We just arrived from San Diego with our 2 labradors and found this clinic right down the street from our house. We couldn't be happier! A friend recommended the Independence vet clinic last year because I have a grumpy cat who hates being poked or held. The vet and technician were completely gentle with her and she didn’t try to bite or scratch anyone once! Thanks for a stress free visit! I started taking my cat here about a year ago, and I’m so pleased. I never have had to wait very long, and Dr Johnston is very attentive and friendly. He personally called me when I had a question about some eye drops, and about a week later, a staff member called to check in! I’ve been to several vets over the years and IVH is by far my favorite! My cat is a cat. She's a jerk and very vocal when she is unhappy, but when push comes to shove she is more likely to run away than actually hurt someone (someone who isn't me anyways). My primary vet at a different clinic has basically said they won't see her anymore due to she doesn't trust them and they are afraid of her (she has not scratched or bitten anyone at her previous vet). Dr. Johnson (think that was his name) took her back did her exam and took care of her anal gl...and expression as needed. He was calm and understanding of her being a CAT and being vocal. His first reaction was not to gas her or stick her in a plastic containment box to work on her. He maneuvered her in her kennel so not to over stress and spoke calmly to her and didn't back down when she got vocal. This understanding and professionalism is what I expect from ALL veterinarians. He is the gold standard and definitely shows the quality of this clinic to have this quality of veterinarian on staff. See More Read Less

Excellent total care. Our two pibbles are in good care here. From routine shots and wellness checks to heart worm treatment for one pup, we have always had a positive experience here. Emergencies and day to day care are both handled with courtesy. Love this place for sure! Read Less

Always ready to help and care for my fur babies. We used to come here before we moved for 3 years. When we returned I came back with a new addition and have not been disappointed. Vet, who was not my usual Dr. Hastings, did sort of a very quick whirlwind exam on my cat and finished it off by using a ballpoint pen to "examine" my cats teeth and my cat, understandably so, went ballistic. It was so strange and very unprofessional and I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I have worked with numerous vets and no one does that. If I hadn't been there to see it, I would never have believed a vet would do that. Prices are high and service quality has dropped since I started going there four years ago; it is no longer worth it. My recent visit ensures I will be looking for another vet hospital come next check up; I don't need my cat being more stressed out than usual for a vet check up!!! Read Less

I have only been to Independence Veterinary once, but they were very friendly and professional. I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly, and they were very kind and considerate with my cat. They are also reasonable as far as the fees for their services. I am definitely going to be taking my cat back to them again. Read Less

Dr Hastings, Kim Hastings, Dustin Hastings and the whole ENTIRE staff are the BEST!!! Been going to him from day one. Even my dog Milo enjoys going, they treat him like a king. They really are the most kind hearted and compassionate people I have ever met in this field. They authentically care about you and your pets, and this is quite obvious when an animal has to be put down. Which is never easy, but when you see tears in the docs eyes or the staff, that is real emotion...from the heart. Love em all as does Milo.......... !! Thank you all for always taking such great care of all my pets. Independence Vet Hosp is Wonderful . Kind staff and fantastic Drs. We had to take " Dexter " , my daughters dog to the vets. Dexter is a rescue and not as socialized as we would like . He had a rough start in life . The staff was so gentle and compassionate to him . Dexter does require a muzzle in settings like that and the Staff was prepared. I highly recommend them for any pet you may have , especially animals with special needs and attention. Read Less

We just moved here and was in need of a vet and after much research decided upon Independence Vet. Hospital! I went there this morning for an annual shot appt and was greeted with friendly staff! I went back with the techs and they were friendly as well as the Dr. I do have to come back with my two Yorkies to have the rest of their shots given to them because they are small and the vet didn't want to give them everything in one day. This seemed very strange because I have never had to do this before ever (they are 11 & 10) so at the front desk I asked the lady checking me out if I would have to pay for a "wellness visit" again I was told no just the shots, so I am hoping that this holds true because like I said I have never had an issue nor had to bring my dogs in twice, this is their policy I guess and I'll go with it but hoping I don't have to pay another $102 just to walk in the door for shots! I will see how it goes and adjust my review based on that! Other than that weirdness they were great and friendly with my girls!!Read Less

