Have had problems with past vets, but Dr Eastin came to the rescue of our pet cat who is in the first stages of kidney failure and does not tolerate Sub-Qs well. He not only spent an unusually generous amount of time with us, he also did not charge my mother for her cat's check up or the Sub-Q treatment. He was gentle with our cat who was quite nervous. The staff is also friendly and considerate. We will gladly return to this hospital and will request Dr. Eastin as our vet. Read Less

Dr. Eastin has a great way with our dog. He takes his time and explains everything. What he charges is fair m, and indeed seem below average for the area, and most importantly, he makes our pup feel better. Additionally, Dr Sam and the staff are very helpful and caring. Read Less

Dr. Easton was great and very informative. The staff was so friendly both on the phone and in person. I'm glad I found my new vet to take our new puppy. It's convenient too. I like the family-like aspect of a small facility and the costs were very affordable and competitive. I think the prior bad reviews are silly because my experience was great! Read Less

We took our pets to Dr. Eastin for years and never had the kinds of problems I'm seeing posted here. I've worked in the veterinary business myself so I know a bad practice when I see it. The Sterling Park Veterinary clinic is NOT a bad practice. Dr. Eastin is a very knowledgeable vet and handles the animals gently and compassionately - which is half the battle when bringing in a frightened pet. Greg in the front office is friendly and efficient. The assistants who work there obviously love animals - that's why they are in that job.We didn't think the prices were out of line. Remember, a veterinary practice is like any other business and there are a lot of costs associated with running it: the years of education and training before the veterinarian can perform surgeries, salaries, overhead costs, upfront purchases of medications and other supplies, property and other related insurances. The list goes on.Working folks are used to having insurance from their jobs, which brings their out-of-pocket costs down. So when they go to a veterinarian with their pets, they seem to think it should be the same over there (hence the "pricey" and "nickel and dime" remarks). Well, pet insurance has become very common now so if you want to experience lower out-of-pocket pet related costs, I suggest getting a pet insurance plan.All this said, you can be sure that we would still be going there to this day had we not moved to another state. Location is near to me and that's a plus and the staff cares about my dog/cats health and I like the fact that they own Dulles Pet Center too.Those who poopoo about nickel and diming must not understand that medical care is $$$ for four legged mammals just like us two legged kind. I have nothing but good things to say about SPAH. Our 12 year old rescue pup has been seen there his whole life. The vets have never nickle and dimed us at all. In fact, we took our dog in last Friday because he's been having issues walking and his appetite (and weight) have decreased. We saw Dr. Faldzinski and he was wonderful. We weren't rushed and he wasn't pushy at all. He was very matter-of-fact, and told us the unfortunate news that our pup likely has cancer that has metastasized. We discussed quality of life, and asked if he recommended we get the parvo/distemper shots. He did not. He gave us our options and his opinion on what he would do if this was his dog. He gave us pain medication and was very knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. My husband and I were beyond impressed with Dr. Faldzinski.  SPAH's exam fee is less than average, and their prices aren't bad in comparison to other local vets. I don't know why this place has gotten negative reviews. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend SPAH to anyone. (Did not smell like cat urine anywhere there - gross!) Read Less

Office visits are way to much and I didn't feel very welcomed during my visits there. My husband and I had our dogs kenneled a few months back and it was our first time there. They took the dogs into the exam room and looked them over and got photos of them(took a whole 5 mins) and then tried to charge us 60+$ for that when We were told over the phone that there wasn't any hidden fees (we had also given them a copy of their records which showed they had all their up to date shots). Needless to say we refused to pay that fee on top of the pricey payment it cost for them to stay there for 2 days. They should really inform the clients of prices before doing anything to the pets. Dr. Eastin is excellent.  He is thorough and caring with his 'patients.'  The grooming services are also great.  I like having a vet who takes his time and explains everything.  He does the usual care along with dental cleanings.  I highly recommend his professional quality services. Read Less

Dr. Eastin is the best vet I have ever met. I have never had a vet care so deeply about my miniature schnauzer  as an individual. My dog started trowing up and didn't want to eat anything 2 weeks ago. We thought it was just a stomach flue or she ate something bad. The doctor carefully examined her and found my dog had yellow eyes, yellow gum and yellow skin then determined that this might be something related to liver and gallbladder. We were very panic after hearing that. He took the blood work and we got the result within 15 minutes. After a blood work exam and ultrasound, he found out that my dog has pancreatitis and gallbladder Inflammation. My dog was immediately hospitalized with 24 hour intensive care and monitoring.Within a week, my dog was completely recovered and discharged from the hospital He did so well with my dog. We have been taking our cats (4) here for over 4 years.  They have always been kind, competent, and professional.  Recently we had to euthanize one of our cats due to Ideopathic Chylothorax, it was a very difficult decision for us, and the staff were very patient as we discussed all of the options, and openly discussed all of the information we found during our own research.  On the day we took him in for the euthanasia the team there was extremely compassionate.  Not only did they explain each step to us, they allowed us all the time we needed to say our final goodbyes.  Three days later they sent us flowers expressing their condolences.  And then a few days after the flowers we received a card which had been signed by each of the staff who were us that day, with personal notes about our wonderful kitty.  They have a client for as long as we are in the area!! We adopted 2 guinea pigs from Arlington Animal Welfare League and needed to take them to a vet  within 10 days.  They gave me a list of vets who would provide an initial exam and this office was the closest one to my house.  I called and was able to get a convenient appointment on a Saturday.  We had a very short wait, the exam was thorough, the vet talked to my kids about how to properly care for their new pets (and gave them a coloring book), and he didn't recommend anything extra - it was a free exam.  Great experience!! I agree the place is a bit worn down,  however they do feline dental.  My wife had taken one of our cats to several places for estimates for tooth extraction. Maine Coons have terrible teeth problems.  Most places wanted over $3,000.  They were under $900.  The service wasn't spectacular but the cat lived. I like them very much. Read Less

