I made the mistake of giving the doctors here the benefit of the doubt after they did an unnecessary surgery on my dog back in December 2017.  My dog had passed a foreign object after feeling crummy for a few days. I took her to the vet to have her checked out.  After specifically telling the staff that my dog had ate an egg for breakfast, they did a scan and said that she definitely had a foreign object in her stomach that was not food.  On their advice, they did surgery only to discover that it in fact was just the egg I informed them that she had for breakfast.  She was an older dog and had a very rough recovery.  Fast forward to last week.  My dog starting having breathing problems, and I took her here because they had her records and I was assured that the unnecessary surgery was a fluke (one that I still had to pay $1,250+ for).  After performing Xrays and blood work, they said she had an enlarged heart and fluid in her lungs, but with medicine would have a good quality of life for a few months.  After taking her home, her condition did not improve as the doctor said it would.  I decided to take her to a different vet for a second opinion.  I contacted Fan Veterinary Clinic to send her files to the new vet.  They sent the receipt stating the dog had two injections.  Multiple phone calls over an hour, and they did not send my dog's files to the new vet.  Eventually they stopped picking up the phone because they had closed for the day WITHOUT sending the requested documents.  The new vet attempted to provide a diagnosis with the information they could gather, but without the files, they didn't have enough time to diagnosis and treat her and she died.  After calling the Vet the following day, they said they sent the files to the wrong address and were sorry.  They however made no attempt to reimburse me the $410 in labs and xrays that they charged me for yet would not provide when they were requested.  I made a HUGE mistake in giving this place a second chance.  Please do your pet a favor and find a new vet. My first and only experience at this vet was with my elderly rescue dog. The vet proceeded to call him "wimp" and "dork" and make fun of him for being scared of getting a shot, and never once actually called him by his real name. She then attempted to scare me into getting unnecessary and extremely expensive procedures done. When i refused, i was made to feel guilty about not wanting to spend thousands of dollars on my dog for things that weren't even wrong with him. After hearing stories from other people who have gone here it is clear that this clinic preys upon people's love of their animals in order to overcharge and make as much money as possible. Read Less

My dog had a "old lady bump" that was starting to turn color. Not only did they get us in immediately, but the Doctors took their time diagnosing and explaining what exactly was going on. I have two 11 year old dogs, so I'm in a near constant state of fear for their health, and this clinic, not only takes us serious but explains everything in a way that calms my wife and I down. Nice staff, very friendly but seems like they really only care about the money. If you’re willing to throw money out the door to POSSIBLY solve a pets issue you’ll be fine here. If you’d rather get down to the real problem go elsewhere. Everything is just another ploy to get you to come back for another appointment, another analysis, another stool screening. I love Dr. Chelsea Mason and her passion for animals. I've been to vets where the doctors are rough and quick and I would gladly pay more to have a doctor like Chelsea. She's very thorough and attentive; however, the front office staff aren't friendly and after three appointments there I do think they try to push additional items that you don't necessarily need. I recently brought my cat Ringo here for a check up as he was not eating (very unusual for this portly feline of mine!). Ringo was in quite the mood and was less then cordial to say the least. The vets took his unruly behavior in stride and were very professional and caring throughout the visit. It's unfortunate that other people have had a bad experience with this place.From day one I have had nothing but an exceptional experience. I am a helicopter dog mom and the staff was amazing. The front desk girls always show extra love to L and treat her and I so kind.L has had quite a few skin/allergy issues and Dr. Debnath especially took the time to really help me and make sure we figure out what was really the issue. I despised Varina vet clinic and was desperate to find somewhere fast when I got a new puppy. Called and they got me right in. Super friendly staff at the front. I didn't enjoy Dr. Mason as she seemed to be irritated with having to deal with a puppy. I felt as if she could've dealt with my puppy better rather than saying he won't be a patient much longer if I don't fix his behavior. Most loving dog ever. He is 14 weeks old, so he isn't a fan of having his mouth checked. He scratched her trying to get away and she grabbed his neck really hard and he yelped for a long while. You could tell it was out of frustration. Since then, I refused to go see her but Justin was able to take him to her and he said he had no problem. He's hyper and I don't think she is a good fit for puppies. The other vet there is amazing though. Now that I've gotten all of my shots, I'm more than likely not returning unless something serious happens and I need somewhere with records. Love the front desk and y'all keep the good attitudes up. I cannot say enough bad things about this place. We took our dog here for a little over a year. The receptionists are always very rude. The vets do not seem to care about any of the pets who actually come in. When we had our dog neutered and I went to pick him up I could hear him in the back just howling from pain. He does not usually bark and that was the first time I had EVER heard that noise (and have not heard it since). I asked the receptionist if he had been doing that long and she said yes but like an hour and he hasn't stopped and she acted very annoyed. I asked if she had thought that maybe he was in pain and she just looked at me. When I got home and gave him the pain meds they had given me he  stopped within half an hour once the meds kicked in. They were clearly not monitoring his pain at all. We immediately stopped using this clinic and found a new vet that we love (Broad St Vet).This weekend our dog got bloat in his stomach and his stomach rotated. I noticed something was wrong and took him to the emergency vet out of town where he had emergency surgery. I was told if I had waited even a few hours he would have almost definitely not made it through the surgery. I was also told when he was neutered there was a relatively simple procedure which could have been done to tack his stomach so this never could have happened. This was never brought to my attention at the time and should have been since his breed is greatly at risk for this to happen. It also would have saved me around $7k but that is a different subject. One of our dogs has crazy allergies and they really took the time to help figure out how to make him feel better and how to keep his allergies in check. I've been taking my cat here for three years and started taking my dog here a year ago (when we got him). The staff is always friendly and I have never had to wait for my appointment - actually I can usually be taken back a few minutes early. I love that the vets and techs always try to make sure that we understand the situation, don't try to make you feel dumb, and don't try to push products on us. I've paid more for vet services and I've also paid less, but the service and staff here are SO worth the price. The Fan Veterinary Clinic was the BEST vet clinic I have ever been to. Everyone was so nice. This was the first time I have ever had a vet tell me that I do not need a certain shot, it really showed that they were genuinely concerned with the well being of the animal and not making an extra forty dollars. I was referred to this clinic from my grandfather, who has taken many animals there. My new puppy was loved on by the staff and the doctor was very knowledgeable and did not rush.
