We have had a long time relationship with Three Chopt animal clinic. Our girl Mystic started as a pup there and we had 16 years with Dr. Patterson. He is so compassionate and truly knows the heart of your pet and family. The hardest day was when I had to call to let them know our sweet girl had passed. I cannot tell you how difficult that call was to make, the compassion of the staff who took my call and the special note from Dr. Patterson that followed was so genuine and ...heartfelt and comforting. It meant so much to me and my family. Dr. Greene was wonderful. She delivered some unexpected and hard news with compassion and caring. She treated our Hannah with tenderness & dignity. She allowed us time with Hannah before she crossed The Rainbow Bridge. The entire staff was kind. They allowed us to leave at another entrance and not have to deal with going through the waiting room and the final expenses right then while we were so devastated by losing Hannah and the pain was so new. Three Chopt has a great team! From the friendly front desk to the people taking care of the back! My dog loves the female vet (I always forget her name). She is more than willing to do whatever you need done and not make excuses as to why they cannot do something because your pet is unhappy about it. The older male vet is very straight to the point and wants animals in and out. I do not recommend him which is why I rate this business 4 stars.Read Less

Happy for now to call them our vet. Our visit was pleasant. The Dr ended up checking out both of our cats even though we were only in for one of them. The building was clean and neutral smelling. Dogs that came in weren't immediately terrified like some vets.The cats didn't freak out either.I was disappointed that at least one of the doctors takes cat de-clawing too easily. Didn't even try to talk the lady out of amputating part of the cats paw (look it up).  It's a horrible practice and it's the vets job to educate their clients on what it really entails. Read Less

Dr Whitfield has been the vet for my dogs all their life! She has been seeing my 12 year old dog since she was a pup and she is a great Dr! She has always been very helpful during visits and over the phone when inquiring about possible visits. She always has time for you and your animals, you never feel rushed through your visit. The rest of the staff is just as helpful and pleasant. I recently added two new puppies one 6 months and one three months in age. They love seeing all the staff members and getting treats! Prices are great and I have never had a problem getting the great vet care I have come accustomed to and expect every time. They always do a wonderful job in catering to my dogs needs and treating my pups for whatever they need to stay healthy. Definitely a keeper! Read Less

I think the Vets here are better than most other Vets in the area, but I have limited experence. I agree they are very caring but thats easy to say. Are they wise, can they see the early stages of an illness and head it off be for it cost you an arm and a leg or kills you pet, less one star. Their profile is too high to be bad Vets, and their location dictates higher fees, yet they do give a few discounts when you go over a certain dollar amount,. Its very hard to be a Great Vet, loving pets and loving the job is what it is, but reality is they are good Vets, not Great ones. There is a reason this company does not allow Google reviews. They would all be terrible. While the doctors are nice and professional the same can not be said for the front desk staff. It is a shame that the uneducated front desk staff can lead to loss of business for the doctors. Dr. Patterson- you have been a great vet for years, but I will never return because of how I was spoken to when I called to make an appointment. I work for a major retail corporation and these employees wouldn't last a month if they were held to the same standards.  I'll be taking my two animals elsewhere and not recommending this clinic to anyone. Today was my first visit with Three Chopt Animal Clinic and I have to say I'm already impressed. From scheduling the appointment to being seen on time, the Clinic was great for this very involved pet owner. I saw Dr. Paterson and he thoroughly reviewed my dog's history, medications and options. A million thanks to this staff for outstanding, genuine care of my dog. I had a home visit vet for years, but when she retired, I was at a loss. Over the next year I tried a couple of vets in hopes of finding the one whose care I appreciated, and whose fees I could afford...no luck. Then one day when I knew the lump on my dog's leg needed to be checked, I called this clinic. Not only was I seen the same day (and SO relieved to discover compassion here), but when I took the vet's advice and opted for surgical removal of that lump, I was scheduled for the following day! I can't say enough about the comfort I experienced at this clinic: I knew my dog was in skilled hands, and would be well cared for from the attendants to the doctor and his assistant...and what more can a pet lover want? When my fees were totaled, they were within 15.00 of what I'd be told the day prior- no surprises, no hidden charges. Although I enjoy  the relaxation of the home visit vet I had, I can honestly say Three Chopt Animal Clinic is right for us- and I am grateful to have found them! Read Less

We started taking our senior rescue dog here after we adopted him about 8 months ago, without any sort of recommendation.  I was worried we were taking a gamble, since I have heard stories from coworkers about their vet offices nickle and diming them for every little thing.  Three Chopt has been amazing.  We never have trouble getting an appointment or getting calls back when we have questions, and the prices are very reasonable. We see Dr. Keller.  She seems very interested in saving us from unnecessary expenses and has been spot-on with diagnosis and treatment for our boy so far.  For some reason she is not listed on the website under "doctors," but she's the most compassionate and knowledgeable vet I have encountered, having tried a handful of vets in the Richmond area.  While our dog was very scared of the vet at first, he seems to be coming around and the staff is so nice.  I couldn't ask for better treatment for my furrbaby. When I moved to Richmond, I started taking my pets here because it was close to my apartment. A year later, I moved closer to the city, and so I changed vets because driving 20-30 minutes with a sick dog was... not ideal. After the dog passed, I came back to this vet. (It's easier to get sick cats places, and I was not happy with my then current vet). I couldn't be happier with the quality of service, the friendliness of staff, and the overall vibe of Three Chopt Animal Clinic. I've been taking my cat here for the last three years and I've been really pleased. I have used both Dr. Whitfield and Dr. Patterson and both are fantastic. They both have a very gentle nature about them that puts my animal at ease and me as the owner at ease knowing my animal is being cared for by caring and trustworthy people. I've never had an issue making an appointment and the times when my scheduled has been tight I have been able to drop my cat off as early as 7:30am and they will see her at their convenience during the day and give me a call to let me know what how the appointment went.
