UPDATED: Upgrade from 2 stars. The practice manager, Sarah, reached out and we had a great discussion. Sarah was very understanding about all of my concerns. She was professional and kind. It sounds like the clinic has a plan to work on strategies to address some of their shortcomings. I will continue to give them my business as long as they continue to be humble about their missteps.OG POST: I want to like this place. I am ex-practice manager so I understand how difficult this industry can be, but Aldie Vet Hospital disappointed me. Our first visit was fine with both dogs. Provided our records which the tech and DVM seemed to look at prior which was nice. The DVM did a thorough exam on the dogs. She was friendly, but spent a lot of time typing notes. I would've liked more interaction and to get to know her and the clinics practice style better since we were trying to establish a relationship. I appreciate the thoroughness of the notes in my account as well as my receipt but, perhaps don't spend the entire appointment typing. Again, not the end of the world just a bit annoying. She was good with my dog so thats really what its about. We had one late-night visit with our Golden, it was again, nothing bad but just a bit lackluster. I was friendly with the tech and learned there had been a change in mgmt recently as well as major tech turnover. They were just starting to staff up after losing a quite few people. Thats a red flag but not sure if thats because of the new or old mgmt. Hearing about such a big transition is what is alarming.Fast forward a few months: One of our dogs has beginning stages of congestive heart failure. We did the cardiac workup (echo, labs, etc.) for a pretty penny. Got her started on meds which helped significantly with the coughing. After a couple months, they wanted to recheck labs and echo. Not really what we wanted to do since we were being conservative with care, but fine.. we did it. Refilled meds. Doing great. Then, a month later, her meds ran out again because they won't do long term RXs. Again, not bad, but annoying. They refused to fill them because of the "liability" without doing more labs and another echo. Um, the meds you are prescribing are not controlled substances nor are there any major side effects to them so not sure what liability you mean? We asked the vet to specify, he stated he didn't want to be responsible if the pet died. She's a 13 year old chihuahua with CHF. She's going to die probably within the next 2 years and we don't want to go broke over it. The meds obviously helped, theres no further medical risk if shes on them.. why cant you just fill them? I consulted with my previous vet and standards of care through the AVMA online. Both agreed, minimal liability to the CHF drugs. That made us consider ditching this vet but fine we'll try to move on. Again, not bad they wanted to be thorough but annoying to do so much expense diagnostic testing in a short amount of time when we knew the diagnosis. One more try: called to get an estimate for dental cleaning on our young healthy dog. Receptionist didn't understand i just wanted a ballpark estimate. I explained I understand there are variations of treatment requirements, but generally speaking what is the charge for anesthesia, pre-surg labs, rads, etc? No go. Okay, whats your cheapest dental exam youve ever done, ever, and the most expensive (knowing neither would be my dog but wanted to see how far this would go)? She said they would have to do a dental exam. Well, we were there 4 months ago for a full annual physical. Saw the vet examine my dogs teeth. Did she not grade them during that exam? If not, thats annoying. She literally wrote 2 pages of notes and forgot four words (X Grade Dental Disease)?? I find THAT hard to believe. If she did, the clinic would see they were a grade 1, FAR FETCHED grade 2. Soooo... I should again be able to get a BALLPARK estimate without another full exam. Unless, do they give a free dental exam with quote? Nope. Again, annoying. I bickered with the receptionist some more and realized I was being rude and gave up. She said she'd have the tech "try to put something together".I dont know. To me, if I'm willing to drop $500 bucks or potentially more on a dental cleaning the least you can do is give me a free quote. This clinic just seems to have weird values, strange ways of handling clients, and not a super deep understanding that by empowering the client a bit, you will make way more money off of them then nickel and dime'ing to death.I guess overall no one was bad. The vets are decent. Techs are decent. Front desk could use some education on standards of care and handling requests. It's just an annoying experience and I don't like being annoyed. I will look for another vet, but if I can't find anyone better, this place will suffice. They are at least sweet to the dogs, thorough, and seem like decent people. Side note: Groomer is a gem and will continue to use her. Read Less