Doctors Eastin and Faldzinski have taken great care of our pets (2 cats and 2 dogs) for years. We always have positive experiences regarding the care our pets received. I'm having trouble believing the negative reviews as my experiences there were to very positive. Options for treatment and associated costs were always explained in detail. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I'm very grateful and highly recommend this veterinary hospital.Read Less

Ugg... I felt like I was being nickeled and dimed from the moment I walked in. I didn't mind that the place hadn't been remodeled in a while, but it was very dirty inside and smelled like cat urine. We have an older dog, and when I thought of ever having to bring her here for surgery or sadly, putting her down someday, I just didn't want it to be here. We had a few lab tests done here, and were told that our only option was to have invasive surgery on our 13 year old dog. We got another opinion quickly. Our new vet gave us options and understood that our dog couldn't handle such a lengthy procedure that Sterling Park animal hospital was pushing on us. The first time we were at the new vet, the front desk lady called Sterling Park animal hospital to ask for records. within minutes of that call, the vet called my cell phone asking why I had gone to a different clinic. Wow, I am shocked by the reviews here. I have been taking my dog here for almost 3 years. All the usual stuff, shots, meds, etc. Never had an issue. Cedar also isn't one for having her nails trimmed, every time I have taken her they do a good job without cutting to close or hurting her in anyway. Maybe my time will come, but so far so good. Sterling Park Animal Hospital staff is a blessing to us and our family. We had a 4 year old beagle diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was told that he would survive only 2 days at the most. We went in for a second opinion at SPAH. Not knowing anyone there or anything about it. Our little guy lived for another 11 months all because of the aid that was given to him here at SPAH. Everyday we would make calls and the doctors and nurses were there to assist. Everyone stayed so patient to help us through it all. Regardless of the need, physical, mental, emotional and even financial, Dr Eastin and Dr Factor made it happen with their team. They treated my little one like their own. I'll always be greatful for this place. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Taking care of animals one has to understand them and the team here does that. They work with their hearts to make them better.Read Less

my roommate took my dog here because he's been lethargic, but otherwise healthy. They tricked her (she's 21 and not always the sharpest knife in the drawer) into giving them the go-ahead to do 4-6 x-rays (for lethargy?!?!?), a blood assay, and a shot. 700$ and the doctor still had no idea why the dog was lethargic! I could have saved the dough, given him some yogurt, and he would be fine...but the vet didn't even think to check with me, the OWNER, before performing all these unnecessary tests for $$$...even though she told him it wasn't her dog. He also didn't tell her what these tests would cost, and as an added bonus, refused to give her a payment plan when this 21 year old girl didn't have 700$ in her pocket!!! Check the reviews of this place EVERYWHERE but here on Insider Pages....ALL 1 star ratings. Unethical. Incompetent. ROBBERY. Go to Pender or Great Falls AH...much better customer service and pricing. We recently had an issue with our cat and Dr. Eastin and his entire staff really did come to our rescue. They were very knowledgeable and compassionate about our situation, and were more than willing to help in any way they could. Also, we have been taking our dog there for years and every time we bring him in, he is treated like a rock star. He likes it better there than at home!Read Less

