We've been coming to Srawbridge for quite some time after they took in our cat for an emergency allergy visit. They treat both Cleopatra and Hannibal very well. The techs never get upset when Hannibal is scared of them picking him up and does some barking. The vets are also very nice to both our kids and all smiles. When they call to remind us of appointments or update us, they're super friendly.Prices are reasonable in my opinion, but pets expensive in general and we have a few. When we got our lizard, they recommended an exotic pet vet to us as they couldn't and that was great. We usually don't have a preference in who sees us. I do have to say that Hannibal get so much love from the techs that he usually calms down by the time we're supposed to leave and get everything together. They were super accommodating during the storm where we expected flooding for medication to help our Cleopatra travel well up to Northern VA. Read Less

The staff at Strawbridge Animal Care have been incredible to work with over the last year.  I cannot  thank them enough for what they've done for our Bostons - (almost) 17 year old Spanky and 6 year old Lincoln. The front desk staff are always professional, welcoming, and helpful, and they never complain about submitting insurance forms or helping me switch around my appointment times. We go 3 times a week for SubQ fluids and the vet techs always take great care of Spanky and make sure he's comfortable during the procedure. We regularly see Dr. Salmon at the Great Neck clinic who examines and gives him acupuncture weekly. I have found Dr. Salmon to be exceptional - caring, personable, honest, comprehensive, proactive, science-minded, and driven to provide the best veterinary medicine possible. Dr. Salmon has not only saved Spanky's life a couple of times but also given him a new lease on life by easing his aches and pains through acupuncture and closely monitoring his health conditions. He is now taking much fewer medications and has an improved quality of life. In the few times of an emergency when Dr. Walker, German, or Griffin were on staff, I have found them to be attentive to the urgent nature of the visit, compassionate, and willing to help coordinate care with Bay Beach Emergency and Dr. Salmon so that she stays in the loop to monitor Spanky's condition until she can see him next. Between the Strawbridge and Great Neck locations of this practice we are in there 4 times a week so I get to see the day to day operations from the client perspective and truly appreciate the commitment to compassionate, quality care that all of these professionals have exhibited. My first experience with Strawbridge Animal Care occurred a couple of years ago.  I liked the separate entrances for dogs and for cats, because Eddie, my cat, is quite frightened at any vet's office, so I liked that we could be at some distance from possibly rambunctious dogs.  I met with Dr. Salmon, and she diagnosed the problem quickly and her recommendations worked in a cost efficient way.  Since then, I have been seeing Dr. Amanda German, and she has a gentle way of handling Eddie that I rarely ever see, as Eddie remains pretty calm when she works with him.  I like her demeanor, and she explains things very clearly and recommends effective treatments that make good sense to me.  Also, the office is quite clean and very cheerfully decorated.  The front desk staff are always attentive, friendly and caring.  I have found the vet's office for my Eddie for sure in Strawbridge Animal Care, and highly recommend this facility! Brought my dog in for a hot spot behind his ear that became infected. The tech before she(or anyone) even looked at my dog started saying they were going to run some ear tests, etc. I just stopped her right there and told her I thought it was a hot spot and didn't want to run unnecessary tests and have a $500 bill. She was rude and just said she'd notify the doctor and walked out. The doctor came in and asked me some normal questions but then asked me if he's been scratching it a lot. I said, "not really." She was very rude and replied, "well he has to be scratching it for it to get like that." Well ok, perhaps at some point but NO since I found it yesterday I haven't noticed an unusual amount of scratching. Like are you calling me a liar? She suggested I get a cone, but I really didn't feel like he needed one bc like I said, from what I noticed he hasn't messed with it much. Fast forward to check out. They treated the area and prescribed antibiotics. They make a point to tell the front desk to schedule a "check up" in a week. I said "no" bc I don't think it's necessary and I'm not bringing him in and paying for an unnecessary visit. If it worsened or didn't heal up then yes I would bring him back but let's wait and see first. They were rude. They kept trying to get me to pay for this or that. All they wanted was money had no real concern for the pet or the potential client. And for the record he is healing up nicely no need for a cone or a follow up visit. But what do I know, right? I brought my two Aussies here, and I did because they have convenient office hours. When I arrived 10 mins before my appointment I sat in the common room for 15 mins, and the waiting room for almost 45 mins. My boys had to get their routine shots up to date, and it was super expensive compared to other places I have been. My return visit for the 2nd round of shots, no exam, they charged me $50 per pet ($100 since I took two dogs). The veterinarian was really nice, but it’s just not enough to cover the extra costs here. You can find the same service, convenient office hours, and all for a lesser price. Read Less

