Called in to get an estimate on a teeth cleaning for my 4 year old pit bull. The woman said I would have to come in. I then asked her to ball park it and she said she couldn't. I then stated "so it could cost anywhere from $10 to $1500?" and her reply was yes. Seriously? This woman clearly didn't want to be any help. Called 610 animal hospital and Stafford animal hospital right after and they were both able to quote exact prices. Struggling to understand this. Read Less

I recently had to put down my 14 year old Border Collie - Foster. He stopped eating and had diarrhea. I called for an urgent appointment with Dr. Johnson, who had been monitoring Foster's health, unfortunately he was not available. Foster was not going to be able to make it for much longer, the only available appointment was with Dr. Taft the next day. Dr. Taft had seen my female border collie couple of years ago and I did not liked him, he was mean to my dog and myself, did not address all my concerns and acted as if he was on a rush, he never say my dogs again. Unfortunately, during this time of urgency and pain, I had no other option. On the day of the appointment, I decided it was time to put him to sleep, he was deteriorating rapidly. My daughter had to carry Foster inside the clinic, he was too weak to walk, the assistant put us in a room and assured us that Dr. Taft will answer all our questions through this painful process and that he will be very patient with us. My daughter laid our very-very weak dog on the floor. Dr. Taft entered the room, saw the dog on the floor, did not ask questions, did not addressed us or ask if we have questions or any concerns. He looked in the computer, looked at me and told me he had to put a muzzle on our weak and ill dog, I said what? He is so weak and ill, how can you muzzle him? He said – well last time we had to put a muzzle on him – what last time? Foster had been seen by Dr. Johnson, not him! (Dr. Johnson never muzzle Foster) – Dr. Taft had no regard for my pain or that of my daughter, he did not explain the process, he did not address any of our concerns properly, as I kept asking questions about the shots or why he was pocking my dog so many times with the needle, he grew frustrated for not being able to find my dog’s vein, I asked him – what was happening and that if that was ok. he responded bluntly - “I have been doing this for 8 years”! Dr. Taft nor the nurse explained anything, Dr. Taft didn’t even looked at me. I regret the moment I accepted this insensible individual to put my dog to sleep. Foster is in heaven now, but I feel terrible. Read Less

Hello everyone. I have been wrestling with writing a review because I wanted to be fair and now its time to write the story of my experience. I have gone here since April of 2017. I have had good doctors and bad doctors. The staff has always been kind welcoming when I come in. The good doctor gave me great information on my pet and I appreciated it, however, he did recommend a bunch of tests that would have been quite the bill that I felt was not necessary. I did eventually get a thyroid test done and it was warranted, they helped to square away my Husky "Athena's" thyroid issue after a few tests. First off the test - They never asked me how they were going to draw the blood, they straight up did a jugular draw on my dog without my permission, I found this out after the second draw; you see they separated me from my dog and just went and did the procedure. That pissed me off after I found out how they were doing the blood draw, after the second draw a month later! So I get over myself and decide I will give them one more shot, I take my girl Athena in for an ear issue, I think I know what it is and how it needs to be treated for she has had this issue before, not being a Dr. I have to make sure and take the doctors word right? Well anyways, while in the examination room the female vet - who had the shakes for some reason - was lecturing me on how to treat Athena and not in a good way, she was badgering me repeatedly stating the same thing over and over again and I finally had to say in a stern voice "Thank You, I Got It!" That cooled her off and she started being nice, well after the exam when all was forgiven and I was getting ready to walk out of the exam room she fires a parting shot at me stating "Huskies should not be in this environment its deadly for them" I was stunned, she then repeated it again and walked into the back room area out through the other exam room door. So she got her parting shot in on me and I walked out, paid and then got in my car, I then stepped out of the box - assessed the situation and decided to just let it go and ask for a different doctor next time. Well here is the final straw for my story. I had asked for Athena's meds to be refilled and they stated that they need to do another blood draw to see if she needs more or less of the thyroid medicine, so I ask the price and of course it is through the roof. I decided at this time to not utilize them as a vet anymore and have chosen a different vet for our pets services after all the new vet said it only needs to be done if the pet is showing symptoms or every six months to a year, AND it was a third of the price and I had the results back the next day...Hmm... I did have to get the paperwork for the blood draw for the new vet needed it, they sent the wrong data which put me into a bind while visiting the new vet; after I had called and asked for the "correct" previous blood test results it finally got sent to my new vet. Now I will give the girl that took care of me props for she was very kind and considerate, I will also give a shout out to most of the staff, however, the three things that pissed me off (1) Taking a jugular draw without my permission - I would have said NO, (2) Badgering me repeatedly about the care of my animal, if you want me to do it a certain way teach me don't belittle me, and (3) do not tell me that "Huskies should not be in this environment!" I had a husky of 13 years, he lived 5 years in South Carolina and 7 years in North Carolina, he only survived 1 year in Virginia so please do NOT fire a parting shot at me then hide behind the door as I leave. Not Cool! Sorry for the hard working persons of your hospital but it only takes one bad experience to cast a shadow on the all the good. Respectfully, Greg Read Less

