I've found this four-doctor veterinary practice very competent and compassionate in their treatment approach, at least in my first two interfaces with them. Transferring my pet's vet records from the previous practice was seamless. Dr Hill, the vet techs, and the front office we're all professional and welcoming. Intake and evaluation was as scheduled and painless. Jolly Pond Veterinary also has a boarding facility, which is only available to their veterinary patients. Meaning, their boarders are somewhat vetted (no pun intended). Sounds good to me, but haven't actually used it personally. We appreciate having such a great resource so close to home! Read Less

I love these folks. They always greet me and my fur babies by name and when I had to help two cross the rainbow bridge the amount of compassion they showed was above and beyond what I could expect. I took my cat to the Jolly Pond Vegetarian for a routine blood check up  My Cat saw Dr. Hill, my cat was doing fine health wise. Dr. Hill took my cat to the back room where I could not see to get the blood work and when I got my Cat home, she was throwing up all over the place.   I just took my cat there for a regular check up and my cat was dead with in a week.  I don't know what Dr. Hill did to her, but she died with in a week after seeing Dr. Hill.   Before  my cat died, Dr. Hill called my residence and left a message, it sounded like he was saying AWWW that's too bad, in his tone.  I personally think and believe that Dr. Hill done something to my cat when he took her in the back where I could not see him.      I read another review on the internet where another patient had a very similar experience with Dr. Hill, only their pet died the next day.     I think all people should be aware of Mr. Hill at Jolly Pond veterinarian when two pets die almost immediately after he sees them.   Dr. Guzman is not much better, when my cat was meowing one day, Mrs. guzman said to me, that my cat was just "bitching".    I don't think people should take a chance with the Dr. Hill.  In addition Mr. Hill tried to jack up the price on me for an emergency visit, when I confronted him with it, he blamed his mistake on Dr. Fiddler's coffee. I don't take my dog ANYWHERE else. The professional and clerical staff are awesome. Dr.Brown saved my dog's leg by removing a nasty recurring spindle cell tumor. Other Vets attempted to remove the tumor, but it continued to grow back. Their solution was leg amputation. We followed Dr. Brown to Jolly Pond when they opened in 2003. Dr. Brown has always taken such good care of our pets. I believe she saw my childhood dog for all 15 years she was with us. Luckily we only had one emergency visit with the dog and she took such good care of her. When it was time to say goodbye, she was extremely understanding and comforting, while still being informative and upfront about what would happen. She also treated my hamster when I was younger. She explained the treatment process and even made it simple so I could do it myself at ~12 yo (with adult supervision of course.) Dr. Brown now takes care of my cat. The cat unfortunately has some unexpected health issues, but she has kept open conversation and has been very knowledgeable about the symptoms and possible causes. Her treatment plan so far has been very effective and we (and the cat!) couldn't be happier. We have also seen Dr. Gussman once, when Dr. Brown wasn't available for a last minute appointment. She was also very knowledgeable about the symptoms and possible causes. Like Dr Brown, she was very thorough with her explanations, and treatment options, and why she recommended starting with certain treatments first. Unfortunately our situation is very much trial by error for treatments - which we have had verified by a third outside vet during a nighttime emergency trip. I have complete trust in their knowledge and abilities. Jolly Pond also has very friendly and efficient staff. Everyone is human, and yes, on a rare occasion there has been a small mistake with billing or maybe grabbing the wrong size bag of food. But they always double check themselves and have always caught the mistake before I even have a chance to see it. For the regular/long time patients they seem to remember names and needs. That's pretty impressive to me! They make each client feel very important. I would recommend Jolly Pond to anyone. Read Less