I have debated on how I wanted to review SPAH.  I have been going to them for about 7 years now.  Here's the problem with most people who go to vets.  They don't know squat about animal health.  They listen to everything the doctor says and accepts it as gospel.  I am not one of those people.  I know animal health quite well (and I don't work any bit close to the health community... so you can learn too if you spend the time) and I call the shots with regards to the treatment of my dogs and that is why I like SPAH.  They respect my opinion and decisions.  Perfect example is that I perform a conservative vaccination schedule on my dogs.  For any of you who do the yearly 5-way or 7-way shots... read up on it.  Search for Dr. Jean Dodd and vaccines.  Not only will you be saving tons of money, you'll have a healthier dog.  Anyway... I have told SPAH how I want to approach this and they understand and accept it.  I administer the Distemper Parvo vaccine series myself.  Once done... I'll check them a few years later with a blood titer, but most often than not, a dog who's gone through a complete puppy series will never need another DPV booster in their life.  Don't let vets tell you otherwise.  All the other vaccines in the cocktail of shots that all vets want to give you like Lepto, Corona, etc are worthless and harmful.  They are also preserved with heavy metals.  Over time, that builds up and is harmful... and don't get me started on the Lyme vaccine... which was originally developed for people, but the side effects were so bad that it was pulled.  Instead.... we not give it to our dogs.  No Thanks!Some Western Medicine vets will not treat your dog unless you follow their vaccination guidelines, which is the biggest sham in the world.  They do this because vaccines are a major source of their income.  Anyway... SPAH will treat my dogs who are on a conservative vaccination schedule.  The only vaccine they do to my dogs is the Rabies one as required by law.I have seen Dr. Eastin for years.  Saw Dr. Cohen before he retired.  They have a new Dr. there by the name of Masters (gotta love that name) who replaced Dr. Factor (who kinda felt like a car salesman to me) and I have to say, I really like Dr. Masters from my initial visit with her.  I think she's a great addition to the clinic and brings a younger/fresher perspective to veterinary medicine.  So with all of this said, I have liked the treatment I have gotten from them over the years and continue to see them for small/routine issues.That said... I see a specialist when specialist type things are needed.  As a breeder, I use a special vet in MD for reproduction services.  For orthopedics, I use a vet in MD who only does veterinary sports medicine.  For dermatological issues, I use a special vet in Springfield, VA.  For holistic treatments, I see a holistic vet in Ashburn, VA.  For emergency issues even during business hours, I see a special clinic that I really like.  That said... I like SPAH as my everyday routine-type clinic.  I think in the beginning SPAH seemed like their feelings were hurt that I see specialists for specialized things, but that's the way I roll and they understand it now.Now... I'm also going to critique a few things.  I agree with some of the earlier posters on price.  They are definitely expensive and will do a lot of tests if you let them.  Example was an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy of one of my girls.  I thought I could save the drive up to MD and just do it with them, but they wanted about $360 for it and it was $120 in MD.  Additionally, I am not a big fan that they charge you a $15 pharmacy fee for getting pills out of a cabinet.  I almost always mail order my prescriptions with a reputable website and that saves a lot of money.  They do always ask for a follow up visit for treating things and if I am able to see if things are wrong with my dog, I can see when things are right, so I rarely do the follow ups unless I feel it is warranted.  These couple things were enough to give them a 4 star instead of 5.Just my 2 Cents.  Take it for what it's worth. I was so pleased that I wanted to share a little about my visit to Sterling Park Animal Hospital: I came home from work to find my dog Mason had vomited at least 5 times and was lying on the ground panting heavily. Of course I freaked out considering he is like my child. I called my regular vet who told me they were "too busy to see me today". I then called Sterling Park Animal Hospital which is farther away from my house then my normal vet. I told them what was going on and they told me to come in right away. I was pleased that they were so understanding and accommodating. When I got there, I waited a few minutes but was taken back to see Dr. Easton almost immediately. After examining my dog they told me that they would need to do xrays because his stomach was painful to the touch. When he showed me the xrays I could see that he clearly had something in his stomach that shouldn't of been there. That night they did surgery and removed my daughters sock and underwear!!! Mason ended up having a intestinal blockage! I am SO thankful that DR. EASTON SAVED MASONS LIFE... I did have a large bill at the end but after reviewing it closely the charges were legitimate, necessary, and not over priced at all. And anyways... the love and bond that Mason and I share is priceless. Needless to say... I have switched all my pets to this practice and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a veterinarian and staff that really cares about there patients and clients!! Read Less

To the previous post, did you let the owner or manager know what you heard the front staff talking about? I have used this hospital for many years and I know that they would not be happy if they knew what was going on with these women.Frankly, I have had none of the problems that you write about. I like the doctors there. The new owner, Dr. Eastin, is different then Dr. Cohen. He is more factual and straight forward when he talks to you. Although Dr. Cohen did sell the practice, he is still there a couple days during the week and you can ask to see him if you want.I like most of the staff that works there. They know my dog and always play with her and love on her when she comes in for an appointment or if she has to stay when I go out of town. She is not nervous when we go in and she wags her tail and is happy to see them which makes me happy. Read Less

I have now changed Vets but after much disgust, money and anger. I have 2 cats that were seen by the doctors there and they did a horrible job. My younger cat was a kitten when I started going and had been declawed (which I now resent, but they convinced me) and she has never been the same since. I never fill these reviews out, but felt strongly that I should this time in order to let the public know how terrible my experience at Sterling Park Vet Hospital was. The office staff is/was unpleasant, unprofessional and incompetent. Where did they find these women? They did not know what they were talking about concerning specialty food, shots, testing, etc. I have dropped my pets off several times to Sterling Park and the front desk girls would be more concerned about discussing how hung over they were or who they hooked up with the prior night. They could not answer my questions clearly and my bill was ridiculous. I constantly argued with them about the charges. The only reason why I stayed was because of on going tests from my older cat. My vet even retired and noone imformed me. I could go on and on but there is no point. I am now a great place where the vet has been calling to check on me daily to see how my older cat is. My new vet called my old vet to get my records (Sterling Park) and could not believe their rudeness and incompetence. They were shocked that a place like Sterling park remains open. It is dirty, smelly and the people are inexerienced. I urge people to not take their precious pets there. Read Less