I only visited this facility one time with my cocker spaniel for a ear infection. The doctor said it was a bacteria and yeast infection and prescribed a medication that cost $65 and it did not clear the infection after 14 days of using it. I call the facility to reach the doctor to explain the situation and it took one week to speak with her. After speaking with her, she agreed to discount a second medication to see if it works but when I show up to pick it up , it was full price of $48...I spoke to the manager who said he would not discount the medication and that has to be done by the doctor. I asked him to contact her and he refused and told me to come back 4 days later when she is back. I told him my dog has been suffering for 2 weeks and you are asking me to allow him to suffer 4 more days because you refuse to call the doctor? I told him the communication at this facility is terrible and it is a simple diagnoses of an ear infection which is common for cocker spaniel. The doctor should have prescribed the proper medication from the start. I paid a total of $230 for one visit and two different medications for a simple ear infection..it's absurd! My first and only visit here was very poor. I have gone to other veterinarians and never experienced this with my cocker spaniel who is 10 years old and gets ear infections often. I recommend not going to Aquia/Garrisonville hospital..look elsewhere. Read Less

We have boarded our dog here several times but will not take our dog back to Aquia-Garrisonville again. My dog got her medical exam three weeks ago from our regular vet and we called Aquia-Garrisonville to board her for the past 12 days. Aquia-Garrisonville said our dog needed a flu vaccine and stool sample before being boarded there. So two weeks ago we paid $113.30 for the flu vaccine ($26), stool sample ($34.80) and medical exam ($52.50). After receiving the flu vaccine, Aquia-Garrisonville told us she ALSO needed a booster flu vaccine within a certain time period, which happened to fall inside the boarding period. We were not aware there would be a booster when we agreed to this. While our dog was boarded there, Aquia-Garrisonville charged us another $52.50 for the "medical exam" to administer the $26 booster shot. Total boarding cost for 12 days, including shots and fecal exam: $512.15. I will find another place that is more upfront about their practices. Read Less

