Finally found a forever home for our pets...such a wonderful, friendly staff ready to love on your animals and have open arms to whatever you need for your furbaby. I have never felt more at ease or welcomed or at home! If I could give 0 stars I would. I had the absolute worst time here. The nurses are great and really know how to treat both the animals and people but  The doctor would not see my dog because he was barking and he got up and walked out of the room and said he doesn't need to deal with him. Thanks for wasting over an hour when I could have taken my sick dog somewhere where people care. Super unprofessional and would not recommend to anyone who wants proper care for their animals. Love this hospital! Wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr. Knopp helped my cat's skin and I didn't have to go to a dermatologist! He also removed a small growth on my other cat's ear without having to sedate her! He is the best veterinarian ever! Amazing service and care ! I moved here from California and my fur baby got out. I was cited for not having a VB license and proof of rabies vax. I called all around Hampton Roads and there was no comparison. Abbey Animal Hospital does everything for you right there at an unbeatable price. They were great with my 92 pound pitty and treated him like their own pet. My appt was at 10 A.M. I got there at 9:40 and was back in my car, tags in hand, and headed home by 10. They took great care of my two boys.  Hermes and Pias were both nervous when we arrived and all of the staff made them feel welcome.  They got lots of attention and snuggles from everyone.  My handsome fellows had to get vaccines and the staff were very gentle with them.  They definitely treated them very well.  They got home and seem to be feeling much better Read Less

I contacted this hospital looking for information on their doggy day care service. After talking to the lady on the phone and briefly describing my dog I felt cut off when she simply said we screen our dogs and if they don’t get along they can’t come (sorry he’s 17 and just wanted some companionship during the day). There were no questions looking for further information or even attempts at accomodations or recommendations just Nope can’t help. I completely understand if your facilities or staff can’t accomodate, but at least try to figure out the whole picture before just just writing people off. We bring our hedgehog here and Dr. Koegel and Dr. Knopp are always knowledgeable and up to date on the latest information for hedgies/exotics. I wouldn’t take our exotic pets anywhere else! The staff was always kind and welcoming when I used to go here. It's been about 7 years now since, I think. It hurts me to write this review because I feel like it was just a mistake and not done with malicious intent but I brought my rabbit in for a simple procedure where they had to remove a needle from her fur. They had done a scan and found that the needle had only pierced her skin and had been completely non-invasive. When they called me to pick up my rabbit after the procedure, they told me that she would be waking up from the anesthesia in the next 20 minutes. I got there and got sent to a room where a nurse walked in and out a few times then sent a vet in that was on the verge of tears. My rabbit was gone. The front desk was also distraught and the compassion shown was evident. The procedure was $300 and, without saying anything, the front desk handed me back $150 as I was leaving. I was in shock from losing my best friend and did not count the money before leaving. I had borrowed the money from my father and he was angry that I had not been refunded fully. I didn't care about the money; i just wanted my friend back. But, every time I tell this story, my friends tell me to make sure to make it public. So that's what I'm doing. This is a good clinic with a caring staff but they are human and can make mistakes. The icing on the cake was when I got a birthday email on my rabbit's birthday a year after from them. Read Less

I used to take my dogs here until we received less than stellar customer service from the front desk administrator after my dog had eaten something that was poisonous and could have killed her within hours. I called them immediately when I realized this and was instructed to come in for a checkup as they had an opening. I ended up sitting there for over 25 minutes as my dog seemed okay but I knew wasn't. So in a panic I left...1 hour later I had a friend suggest giving my dog hydrogen peroxide...my dog ended up throwing up the packet of gum and the wrappers that she had eaten an hour before. And is still alive today...no thanks to abbey animal hospital who just wanted to take my money. And refused to give me any type of advice over the phone. I would expect an emergency to be handled in a timely fashion. I will give two stars because I did like Dr. Knopp who was very nice and a couple of the vet techs were great. This seemed like just a job for the other doctor as she didn't really take interest in my dogs. And had the audacity to suggest training for my dog as she had just walked in and her energy was very cold and uninviting. My dog is a rescue and we are constantly working on her confidence. I would encourage her to get to know her patients and their pets in order to keep them coming through your doors. If we are paying the astronomical price that they charge, they need to step up their customer service game. Needless to say, we will not be using their services ever again. Read Less

