We've taken our animals to Grafton Animal Hospital since we moved to Yorktown in 2009. The doctors are warm, caring and compassionate people who really care about your pets. Last week the sad truth of having a dog happened. Our darling Labrador finally succumbed to the ravaging effects of canine diabetes. We'd managed that disease with the help of Grafton Animal Hospital for over 3 years. However, when he developed pancreatitis, his body just couldn't recover. The veterinarians and entire staff took amazing care of our boy and called us to let us know his vitals were down. We got there in time to surround him with love, and make that hard decision. They settled us into a room and helped us ease his suffering in the most compassionate and humane way. They respected our grief, and gave us all the time we needed. I brought in a young healthy chicken for an implant. The vet wanted to sedate her and I said 3 times that I would restrain her and just use local anesthetic because gas anesthesia in birds is tricky. The vet insisted on the anesthesia even though I protested and had a bad feeling. The vet overdosed her on anesthesia and brought her back to me dead in 10 minutes. The vet then blamed me for my feeding of my bird, which having volunteered at chicken run rescue for years, I knew was of the highest quality. I was charged for the implant even though they killed my young, healthy pet and now, 3 years later I still get emails and post cards to bring in my birds to their clinic. I would not recommend this vet. I recommend Dr. Scarborough of Providence Square who has even saved my other pet chicken’s life despite her having to have both feet removed. Read Less

I can’t say enough good things about Grafton Animal Hospital. Every staff member has been kind, warm and informative. They treated my dog as if he were one of their own. Grafton Animal Hospital is a wonderful facility! We have been taking our feathered children (parrots) there for years. The staff is so kind and knowledgeable! They have an avian vet on staff and can perform many of the avian diagnostic tests right there in the building, which is important since when birds show they are sick they are very ill and need immediate attention. I have been to other offices where the same tests had to be sent away and took 2 or 3 days to come back. I am also completely at ease boarding my parrot there. They always take great care of him! We started bring our chihuahua puppy, Pepper, here when he was 8 weeks old, for exam and shots, and from the very first time, we were so very happy with the care he received, from the receptionists to the nurses, to the doctors, and the office manager. Approximately 6 weeks ago, Pepper fractured his little wrist, and we've had to bring him in for weekly bandage/splint changes. At first, Pepper was not happy about this! However, we've noticed over the past couple times we've brought him, that instead of shaking and clinging to me when I bring him in, he now wags his tail and gets happy to see everyone, reaching his head out, so that everyone can pet him and love on him!!! So I think that says a lot right there! But, also, these wonderful people are not only super-friendly, and efficient, but they go out of their way to make both myself and my dog feel very good about the level of care he is receiving here. I appreciate how the doctors patiently take the time to answer all my(many) questions, and they really are dedicated to helping me and my family be the best Chihuahua owners we can be! I would like to thank everyone here for doing such an excellent job in their care of Pepper! I especially want to thank Melanie, the office manager, who really reached out and helped us find resources that were very, very much needed and much appreciated at a crucial time during Pepper's recovery!!!!! Today I took my 1 year old Dusky Conure here. I am so pleased with my choice in going to Grafton Animal Hospital. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgable, caring, and most importantly gentle and respectful towards animals. My baby was shown so much love today and is on the road to being as healthy as he can be. They genuinely want to help you become the best pet owner you can be in order to give your pet a long and happy life. I learned more today in one appointment than I have in a year of research. Every question I had was addressed in detail, and I now have numerous sheets of paper to refer back to when I need to. I was given so much valuable information that certainly will make me a better pet owner, and that in itself as a new pet mom lays much anxiety to rest. If you have any doubt about anything, they're here to help you without hesitation. Their prices are incredibly fair, instead of pushing you, they recommend what you should do, and they make it comfortable to your price point, in which you can even spread out the necessities over multiple vists. Being a college student, this is incredibly useful. If you have an avian friend, or any animal, really, this is the place to go. I would like to add that 1 out of the 3 dogs we brought in had something wrong with him. After leaving, he got worse. We called the next day to bring him back in, and he was seen promptly. And then brought him back the day after that, and again, our emergency visit was treated as a priority, which in my opinion was above and beyond the "standard level" care. We are extremely appreciative of the front office for their understanding and making an appt within a few hours of our call. We are also appreciative of the way the back office cared for our dog. Where do i begin.... Ill start guess thanking everyone at the Grafton Animal Hospital for their understanding and willingness to be flexible with my very unique situation. I have two parrots, and i had every intention on bringing them with me on a PCS to Hawaii. The quarantine/Traveling process is very nerve racking and expensive. Unlike Cats/Dogs, owners of birds will not be reimbursed by the Gov't. I called Grafton Animal Hospital after having the Langley Vet Clinic tell me they had no idea how to do a bird import nor could they. Melanie was open and willing to try to help us with the quarantine process. Birds have to be quarantined 7 days prior to arriving to the island. The owner/importer must obtain two import permits, a plant and poultry permit. The poultry permit is only issued to a CAT II accredited vet (a vet who does more than cats and dogs). The quarantine area must be mosquito proof, also the travel carriers must be mosquito proofed has well. Any damage or failure of the proofing while in transit results in the birds being returned to the mainland and the process starts all over. Once the birds leave the the vet we have 36hrs to get them to the Island. Melanie and Emily did their best to accommodate our needs. We were able to visit the birds when we wanted to. They also worked with our flying schedule to pick the birds up outside of normal hours. The process, while stressful for all, went off with out a hitch. I once again want to extend our greatest thanks to the staff at Grafton Animal Hospital and would recommend them to anyone, esp those who are bird owners moving to Hawaii they are pros on the process now.Read Less