I've taken almost all of my animals/family animals here and honestly lately I cannot express how disappointed I am in the care here. My family's Golden was being seen for old age and heart issues. I took him in waiting there for 4 hours running "tests" and an "ultrasound" to get told it was a "tummy bug" which I quote these bc I was charged for these procedures however after getting home not even 15 minutes later he collapsed and I was advised to "see how he was in the next 48 hours" my gut said ER vet.. 20 mins after arriving at the ER vet I was told through ultrasound findings he was bleeding and had been bleeding from 3 major internal organs and had to be immediately put to sleep. Fast forward to my other little fella that has aggression issues. I had brought him in due to him peeing constantly all over the house with occasional blood in the urine, however I was just told to monitor his water intake. 2 weeks ago he was not medicated however with much progress he has calmed down a lot and  allowed techs to walk in and out of the room without a peep and even walked passed a dog in the lobby... all usual triggers for him. The vet however refused to see him bc he wasn't medicated. I rescheduled. Fast forward to the final straw tonight, the office was running behind and my dog this time medicated and muzzled both he tries to fight, it's not natural for him. Waited a good 30-35 mins and wouldn't have been placed in a room if I wasn't for another dog walking in. I was asked if we still wanted to try to take blood. At this point I know my dog and this was too stressful, however I took it as they wanted some kind of money out of me since last visit was rescheduled. After these mishaps I will be taking my business elsewhere. If I could give this practice zero stars I would! If your animal has a special kink or needs more attention this is NOT the practice to go to or for any actual veterinarian opinion bc I'm pretty sure web MD would give more accurate diagnosis. I have been Strawbridge Animal Care client for many years. Strawbridge Animal Care staff are very friendly, helpful, caring , compassionate and have always taken excellent care of my pets. They are knowledgeable and try hard to help with my pet’s health problems. When my beloved Mini crossed over the rainbow bridge after 22 years together, staff was very comforting. Receiving a handmade sympathy card signed by all the staff, made me feel cared for and loved. It helped with my grieving. The Vets and staff are NOT knowledgeable. Brought my dog in for for a diagnosis and they were not able to figure anything out. Their knowledge of animal nutrition was really the main reason why I left not to mention the general crappy attitude of the doctors and staff. All three of my doggies have been coming here for almost a year now. I really recommend them. Their staff, vets and facility is very caring, nice and clean. They truly respect me and know/love my dogs. My dogs have been seen by all of the vets and each one of them are very informative, kind and very open to helping us and our pets. The prices are expensive, but the quality is very amazing and well worth it. To top it off they extended their hours, so that helps a lot! Read Less

Very caring and understanding staff. I am from out of state and picked this vet clinic from reviews. I had to make the extremely hard choice to put my mastiff down. Staff was kind and supportive and made a horrible situation as comfortable as possible for both her and myself. We have taken our 2 dogs and 2 cats there over the last 7 years.. Lately I feel like this place has grown stagnant. We go in for a simple wellness exam ($45) and leave with a $300 bill.. The assistant and vet gave me a lot of great information and took their time with us. They didn't make me feel like I needed to spend a bunch of money on other services. When I called to make my first appointment I felt like I'd love this place!   They had a bit of an emergency while we were there so it took a little bit to actually see he vet.   It was a little odd, as the exam wasn't quite the same as our last vet would do so it seemed "off" but it still seemed thorough.     Overall the experience was great and the vet tech helping was fantastic!  The only downfall I see to this place is they do seem a little expensive (idk If that is just normal for vets in the area or if they are more expensive than others, but more expensive than we are used to). And our dogs are so used to getting loved on at our old vets so they were expecting that and just whines the whole time since they didn't get acknowledged at the front next (silly I know but it's just what we are used to with our precious vets).  I'd recommend them as the overall care seemed great and they are more than likely going to be our permanent vet while we are here. I'm new to the area and I've always been cautious about where to take my babies. My dog has never had fleas, it's never been an issue where we're from so when we came out here he was crawling with little bitting b*******s. I saw this place by chance and instantly knew I had to look it up. I saw nothing but good reviews and knew it was worth a try. I was very pleased with the experience and the attention my baby received. I also feel like it was meant to be. My dog was diagnosed with a minor case of epilepsy last year, but I am the only one who has ever witnessed an episode. He had one during this visit. It's sad that he had one but I'm relieved that it happened here, in a vets office, while the vet was with him even! Now a professional has witnessed it first hand and reassured me that yes it is epilepsy and just too keep and eye on everything like I have been. They made me aware of all my options for how to handle the fleas. They did not pressure any particular medication and and treated me and my dog with respect and kindness. They were really warm and personable when I brought my mini Schnauzer for her yearly check up and I appreciate how quickly I was in and out plus the honesty of the veterinarian in regards to various medications I asked about for my dog. My cat had been having diarrhea and rapidly losing weight for months. I had been taking him to another veterinary clinic and they never explored what was wrong with him. I woke up one morning and he was lethargic, hadn't touched his food, and he had gone to the bathroom on himself. I called my usual vet and they had no openings that day (blessing in disguise!). I saw the dire need to get him in ASAP so I called Strawbridge as a new client and they fit me in within an hour. My appointment time was 12:00 and I was there with Dr. Walker's undivided attention until 3:30. They ran numbers of tests and explained everything to me, although disheartening because they suspected cancer. Dr. Walker, the techs, and the receptionists were so kind and compassionate as I was tearfully pacing their waiting room. They ran tests that my other vet never thought of doing on my cat, due to this and catching a mass on his intestines at the right time, this has prolonged his life. My cat was on the brink of irreversible damage and death. Without Dr. Walker's help and seeing the true urgency, my cat would no longer be with us. He referred us to a surgeon in the knick of time. Dr. Walker even spent time after the clinic's closing time to call the referring surgeon and explain what we were facing. I highly recommend this clinic! The entire staff's compassion, knowledge, and true love for animals is apparent. I couldn't ask for more from them! Read Less

