I've tried many Roanoke and Salem veterinarians over the years and none have ever been as wonderful as PetVet and Dr. Karpinski. Our family moved to Riner two years ago and we still take our three dogs to Roanoke to see him if there are ever any concerns. My experience with PetVet has been nothing more than perfect! I love the staff, our doctor is knowledgeable and friendly. He always gives us and our puppy his undivided attention, and doesn’t try to rush us when we have a lot of questions. Our puppy loves him. Their prices are very fair, and they are open most Saturdays unlike most other Vets. We have a Vet place no more than 5 minutes from our house, but we Drive 20 minutes into town to bring our puppy to Pet Vet. Only the best will do for our little Frenchie. Read Less

Affordable!!! $50 office visits. Make no mistake, I said affordable not cheap. This place is top notch. They even have a pet medication drive thru for refills. Office ladies are always great. We’ve seen both vets and have nothing but praise. They’re very down to earth with owners and patient with animals. I drive by three veterinarians to get to pet vet. It’s worth it. If I could give ZERO stars I would! Today was the final straw for me with PetVet. I have been going to see them for over 6 years and never had a problem until recently. The staff here is completely unorganized and EXTREMELY rude! Today when I called to make an appointment I was put on hold multiple times and then when questioning "Calene" about information she was giving that was EXTREMELY FALSE I asked to speak to another staff member who KNEW what they were talking about. Instead of honoring my wish to speak to a competent staff member she slammed the phone down. I have four dogs and a cat and breed dogs so I can tell you that I have been in and out of their office MANY times. As time has gone on the lack of care has declined significantly and the prices have dramatically increased! A few weeks ago I called to make an appointment for my dog who had a small scrape on his ear. I was told that I would need to "drop him off so he could be put under anesthesia to examine." Excuse ME???? I don't think so! Firstly, I would NEVER drop my dog off for anesthesia for a small scrape on his ear. Listen to how crazy that sounds! Secondly, how can you even make that call when speaking to someone on the phone? I would expect them at least look at the ear before jumping to conclusions. When my 6 month old puppy was ill last year and kept throwing up they told me "he probably has cancer!" Based off what evidence exactly??? Two weeks later with no improvement I took him back to the office which they gave me a dewormer for him WITHOUT first doing any type of stool analysis! The dewormer was over $100!!!! When he wasn't any better after that they asked to do a stool analysis after another week. I gladly took them the sample and then had to call DAILY for over TWO WEEKS before they ever had the nerve to return my call to tell me they found NOTHING! What a big waste of time and money!! STEER CLEAR OF THIS VET!!! They do not care for animals at all they are just out to make a lot of money quick by playing on emotions of pet owners. Once they have made the money they no longer care about you or your pet! I wouldn't trust anything they say! Not only is the staff rude but the female vet is extremely stuck up! She spoke to my husband like he was the dumbest person on earth. I quickly reminded her that he has a doctorate degree as well and that we were on her level so she didn't need to speak down to us. I went in for a first visit with my rescue Husky. Dr. Cordle and the staff were so kind and unphased by my questions as a new dog owner. They provided great tips, clipped his nails, microchipped him, and had heart worm medicine available at the front desk. I scheduled my visit online and received confirmation within hours. It was a great experience, and they were open on a holiday so it worked great for my schedule. I plan to make regular visits to PetVet. Read Less

My cat was lost and a resident brought him in to be micro chipped. My cat was identified and Pet Vet did not hold onto my cat for me to come get him. I could have been to the clinic in five minutes. Instead they returned my cat to this stranger, who was not IDed as the owner via the microchip. When lost animals are brought to shelters or veterinarians and owners or other emergency contacts are reached, they should be given back to the contacted owner as soon as possible at the business location. The resident who brought in my cat really wanted to keep him and had already renamed him in 36 hours. Luckily this resident was an honest and good person and returned my frantic phone call. In the future I hope this business chooses to return lost pets directly to their owners. Read Less

I take both of my cats here, and I have always been impressed by the staff and the facility during all visits, both routine and emergency. Recently, my cat had a medical emergency following a terrible experience at a different veterinary office. Pet Vet fit us in last minute and took care of my very sick cat, showing compassion and regard for our financial situation. The doctor did only what was necessary and was successful in treating the root cause of my cat's illness - all for a fair price. I cannot tell you how thankful I am for their services! Read Less

We had an emergency with 1 of our rescue kitties and our regular Vet was unable to take care of our baby. The Vets and staff were fantastic from the first phone call to the last phone call. We're accustomed to never seeing or talking to a Vet (low cost but you loose all the personal touch.) The Vet called us because I had a full schedule of Doctors appointments myself so we had to drop off Tux. I had to have called a dozen times with different questions. I would like to tell everyone who has a pet to really choose a vet with compassion. We recently lost our beautiful greyhound to a sudden illness. I can not ever thank pet vet enough for being there for us and her. Your staff is top notch and your docs are the best. It was one of the hardest times I can remember but you guys showed love and so much compassion for us and her. And my other fur babies you take care of angel jazz and lady bug. We feel like your our extended family because you always have taken the best of care of our babies. The card we received touched my heart so much. Love the Doctor's and staff! My previous vet was not patient with one of my dog's needs. They stressed him to where it was difficult to have him examined or draw blood without expensive anesthesia. The folks at Pet Vet understood his prompts and didn't push him past his comfort level. They did his exam and blood work in stages during his appointment. I gave them one star because I could not give them 0 stars. Possibly the most insensitive, incompetent vet I have ever taken my animals to. I am not saying the vets are not decent, but the "help" at the front desk is abysmal! Rude, Contrite and In need of a few customer service classes...although I think they should just be fired because if I owned that business I wouldn't want these rude nit wits ruining my business. I have 3 dogs 2 cats and I have several family members and friends that took their pets there. We have all left! My dog Tucker had his first visit at Pet Vet 3 years ago after my dog Daisy had to be put down for Lyme disease. To avoid and prevent this Tucker got all the immune shots needed. I told them he was found on the Blue Ridge Parkway four years ago as a pup,abanded and starving. The people who found him had to give him up as he was large. 97lbs. Anyway, Nov.2015 took hm to Pet Vet for annuels. We told them that Tucker had real problems eating. Threw up ev. Day .They said it was probably an allergy. So anti nausia meds. Told me to give Benidryl and change his diet. We managed his diet and treated him for so-called allergies till Jan.2016 We noticed weight loss and appetite loss . we then went to another Vet. For a second opinion. This doctor was very concerned about Tucker ,he had lost 17 lbs in two months. To be sure the new Vet said a dog doesn't stop eating because of an allergy. Blood work revealed high protein loss in urine resulting in kidney failure. His glands back legs swollen. The Lyme test said he was in last stages of the disease. To sum it up Pet Vet missed many clues. They NEVER suggested he get a Lyme test. They are negligent . I will never take my pets there again. THIS PLACE,PET VET IS A MORTUARY NOT A HOSPITAL... This was my first visit with my puppy. The staff was excellent and handled her very well. They were professional and answered all my questions.
