I liked bringing my dogs to academy animal care until I had an unpleasant experience with ambrosio and the front staff. I prefer to take my dogs to an honest practice, so I switched. I gave two stars because dr. Adams is great, and dr. Chase seems kind, and professional. Read Less

Very friendly staff, to humans and animals alike. They took very good care of our Great Dane during his neuter and skin tag removal. Prices are comparable to most big city vets. Perhaps a little less, depends on which city. I'd take my Dane back if he needs to be sedated again. Read Less

The staff here is fabulous. We feel like we are a part of a family here. When we come they ask about our other pets that didn't make the visit, how our children are doing, and everyone is so polite. While they aren't the cheapest it is so worth the customer service that is rare to see these days. We have been coming here for years and love to call this our vet. Read Less

Even though they changed ownership a few years ago, the level of care remained constant. We can't say enough about the veterinarians and staff. AAC was recommended to us when we adopted our first fur baby and we have not been disappointed.  The second weekend baby was with us, he became ill.  I had made an appointment for later in the week for his wellness visit, but he needed medical attention on Saturday morning.  I called, they gave me an appointment, we saw Dr. Chase.  Doc C. did an excellent job in making our boy feel better right away.  I was SOLD. Months later baby had an issue with excessive shedding to the degree he had no undercoat.  He saw Dr. Ambrosio, the treatment Dr. A applied corrected the problem.  Our fur baby now has a coat of full wavy fur that shines.  Also, our grand-dog suffered a spinal injury while visiting from Houston I had no problem getting him in to see the doctors.  They did an exceptional job diagnosing and treating the injury.  When I call or visit the office the staff is friendly and welcoming.  I have no problem driving from Smithfield to get this kind of medical treatment for our boy and grand-dog. Academy is so awesome, we drive from south Chesapeake to go here! Dr. Chase performed all the exams and surgery on my older dog. I couldn't have been happier with the amount of time Dr. Chase spent answering all my questions and with the quality of care we received. I first heard about Academy from the dog rescue where I adopted my puppy. They spayed my puppy for several hundred $ off what my vet in Chesapeake charges. Fast forward a year and my older dog needed several large fatty tumors removed and my vet quoted me a high price, so of course I called Academy and once again saved hundreds of $. Dr. Chase went over and beyond what I expected. My dog ended up developing a seroma on his largest 10 inch incision after the drain was removed and Dr. Chase didn't charge me anything at the 2 followup appointments (staple replacement, and laser therapy, and the office visit). Everyone I interacted with was professional and friendly. I will continue to drive to Suffolk for fantastic animal care. Read Less

Academy Animal Care is THE best. I have taken my cats and dogs to Academy Animal Care since it opened its doors many, many years ago. I have dealt with several sets of doctors and staff throughout the years, and every one of them has been exceptional. Dr. Chase is extraordinary. He saw me through a very rough time with my Siberian Husky several years ago; he performed a surgery on her that would have probably cost ten times the money at a specialist. The follow-up by Dr. Chase and staff was outstanding and the surgery was a success in extending her quality of life. The heartfelt compassion they showed me after she died was appreciated more than I can put in words. Currently, Dr. Ambrosio is working with me and my old lady cat, Tigger; Dr. Ambrosio is incredible too. This establishment is amazing. The staff is wonderful and the vets sincerely cares about the well-being of your pet. You will receive a phone call from Dr. Chase himself, check up calls the next day by the nurses, and they are always willing to help in between visits. I have two dogs that I have taken here for vaccinations, check ups, surgeries, and for help with their ongoing battle with allergies. I have never felt like I was being rushed during one of our appointments. I always leave with affordable options, caring suggestions, a list of detail notes and instructions, along with piece of mind. I live and work in downtown Norfolk, but the drive is worth knowing I'm taking my stinky Bulldogs to an establishment where I feel that everyone there cares about my pets well being. I've had the best vet experience both times I brought my dog here. I am astounded that I left smiling because I didn't have to wait AT ALL. I was given a same day appointment. And as soon as I walked in, we were led directly into the diagnostic room where a polite and cheerful Vet Nurse was ALREADY WAITING FOR US! :-DRight after the nurse was done.... the Doctor came RIGHT IN and saw us!She listened to why we were there very patiently and understood everything the FIRST TIME I explained. VERY ATTENTIVE!The Veterinarians didn't over charge me for anything unnecessary, like has been done in the past. I am one happy dog owner! =)And to top off an already wonderful experience!
