exception, they are sensitive to the needs of both their animal patients and their Animal Parents. Whether it's a well-puppy examination, or the final visit for a beloved companion, we have always been treated with the utmost kindness, respect and efficiency.
I can't offer sufficient verbal praise, so I'll give you a personal example that will shed some light on our feelings regarding Powhatan Animal Hospital. After living in Chesterfield for 25+ years, we moved to Hanover. With that move the distance from home to P.A.H. jumped from a 20 mile round trip to one of just over 90 miles. As needed, we still make that trip.