The compassion and care that the doctors and the staff give is truly from their hearts. They know that our little furry friends are not just animals they are a part of our family. I recently had to make the hardest decision after having my "Lil'Bit" 15 1/2 years, to let her go, their kindness made it just a little easier to get through. They take good care of my corgi babies Penny and Uno. When I have a question they get back to me asap. They even know how to deal with Unos death rolls when it comes to his nails. I have been taking my dog here for 18 months and am very happy.  The staff is friendly and very good with my dog.  All the veterinarians are good with my dog and take time to explain things.  I've had to call a couple times for same day appointments, and they were able to get me in.  After my dogs neutering and when he was sick the vet called to see how my dog was recovering.  Good service and bed side manner. I have been going to this vet for 10 years. I have 4 dogs and occasionally foster 1 and 2 cats. I adore the comfortable warm setting and care they have for my animals. Not only do they remember them but they also respond to pet parent emergencies like they are their own. They have new vet assistants come and go and most are amazing. But the core people like Patti and Dustin really go the extra mile for your pets wellbeing. Kim and the Drs are so smart and helpful. They are very honest about treatments and routes to take. I have been going to these guys for 10 years. They make you and your pets feel like family. I have 4 dogs and occasionally foster 1 and 2 cats. They genuinely care about the wellbeing of your pets. They once let me keep one of their Three rooms busy for like half the business day because my cocker spaniel Roxie was having puppies and I was terrified. And no they didn't charge me extra. Whenever I have pet parent emergencies they fit me in asap and help fix whatever is wrong as best they can. Patti and Dustin are the most amazing people when they handle and care for your pets. Wow! These people are awesome! I took both my dogs in for their updated vaccinations and was greeted pleasantly from the front staff to the technicians to the dr. (the doctor is the quite the comedian - you can tell he loves the pets and his job!) My dog even got a little overly excited over the attention and tinkled a bit on the tech but they acted like it was no big deal even though I'm sure they must keep a closet full of spare scrubs! The first and only time I took my dog here I think he saw a Dr. Johnson(?). Older guy with salt and pepper hair and glasses, fairly tall. Anyway, I brought my sweet, little nervous, 12 lb, non-aggressive chihuahua for a routine exam and shots. This guy used excessive force restraining my poor dog, grabbing the scruff on the back of his neck so tightly he was wrapping it around his fist and my dog was completely immobilized being held by the throat. I was worried as I looked on but thinking the guy knew what he was doing. I saw my dogs eyes begin to turn red and when he finally released him from the death grip my dog started coughing, as one would after having their windpipe cut off with force. I asked if my dog was okay and said he looked like he was being choked and pointed out that he was coughing. After a moment of hesitation, the "doctor" said, "Oh he's just excited." I've had my dog for almost four years and he has never reacted that way due to "excitement". It was a couple of months ago but every time I think of it I get really pissed and I think people should be certain they are present if still choosing to use this guy. I never returned and I never will. Aside from that awful experience, the appearance of the clinic looks like it hasn't been updated in 30 years. It looks like it's minimally maintained just to meet whatever codes vet clinics are supposed to uphold and that's it. The blonde lady at the front was very nice and pleasant but seemed like she was given more than her share of work dealing with phones, clients, and whatever else. This place is gross. I go to Sajo Farm now which is okay so far. Still seeking a classy, non-dog-choking-then-lying-about-it veterinarian who treats animals like more than "just animals" and like what they are: family members. Two thumbs down. Read Less

I've taken my dog here for several years, and used to love the care my pet received.  However, that vet has since left and the business is now run by the two owners- neither of which I am impressed with.First, they're all about the dental cleanings... Oh, your dog has cancer? You should get her teeth cleaned.  Your dog needs a rabies shot? She needs a dental cleaning before we can do that.  I was in for a routine physical a few years ago and ended up being held up for 45 minutes while the front desk waited for the vet to write up a dental cleaning estimate- which I never asked for nor wanted.Second, I think they're more about the money than the animal.  My dog had a scratched cornea and at a follow up visit, the vet bragged about how well she was doing, did all these tests, and after he was finished I told him he was looking in the wrong eye the whole time.  A simple check of her chart would have pointed this out.  I refused to pay for the visit, and they sent me bills for months after this.I would always rather support small business and someone in the neighborhood, but I can no longer support this office. It kills me to give this vet even ONE star.  WORST experience at a vets office.  DO NOT SUBJECT YOUR PET TO SUBPAR CARE!!!!! The lack of care at this office is enough to make me sick.  I am new to the area and I took my kitty here for her new patient exam and her vaccines that she was due for.  ....she has been SICK ever since, sneezing and watery/red/blood shot  eyes. Dr. Smith has blamed it on the vaccines ever since!  I spoke to another vet, and I was told that the she shouldn't be feeling any symptoms from the vaccines anymore.  THEY ARE LIARS, AND THEY WILL TAKE YOUR $$$ AND SELL YOU EXPIRED PRODUCTS.  BIG MISTAKE, TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. TAKE IT FROM ME, AND SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE HEADACHE AND THE CONSTANT RUN-AROUND THAT THEY WILL SURELY GIVE YOU!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

Dr. Hastings and his staff are wonderful! They all very knowledgeable and willing to provide additional information if they don't know the answer. Their facility is in a convenient location and is always very clean. Their appointment hours differ from most vets in that they are open after typical business day hours and on Saturdays. They always follow up with a friendly phone call to check on your pet and are great about appointment reminder calls. As someone who is new to the area, I would highly recommend them and their rates are very reasonable. Plus the first exam visit is free if you are new client!Read Less

My husband and I have been taking our dog here for almost a year. Up until this point we really enjoyed it. However, our dog was scheduled to have oral surgery on a Friday, and they called the Wednesday prior telling us the Dr. was no longer available...We scheduled the surgery weeks in advance and took days off of work. Who runs a business this way? They did not offer any compensation or logical explanation. Will not be returning! Read Less

I take my Mastiff mix here and he is a really big boy.  I have been to other vets that I can tell that the staff are not used to bigger dogs and are a bit intimidated by them.  Not here.  The whole staff is very nice and the vet techs are amazing.  Most dogs, and their owners, are intimidated just by the site of my big baby (he is 3) and being aware of this they offer us an exam room to wait in.  No this doesn't bother me because I don't see it as discrimination or nothing like that.  I see is as good customer service to anticipate the needs of the customer and tailor to that.  It really depends on who is in the lobby.  If we wait in an exam room or not.
