I've been taking my 3 beagles and 1 cat to Bostic Veterinary Hospital for years now. The doctors and staff have always been top notch. Yes, going to the vet is expensive, I never get out for under a hundred dollars, but owning pets is an expensive endeavor - it's something that comes with the commitment. What I love about the Bostic staff is that they give me options - different types of treatment for different prices. They understand that these services are expensive, so they will always tell me the cost of a shot or medicine before I make a decision. The doctors are knowledgeable, Dr. Manning is terrific, and you know he loves animals. Dr. Anthony Manning has been my dog's vet for around 5 years now and I have to say that I couldn't ask for a better more professional Veterinary doctor. Every time that I have to take my dog in, he is so thorough and checks her from paws to eyes just to make sure she is up on overall health and physical appearance. I have taken my precious dogs to Bostic Veterinary Hospital since the 1980s. Each time, for each dog, they have been correctly diagnosed and treated with loving, compassionate care. Three dogs had to be let go because of severe mobility problems—thankfully there were 15 to 17 years old—but still heartbreaking. With each one, Dr Gail Szabo was caring, compassionate cared about my grief. I have also seen Dr Manning who has also exhibited the same care and expertise. I never felt pressured to buy anything. The staff has always been competent and professional, from the groomers to reception to vet techs. I want to thank and compliment the whole staff.I was a little taken back by some of the reviews since some seemed to expect gushes of welcome and hugs and kisses.This is a professional group who gives great care to your furry babies. I have used Bostic vet in the past for shots and checks ups. Thought they were pricey but I wanted a good vet. Only complaint during that time is I always had to wait up to 30 mins past appt. My Aussie gave birth to 5 puppies. We took her in she had a check up and xrays before pups. Then they said bring her and puppies in within 2 days of birth. We did Vet said everyone looks great. Next day I thought the runt did not look so f=good and called to bring him in and the next smallest one. They said just bring the pups. Got them there did the normal wait. I asked them to put them under a heat lamp. Vet came in checked them said yes they look very small, and the temps are very low. Well temps was fine before I left house. She said normally we would keep them warm them up and give them glucose but we close at 5. So you will need to get the temps back up and tube them. I would tube them with glucose but we close at 5. She did show me how to tube them. (I have never raised pups EVER) but could not even tell me how much sugar to put in the water, Said if I had any more problems take them to the emergency vet because "we close at 5" Left there a mess. Got them home under the heat lamp and tubed them both. Within 3 mins of tubing they both went into violent convulsions and died. This was very traumatic for me. I called and they said well they were not doing well. Very disappointed that she did not even take time to tube them and give them fluids there. The temps may not have dropped so low if I had the mother. And I just felt they really could care less. I will move all my dogs from Bostic. Knowing I had never raised pups I would have thought there would be more support. I just keep hearing , well we close at 5. Read Less

Liked this place initially. Costs were similar to previous vet before move, thought it was normal. On two occasions, one for poison ivy and another for kennel cough, they couldn't see me for several days so I decided to care for them with home remedies since their concern wasn't as high as mine. The pushing of the products gets annoying after a few visits. What got me finally was that these cards for free pet exam per household they gave every visit(each over $150) were voided because I had used a Certificate through AKC for a free exam when registering my pups. Was told I don't qualify for they card promotions and that they supposedly didn't claim my certificates, which for a money hungry clinic I highly doubt. Still denied the use of any of the free exam cards even after the purchase of a third puppy, another patient for them! Because I'm a single client...smh. Found a much cheaper and way friendlier staff close by. Much happier and extra money to spoil them with! Read Less

