I had two unfortunate experiences with Nansemond Vet. My dog gave birth and one of the puppies was gasping for breath. I called Nansemond Vet 10 mins before closing and explained my puppy needed oxygen. The receptionist told me I would need to go see the emergency vet which is 30-40 mins away. I explained there was no time because the puppy was having difficulty breathing and reluctantly they told me to come in. They gave oxygen to the puppy and luckily the puppy survived. They charged me with an additional fee for keeping them 5 minutes past closing. I was dissapointed to see that my trusted vet was unconcerned with my gasping puppy and without me being persistent who knows what may have happened. Same litter and a week later another puppy had partially suffocated in the whelping box. I called the vet for oxygen and was told I needed to come in for an exam. Arriving within 5 mins, Dr. Fleck took the puppy to the exam room and said the puppy was breathing fine and that she would not give oxygen to the puppy as requested. An exam fee was charged and I was sent home. I took my puppy home and she died 10 mins later. I don't understand why something so simply as oxygen could not be given to the puppy at my request especially given the nature for the visit. Needless to say I called to complain and the owner Dr. Cochran called me back and offered me an apology. This does not and will not bring my puppy back and it does not offer me peace of mind knowing we did not give oxygen to the puppy while in their care. I just cannot bring anymore puppies to the practice after that incident and neither of my dogs will be coming here again. The response from the vets at Nansemond vet during my emergencies and lack of responding to my request may have caused this puppy to die before it's time. This is not a chance I am willing to take again.

I had an emergency with one of my dogs, my normal vet was booked with surgeries and they contact NVC to see if they could take my dog, they could. After a scary night at the Cove with no answer to what was wrong and an estimate of a huge bill I was relievedl. Within one x-ray NVC had discovered that he had eaten something that was blocking his lower stomach and intestinal track, and had to have emergency surgery. That afternoon I was able to bring him home to recover. He is doing great, stitches removed and not a huge bill. Their staff from entry to doctor is awesome. I would highly recommend.

I've been taking my pets here since 2004. I've always received friendly, attentive service. My Vet is very knowledgeable, and thorough. She gives you various options to try in non- emergency cases, instead of just trying to take your money. I've boarded my cat, and two dogs, who received great care. The ultimate plus is that it's around the corner from my home too!

I was so happy with the care my pets received at this clinic. Their prices are very reasonable. The receptionists were polite and helpful on the phone wherever I called. Dr. Fleck is amazing. She treats all animals like they are her own. She took the time to help me make sure my cats would be comfortable and stress free when we had to move. I can't say enough wonderful things about this facility and the people that work there.

I have been going to this vet for about 4 months now and I have nothing but nice things to say about the entire staff. Every time I call the receptionists are polite and friendly. The doctors are nice as well and I feel like they really care about my dog. We just had to neuter our dog at the end of March and the vet was really sweet about the whole thing and took great care of him and called me before surgery to answer all of my questions... and there were a lot! Two days after surgery, my dog was not back to normal and I was really worried so the doctor had me bring him back in and then even called me everyday for 4 days to check on him which I thought was really above and beyond. I feel really grateful that I found such a wonderful vet.

Love this place! My two cats had their annual exams yesterday. My Ragdoll is a 20 pound handful!! I asked them to clip his nails. They bought him back in to me with only one paw clipped and said he was getting really stressed out and they didn't want to stress him out more. I love that they stopped clipping when he started stressing!!!This Ragdoll needs a light sedative to get him to relax. Thanks for not stressing him out with more clipping!!!! My other cat had his paws clipped with no problem! He always loves his mani/ Pedi !! :) Wonderful Doctors, technicians and office staff. Thank you!!

Your clinic gave me a free bag of DM diabetic management dry cat food, 6 cans of DM canned cat food, alpha track blood glucose motoring kit, free insulin, complimentary exam and they tested his sugar for free. I've taken all of my pets here for as long as I can remember. Just this past weekend we had to put our wonderful dog, Queenie, to sleep. The staff was so caring and compassionate. I will continue to come here for all my other pets needs. True, they are a tad bit more expensive on some things, but they truly care for the pets they see and take the time to explain what they are doing and why and give you options. You can't put a price tag on that.

I was so pleased, it was a Saturday and my Emotional Support Dog was injuried by what we think was a part of the fence. I am not from the area originally and had a little trouble finding the clinic, but when I did it was amazingly clean, staff was especially friendly, and yes though the office had closed, due to my phone calls, they all waited for my to arrive. The technician, and Vet was on their "A" game, I was so pleased with the carring way the made Shadow so welcome and apart of the family.. I felt the warmth as we sat together on the floor as a team, to meet my four legged family members needs... The condition was not emergant just urgent. the Vet and staff at this clinic can handle any situation, and if they could not they would tell you in a most professional way... I am hooked from visit one.

