Had to take my beagle here on Saturday for an emergency after he approached a bee's nest aggressively and they swarmed him. He went into shock and was expunging all his bodily fluids so urgent care was needed. Staff was quick to recognize that and get him help fast. I have no problems with the care they gave him, they put him on an IV to replenish fluids lost and some steroids to help. He stayed overnight for observation and was ready for pickup the next morning. My only (minor) complaints are: A. the picking up process felt rushed, the doctor didn't visit us at pickup (it was all handled by a vet tech) and I had some confusion about the rehab schedule (certain meds go at certain times, some with foods some without, some have to be spaced out due to incompatibility with other meds). And B. They could do a better job breaking down all the charges, when we first got the estimate they weren't thorough about explaining all the different types of charges and when we said we couldn't afford it they took us back and showed us our dog expunging blood anally and said he was at risk of dying if he didn't get proper care. Which I understand, although money is tight in a life-or-death situation you have to make uncomfortable choices. But it would've helped if they broke down all the charges and helped you understand why it's necessary. Finally, all we heard about his status was a phone message left early Sunday morning saying he was ready to be picked up. Given the expensive costs involved with the emergency a little more communication would've been nice. Fortunately my sister is also a vet tech so she went over everything with me and explained it out clearly, but others might not be so fortunate. TL;DR: No problems with the actual care, but communications have room for improvement. First in explaining all the charges, then in following up while he is under care, and finally in explaining everything when he's ready to be picked up. Read Less

Woodbridge Animal Hospital is so wonderful. It's not our regular vet hospital, but we've had to take several of our kids there for urgent care for illnesses and occasional mishaps that couldn't wait till the next day. This was the case with our Princess Fiona last night. Everyone there is super nice...to our kids and to us! I can be an extremely protective and overly paranoid Momma (hubby says that's the understatement of the year). When I said as much to the to the staff there, they totally understood and did everything possible to make my princess and me as comfortable as possible. As much as I wished she could come home with us last night, I knew she needed to stay so they could monitor her and run tests to determine what was ailing her. I knew she was in very capable and compassionate hands. Our Princess Fi-Fi came home this morning, and she's back to her spunky, diva self. It's very reassuring to have a 24-hour animal hospital so close to home!Read Less

We had to bring our beloved cat in last night as she wasn't eating or drinking water for the past 72 hours. The techs and vets there are very compassionate. The vet actually took the time to explain everything to us and patiently answer all of the questions I had. He spent about 30 minutes with us going over everything. While waiting to see her, I overheard phone conversations the employees up front had with customers and was able to watch them interact with people who came in with animals. These employees knew the animals either by sight (those who came in) or by name (on the phone). Unfortunately our kitty has to stay overnight again tonight, but it was requested that we come in and visit with her today. When we did, she was putting and head butting the tech who brought her out. It's obvious how much these people care about the animals. I highly recommend.Read Less

My remarkable 8 year old Golden Retriever Romeo had a major surgery last Tuesday "July 26th" to remove a 15lbs tumor from his abdomen that was growing in his spleen and was labeled as necrotic. We were told more than likely that even if he survived the surgery his diagnosis was Hemangiosarcoma which is the most serious kind of cancer for dogs. Today the Doctor who performed his surgery called and said the lab couldn't find any sign of cancer she said she is still going to search tho. But as of right now he is 15lbs tumor free and cancer free as well! Let's also not forget to mention he was hit by a car about 5 years ago and was less than an inch away from being paralyzed... Then because of the injuries they had to re-route his urinary tract, amputate his penis and remove his scrotum. I'd like to say... I think I own a super dog and I claim the bragging rights lol.Read Less

I brought my cat there for what turned out to be a head cold. It was outside normal vet hours and he sounded horrible. The head cold was diagnosed by our regular vet, but not the vet we saw there. The vet there seemed unsure and it almost seemed like he was asking us what to do. He ran unnecessary tests and prescribed ineffective medicine and pushed us to see a specialist for more unnecessary tests. He never even examined our cat in front of us and had him in the back the whole time. Our $400 was wasted there. When we went to our regular vet when they opened they said they weren't surprises that we had a bad experience, they had heard that before. This review will probably he removed before anyone has a chance to read it, but I'm frustrated with the money I wasted that could have gone to pay bills. Read Less