I have been bringing my dog and cat here for 7. Yrs. I honestly LOVE everyone that works there! I feel like family when I walk in the door. Not only do they know my pets names but they know my name as well. I never feel ripped off and I only am advised if something needs OR doesn't need to be done. For me this is a family vet hospital and I know they do everything they can to make sure our pets are safe and comfortable as well as us pet owners. These people are a joke, LolThey reel you in with this free visit coupon for new patients but when you go behind closed doors they tell you "THEY "want to do an X-ray and then try to charge you for their suggestions, then if you pet needs medicine they won't give it to you because they tried to get X-ray money out of you lol i made it very clear to that fake dr that I wasn't paying for X-rays Save yourself and take your animals to a real vet not a house/vet I even called them to have the prescription filled at Walgreens and they continuously denied my 12yr old sickly dog his meds I wish I could give this 1/2 a star because they don't even deserve a full star Read Less

I enjoyed the first time about a year ago where Dr. Manning took the time to talk to me about my concerns with my newly adopted dog. We've been in a couple of times recently with our dog still trying to get her allergies under control. They're a very nice practice and they listen as well as address all of your concerns. They talk to you about every option open to you, give their suggestions as well as pricing, and in the end you're aloud to make a decision that you feel most comfortable with. I just a new puppy and wanted him checked out immediately. My friend had just had her first visit and loved the Vet Doc, so I thought I would give her a try. I am so glad I did! They don't treat you nicer or better after going there for years. It's been same always. I guess that could be the culture thing. In Korea, everyone will call my name and my dogs names when I visit and they'll really worry if my dog is sick or in pain, you know..I never felt any of it with Bostic. I wish I can find a kind, friendly, good, and gives reasonable price animal hospital for my dogs. They aren't horrible compare to other animal hospitals around this area BUT I'm not satisfied or happy. There's a really kind, and nice assistant you'll see when you see the doctor (She holds your dog while the doctor checks the dogs). She's the only person who seems loves animals and she's very sweet. I am very impressed with Bostic Veterinary Hospital. I went there first thing one morning because my beloved two year old cat, Pumbaa, was exhibiting signs of urinary blockage. I was a mess emotionally, because this is viewed as an emergency condition. As soon as I got there, he was taken and assessed. The staff was not only professional, but quite friendly! Thankfully his diagnosis was not a blockage but I was given ample information, medication and instructions upon discharge. One of the main things I love about Bostic is that they do not have cats and dogs in the same room. They have a dedicated cat room that is quiet and less stressful for our feline babies Their exam fee is less I found, than others as well, after making calls to other local vets. I used to take my pets here all the time and then I moved out of state. I am in town visiting and went there this morning with an orphaned litter of kittens I took in. The parking lot was completely empty except for staff cars yet I was told there was no availability and that the only way I could be seen was if I paid their emergency rates starting with an $88 office visit. needless to say I will never return to bostic. DENTAL: One our pets had suffered some severe dental issues. The clinic handled him with love, and professionalism. His bad breath gone, teeth look amazing (3 teeth had to be removed) and the care received even after his surgery was amazing! My cat is back to his lovely ways, and We're soo thankful to Bostic for all their help! GROOMING: The front desk, and the groomer are absolutely amazing! Our two cats came back to us in good health, and properly groomed, I am amazed at how great they look, and how calm they were when we got them! I will not return to Bostic anymore their main objective is profit. They are unfriendly, money hungry, and lack customer service and sympathy for pet owners dealing with unforeseen circumstances. Medical pet health is unexpected, expensive, and very stressful. When my pet was dealing with a medical issue I contacted Bostic, and asked them how much three specific blood test would cost me? (very simple question to answer) They treated my pet several times before so she placed me on hold, looked me up in their system, and came back and advised me they don't quote prices over the phone, and I would have to come in and let the vet see him. That statement is a wicked lie, disgusting, and greedy. Obviously I am concerned about the price because I love my pet dearly and may not be able to afford the fee. I don't want to be shocked, humiliated, and caught in a dilemma that will cause further agony to myself and pet. Therefore, as their CLIENT and CUSTOMER seeking assistance for my beloved animal they failed to provide professional care, and assistance in a time of need. So many pets get neglected and mistreat because their owner can't afford health