Love them. My dog has been going here since she was a puppy. They are very efficient and the shots take no time to get done. My dog doesn't even notice that she's even have any. I'd recommend them. Also your pet must be neutered or spayed for their vaccines. You can prepay to have your pet neutered or spayed there if they have not been already. Then get your shots and come back for the surgery. Highly recommend this place for bunnies! I was very worried about finding somewhere to get my bun neutered because it can be quite expensive and also bunnies are extremely fragile creatures. Prevent A Litter was very affordable and caring. They provided us with all the info we needed about after care as well as an 24/7 emergency line. They also called us three times to check up on him since he didn't wanted to eat for the first day. Everything is resolved now and he is a much happier bunny! He's eating more hay and drinking more water and is 100% litter trained. Definitely recommend this clinic for any concerned bunny parents. Read Less

Prevent A Litter also known as PAL in Carytown between downtown Richmond and the West end, is a great asset to the community. They provide low cost spay and neuter as well as vaccinations and other veterinary services. I would recommend anyone with pets (especially if you are a multi pet household) to give them a try. We recently acquired 3 more kitties in addition to the one we already have. If you go there for vaccinations, just be sure to take your pet's proof of spay or neuter with you. Read Less

LOVE THE PLACE!!! I have taken my pets and strays...and friend's pets that could not get their animal there due to health reasons. SAME GREAT SERVICE...to ALL the animals. They take phenomenal care of all the animals! That being said. ...they provide an amazing service at a fraction of the cost at a regular veterinary office. They are becoming more and more popula because of this. If you find the front desk service slow...it's because they are OUTRAGEOUSLY BUSY. I took both of my cats to PAL for vaccinations and the staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming to both of them. My cats tend to get a little frightened when I take them to the vet and the staff at PAL treated them as if they were part of their family. My cat WAS a patient here. Took him last weekend to get his vaccines. He was very friendly and let other people and animals go near him and pet him. We waited for over an hour for him to be seen. He was in the back room for just three minutes until the nurse brought him out and told me he was too aggressive and tried to hurt her, giving multiple stories and bs excuses. It made no sense. So I left and took him to a different vet today. Same thing, different animals and people went near him and pet him, and as soon as the vet saw him he went right up to her and started rubbing on her and let her give him his vaccine. No signs of aggression whatsoever. Which leads me to believe that the staff of Prevent A Litter didn't even try. You'd think that an "animal hospital" would be used to dealing with aggressive animals and know how to handle it. Except my cat showed no signs of aggression. I will never bring my pet back here again. It's a waste of time and money.Read Less

Cozy little veterinarian office. Affordable prices for common procedures, considerate and polite staff and great service! Took my puppy for his neuter here and they were considerate and available when his stitches were irritated. Great follow up care and availability. There are so many homeless, hungry and sick cats everywhere! I register my dog there when he was a puppy and he took all the vaccines and he was also neutered and it was perfect, they treat the dogs and cats with love and patience. We picked you all first because you saved Angel about 4 years ago who had an inguinal hernia!! The only reason you could not haelp March 26,2 2015 is because on Thursday's no vet is available. I left a very detailed message about a neuter for a rescued dog and heard back 5 days later...I JUST missed the phone ringing and then called back IMMEDIATELY once I listened to the message asking for details I had ALREADY left in my initial message. I was then hung up on FOUR times...hard to leave a message when you are continually being hung up on! I even heard the girl the last time it happened, in the background, say ""I did it AGAIN"" as she hung the phone up...meaning picking up the phone instead of letting the machine pick it up, I have to assume. I have used P.A.L. DOZENS of times, but they are putting themselves in last place when we now have R.A.L. and the SPCA . They do have exceptional care, and I realize the decision to not have a receptionist is money driven... but in a time when money is tight and people are still wiling to rescue and spend their own hard-earned $$ on animals other than their own, PAL needs to understand service is an issue too. This is a wonderful service to getting you animals sterilized.. I would not be able to have a home full of rescued pets if not for PAL. I agree with the other posters.. The girls in the office and on the phone have always been beyond helpful.. and friendly. They were always knowledgeable in all questions I asked. I have brought two cats, two dogs, and three rodents to this clinic over the years for various maintenance visits and emergency visits. They not only are extremely reasonable in their pricing (refusing to jack up costs unreasonably like most clinics), but they do their best to help each animal to their best capability. They recommended neutering my rodents as a cancer prevention measure and made special arrangements to do these surgeries (not having done such small animals before). Each surgery was a complete success. They also make every effort to be as humane as possible in the event that an animal needs euthanasia. If they encounter something new (as with treating rodents), they take the time to research the best approach, rather than turning you away. I think the employees at P.A.L. go above and beyond their duties on a daily basis. Especially when it goes to helping the ferile animals in the city of Richmond. Read Less

As a former veterinary assistant, I was particularly interested in how Prevent A Litter was able to manage so many surgeries in a single day. Well, after conversing with two excellent surgical assistants as well as the veterinary surgeon, my mind was put at ease. Because surgery is all they do, they have the systems and procedures down to a science. Each cat/dog/rabbit is monitored by an assistant and the surgeon during every moment that it is under anesthesia. And, since they are not a full-service practice, they are not distracted with being called upon to take xrays, fill prescriptions for ear infections, respond to a drop-in nail trim, and the zillion other things that most veterinary assistants have to worry about. These people have a singular goal, which is getting pets (as well as WILD cats and dogs!) spayed and neutered safely! Even the aftercare is second to none. They have a 24 hour emergency phone number that connects the patients' owners directly to one of the clinic's managerial staff--in the rare circumstance of a complication. I also know, from personal experience, that the staff at PAL is far from rude. If a client believes he or she received a less-that-warm reception I can only assume that the client misinterpretted something that was said. The hospital wouldn't have a jam-packed schedule every day for 7 years unless a bunch of people found the service to be top notch! Read Less

The person that posted regarding the incompetent staff at Prevent A Litter is clearly the exception. S/he could not be more inaccurate, and although it is not fair to make assumptions I would be inclined to think what she recalled as a bad experience at P.A.L would most likely have to do with her/him. P.A.L. has been providing spay neuter services with the utmost professionalism and competency for years! They have helped me personally; my family, friends and neighbors, and we all continue to rave about them. They are quite obviously a specialized practice, having perfected the spay and neuter procedures, with little to no recovery time for all of the furry babies I have brought to them. The staff has always been well informed and pleasant, even going out of their way to answer my many questions, call me the moment that ""Midnight's"" surgery was complete and even accommodating an early pick-up time so that I could make it to work. I have even spoken personally to the veterinarian in regards to a wound on a stray cat that I found. He spent several minutes explaining the situation and was kind and professional. I find it hard to believe that anyone could have a bad experience there...I, as are so many people I know, am so grateful for their services. They make an invaluable contribution to the animals. I completely support the mission of Prevent a Litter that focuses on preventing overpopulation of animals. I have also heard great things about the surgeon from my regular vet. DO YOUR RESEARCH before going here, so that you know what your dog needs. I found the staff very incompetent. When asking questions about my dog's health, I was never given a straight answer. I was basically ""steam-rolled"" and ignored the entire time I was there. I would speak with one person one day and be told contradicting statements from other employees. My dog was giving vaccinations at an inappropriate time and I was told it was my problem and was not reimbursed. When calling, several staff members were VERY rude with me and I was told, and I quote, ""You need to do your research, because your Vet doesn't know what he's talking about."" I would rather pay the difference, and go to a vet than deal with inconsiderate, sarcastic, and rude staff. The ONLY pros for this place are the cheap prices. However, I think you get what you pay for, and maybe less. Read Less