I took my new puppy here after reading the great reviews on here. I was really not impressed. Despite no one being in there waiting besides me, my appointment was 20 minutes late, and the people at the front, while nice, didn't even acknowledge me because they were bullshitting with another client that gave them a bottle of wine... (WTF?). Got in and had her seen, the vet was nice enough, until I mentioned we planned on crate training the dog. I could tell immediately by the look on her face that she disagreed with crate training and was cold to me after that. I understand there are philosophical differences, but I've been a dog owner my whole life, and that's what we find works best. I mean, even the dog trainer I take her to for puppy kindergarten recommends crate training. I definitely did not come back after that.

Tried this vet out after moving to the Suffolk area from Virginia Beach. Staff was courteous and professional, but I was unpleasantly surprised when I received my bill for just a routine vaccination visit. Prices are significantly higher than any other vet I've been to in the area. Needless to say, I will be making the commute to my original vet in Virginia Beach to avoid Nansemond's high prices.

Clinic is clean, doctors and vet techs are absolutely fantastic. Nice, understanding, give a genuine vibe of caring. Our pets are part of our family and we give them only the best, no matter the cost (which is fair here). We have boarded and been able to check in on them with phone calls. We've experienced the agony of putting one of our dogs down after a lengthy bout with cancer. They were very thorough with the care and compassionate in the end. We received a one year anniversary memorial card which was very nice.The only reservation is the front office and asking around comparing notes we've all come up with there is only 1 out of 4 that is NICE. The others are abrupt and act as though you're bothering them. They will give yes -no answers instead of offering, say, other appt times. If the care wasn't worth it, I'd be put off and in fact a few people I know have gone elsewhere because they figure they represent the care quality.And you have to be dilligent in YOUR record keeping, because they (Front Desk) often have different information between the computer and hard records. My dogs get reminders for shots they've had and I'm told they need something when in fact it's an error on their part. If it were a one time ooops I wouldn't mention, but it's ongoing and I'm not the only one.My favorite doctor is Doc Kessler. He is just so hands on and genuinely concerned while being able to calm you. I feel secure my animal is getting the best. He tells you what he thinks, the possiblities, and options.DVM Jennifer Cochran is very sweet my only problem is you almost have to pull the straight answer out of her. I would like her to bottom line it and give you options more directly. In her effort to be caring she loses directness.

My boyfriend and I adopted a puppy dachshund, Elvis and today was our first veterinary appointment. Being a nervous first-time Mommy Nansemond Vet Clinic wasabsolutely wonderful, to say the least. I am so impressed by how genuine the staff was in their care for the animals they treat and how patient and informative they were to all of my questions. This was our first of many appointments, so we're building our relationship but I'm very happy so far! Chris Raymond was an excellent Assistant and Dr. Jennifer was so sweet and patient....couldn't have asked for a better team! :)

My 11 month old yorkie was attacked by a pit bull in my neighborhood. My regular vet was located in the city of Virginia Beach and I live in Suffolk. I had no time to waste. Luckily for me, there was a veterinary hospital minutes from my home. I ran in carrying my injured baby in my arms. All I could get out was, "can you help me". They immediately responded and not only took care of my yorkie but me as well. Everyone down from the front desk staff to the doctors were very professional and loving individuals. Ironically, I am a ICU nurse and felt powerless to the situation. But thanks to the staff, I was able to make it through the day. They updated me every step of the way and even called me at my home to check on me. My yorkie was later transported to a doggie ICU for more observation and later surgery. Even after he was home, they continued to call just to say that they were thinking of my Skylar, myself, and my husband. That kind of service is priceless. I have since decided that this would be our new veterinary home.
One of my friends later told me this, "the will of God does not take you where the grace of God can not protect you". For whatever reason, that incident was the will of God working in my life. The grace of God allowed such loving and professional people to protect me and my yorkie (Skylar). I will forever be touched my these individuals.
If you are looking for a place that will care for and protect your animal, look no further!!!!!

We are new clients at this vet (Dr. Kessler, specifically), so our relationship is still forming.However, I have been very pleased with the kind & personal service by most of the members of the front desk staff & by all of the vets & techs. We have 3 dogs & 3 cats - half are seniors with varying health issues cropping up. They have not been pushy with extra, unnecessary procedures or treatments.

Your clinic gave me a free bag of DM diabetic management dry cat food, 6 cans of DM canned cat food, alpha track blood glucose motoring kit, free insulin, complimentary exam and they tested his sugar for free. I've taken all of my pets here for as long as I can remember. Just this past weekend we had to put our wonderful dog, Queenie, to sleep. The staff was so caring and compassionate. I will continue to come here for all my other pets needs. True, they are a tad bit more expensive on some things, but they truly care for the pets they see and take the time to explain what they are doing and why and give you options. You can't put a price tag on that.