Ugh! Another 30+ minute wait to see a vet! If I show up late, or not at all, I get charged. If I show up 15 minutes early & wait an additional 30 minutes to see a vet, I get to see people who came in after me get seen & excuses from the front desk staff.On top of that, I saw 3 different animals defecate/urinate in the waiting room & the response to that was slow. I had a dog that would go completely insane at the vet. I tried several after first visiting Abby thinking perhaps it was them. It was not As a matter of fact Dr Knopp kept my baby going until he was 15 years old. Helped me nurse him through 3 illnesses that I thought were going to do him in. When it was his time to go the staff cried with me. I will take my new pets to them and keep recommending them. As far as complaining about costs my advice is ask questions. Decide what's the most important tests and go from there. Any doctor:/vet is going to recommend everything it's their job and the more test results they have the easier the diagnosis. If your on a budget let it be known it will be a much better outcome and less complaints. Follow their directions and if your pet isn't improving suck it up and go back. Pets are expensive. If I could give this place a NEGATIVE star, I would. My beloved Bearded Dragon, Puff, had what appeared to be an eye problem. I also believe he may have been experiencing his first brumation, he was 2.5 years old. Dr. Robin Knopp kept us in the exam room for 2 hours. First he used a jet spray directly into Puff's eye, it was so painful that he pooped. So Dr. Knopp did a fecal test, to check for parasites. Although it was negative, Dr. Knopp mixed up something to fight parasites, stating is just may have been negative "this time". When he squirted this mixture into Puff's mouth, my baby acted like he was hit with a hammer! Dr. Knopp instructed me to give him this toxic medicine once a day for 3 days. Against my better judgement, I gave Puff the two doses and each time he went berserk! I had already decided not to give him the last dosage, but it was too late. Puff died on Jan. 10, 2017 - two days after going to this man. I called the clinic, I was crying and so very distraught. The girl I spoke with was not compassionate at all. She acted as though I was just taking up her time and just wanted to end the call. Dr. Knopp never called. Read Less

Thank you all so much for being so accommodating for Jake. They were able to get him in the next day for surgery and when he scratched his stitches out they again got us right in the next day to fix his wound and tried anything to prevent him from doing that again. They will be our vet for life. I loved how personal they are and how they knew most of the people who walked through the door. The front desk ladies are so awesome and patient and the doctor knows her stuff and was great. Everyone was so calm, professional, helpful and accommodating. Wonderful experience. They did not seem compassionate or sympathetic to my dog's pain or condition. The vet seemed uninformed about various heartworm treatments on market, and the treatment plan for my dog's injury resulted in us going to an emergency vet clinic later that night. Follow up calls for advice were unsatisfactory and below standard of service of satisfaction. Called and arranged appointment with another vet office. Read Less

Just moved to the area. Brought our cat to Abby for pre-op, to have surgery next week. Waited an hour just to see the Vet Assistant, then another 45 min to see the Vet. Then the fees that I verified changed/increased. Very concerned as to what will happen next week for the surgery. Read Less

I moved here in June and have been taking my dogs to Abbey Animal Hospital. I am beyond impressed with the customer service and the patient/doctor interaction. I am consistently treated with respect and friendliness. Today, I got the honor of meeting Bob the groomer. Again, spectacular service, consideration, friendliness, and respect. We boarded our dogs with abbey animal hospital for a week, with no prior experience with the clinic. When I called in advance to make the reservation, I was given a quote of $8 per day to administer medication to my diabetic dog, and I was told my dogs would be able to board together. First disappointment happened at check in when I was told that "boarded together" meant next to each other in separate kennels, not in fact in the same kennel together. Despite all requests, I was told they were not allowed to be together in case they got aggressive toward each other - despite me stressing several times they were very close and have very rarely been apart, and when they are it's very stressful for them. I also found out that "beds and blankets" provided in the kennels were just a couple of ratty blankets that didn't really add much comfort from the concrete floor. We signed up for daily text messages, but the entire week only received 2, and that was after I called for an update on day 5 and said I had only received 1 update at that point. Halfway through the stay I got a call saying that the $8/day for medication quote I was given ahead of time and was charged for at check in was wrong, and it was supposed to be $3.75/medicine/application, and that I would be charged and additional $160 before I could take my dogs home! (Diabetic dog on 8 medicines 2x daily, 4 of which were eye drops for cataracts). My dogs both developed diarrhea while boarding (made worse by being alone and my diabetic eyes went from partial vision to completely blind while boarded) defecated in the kennel and apparently got dirty as a result and I was charged $50 (in addition to the ADDITIONAL $160!!!) for baths for 2 small dogs. The lack of communication between their own staff on pricing and with me was bad enough, but being expected to pay over $200 at check in when I had already prepaid nearly $500 for a week long stay was absolutely unacceptable. I will NOT be bringing my dogs back to this hospital for any reason, but most especially never to board there again. I will also do everything I can to share my experience with them anywhere I can find to write a review, and will discourage anyone I know personally from using them. I took my one year old dog here today for a check up and shots and I think I can safely say I will never take my pets anywhere else. The staff was courteous and very knowledgeable. My husband is deployed so I had our two littles ones with me at the time. Taking your dog to the Vet is usually a stressful situation in itself, but with two little boys in tote, it gets a bit crazy. The staff was exceptional, polite, patient with me. I think this was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a Vets office. I also love the extended hours. I work and go to school so having later hours is so beneficial for our family. I will be recommending this office to all my family and friends. Read Less

