I have been taking my 10 year old Dachshund to Pungo Veterinary Clinic for her regular check ups and until today I havent needed to call on them to be seen because of an emergency situation. I called this morning because she has injured her back and is a lot of pain and needs help!! I was told we won't be able to see her because we're busy today. Maybe try to get her seen somewhere else!!! Are you kidding me??? You're her Doctor, thats why we have Doctor's for our pets...not just for routine visits and to sell me product but when an injury of illness happens she needs help. It was then my problem to find a means for giving her relief. I was lucky enough to get connected with Dr Johnson at Birdneck Animal Hospital. I cannot say enough about my gratitude for the kind, caring and loving way he helped my little dog. I have moved to this pratice and will never set foot in Pungo VC again. I went in seeking service as a new customer for my pet. There were a total of four employees standing in the hallway and at the front desk to greet me. They were all friendly. All having the time to acknowledge me when I came in the office . I explained I was seeking a well pet visit for a new cat. I was told at the front desk that they were not taking new customers because it was a slow time of year..?? I was told they wanted to hold open some of their appointment slots just in case.?? Then I was told to call back next week and see if they had any available openings.?? Good train customer service techs would have taken my name, put me on a waiting list, told me they would've called me back with an opening, apologize for the inconvenience, and even possibly try to squeeze me in one of their openings during the week, or possibly offer to call me back if they have a cancellation. I've lived near this Office for years. I try to support local businesses as much as possible but when the business doesn't treat their customers professionally then one must find another source of service. I always give people a second chance. This could've been just a bad day for the desk receptionist and the three other employees standing in the hall, so if there are any changes to services in the future I will come back and change my rating. First off, we had a Westie, named Contessa, Tess for short; we took her to Pungo Vet clinic all her life (15yrs 4mo). They used to be awesome; the Vet used to let us go back w/ Tess for shots blood draws ect. We loved that Vet! The current Vet is the opposite, we would take Tess in, and they would take her in the back, treat her and bring her out. We took her in a couple of years ago for ear issues, they took her back and treated her ears w/ something I don't even know what it's called now, but never told us the possible side effects were deafness, didn't know that until we called back about a week later asking why she was deaf, and that is when we found out about the possible side effects. Well that dreaded day came when we had to send her to Rainbow Bridge OCT-23-2015. I dropped her for an emergency look about 8:40am, they said they would check her out and I should have her back by noon. 40min later they called me at work w/ bad news, she was in renal failure, and there was nothing we could do but send her away peacefully. We agreed, when I got there, they had already sedated her without giving me a chance to say goodbye, she was too drugged to know I was even there, they gave here the final shot, and then she was gone. They were gracious and sympathetic, didn't charge me for the procedure, and provided a way to have her cremated and remains returned to us. They took a paw print in some clay, cut a tuff of fur, and sent a sympathy card signed by the Techs and Vet, and that was much appreciated. The problem I have with this issue is they presumed to know what was best for Tess and I. The family should know all aspects of the procedure, the pros and cons, and let the family make the call to sedate before saying goodbye. I have grieved and have been angry that I didn't get to say goodbye. I didn't want her think I left her there alone to die by herself, un-loved. Even though I was there with her during her final breath of life, I truly believe she didnt know I was there. This and other issues are why we will never take our pets to Pungo Vet in the future. Love all the folks at Pungo Vet!! They've been taking care of my fur babies for almost 30 years. So very caring and compassionate. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They have literally "SAVED" my pets from sure death over the years. I can't say enough nice things about them. I see that a few bad comments are only because they can't take more patients. It's not a big practice, but it is a good one. They are only limiting their clients as to give quality care to the pets. That doesn't deserve low marks... quite the contrary. I was Hello .....my cat was a patient of pungo vet clinic. It was all over a misunderstanding. Now my cat whose name is Orion is having severe mouth problems and is not eating any food right now. Dr Attia is a wonderful vet. I really need her help once again we could not find any other vet who can take care of him like she can. I recently had my cat become very ill was treated rudely on phone and told to go to emergency vet. during regular business hours, finally after becoming angry I was seen the same day. Was charged $50 office visit for my sick cat whom had to be put to sleep. Also was told $150 to $175 to neuter my male lab mix had him neutered by peta for $70 with 3 days of take home pain meds for him. I have been going to pungo for over 10 years and its getting harder for me to afford to bring my pets in and some of the newer staff is very rude. Read Less

My Golden had to be treating for Heartworms, He really loves going to pungo vet, He is really a different dog when he gets there because as a puppy he would be loved on and back behind the receptionists desk, and now at 55 ibs. he still wants the love from the girls, they are great, it does not matter how many people are in there, if you have them on the phone, or in front of the receptionist desk, you have the whole staffs full attention. You just really feel important and I felt really bad because last year financially I had issues and missed some vet appointments and he ended up with heartworms, I was in shock, and felt so bad I just wanted to cry in the room. They made me feel better, and said I was not the only one and it is very common in this area, so even though lack of my care caused his journey with pungo vet which should not have been a case, I was really in shock , my baby with heartworms, how awful even though I still feel responsible, I got it taken care of I paid payments and final payments within a couple of weeks and schd. his appointment. The point is they never critisized me they knew I knew the importance of heartworm pills, but things do happen so they not only helped my baby they helped me emotionally deal with the guilt, so now it is over and we are going on to step two making sure he is clear in two weeks. The moral of the story is even if you have to go without something keep your dogs on heartworm pills no matter what life brings you because that few dollars a month will cost you with over four hundred when they tell you they are positive, it is really stupid for my dog to go through this but it is what it is. Don't even say it won't happen to your dog because my dogs are inside dogs I never thought that would be anything I would have had to deal with. I took my cat here a few months ago and ""assumed"" that the amount they charged me was for everything done at that visit. I went back a few days ago and was told that they made a mistake and failed to bill me $15, the problem was that they now wanted $66 from me. I had no idea that I owed them $15. I told them that I did not mined paying the $15 but the $66 was unreasonable. This must have upset the owner/vet because she came around the corner yelling at me that I need to pay their attorney fee's. I explained to her that her front desk said that it was their mistake so it was unreasonable to ask me to pay her attorney fee's. The kicker is that I never heard from an attorney so I'm not sure what they were paying an attorney for. I have been taking my animals here since I was 10 years old and yet the vet cared more for her attorney fee's then my continued business. I switched from my old Vet a few years ago after I heard good things from some friends. My old Vet prices kept climbing and it was out of the way. They are very caring and spend time with you and don't try to talk you into unnecessary treatments. My pets aren't afraid to visit them either like they were at my old place. When I had to put my one dog down due to illness they were compassionate and in no hurry to be paid. It is a family friendly kind of place who in this day and age aren't in it to make a buck like most places are. All I have to say about the above review is that IT MUST JUST BE YOU. I have been coming to Pungo Vet for 10 years and never had anything but kind hearts and smiles. They go out of their way for you whenever they can and always have a rescue of some kind that they are fixing up and adopting out. I would never go anywhere else with my animals that I love as my children. I have seen people get upset that they could not be clients with my vet, since they do stop taking new clients when the times calls for it. I had to applaud them for the reason when I asked.
