Before choosing to use this vet, please read this story. It is bordering on criminal what this vet hospital did, leaving a puppy to starve to death, simply because they were not making money on me. s an avid animal lover, active in rescue work and showing dogs, I feel that this is story worth sharing. Approximately 4 weeks ago, I recieved a foster dog through the rescue group I volunteer with. Unbeknowst to us, Belle was pregnant. 4 days ago, we were blessed with the birth of 5 puppies. 1 of these puppies was extremely small, just 4oz, in a litter with 7.5oz siblings. He was very small but healthy and unable to complete with his siblings for a place to nurse. The survival of this puppy depended on tube feeding him, every 2 hours around the clock, which I had been doing since the day he was born. He was thriving, gaining weight and doing everything his siblings were doing...until yesterday. Yesterday I left his feeding tube withing reach of his mother, as I attended to his other needs and the milk covered tube seemed like the perfect chew snack for his mother. Without this tube, the puppy, Hamlet, could not eat or survive. I loaded up my kids in the car and went to the Aquia-Garrisonville Animal Hospital, located on Garrisonville Road in Stafford, hoping to purchase another tube to keep Hamlet alive. (My regular vet was already closed for Thanksgiving and would be for at least 2 days). What I got there was something quite different. After explaining my dilemma to the office staff, I was left to stand in the office for about 20 minutes, with 3 seperate people coming and going to try and find out about this tube. They DID have the tubes (8 guage french catheter) however, I was finally told I would not be allowed to purchase one, in order to save this puppy's life. The initial reason I was given was that it was a liability issue, as if they could somehow be held liable, should I make an error and hurt the puppy. Ok, a little crazy but perhaps plausible. I suggested signing a waiver, so they would not be held liable in the event that anything went wrong but that was met with a resounding no. I was then told it wasn't legal for them to sell me the tube. I challenged this as I know that this is simply not true. I was then told that since I had not frequented this hospital for 2 years that this was the reason they would not sell me the tube. Ultimately what it boiled down to was that they wanted to make money off me and weren't, therefore they would endanger the life of an innocent puppy. These tubes are available at any medical supply website and some medical supply stores, but I needed one today, for Hamlet's next meal. Unfortunately for Hamlet, his next meal never came, or the one after that. I tried desperately to bottle feed him but he was simply too small. Hamlet passed away 8hrs after I was denied the tube that would have saved his life. Available for $0.46 per tube on vitalitymedical.com/kend…This puppy died at the hands of a money hungry vet office, that could not have cared less about his fate, and I feel his story should be heard.