Have been years ago a customer at Jolly Pond right when they opened up, moved away, came back in the area and right back to them. Always had great experience. Today however was different from the usual visits. I rescued a dog 6 weeks ago in Mississippi, had her spayed and vaccinated down there. Today I called in because her incision after 6 weeks had opened back up a little and was a bit swollen. Dr.Hill checked it out after hearing her story and treated her. I took my wonderful sixteen year old Himalayan cat to Dr. Brown at Jolly Pond Veterinary Hospital after she was diagnosed with hypertensive retinopathy and kidney disease. Dr. Brown was thorough in her examination of my cat's condition and advised treatments at each stage of her illness. My tenacious little cat held on through all the tests and procedures as well as prescribed medications meant to address her sickness. This is by far my favorite vet clinic of anywhere I've lived. I initially started bringing my dog to Dr. Brown, and she is an excellent vet. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and very good at what she does. Due to schedules, we ended up seeing Dr. Gussman more and she is also wonderful. She is kind and caring, and truly looks after the best interest of the pet as well as the owner. She helped us through some very difficult times with one of our dogs, and showed more compassion than I'm sure most vets ever do.I have not seen either of the other doctors, but I am sure they are also good given the experiences we've had at Jolly Pond. When we moved to Fredericksburg, we struggled to find a good vet, and so for routine care we continued bringing our dogs to Jolly Pond. Sadly, we no longer live in Virginia so I can't take my dogs here anymore. However, I have continued to reach out to both Dr. Brown and Dr. Gussman for their advice because I trust them. Dr. Ruth Gussman is WONDERFUL! Knowledgeable and personable, she was very thorough and gentle when treating my new cat, who has been through a lot of life-threatening medical trauma in her short life. An abandoned kittie who was rescued by Pawsitively Precious and had to undergo multiple surgeries to save her, the staff at Jolly Pond was already very familiar with and invested in her health. My wife and I are new to the area. Our dog has been experiencing some difficulties and so I called jolly pond and ask if they could see them anytime after 5 because we work. She said NO. I must say that before my most recent experience I was pretty happy with the treatment for out animals, however, yesterday I was very unhappy., our cat had been diagnosed with cancer in July , and, I knew yesterday it was time to put her to rest. I had a 2;45pm appt. I was willing to wait for another day, but this was the time I was given, we arrived on time, did not see the vet for 35mins, she gave the cat a sedative, told us she would be back in 10 mins, 20mins later I was upset and had to ask for someone to see to our cat. It is hard enough to put your animals down without sitting there for nearly an hour, when you know what's coming. I f you are so busy that you cannot see a patient on time, do not give me the appt. This procedure takes approx. 5 mins we where there for over an hour. I am seriously thinking of finding another vet. Read Less

Rabbits have a real friend in Dr. Brown. Very few vets know how to treat bunnies whose needs are quite different from small cats and dogs. Because of the 5-Star review I saw already posted, we decided to get a second opinion on our mastiff's skin condition from Jolly Pond. Boy were we glad we did! We met with Dr Brown and upon bringing our very large dog through the front door, Dr Brown was already running down the list of symptoms. This was our first visit at this vet clinic and the 1st time diagnosis was right-on! Talk about impressive. Dr Brown at Jolly Pond advised a basic blood test to scan thyroid levels and behold, our dog's thyroid level was very very low on the scale. She immediately treated with thyroid meds and we saw extreme changes in our dog's behavior and activity. Her skin is healing and she is wagging her tail again. She is already 99% better from the one-time treatment.We had been seeing another vet hospital and for nearly 2 years (near Anderson's corner); not once did they mention a possible case of thyroid which was throwing off our dog's metabolism with skin infections, loss of hair, and overweight. They were leading down the path of allergies and wanted us to pay for many expensive tests. This went on for nearly 2 years!!!I was immediately impressed with this Vet hospital that I have permanently changed care of our pet to be under the watch of Jolly Ponds, which is why we give this Vet Hospital  5 STARS across the board! Absolutely a WONDERFUL veterinary hospital.  First and foremost, the vets and staff are incredibly caring and competent.  I have great confidence that they will go above and beyond to treat any problems that my cats have (and they seem to have a lot of medical problems!)  This includes squeezing me in anytime for last-minute appointments, providing off-hours personal contact information for urgent questions, etc... They provide very personal service and are honest and straightforward with their options for treatment, not trying to up-sell unnecessary tests or medications.  I highly recommend Dr. Gussman, but I know that all of the vets there are equally as good.  I cannot recommend them enough.