Boarding and daycare: my dogs love it here. I feel so relieved knowing that they are not sitting at home all day while I'm working. The prices are great and the yards are huge. It's perfect because my sheltie mix looooves running. I don't bring my own bedding because they have their own beds and blankets that they will provide, which is nice! Grooming: my Maltese mix loves Carolyn and she does a great job with her. My pup normally hates getting groomed but with Carolyn it's just a trip in the park. Veterinary Care: Dr. Raiff is phenomenal and I love all of the vet techs as well. They are very knowledgeable and make great recommendations for my pups. Overall, I love this place. My African Grey Dee passed away on my chest Sunday, 5-31-15. R.I.P. Dee mommy loves you. Dr. Riffe is an excellant Avian vet. Dr. Riffe went beyond the call of duty when she put Dee on fish oil and compounded Viagra which gave Dee 4 more months of life. Dr. Riffe and the technicians aleways answered my questions when i called. If Dee needed to be seen Dr. Riffe said bring her in. The ladies at the front desk are always so helpful and courteous. I brought my sweet cat to GAH. Unfortunately, through all the tests and fluid treatment she was too far gone. The GAH doctor and Staff treated me with such kindness and compassion I never thought I'd get from a vet hospital. They even sent me a sympathy card in the mail! Since then I have taken my other kitty there for a check up and I received the same care and kindness as my last visit. Overall I love going here and this will always be my preferred animal hospital. Very kind, caring and knowledgeable. Unfortunately my poor kitty was much sicker than he wanted me, his mama, or the Dr. Frost to know and died this past week but they did wonderful in diagnosing his problem and starting a regiment of medication which did make his final days better, even if it didn't extend his life as I hoped. (He was far more active and showed normal to remarkable signs of improvement, and I was more concerned with quality vs quantity of life.) Always easy to get an appointment, especially when the animal is particularly sick! And we just received a sympathy card which truly shows how much they cared about my special little boy, OB-kins. :) Our other cat is alive and well and loves them as much as any cat loves the vet... which is to say, he finds them "tolerable". LOL. They keep him in good health, too - despite his best efforts.Read Less

Even though they have "experience" with birds, I would never bring my birds back here. They seemed unprofessional and unnatural handling my birds. After seeing slight improvements on antibiotics after being on for only two days, they insisted that I make my bird get an x-ray to make sure it wasn't anything else. My bird didn't have any symptoms of anything that would even need an x-ray. After over $300, she came back saying there was nothing, and to just continue with the antibiotics....What a waste! In addition to making me pay for unnecessary tests, they forced my already sick bird to undergo a stressful xray for nothing. Instead of offering practical and knowledgable advice, they say "I don't know, it could be a number of things....we have to run all these tests to decide what it is". Honestly, I could diagnose my bird better than these people. And save hundreds of dollars while I'm at it!Read Less

I started taking my dog here after moving to the area. I liked their large boarding facility with ample outdoor running space. Overall the staff  and doctors are nice. My main gripe is they seem to be on the pricey side compared to other vets I have used (and liked) ..... I paid thirty-something dollars for a cone I didn't need. I guess I was probably a little too quick to swipe the card in their super convenient in-room payment capable computer. Also had to pay what felt like extra examination fees while trying to keep all the vaccines and such up to date. I just grew to not trust them based on billing. Read Less
