I just moved to town, and Godspeed Animal Care took my dog same day, who was unable to put weight on his back leg. The doctor diagnosed a torn ACL, but wanted to take x-rays. Our 12 yr old cat underwent Iodine-131 treatment for her hyperactive thyroid and has been seeing Dr. Mullins for follow-up thyroid tests (blood work). Dr. Mullins has held our hand and walked us through the treatment with Dr. Howard (in Richmond). Dr. M explained everything very thoroughly and even gave us extra online articles to read on the I-131 procedure. The entire treatment went very smoothly and our cat is back to normal with normal thyroid readings. We are grateful for the excellent care our cats have received from Godspeed and highly recommend them. They understand how important our pets are to us and are knowledgeable as well as UNDERSTANDING of nervous pet parents. I love the vet. She is amazing and we always go to her for out cats. The office staff can be a little terse, especially on the phone. On our last visit I could hear my cat crying in the back room and a male vet tech making fun of her. It was really heartbreaking for me and I wasn't sure what to do. I think the staff could do with sensitivity and customer service training. But, the vets themselves are amazing and really care for the animals and some of the staff is nice. I can't imagine taking our dog Summer anywhere else. It all started with the complimentary wellness appt after we adopted our puppy almost a year ago, where they gave us so much valuable information and help, and we just kept coming back! Our dog attends playcare 2-3 times a week here, has been boarded multiple times, and of course this is also where she receives her routine check-ups and shots. I feel like the staff genuinely cares about Summer! If she shows any signs of concern, they call me right away. The customer service is excellent. The staff here are friendly and caring. Sadly, my sister passed away a few months ago, and I had to board Summer on literally a moment's notice for a lengthy amount of time. It is times like these when we need someone we can rely on to care for our pets! During her stay, she got sick. The staff kept me informed during the entire process, sometimes with calls throughout the day. They answered every question I had, and took better care of her than I would have been able to. I always recommend this place to my friends, because I really believe it's the best place in town. My dog LOVES coming to here, and we LOVE leaving her in such capable hands. Read Less

I heard about the news story in Norfolk, I was sad to hear about anyone's pet dying. HOWEVER, I have a Yorkie and a Pug for which I have boarded both (together) and use Godspeed for their vet care and have EXPERIENCED NOTHING BUT TRULY PROFESSIONAL, CARING SERVICE. Anytime you board an animal, especially tiny breeds such as ours, and with another dog, it is more difficult to monitor individual dogs intake of food and water. I'm not a vet and I don't work with animals and I know this. I believe that there were multiple factors involved in this story and the outcome was unfortunate, but I would not hesitate a minute to recommend their services and I will continue to board my animals there without a second thought.Read Less

I took my sick rat, Gulliver, to Godspeed in hopes of getting him better. While there we found out he had a heart condition that he could not recover from and he was dying. We chose euthanasia. The decision was hard but, the staff at Godspeed did an amazing job. I am very pleased with the service they provided and the clay print they provided me with was so much more than I expected. Our dog has been attending Godspeed for nearly 3 years now. He attends their playcare facility full time and his medical care is handled by their veterinary clinic as well. My husband and I are kept quite busy in our work lives, leaving him with the folks at Godspeed the majority of his days. We feel at ease knowing that he is being left with a staff of people who love animals, care for their well being, but also come to know the personalities of each and every dog and their individual needs. In fact, they took the time to teach this tennis-ball-fixated golden retriever how to share in ball play. That is some feat in and of itself! The folks in playcare have always been professional, accommodating, helpful and trustworthy. It is obvious that our dog loves them too. I have always felt equal attention and concern from their veterinary side as well. He has seen both Dr. Dumont and Dr. Cohen - very knowledgeable, caring doctors. I absolutely love Godspeed and their staff. Marti Dudley is our vet and I cannot say enough about her. She is professional, very knowledgeable and most important she cares very much about her patients and their parents. Our puppy is our life and I am always so grateful for the care and love he receives at Godspeed. Each week our pup attends play care at St. Francis. He LOVES play care and has the best time. Each week the staff knows us and gives love to Barkley. When we have had Barkley stay overnight, we were very happy knowing that if something went wrong, the vet was just a couple feet away. I want to thank St. Francis Pet Resort for taking good care of my fur baby Max!!! It was his first time boarding and everyone I met ensured me he was in great hands! I was able to visit him everyday as my family and I vacationed in Williamsburg. Max always seemed happy and I was told he enjoyed play care everyday! I also called the first few nights to get an update on Max and the night staff were always so pleasant! A special thank you to Sam who checked us in