The female vet seems to hate very large dogs. Was very condescending. Acted like she's never been around a hyper large dog. I'd never go back there, she showed no compassion for my rescue dog which I'd only had a week. Acted like I should already had him perfectly trained. I have been taking my pets to Brook Run Animal Clinic since 1985. Dr Z has been part of our family since 1997. Dr. Z, whom most people don't realize, used to be one of the Vets at Maymount Park Zoo. Dr. Z has taken care of 3 generations of my dogs and 3 generations of cats. Dr. Z is patient, kind, gentle, witty and charming. He is such a kind and considerate person, he has come to our house to put our pets down in a place they felt safe and unafraid. The staff and other Docs are just as kind and professional. Only good things to say about this practice. They go the extra mile for patients and their humans. I have two special needs cats (diabetic and heart disease) and Dr. Z has been very patient with us all through adjustments in meds and testing. They even changed their insulin provider when the costs skyrocketed so they wouldn't have to charge us that inflated price. All the staff (from the front desk to the vet assistants) know me and the two cats by name. It's like a walking into Cheers but for pets. I feel like they are fair and compassionate. Just a simple phone call tells me I wouldn't take my cat here. Looking for a place I can take him if I can, called them up and lady I talked to was just real short and sour about it; especially when I told her we weren't members. The care is amazing and everyone is genuinely interested in the well being of your sweet animal. We've been coming here for over 5 years because it came highly recommended by a friend. Our cat was diagnosed with a horrible heart condition and it was caught quickly. His was a bad case and he passed away shortly after but they did all they could for him. Shortly after he died I received not only a personal phone call from our vet expressing his condolences but also a hand written, thoughtful letter. I feel like their prices are fair--having an animal isn't cheap when you want good care. We've loved our experience here and will continue to be loyal clients! I love this vet!  My kitten is quite a rascal and when I got her I took her to a different vet which absolutely grossly overcharged me, I had paid well over $400 before she was even four months old. My boyfriend found Brook Run Animal Clinic and our experience with them has been wonderful.  My kitten puts up a fight with strangers and they have been awesome with her.  We had her spayed there and I was so excited when the bill didn't break my bank, plus the staff has been wonderful every time I call or have questions.  I'm definitely an attached cat owner and they were very reassuring when I was without her overnight for her spaying.  I'm so glad to have found this vet! My girl tore her ACL and all vets that I was talking to insisted on surgery.  Prices range from 2800.00 to 4000.00.  I did not have that kind of money or have a dog sedated for 2 weeks in a crate and then do limited exercise.  I called a mobile vet and she suggested Dr.  Zuccaro.  He examined my baby and told me what my options could be.  He stated that surgery would be the last thing he would consider at this time.  Three reasons 1. she was under 25 lbs, 2. She was not driven by food, 3. She lies around all day long while we are at work indoors.  He suggested Laser Therapy,  I told him that I would love to start it and see how she responds.  I also looked into MSM and Fish oil for her.  He told me with this combination that she would heal.  She would have a lump on her knee arthritis later on and her life style would be on a leash or she could damage again and then surgery would be a must.  She received 2 treatments every week for one and a half months.  He examined her again and liked the results that he saw and asked me what I thought about how she was responding.  I told her she was doing very well.  I have had laser therapy on my back and shoulders myself and I was hoping that it would work for the dog as well.  We see the wonderful staff weekly and she loves that I take her for rides and she loves Dr. Z. and her technicians that give her the therapy!  Thank you to all the Staff at Brook Run Animal Clinic.  Big shout out for giving a person options and hope. Wow - I am not sure I can give Brook Run the stellar review they deserve...but I will try.I absolutely love this place (Cooper and Hansel, I wouldn't say they Love it, but they dont mind visiting) ....The clinical staff both in the front and back are great.  They are polite and very kind - and Dr. Zuccaro, well he is just plain awesome. My pups can be a real challenge to work with (one bites and the other is just wild)- but Dr Z is easy going and calm.  He spends time with you and answers all your questions - AND if you think of something else once you leave; call - leave a message and he will personally call you back.  Its nice having someone provide quality care to your animals.  Seriously, he treats them as if they are family because, after all - they are - and he recognizes that its OK to be that "kooky" pet owner that doesn't abide by the Cesar Milan "dog not baby" mantra... This place is fab - as a pet owner, I never want to think of the worst...but I am glad to be in good hands with this group of folks because they are top notch.  