Dr. Henderson and the staff at Strawbridge are the best! They have taken care of all three of my dogs. We were new clients to this location and they immediately treated us like family. We just recently took in our new rescue, and not only did we not get charged for an office visit, they were running a new pet special, they were very thorough in checking him out without breaking our bank. We were there for over an hour and didn't feel rushed at all. I also love that they call the next day to check in. They were very supportive when we called panicking about the new dog getting along with the others, even Dr. Henderson called us personally to make sure things were ok. Highly recommended!!!!! We LOVE this vet! Dr. Henderson has taken exceptional care of our first 2 boys since they were babies at another office. Now, we travel the 30-40 mins just to come to this clinic. The techs are super friendly and accommodating, even when you call panicking and needing advice. We have recently rescued a 3rd and they have all been so helpful getting us all acclimated to the new guy. They go above and beyond without being all about the money :) As the mom of 4 dogs now, I wouldn't go anywhere else! The extended evening hours are a plus too for us working "parents".Read Less

I have been going to Strawbridge Animal Care since 1994 and have always been exceptionally pleased with the care of my dogs. There has been times when I have gone in as an emergency and the Dr. has seen my dogs right in the waiting area, got him on meds right away that were absolutely needed. I also have a dog that is 15 years old & that there is never any hesitation when I call about a concern that they cannot see her. They are excellent Drs. and staff and always professional. I was very pleased with the result of my visit to Strawbridge Animal Care. My golden had had a crusty cracking nose with off and on drainage for over a year.. I was told by another veternarian that he just had an "old age nose". It got to the point that he became lethargic and could barely walk. Diagonosis by strawbridge: nasal infection. Within a month (he was put on antibiotics) he was up and running again. The staff is very friendly and Dr. Deavers' knowledge brought my dog's shiny black nose back. I have been very pleased with Strawbrdge Animal Care and refer all of my friends. The staff are very friendly and have gone out of their way to make sure my animals are well cared for. Dr. Deavers is the best!! She truly cares for the animals she sees and is extemely thorough. She diagnosed my dog with Leishmaniasis and lymphoma about 3 years ago. My dog was acting oddly (tilting her head, difficulty standing). Not one, but two of the vets told me that they could not determine what was wrong, but that whatever it was, was serious and would require 'a lot' of testing. As my dog is at the upper end of her life expectancy, they asked me, "Where are you with this?" I explained that I could not justify spending hundreds/thousands of dollars on the unknown. They gave me a referral to an emergency vet hospital for euthanization. The younger doctor also gave me the phone number of a vet who travels to your house and puts your dog down for $250. My wife and I sat with our seven year old daughter and cried together about what we had to do.Thank God we got a second opinion from another vet. With a visual inspection (no costly blood work) and our description of the symptoms, she diagnosed her with an inner ear condition. She prescribed Meclizine and within a few days our family member was up and running around like a puppy.When I called the clinic, the Practice Manager was less than sympathetic and was actually rude to me. While she did apologize for her two doctors’ “misdiagnosis”, that was the extent of customer service offered to me. She even mentioned getting her lawyers involved. Today I received a letter from her letting me know that they would no longer serve our dog.If you choose to go to this clinic, my best advice is to have another one in the wing just in case. Strawbridge Animal Care on General Booth Blvd in Virginia Beach is an exceptional Vet clinic. Very polite staff are always willing to help you and are very accommodating and sympathetic to your needs. The doctors there are very sincere about there love and concern for top notch animal health and well being. When our puppy became very ill, the care given to her was over and above any care we had ever received from any other vet clinic in the past.