care for them. I want to take action and provide medical attention for my pet the best way I can. My simple question I asked Bostic is so I can be prepared to adjust my allotted budget. I must be alive and healthy to be able to care for my pet. Therefore, I need to ask those questions in advance. It makes no sense for me to drive into Bostic, waste gas, time, and money letting the vet see my pet if I can't afford to pay them. They didn't even ask me any questions of how my pet was doing or questions related to my pet. Real, loving, honest caring vets ask questions and try to help the best way they can. It's so morally wrong and shameful of Bostic to deliberately seek a way to gain coins over my misfortune. What makes Bostic look even more pathetic is after they told me that unreasonable lie to just get me into them, I later contacted another veterinary clinic. My neighbor referred me to call her vet clinic because she admires the staff caring attitude. Keep in mind I never been seen there before, this clinic asked me questions about my pet and kindly informed me the cost of each 3 test and provided wonderful details. That type of service is commendable, it gave me relief, and a better outlook of what I was facing. Now it's clear why Bostic spend money and resources on marketing themselves. Constantly advertising their clinic and sending out coupons and discounts to new customers only is a must. With that type of poor customer service and careless conduct towards animals and humans they will always need to provide incentives and promotions to get unaware new clients to replace the ones who will never return. We have been using Bostic for over 20 years and would not think of going anywhere else. They have been there for us with many of our dogs, rescues and fosters!!! I just moved to Virginia Beach in September of 2015 and started working at Bostic Veterinary Hospital as a veterinary assistant. I have to say you will not find a group of more caring and wonderful people. It was hard moving to a new area and starting over but everyone here made me feel right at home. Both Dr. Manning and Dr. Szabo truly care about every animal and owner that walk though the door. They won't try and "sell" you something if it's not vital for your pet. Both doctors are wonderful about giving you all the options and helping you decide what is the best option to treat your pet. They give estimates and are very honest and up front about everything. Being a pet owner and completely loving my animals I wanted to make sure I was choosing the right place to have my pets cared for. In my mind that didn't mean I needed to take my pets to be cared for at the place I work, but after being there for only a few weeks I knew that if and when I needed to have my pets see a vet I would most certainly bring them to see Dr. Manning or Dr. Szabo. About two months ago I had a choking scare that led to seizures with my Pomeranian late at night and had to take him to the emergency hospital. The next day I was still a wreck after being up the whole night with my dog. I took him to work with me in the morning and Dr. Manning looked him over and we observed him for the whole day. I felt better just knowing someone who truly cared was there to help me and my dog. Even if I hadn't been an employee they still would have gone out of their way to have my dog seen, I have seen examples of it on many occasions in the few months I have been working here. I am truly lucky to have found Bostic Veterinary Hospital. Also as a side note for anyone reading this, no one at Bostic Veterinary Hospital asked me to write this review and I hope they don't mind that I wrote this, but I just felt like I honestly wanted everyone to know what a wonderful place Bostic vet is, not just to work but as a Veterinary Hospital in itself. Dr. Szabo has been my family's vet since 2001 when we had our first two Golden Retrievers. She was always there to help direct us through the wellness process, preparing us for the breeding process, OFA certification, the good days and the scary days you experience during the years. Her entire office staff is well trained, very compassionate and knows how to put your pet at ease. Dr. Szabo over the many years has become a friend and was there at the end for both of my Goldens to help make their passing just a bit easier. I now have another young Golden and she has been proactive in his care and necessary referral to a specialist. As a pet owner it is impossible to explain how good it feels to have complete confidence in your vet!In addition Bostic Veterinary was my parents vet since the 60's for my horses, my ducks, cats and dogs. I took my dog Billy to Bostic two days after I rescued him.  He was in good health.  Two weeks ago my dog had the worst allergies.  In the end he stopped eating.  I took to Bostic and Dr. Manning first was so nice and second  treated him perfectly.  He gave him a steroid shot, antibiotics and told me to change his allergy meds.  