I went in to get both my dogs check ups. I left paying over $1000! Then two days later I find out they do military discount. So I ask if I can have a credit for the amount of the discount. I brought my dog here to get an eye infection checked out and was super pleased with the service I got here. Checking in was easy and quick. The vet tech who first saw my dog was so nice and gentle with my dog, who isn't great with strangers or people he doesn't know that well, but my dog was great with him! The actual vet who came in was friendly and the two of them seemed to know exactly how to handle the issue. The vet went above and beyond to see that the issue wasn't a serious one and I was relieved to find out it was just an allergy. I really liked that I was allowed to come back with my dog and comfort and pet him while they did their work. Some other places don't allow that but it was nice to be with my dog who really likes me being around. After I was done, I was allowed to have a free check up and was notified of the shots he needed. I would have given this place 5 stars but it was a little unprofessional that you could hear other staff gossiping and using bad language while I was waiting for the tech. Not that I'm sensitive to people cursing, I would just do it where customers can't really hear you.This wasn't my first visit, and I'm glad that both of my dogs are seen here for whatever they need. Wow! I really liked this place until today! I'm an Operations Manager of a local hotel so I understand the importance of great customer service. Today when I went to pick up my handsome man from being groomed I experienced some very unprofessional behavior. The front desk attendant needs to understand that they aren't there to make any pet parent feel bad or make them feel as if they aren't doing enough to make sure that their pet is getting the best care they can afford for them at the time. All customers that chose to use Abbey Animal Hospital DO NOT have a lot of money to spend on their pet but the fact that they are in your facility shows that the owner does give a damn about the well being of their dog. Moral of the story "be mindful of how you speak with your customers that have a big wallet or small". Never make the pet parent feel bad about the care they are able to provide for their pets. My babies had fleas he's a FREAKING DOG he is suppose to have fleas I don't need to keep hearing an agent reiterate that I just paid $252 in the last two day just the damn problem! I was nice but I won't return I've researched other Animal Hospitals in the area with more competitive prices. Read Less

Abbey Hospital has been around for years!! When Cooper came to live with us 6 months ago, I knew right away I wanted him to be taken care of by Abbey. So far I think I've made the right decision. They are always so great, so helpful, and so cheerful when we come in. Sometimes the stress of having an insecure dog can be harrowing in a waiting room but luckily here, waiting time is never too long. They are quick to check him in, see him, and check us out. When I have Q's they provide answers efficiently. They provide an online service with a newsletter as well to keep you up to date on what's going on at Abbey Hospital and Doggy Daycare. I like that a lot. I have yet to use them for the daycare or grooming services but I def have them in mind. Read Less