Aquia Garrisonville Animal Hospital has provided excellent care for our dogs for more than 20 years!  The Vets , the Techs, the front office staff, the assistants and even the owners/managers work to provide professional, friendly service to our pets and their "parents."  Two of our 3 Shiba Inus lived to be more than 15 years old, and our third is currently working on his 15th year! Two of our Great Danes received expert, thoughtful, dedicated treatment in life threatening situations: one was able to enjoy an extra 18 months of happy, quality life due to successful treatment and the other is happily on the mend from a devastating illness.  We expect to enjoy many more years with her.  We wouldn't think of taking our pets anywhere else.  AGAH has won our trust! The facility is beautiful...that's where the good news ends. When we moved to Stafford we began using this hospital because of it's close location. I've never been overly impressed with this place concerning the vets or the techs, but I assumed we were spoiled by how great our last vets were. My dog was just spayed there and they were supposed to take care of her overnight. As soon as they were done they asked me to come get her because they were worried she was too crazy post operation and they were concerned she would hurt herself. Of course, being worried she was uncontrollably hyper from pain, I said yes and immediately went to get her. Not only was my poor dog not a danger to herself, there was NOTHING crazy or hyper about her behavior since she could BARELY move. I was confused and mad when I saw her and realized they flat out lied to me over the phone. I asked if the spay cost would be cheaper because I didn't board her overnight and they said no because the cost of "the package is the cost of the package." I asked if the cost remained unchanged, what kept them from telling everyone to come get their pets immediately so THEY wouldn't incur the costs of boarding but still account for the costs in their "package" (Sounds like a pattern based on another review). Ripoff. I have 4 small kids and 2 other dogs and had to now perform the job of post surgical care that I paid them to do. Furthermore, they did something to her throat during the surgery (probably breathing tube related) because she is now 2 weeks post op and WAILS every time she swallows. While I completely understand surgical complications occur, it would be nice to have the vet explain to me what the issue could be, give me some suggestions, or peak at her during a quick follow-up. After $400 and not speaking to a vet even ONE time post-op, I was informed that if I had any questions or concerns, I would need to make a separate appointment. I'm done with that place. Horrible post surgical care and total ripoff. Read Less

I've used this vet going on 2 yrs now. I thought they were awesome, so kind and loving.I'm starting to change my mind about them. I just took my dog in for his yearly physical,to get all his shots renewed, a heart worm test,a Lyme disease test, and to get his heart worm, tick, and flea meds. I paid a grand total of 264.00,so I'm a good paying customer that's for sure. The Lyme disease test came back negative. I was offered the Lyme disease vaccination. I wanted it but I simply could not afford it at that time because everything else was so expensive. I talked to my vet and ask her if I could come back in 2 weeks to get the vaccination when I got paid and she said I could. I tried making my appt and they proceeded to tell me my dog needs another physical before they can give him the vaccine, which is 49.00 plus the cost of the vaccination was 28.00 this was plain ridiculous because he just had one 2 weeks earlier. They wanted me to pay for that again, that's crazy! The vet that seen my dog talked to the bosses that are over this clinic and ask them to waiver the physical exam because he already had it done and after two phone calls they came up with that giving my dog that shot would take up time on their schedule and they wouldn't be making any money so they would at least have to charge for a partial physical of 26.00 and the cost of the vaccination 28.00. I still find this ridiculous it's not really about the money, it's about this vet caring more about money than caring for pets and keeping them safe. They sure know how to run off loyal paying customers. Read Less