The very next morning I woke up with him scratching my arm, smiling and wagging his tail.  Their prices are excellent.   I will NEVER go anywhere else! Bostic Vet is fully responsible for saving my cat Coach's life. He was only given about a 26% chance of living and his health was declining rapidly. He was diagnosed with cholangiohepatitis and then he turned jaundice from his liver shutting down. I was at the point where I was saying goodbye to him and looking up cremation services when I was referred to Bostic Vet for a 2nd opinion. My first vet only gave me facts, a few meds but did nothing to help save my cat. They also drained my bank account. Dr. Manning at Bostic told me step by step on how to save my cat's life, gave me additional meds, the supplies to help force feed him, and knowledge from a previous experience with this horrible disease. He was losing almost a pound a week until our visit at Bostic, down to 9.2 pounds. He has since gained 1.5 pounds in just a few short weeks and the jaundice has gone away. He is eating and drinking on his own and I am very certain that if it wasn't for Bostic Vet I would be mourning my cat's life right now versus celebrating his survival. We took our Cairn to have his teeth cleaned and when we got him back he was limping. The teeth cleaning set us back $400. Today we were told he has a torn or partially torn ACL and that is what is causing the limp. They suggest surgery which will set us back 1500 dollars and today's visit set us back 280 dollars. When reminded he wasn't limping when he arrived for the teeth cleaning we got no response. Our poor little guy is going through massive amounts of trauma as a result of an injury he didn't have before he got his teeth cleaned. What happened to him? We may never know but I'll tell you this much I will NEVER trust these people with any of my pets again! I have only put down poor because you can't give negative stars! Read Less

Lack of professionalism and nickle and dime you to death.I took my newly adopted dog here to treat an ear infection and catch him up on vaccinations to get him into obedience school. The first visit was almost $300 and we were instructed to return 30 days later. Upon arrival, the Doc said that the ear infection was not cured and we had to treat the ear with a different antibiotic (which is understandable that all antibiotics don't work all the time), this visit cost us $150. They again instructed us to return in 2 weeks and gave us 2 cards good for free exams. 2 weeks later we returned and were denied usage of the free exam cards. One of the vaccinations that were on the list also were not administered to my animal. Upon contacting the practice manager, she was more interested in telling me how I was at fault in the matter and how I was wrong, rather than listen to my concerns as a customer and how I feel like I had been neglected and taken advantage of.There are several other Vets in very close proximity to this Vet. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE, THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. Read Less

This office has been my vet for the past 8 years and they have served the needs of my pets very well. They love each animal that comes through the doors as if they were their own. Dr Szabo and Dr Manning are absolutely awesome and their staff (Connie, Dawn, Stacy & the rest of techs) are incredibly friendly, knowledgable and caring. My new cat needed his routine shots and I saw a coupon in the paper, so I made an appointment at the nearby Bostic Veterinary Hospital. Although there were no other animals/people in the waiting room we were kept waiting 30 minutes past our appointment time until we were called back! The office door was open and there were food wrappers on the desk; it appeared everyone was eating lunch while my time was wasted and more importantly my cat was meowing and whining in distress (he was really scared to be in the carrier and in the office).Worse, when she was trying to administer the shot she was using a towel to cover him. He was scared and squirmed and she somehow managed to smash his leg into the table and then drop him off the table! She also charged us double for the shot that she wasted when she did that!The vet also tried to convince me my cat was in DIRE need of having his teeth cleaned to the cost of a couple hundred dollars. When I took him to another nearby vet for his follow up shots (which went smoothly, 100% recommend THAT vet!) she said his teeth were absolutely fine. We were traveling thru the area and one of our bulldogs did something to one of her rear legs.  The bulldog vet website recommended Dr Bostic so we gave her a call.  She immediately gave us an appointment and made us feel very comfortable.Dr Bostic and here entire staff treated us very well and gave great service to our girl.  If we are ever back in the area, we'd definitely come back here.