I was so pleased, it was a Saturday and my Emotional Support Dog was injuried by what we think was a part of the fence. I am not from the area originally and had a little trouble finding the clinic, but when I did it was amazingly clean, staff was especially friendly, and yes though the office had closed, due to my phone calls, they all waited for my to arrive. The technician, and Vet was on their "A" game, I was so pleased with the carring way the made Shadow so welcome and apart of the family.. I felt the warmth as we sat together on the floor as a team, to meet my four legged family members needs... The condition was not emergant just urgent. the Vet and staff at this clinic can handle any situation, and if they could not they would tell you in a most professional way... I am hooked from visit one.

I took my new puppy here after reading the great reviews on here. I was really not impressed. Despite no one being in there waiting besides me, my appointment was 20 minutes late, and the people at the front, while nice, didn't even acknowledge me because they were bullshitting with another client that gave them a bottle of wine... (WTF?). Got in and had her seen, the vet was nice enough, until I mentioned we planned on crate training the dog. I could tell immediately by the look on her face that she disagreed with crate training and was cold to me after that. I understand there are philosophical differences, but I've been a dog owner my whole life, and that's what we find works best. I mean, even the dog trainer I take her to for puppy kindergarten recommends crate training. I definitely did not come back after that.

Tried this vet out after moving to the Suffolk area from Virginia Beach. Staff was courteous and professional, but I was unpleasantly surprised when I received my bill for just a routine vaccination visit. Prices are significantly higher than any other vet I've been to in the area. Needless to say, I will be making the commute to my original vet in Virginia Beach to avoid Nansemond's high prices.

Clinic is clean, doctors and vet techs are absolutely fantastic. Nice, understanding, give a genuine vibe of caring. Our pets are part of our family and we give them only the best, no matter the cost (which is fair here). We have boarded and been able to check in on them with phone calls. We've experienced the agony of putting one of our dogs down after a lengthy bout with cancer. They were very thorough with the care and compassionate in the end. We received a one year anniversary memorial card which was very nice.The only reservation is the front office and asking around comparing notes we've all come up with there is only 1 out of 4 that is NICE. The others are abrupt and act as though you're bothering them. They will give yes -no answers instead of offering, say, other appt times. If the care wasn't worth it, I'd be put off and in fact a few people I know have gone elsewhere because they figure they represent the care quality.And you have to be dilligent in YOUR record keeping, because they (Front Desk) often have different information between the computer and hard records. My dogs get reminders for shots they've had and I'm told they need something when in fact it's an error on their part. If it were a one time ooops I wouldn't mention, but it's ongoing and I'm not the only one.My favorite doctor is Doc Kessler. He is just so hands on and genuinely concerned while being able to calm you. I feel secure my animal is getting the best. He tells you what he thinks, the possiblities, and options.DVM Jennifer Cochran is very sweet my only problem is you almost have to pull the straight answer out of her. I would like her to bottom line it and give you options more directly. In her effort to be caring she loses directness.

My boyfriend and I adopted a puppy dachshund, Elvis and today was our first veterinary appointment. Being a nervous first-time Mommy Nansemond Vet Clinic wasabsolutely wonderful, to say the least. I am so impressed by how genuine the staff was in their care for the animals they treat and how patient and informative they were to all of my questions. This was our first of many appointments, so we're building our relationship but I'm very happy so far! Chris Raymond was an excellent Assistant and Dr. Jennifer was so sweet and patient....couldn't have asked for a better team! :)

My 11 month old yorkie was attacked by a pit bull in my neighborhood. My regular vet was located in the city of Virginia Beach and I live in Suffolk. I had no time to waste. Luckily for me, there was a veterinary hospital minutes from my home. I ran in carrying my injured baby in my arms. All I could get out was, "can you help me". They immediately responded and not only took care of my yorkie but me as well. Everyone down from the front desk staff to the doctors were very professional and loving individuals. Ironically, I am a ICU nurse and felt powerless to the situation. But thanks to the staff, I was able to make it through the day. They updated me every step of the way and even called me at my home to check on me. My yorkie was later transported to a doggie ICU for more observation and later surgery. Even after he was home, they continued to call just to say that they were thinking of my Skylar, myself, and my husband. That kind of service is priceless. I have since decided that this would be our new veterinary home.
One of my friends later told me this, "the will of God does not take you where the grace of God can not protect you". For whatever reason, that incident was the will of God working in my life. The grace of God allowed such loving and professional people to protect me and my yorkie (Skylar). I will forever be touched my these individuals.
If you are looking for a place that will care for and protect your animal, look no further!!!!!

We are new clients at this vet (Dr. Kessler, specifically), so our relationship is still forming.However, I have been very pleased with the kind & personal service by most of the members of the front desk staff & by all of the vets & techs. We have 3 dogs & 3 cats - half are seniors with varying health issues cropping up. They have not been pushy with extra, unnecessary procedures or treatments.