I've put off writing a review for a while, because the loss of a pet is always going to be hard and there are always going to be what ifs when your best friend dies of a disease with very little chance of recovery. That said, I brought both my cats here last year for different things. One cat just had a stomach bug and the team at Woodbridge Animal Hospital was very kind and gentle with her. She recovered quickly and is still going strong. My other cat, however, became ill with liver disease. We brought her in and our vet was very patient with us and thorough in explaining the situation. We hospitalized her so that she could receive a feeding tube and treatments and for a short time she started to look like she was recovering. I do not hold this Hospital responsible for my cat's death, but I was very put off by the actions taken by some of the team members. We had hope our cat might be able to come home and that we would be able to give her the care she needed at home where she might be more comfortable. Instead, when discussing how often her feedings would need to be the person I spoke with became very angry with me over my work schedule. I worked 8-10 hours a day, 7 days a week at the time. Not conducive to feeding a sick cat, but I was making arrangements with a friend and my mother was also at home more to help. I pleaded with her that the team should do what they needed to in order to help my cat get better. Even if that meant a greater cost to us keeping her hospitalized a little longer until she could take in more food. Rather than taking in the needs of the patient - my sick cat, the team overloaded her with an inappropriate amount of food in an attempt to put her onto a 2x/day feeding schedule before she was ready. She quickly went back on the decline and began rejecting any further treatment. Not only were my family and I upset by this treatment, but so was our main vet who I can only assume had words for them. She and the rest of the team were very compassionate however, giving us all the time we needed to say goodbye and sending us a lovely card. I also appreciate their professionalism in providing us a separate exit path so that we would not have to pass back through the lobby. We have since moved from the area, but I am grateful for the time and attention this animal hospital took for us. We saw some wonderful compassionate vets at this location, and I can only hope the overnight staff have treated others much more kindly than they treated us.Read Less

On 03/26/16, I drove 2.5 hours to pick up my Grandson in VA. As soon as we started to head back to Delaware, my Pomeranian had problems breathing. He also has a collapsing trachea. We googled for an emergency hospital and drove to WAH. As soon as we arrived, the staff took my dog back, then I filled out the paperwork. We were led back to a room and the Vet kept us updated. My dog was in Respiratory Distress. The staff and Vet were truly wonderful. Once my boy was stable, we were able to leave with him. The Vet also made a comment about his coat. 3 days later I took my boy to his regular Vet for a follow-up and I mentioned the coat condition. Bloodwork confirmed my dog has low thyroid. I just never noticed, for "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". I want to thank WAH for saving my dog who is like a child to me. He is my world and more. The price of the emergency visit was a fraction of what it would have cost me to walk in an Emergency Vet in Delaware. The price was excellent, the Vet excellent and the staff the best!!! I am quite hard to please, very detailed oriented, but the facility was clean and quiet. If I lived in VA, I would use them on a regular basis, especially since they are an emergency Vet. Read Less

Horrible bedside manner from the vet himself during the emergency hours. He suggested that I put my dog to sleep and constantly told me she was dying because I could not afford the 3500 he was requesting. He then told me if I can just give him $140 more dollars he can see what he can do. My dog honestly was not doing well but I was not going to leave her life at the hands of this vet! I took her to another hospital and paid half of what the vet at wah asked, and the vet was much more compassionate. The front staff and vet tech were great however. Read Less

I started off with WAH when I got my puppy 3 years ago. I realized an animal hospital open 24 hours would likely be a bit more expensive after all one of the factors in my decision was, in an emergency it made sense to me that my dog's medical records would be on site. An important aspect to me, in an emergency, but maybe not to others. I do not understand many people when it comes to their pets, and blaming the vet when he or she does not know your pets history. It's just a consequence of sorts of your decision. I now have 3 dogs at WAH and am very happy with their care. I also have pet insurance to let me sleep at night. I budget an annual amount and it works out ok. Also, they are a very caring place for other reasons that I hope you will trust me on. Read Less

Trust them with your pets - they will take care of them.

If I could give them more stars I would. They go above and beyond every time. Every staff member there is amazing. They treat you and your pets as if you are one of their family members. The treatment both medically and personally is absolutely amazing. I am an over protective pet mom and when my pets are in their hands I don't worry and I know they are in the best of hands and will receive the best care possible. They keep you updated on your pet every step of the way. I wish hospitals, physicians and surgeons for humans were this good. I cannot say enough to truly express how great everyone is. I will only take my pets, current and future, to Woodbridge Animal Hospital. Read Less

Woodbridge Animal Hospital is our primary vet for all our animals and have been for over seven years. Dr. Ross is one of the best primary vets we've ever had. The emergency vets are compassionate and very smart. When our epileptic border collie had to be hospitalized at WAH on many occasions, the vets always consulted with his neurologist whose office was further north. We've come to know all of the vets and consider them friends. The entire staff is wonderful. I highly recommend Woodbridge Animal Hospital. Read Less

Read Less

I started using Woodbridge Animal Hospital before the current owner, Dr.James McDonald, bought the practice. I have been taking my animals to Dr. McDonald ever since and that's close to 30 years (a fact which makes us both cringe). He is kind, knowledgeable, and up to date on veterinary science. Occasionally, I have seen other doctors in the practice when Dr. McDonald was not available. They have all done good work in my opinion. Dr. McDonald started the Emergency Practice when the clinic was in its old location, a much needed service for Eastern Prince William County, Virginia. Now in the new location, the clinic has thrived, which indicates to me that others like the services and competent people as much as I do. Read Less
