HE saved my baby's life!! Wow He was the Doctor that saw my baby at the ER VET on Peter Creek rd. I called to set up a follow up with him and he has her on med's for her heart, we don't know how long she will be with us BUT with the med;s she has a very good chance of 1 to 2 more years with me. I had gone through 2 Mo's and almost $800 and 3 Xrays with my vet that has seen her for 9 years and still no answers other then her heart was enlarged hummm! So thank you DR. We take our two dogs and a cat there and have always found them to be very professional and helpful. I became a client at Read Mountain Animal Hospital when I adopted my giant goodendoodle, Teddy, as a pup. From the first visit I felt secure in the obvious knowledge and care shown by Dr. Bruce and all of his staff. When Teddy was 8 months old he became very ill and within days I was not sure he would survive. No tests or treatment seemed to help, but Dr. Bruce figured out the puzzle and absolutely saved my dog. I don't think my dog would have survived if we had gone to a different vet. Dr. Bruce has a huge wealth of knowledge, and always seems to be learning more, keeping him open to truly see and understand what is happening with his patients. I especially appreciate how thoroughly Dr. Bruce explains the options available, risks and benefits, and why he is recommending the purse of treatment. Have taken my animals to Read Mountain since they opened. Was so glad to find a vet who is obviously so knowledgable and willing to research further if need be. Dr. Bruce has worked with my GSD for years to find a level of comfort for a cronic,complicated health problem. We moved down to Blue Ridge, VA from Long Island NY with our two Giant Schnauzers in 2010. Our older guy had a history of chronic health problems. Dr. Bruce made some adjustments to his medications that were extremely helpful! As they aged, both Mosby and our rescue, Bryan required a number of surgeries. They also developed issues that required diagnosis and intervention by specialists - which Dr. Bruce referred us to. Ultimately, Mosby had to be euthanized at the age of 14 1/2 and Bryan went to the bridge a year later. Dr. Bruce and the staff were very compassionate and helpful in both cases. Now we have 1 year old Giant Schnauzer, Daisy and recently rescued 4 year old Dexter from Great Lakes Giant Schnauzer Rescue. Dex required surgery on his eyelid and it has resolved his chronic eye infections! One thing we really appreciate is the time Dr. Bruce takes to explain situations that arise with our dogs! We love taking all of our Labrador Retrievers to see Dr. Bruce. He has been our general veterinarian of choice for a long time and he never disappoints. We TRUST him to look after our special companions. One of our boys, Tank, is now the Canine Ambassador for the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech; many of our puppies are now working Service Dogs and are in the process of becoming medical alert dogs, emotional assistance dogs, and Pet Therapy Dogs. After our dog had been a patient for a year, he had developed kennel cough. We were told they would not see him for several days and only after hours. He was hacking uncontrollably and in considerable pain, but the receptionist was obviously more concerned with the extra work of sterilizing the office over our loved one's health. Luckily a colleague had told us their vet (on the side of town mind you) was a winner, so we called in desperation to see if they could help. To our happy surprise, they told us to bring him in. Their team went the extra mile for our dog when Read Mountain Animal Hospital could not be bothered. Avoid this practice if you love your pets! Love these folks. I found them with my first dog 14 years ago...and they have taken care of my dogs since. Dr. Bruce is kind and super knowledgable and always explains everything. He has answered my calls on weekends and nights when my dog was sick and just goes over and beyond if needed. A few years ago he and his staff saved the life of my best friend's dog from salmonella poisoning. I would not go anywhere else. These guys are like family. Read Less