and was always very attentive!!! I am temporarily disabled so I asked for a home visit to clip my cat's claws and put on soft paws. The two women techs who came out were: 1) unfriendly and non responsive and 2) completely incapable of clipping claws and knew nothing about how to put on soft paws. At one point the woman said, "Well usually cats just sit still." Really? They must deal with cats from an alternate universe. And then, when I emailed Godspeed to say how disappointed I was, they responded saying their employees are perfect. Hmmm, the employees can't clip cats claws because the cat won't stay still and they don't know how to apply soft paws even though the office said they could. I don't see much perfection. I do it only because I want to express my gratitude for and endorsement of Godspeed Animal Clinic. It's operated by a caring, compassionate, supremely competent group of people headed by Dr. Dumonta remarkably capable and compassionate veterinarian, who clearly does what she does out of love. A side-note: Godspeed is one of the few clinics offering home visits and emergency pick-ups. First and foremost, I'd like to claim that my personal review has no reflection on the company itself, only on my most recent experience. I believe that God Speed has a tremendous and knowledgeable staff. They are extremely professional to say the least. With that said, unfortunately my latest experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. My dog, Brody, has epilepsy and has been seeing God Speed for over 2 years now and recently Brody had a very traumatic seizure and I was incapable of transferring him myself. I called to let them know and they said they were sending someone to come pick him up. I'm extremely grateful for this action because if it wasn't for them, I might have lost him. On the other side of that coin, when I called to receive transportation I made sure to clarify that I had recently moved so that they wouldn't go to my old place. However, communication was not made and they went to my old place before the new. After they picked him up (the young girls did a phenomenal job on scene) I drove to God Speed to wait out the situation. While in the waiting room I was told that "it's not looking good" and that "Normally I'd have you back there but you'd be in the way." Now, I understand that I might be in the way, but don't entertain the idea that I could see my dog in his last moments then take the moments away. In my opinion it was an unnecessary comment in a sensitive moment. Fortunately they were able to bring his temp down to prevent a heat stroke. He stabilized and then I was told he needs to be transferred to an emergency clinic. So at this point, I'm thinking that the same vehicle they picked him up in will be used to transfer him. No, I had to fit Brody that was on a stretcher in my back seat and proceed to drive into rush hour traffic. I drove on the shoulder so it wasn't a problem getting there in time. As I check Brody in and fill out his paper work, the Vet at the emergency clinic is asking me questions to which I felt that paper work from God Speed would take care of. So when expressing that, Im told that no paperwork has been transferred and is incapable of attaining due to God Speed closing at 6pm. I would think if compassion is your moto, you'd call and see if we made it okay. As I'm told that Brody needs to stay over night, I have a cost estimate of $900. I asked the consistency of that $900 to figure out if there was anything that God Speed did that you could leave out of your process and his quote is "They didn't do anything." Not really words I'd like to hear after spending $455. The fact that Brody left alive is worth every penny in my savings. $455 means nothing with that gain. The doctor also proceeded to tell me that the medication God Speed prescribed was an unusual prescription given his weight and condition. Now, this might not be true because opinions are opinions but it'd be nice if everyone was on the same page. This review might be an emotional reaction because this is all still fresh to me, but I do feel that we were rushed out of God Speed. I felt like Brody and I were a burden. I have worked there going on 3 years. I have never work for a greater group of people. The doctors are all outstanding. I have never asked a question that didn't get answered properly. All of my coworker's put their hearts into each and every animal that comes through the door. Playcare is the most touching job. Your animals have a blast each and every day. And are very well taken care of. And I'm very proud to say the kennel is the top place in town. It is very clean what you pay for you get. They are very honest and caring of all the animals. I have been coming to Godspeed for almost 20 years. They have taken good care of my dogs. Best of all, they could not have been more kind and available when 2 of my dogs reached the end of their life. Everyone there helped both me and my pets through the final stages of their life. I have been visiting Godspeed for 15 years, seeing Drs. Mullen and Schiller, and have taken my two Scotties, Kiltie and Bess for medical care. They have also stayed at their hotel, The St. Francis, and were well received. Now a West Hyland Terrier (all of 9 lbs) has entered my life, Rob Roy Macgregor, and he will be a frequent visitor. The boarding staff at St Francis, including Abigail, helped us through every step of boarding. Our situation was unique and we were out of choices. The staff does a great job putting my dog at ease by showing her that they are her friends! :) They are so caring, patient, and understanding!