While it took a month or two to work out kinks on my accounts to pay for our dogs unexpected emergency surgery,  (which are now current and up to date and have been for more than a year and is CERTAINLY NOT the publics business!!) the owners of this business took to my businesses yelp page to publicly post private personal (and FALSE) information.  It's a real unfortunate shame that in hopes to collect a dollar they wasted no time to try and corrupt a clients business.  We considered ourselves so blessed to have had them in fact save our dog, and we are so very disappointed that they resorted to collection efforts In such an UNHEARD of way. Staff is VERY rude and pushy! Every time I went in there they tried to tell me that I was not doing the "best" for my pet and tried to push all these extra medications and services. My animals goes to the vet 2 times a year and is on heartworm, flea and tick preventative, along with getting his teeth cleaned. Please stop trying to push your over priced products and services! They also have a VERY HIGH staff turn over rate there and most of them have no idea what they are talking about. Overall this was one of the WORST vet hospitals I have EVER been to! Please go to Acerdale or Bay Beach if you go their for convenience they are in the same area and have much better staff and services! Read Less

My experience here was horrible, from beginning to end. I brought my dog in because he had thrown up a few times within a few days. They wanted to run every test under the sun and gave me an estimate of about $500. When I told them I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend that right now, the vet made me feel like crap and told me if the money wasn't in my budget, I shouldn't have a dog. At that point, I wanted to switch vets. A few weeks later, I wanted to order my dog some heartworm medication from an online pharmacy. Unfortunately, this vet is where I had the heartworm test done so I needed them to give the online company the prescription. They told me they won't work with online pharmacies. So, I had to go pick up a written prescription that I would be charged $10 for so I could mail it to the online pharmacy.  Well, when I went to try to get a written prescription, I was told they wouldn't give it to me because I had given them a negative review on Facebook. Way to show my dog's well being is of no importance. Also, they obviously try to retaliate against negative reviews so I would take any lack of negative reviews with a grain of salt. Read Less

The staff there are all very nice, however the care your pet will receive at best, is average.  Felt strung along whenever my dog was sick, having to keep bringing my dog in for additional exams to actual receive a diagnosis and any care.  Only ever spoke with vet techs, not the vet themselves when picking up my dog after a procedure, which always bothered me.  They are not the best at communicating instructions for post visit pet care.  Very affordable doggie day care, but after two incidents of our dog ingesting pieces of a toy, with the 2nd the staff not taking responsibility for, we're done.  They also charge about x2 as much for prescription medicines and special food than other retail sources or online.  Use them for grooming only. Overall been coming here for years it's decent lot of times the ad on stuff figured pet needs it and it doesn't of course that goes with all businesses well you know doctors office is that not a fan of particularly the heart worm guard flea med. I've had two dogs die in a two year period by taking the flea and heartworm medication I asked the vet about this and he didn't really give me an answer he said millions and millions of pets take this every year well my dog is never had heart problems or heart failure I started putting them on when they were three years old and all of a sudden the year later they started developing these problem next thing I know I have to buy all these expensive medicines to keep their heart problem in check and prevent heart failure I asked him again about it but the vet was no help he just kept looking up at the ceiling saying it's safe very small problems nothing that I know of very thing answer so I would say no to the pet and heartworm medications if you're smart don't believe the vets for a hundred fifty bucks a year most people would lie to you especially a business and you wouldn't even know it. A few times when my dog had an ear infection the vet kept calling me in for like 4 different appointments over a period of a month and wanted to see more I read the bottle and it said it takes 30 days for it to start affecting the ear infection so why did they want to see me to make more money off of the visit . Well I told her no on the next visit and I waited a few months and made an appointment for the rabies shot all of a sudden my dog's problem is gone imagine that, But they also want a photo copy of your ID the ysay its for you'er safety but No Its so they can sue you if they charge you to much if the ygive you an estimate that would be the only reason they would need it I would imagie they had that problem I guess  Over all they CARE about the pets they care for but like any company the need to make profit. Love our new vet! We recently added a new puppy to our family and wanted a local vet for his care. We had been using banfield for our vet but recently have not been too happy with their service. ( seemed like get them in and out) . Abbey is great! Shawn is our vet tech and is very nice and caring. He explains everything and offers many options. The doc is great too! They really care about animals and our needs and concerns. We have been twice ( puppy shots) and will be switching the cats care to them too. The offer grooming and puppy day care too. Read Less

I have been so pleased with ALL the service and care here, we got a new dog, his first visit was amazing, only had to wait 5 or 6 min to see the vet, they didn't try to sell me hundreds of dollars in extras, and they have a groomer (shes amazing) on site., and an avian vet to boot. The staff are wonderful, help full, and as most of the vets in the area, they do not try to guilt you into pricey packages, flea treatment and useless pills and ointments.
