My experience here with my beloved dog, Gypsy, has been one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. I brought my dog here for an emergency c-section at a cost of $3800. The following day, I noticed Gypsy had not eaten anything so immediately called and was told "We only have one doctor, so you can't bring her here. You can take her to another vet though." This was very shocking to me because I had just paid this veterinarian $3800 the day before. So, I then reached out to other vets with zero luck since it was Sunday. Later that evening, and into Monday morning, Gypsy's breathing began to slow down, and I stood over her while she took her last breath. I frantically began calling Peninsula Referral Center (PRC). The same girl from before answered and I informed her what happened and that I was panicking. She casually told me, "I told you to bring her in yesterday." This was a flat out lie in an attempt to cover for herself. This lie broke my heart and made me feel like it was my fault, which it wasn’t.
Per my request, I was later contacted by the office manager, Karin Fary. Karin immediately took a defensive approach. I told her what happened, and that the girl I talked to had lied to me about telling me to bring her in. She then began to offer one excuse after another as to why she was not responsible, and implied that it was my fault because I "refused a full blood panel before surgery to save money." That was a lie. She also kept repeating the phrase, "well, services were rendered." I was not happy at all with my conversation with her and she then informed me that she would set up a meeting with the board members and get back to me. She finally contacted me a week later. After talking with her, she informed me that she listened to the phone calls and her response was, "well, our front desk told you that you can go somewhere else when you called with concern about Gypsy." And she said because of that, she will not be refunding the money. I explained to her that was unacceptable to deny service after I just spent nearly 4 grand the day before. Not to mention how crooked and immoral it is to charge so much money for a service, and then not be available for care if there are complications afterwards. Karin kept explaining over and over, "well services were rendered, and you were told to go somewhere else, so it's not our fault." I told her again, this is unacceptable. At this point, she AGAIN said she would set up a meeting with the board. This was after she had already told me she would set up a meeting but failed to do so.
A week later, Karin informed me that the board concluded they did nothing wrong and that they are not required to give emergency care to a dog just because they performed surgery on that dog the day before. She said Gypsy died from something completely unrelated to the services they provided. I explained to her that it was morally wrong for turning away Gypsy in her time of need. Again, she said "well, our office did tell you that you can take her elsewhere."
PRC and its 5 board members care about one thing, money. My experience with this place has been truly devastating. If you are experiencing a life/death emergency regarding your pet, PLEASE take them somewhere else. The reason I say life/death emergency is because I'm sure in some minor cases, the veterinarians here can provide adequate care to a certain extent which could explain some of the positive reviews. However, PLEASE see all the negative reviews. They all have the same theme and have tactfully crafted responses from the office manager, Karin Fary. At no point does Karin ever acknowledge any wrongdoing on behalf of her company, and has zero accountability. A company with good values will acknowledge mistakes and make it right. You will not find that here. Attached is a picture of Gypsy 2 days before visiting PRC. She was pregnant and happy and running around the yard. The other is from New Years Eve a couple months ago. I wish I would have known it was my last New Year's with her. Read Less