Before choosing to use this vet, please read this story.  It is bordering on criminal what this vet hospital did, leaving a puppy to starve to death, simply because they were not making money on me.  s an avid animal lover, active in rescue work and showing dogs, I feel that this is story worth sharing. Approximately 4 weeks ago, I recieved a foster dog through the rescue group I volunteer with. Unbeknowst to us, Belle was pregnant. 4 days ago, we were blessed with the birth of 5 puppies. 1 of these puppies was extremely small, just 4oz, in a litter with 7.5oz siblings. He was very small but healthy and unable to complete with his siblings for a place to nurse. The survival of this puppy depended on tube feeding him, every 2 hours around the clock, which I had been doing since the day he was born. He was thriving, gaining weight and doing everything his siblings were doing...until yesterday. Yesterday I left his feeding tube withing reach of his mother, as I attended to his other needs and the milk covered tube seemed like the perfect chew snack for his mother. Without this tube, the puppy, Hamlet, could not eat or survive. I loaded up my kids in the car and went to the Aquia-Garrisonville Animal Hospital, located on Garrisonville Road in Stafford, hoping to purchase another tube to keep Hamlet alive. (My regular vet was already closed for Thanksgiving and would be for at least 2 days). What I got there was something quite different. After explaining my dilemma to the office staff, I was left to stand in the office for about 20 minutes, with 3 seperate people coming and going to try and find out about this tube. They DID have the tubes (8 guage french catheter) however, I was finally told I would not be allowed to purchase one, in order to save this puppy's life. The initial reason I was given was that it was a liability issue, as if they could somehow be held liable, should I make an error and hurt the puppy. Ok, a little crazy but perhaps plausible. I suggested signing a waiver, so they would not be held liable in the event that anything went wrong but that was met with a resounding no. I was then told it wasn't legal for them to sell me the tube. I challenged this as I know that this is simply not true. I was then told that since I had not frequented this hospital for 2 years that this was the reason they would not sell me the tube. Ultimately what it boiled down to was that they wanted to make money off me and weren't, therefore they would endanger the life of an innocent puppy. These tubes are available at any medical supply website and some medical supply stores, but I needed one today, for Hamlet's next meal. Unfortunately for Hamlet, his next meal never came, or the one after that. I tried desperately to bottle feed him but he was simply too small. Hamlet passed away 8hrs after I was denied the tube that would have saved his life. Available for $0.46 per tube on vitalitymedical.com/kend…This puppy died at the hands of a money hungry vet office, that could not have cared less about his fate, and I feel his story should be heard. I have lived here in the area for 15 years now and up until a year ago I used this vet clinic. My complaint is not the price of care, but the lack of proper diagnosis. I took my 9 month old German Shepherd in due to an injury in his left hind quarter. After x-rays I was told he had a significant issue in his leg and he would need surgery or he would be lame, the condition would only get worse if not treated. To make matters worse I was told that when this condition exists on one side it usually is on the other side (leg) also, therefore that leg would probably go bad in a matter of time. So with my x-rays and the information I was given concerning my dogs condition,  I went to see an animal orthopedic specialist in northern Virginia. This is where it gets very interesting. The orthopedic doctor takes a good look at the x-rays, asks me some questions and then examines my dog. What he found was NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY DOGS LEG BASED ON THE X-RAYS! What he did find was my dog had a strained inner leg muscle, something that would easily heal with rest. He found this by manipulating my dogs leg to all different positions, finding no abnormal limitations in movement, plus using his hands to press on his leg, groin and so on until he found the source of my dogs pain/soreness. I am not saying the x-rays were not a good idea to "assist" in making a proper diagnosis, I am saying they were read incorrectly by the AGAH doctor, and this is very important because it resulted in her diagnosing my dog incorrectly and her referring me to a specialist (added expense) only to find out my dog  simply had a strained groin. The specialist stated the my dogs x-rays showed NO SIGN of any injury or defect. Enough said. Read Less