Office location is right on Brook Road Ample parking located in the back, and main entrance faces away from Brook RoadPrices:  Reasonable - In all the years of being a patient, I have never ever left their office feeling like I had been raked over the coals... They are fair and with 2 dogs, they dont over charge or up-charge you and I really appreciate that... They are up-front about treatment costs and let you know about rebates for any treatment or meds. Terrific animal clinic!  We moved to a neighborhood wa-a-ay across town about five years ago and continue to take our pets to Brook Run.  Not only that, we discovered that our closest neighbors have been taking their dogs to Brook Run for 30-some years, and that means bypassing a lot of closer vets along the way.  Dr. Zuccaro runs a class organization..  We think their service and fees are among the best in metro Richmond. I just recently moved to Richmond and was referred to this clinic . I called three times within 10 days before a real person answered the phone, even though I left two messages asking for a return call.I have two rescues who were vetted within two months of my move.  I called to make a simple appointment for a fecal exam for one (with the possibility of worms) and a titer test for the other.  Also nail trims for both.  Even with bringing in my vet records, they insisted that they would have to do a full exam on both dogs at $62 a dog.   I don't care how good Dr. Z is.  He obviously needs new office staff who can answer the phone and care enough to return phone calls.Also, to want to do a full exam on dogs who were just seen and nothing is wrong with them except to need a fecal test for worms and blood drawn so they can send it to a lab for titer levels? I am one of those people when it comes to my pet.  You know, the over-involved, hyper-sensitive, "my pets are my babies" kind of person.  Dr. Zuccaro is, without a doubt, the best vet I have ever seen.  He has been good with my dogs, cats, and even my ferrets.  He has seen us through some very serious health issues with animals, and has been consistent, caring, and helpful through all of the normal stuff with them.  He stays up to date on his research, and is very expert, but has a great way of explaining things so that we really understand what's going on and why.  He never pushes us to do unnecessary tests or treatments, and includes us in making a plan for treating our animals.  Even better, he knows us by name and remembers EVERYTHING about each of our pets.  When we moved away, we still kept him as our vet and drove over an hour to see him, because we are spoiled and can't find another vet who treats us and our animals this wonderfully.  The staff are friendly and warm, especially Karen and Becky at the front desk, and they have never charged us an unreasonable amount for anything.  In fact, their prescription prices are comparable to buying them online. We have used a few other closer vets but drive over 25 minutes to go to Brook Run Animal Clinic with our two dogs. Everyone is very nice but owner Dr. Zuccaro is a special person. He is compassionate, thorough and has a great bedside manner (for the pet too). When our oldest dog was sick and dying Dr. Z got down and did his diagnosis with her on the floor rather than subject her to lifting to the table. When she passed away we got a card from Dr.Z that made us cry. He does a lot of pro bono work with the local shelters. Here is a vet that is truly passionate about his work and patients. Read Less

Having been a client of Brook Run Animal Clinic for over 25 years, I can honestly say I have had wonderful experiences each time I have called or visited there, without exception. Drs. Christian, Zaccaro, and all the others have seen every cat and dog I have had. We received a hand-written sympathy card from Dr. Z when our beloved Alex (16 year-old kitty) died and that was so special to us. The office staff is kind while remaining professional and efficient. The establishment is spotlessly clean and very loving and capable to both me and my furry friends. I am very grateful for all they do. PROS: Professional, kind-hearted, efficient staff. Apparently things have changed at this vet, because the secretary is always rude, condescending and unprofessional both in the clinic and on the phone. They thought a giant german shepherd attacking my 5 month old pup was hilarious because apparently the shepherd is ""such a character"" and ""can't help that he's such a big tough guy."" I went back another time with my other dog and when dog came in the door he jumped on mine, which was fine because he was just excited and wanted to play, but the dog broke his flimsy retractable leash and when one of the vets/vet techs saw it happened she screamed at to ""get my dog under control or leave"" when my dog was not the one that was being hyper. I will not be taking my dog back there again, and I have found a new vet whose staff has been fantastic at the Three Chopt Animal Clinic. Read Less

Dr. Zuccaro and his office staff are very passionate about treating my pets. I have been going to him for over 16 years with a total of 3 cats and two dogs. Unlike some Doctors the pets come first with Dr. Zuccaro. I have moved to TN. from Richmond and I can tell you I really miss him taking care of my pets. When my Cat got sick with the pet food 2-7-07, I called Dr. Zuccaro and left a voice mail. He called the Dr. here in TN. to give the Dr. back ground on my Cat. My Mr. Boots died 5-4-07. Dr. Zuccaro would send me Sympathy cards for each of my pets when they pasted, I have yet to get one from the Dr. here. Little things do mean a lot.