Well, I have gone to this vetinary office before when I lived here.  I thought it was high priced but, it was the only game in town.  So, when I moved back here again I thought I would use them again.  So, I need a blood draw for the dog.  I know what I need, nothing more and nothing less.  They kinda have you on the hook if your animal has seizures as they won't refill your med without the blood.  Well, the bill was shocking...an extra blood draw I didn't ask for and didn't want.  When the doctor mentioned checking the "senior for his kidneys and such at the same time", I didn't think much of it I thought it was all in the same blood panel.  Well, two panels cost over $300 bucks when I only wanted one. I won't be back.  Most vets, that claim to be a hospital will quote you with a paper quote before doing any work especially when it is a shocking substantial amount.  Not this vet office.  If you need something done and you must go here, get a quote on paper of what will get done before you say go ahead because you will not know what you are paying for until you get up front.Oh, by the way....another patron was checking out around the same time....  I don't know what she had done to her animal but, it cost her alot too cause I saw the shock on her face.  Don't get me wrong,  I have paid bigtime for my pet's health, I don't mind paying as long as I know up front what I'm paying for.  Since this hospital doesn't have a protocol for quoting up front, I definately won't be back.  I'm willing to make a drive in search of another place to take my animals. I have taken my dog here a few times, mostly when we first moved to the area and I was trying some places to find "the vet" for my bulldog.  Dr. Guth was awesome, and spent a good deal of time just petting my dog and building some trust with him.  However, the office staff was sometimes rude and/or short with me and other clients, unnecessary vaccinations were really pushed, and they even refused to neuter my dog until he had another vaccination that is neither recommended by other vets I've spoken to nor necessary for indoor dogs.  They quoted me $700+ to neuter my dog, and charged a friend I had referred there over $300 to spay her cat.  The waiting room is usually full, which may be a good sign, but once when I brought in a friend's dog who was very excited by all the other animals there, they gave me disapproving looks until it was time for his appointment. So, while my husband and I were living in Stafford while my husband was stationed at Quantico, I usually just took our pooch to the vet on base.  One morning the poor pooch was oozing something gross from his eye.  Unfortunately, it happened a few days before we were moving out of town and I knew I couldn't get an appointment on base before we left.  I had heard from a few people that they took their pets here, so I called them up, hoping I could get an appointment here in time.  No problem!  They had plenty of openings for that day; I could have gotten in within the hour.  It definitely wasn't for lack of business; when I got there a few other dogs were waiting and people kept coming in to pick up things for their animals.  The vet and staff were super friendly; our vet did a thorough check of pooch's eye to make sure what was wrong and to rule out what it wasn't, which I really appreciated.  She explained everything to me.  I had to wait a little bit for them to get all of his medicine together, but I wasn't in a hurry, so it didn't matter too much to me, because everyone waiting was also really friendly.  I was very pleased with the experience, especially since it was so last minute and I didn't really know what I was getting into.Minus one star, though, because it was pretty expensive.  I guess I am used to what we paid on base, or what we paid when were were in the midwest (where we're from), but I was kinda shocked.  But pooch got better quickly, so I guess it was worth it.

Read Less

Read Less

I have lived in many states and Aquia Garrisonville Animal Hospital is an absolute gem. The staff are consistently caring and friendly and they have provided excellent care for all of my cats. There have been times when emergencies have arisen and they have been helpful, going way above the norm to assist my family and I. I especially have gratitude towards Dr. Kennedy, Trent and the office manager as they are exceptional. I would recommend this practice over anyone hands down. Here they treat your pets as the family members that they are. Read Less

This place has grown too big too fast. They used to be good on customer service, but now that they've expanded, you are just another dollar in their bank account. WAY too expensive. I've been charged $5 for a single painkiller pill. They push unnecessary (and overpriced) vaccinations and medications. Every office visit begins with a 10-15 minute hard sell for pills and shots. Don't want to give you an actual prescription so you can go elsewhere to purchase medicine that isn't wildly overpriced. Money, money, money. Go elsewhere unless you have unlimited funds.Read Less

The facility itself is updated and nice overall. The customer service is maybe average at best and the wait time is horrible. There is no point in setting up an appointment. If you do, expect to sit around for atleast 45 minutes past your scheduled time. Overall animal care is poor, it takes more than 3 visits to "troubleshoot" your animals issue. Highly recommend visiting another business and don't waste time coming here. Read Less

This is my second visit. On both visits, I walked in with no appointment and the veterinarian saw my pets with virtually no wait time. Staff is very friendly and accommodating and display an obvious love of animals. Exam and diagnosis was completed thoroughly and promptly for each visit. The doctor in each case took the time to explain my pets' condition thoroughly, provided a range of treatment options, and made reasonable and prudent recommendations. Cost was shockingly LOW. I recently took my 2.5 year old Rottie in to be neutered. I am more then happy and satisfied with the treatment and professionalism of the staff. I work long hours, and was unable to be home constantly while the pup was convalescing, so I arranged to board him at AGAH. While there my furry kid received the best possible care and treatment. When I picked him up, he was cleaned and groomed, and very well cared for. One staff member in particular I owe a huge thank you too, Miss Erica. I ran in to her after hours, and asked her a few questions. She took the time out of her personal schedule to talk to me, and answer every question I had. Thank you from myself and Harley Boy Jameson to Miss Erica and the Entire Staff if AGAH.
