We used Pine Meadow Veterinary Hopsital for 2years while living in VA. All the vets are extremely caring and go above and beyond to make you comfortable and informed regarding your pets care. All the staff are amazing and helpful, as well! We recently moved to Germany and had to jump through a lot of red tape to bring our babies with us. They were awesome walking us through the whole process and making the move practically seamless! I highly recommend them as a veterinary practice if you want good quality care at reasonable pricing. Pine Meadow rocks! I was initially impressed with being able to get a same day appointment for a routine checkup for my fat Siamese, Indigo.....who hadn't been to a vet for several years. Yes, BAD pet mommy! I had transportation problems and the clinic was happy to readjust my appointment time. When I arrived, the office staff were very friendly, and Indigo and I were seen almost immediately. The tech was very capable and gentle with my fat boy, and the doc's casual approach allayed my fears about being judged for having a chubby kitty and for having been way overdue in getting him in for an exam. He answered all of my questions and took as much time as we needed. Two final points: 1. The staff didn't pressure me about vaccines or tests I felt Indigo didn't need, and, 2. My huskies love this place and everyone behind the counter love all the animals that come in here, genuinely. They were a bit busy when we visited today to get their yearly shots but it’s nice to know they care to take their time with each pet and are not in a rush even if they are a bit behind schedule. I have had pets my whole life. This is the BEST Veterinary Hospital I have ever used. Of course, the doctors are extremely knowledgeable but you don't often find compassion and a true love for the animals. They take their time and if they don't have an answer or solution to your question, they will continue to research after you have left, to find the best way to correct the problem. I have an 80+ lb German Shepherd. She is very high energy and can be a bit hard to handle at times. The staff at Pine Meadow are great. The young lady who took her back and her doctor were amazing with her from start to finish. They did a thorough exam, trimmed her nails and gave her all of her shots. I originally found this place under Karen Deangelo on Yelp. Turns out she practices here. My usual vet's hours just don't work with my schedule- no dr. on Thursdays, earliest appointments begin at 1030. Yelped, called around, spoke to a friendly person here. She patiently advised they could see me at 900 am on a Thursday. Done. Got directions to make sure I could arrive on time (the Deangelo list is up Yorktown Beach- wrong end of 17). It's opposite side on 17, past Royal Farms, you can see the sign right after the light, before Country (sp?) Grill & my fave Vintner's Cellar. I passed the intersection, made a right through the woods & there they are. Filled out some paper work & got seen pretty quickly. Staff is friendly- from reception, to the assistants & Dr. Freeman. They have grooming, boarding, daycare. A separate waiting area for cats divided by a low wall. Took a scraping on my dog's skin, checked for mites. Clipped her nails as my last minute request & gave me tips along with brochures for effective flea & tick meds for our new location. They gave her the cutest doggie bag for her meds, lol! Felt like a pediatrician visit! There were toys & leashes on the counter. I asked if they could add a slip leash onto my ticket. They were complimentary! I like free. Talked about Office Space & using unruly technology as piñatas while waiting to check out. Loved my first visit, hate that we are moving out of state. I scheduled to pick up my dog at 8 in the morning, after being gone for four days. I had to wait over 20 minutes because he supposedly had an accident, walked through it, so they had to give him a bath. They brought me out a wet dog. He had new scabs on his nose, his elbows were raw, and had torn the skin off the bottom of his paw. None of which I was offered an explanation for. We returned home where he struggled to have a bowel movement. As I was watching him, I noticed a small amount of blood coming out of his anus. Pine Meadow is an all around great Vet. They've taken care of both of my dogs for several years now and have honest veterinarians, great customer service and fair rates. The ladies at the front desk do a solid job and provide excellent service. We regularly board our dogs and have worked through an ongoing illness with one dog requiring regular visits for blood work and veterinary exams. Dr. DeAngelis and Dr. Mullen have both been exceptional throughout this process. They've returned phone calls after business hours and guided us through the decision process for treatment options while helping us keep a practical and economic perspective. My husband and I took our Akita, Spartacus, here on a last minute appointment. We were beyond pleased with the service that we received and with how friendly the staff was. Everyone was very welcoming and professional. Spartacus was getting so much attention, he was loving it! He had been throwing up and having bowel issues so we wanted to get him seen right away. Dr. Mullen was very knowledgeable and I think Spartacus got the best care we could ask for. He really took time to examine Spartacus and run some tests. Dr. Mullen was very sweet and affectionate with our dog and Spartacus took to him very well. Overall, the cleanliness, service, and staff were beyond what we had expected. We definitely plan on returning and also want to thank the hospital for the care and hospitality we received. Pine Meadow Vets are like family to us !! Dr Mitzel has been our pets veterinarian for about 15 plus yrs. 10 years ago we had to put our poor sweet Davey down . Dr Mitzel came in on his day off with his assistant and were truly like family to us. It was the hardest day of my life ! It took me a year to recover before I got another beautiful lab ! I have been taking my dogs here since they were pups. Yesterday was the hardest day of my life when we had to put my beagle to sleep..... The doctor was so wonderful, kind, and patient when explaining what was happening. She made a terrible day as easy as she possibly could. Including sitting down with my kids and explaining what was happening to them. The assistant was very sweet for giving my kids snacks and looking after them so we could concentrate on our dog and be there with him. My dog Odie is missed so much and our family is dealing with the devastation of losing him but I am forever thankful for the doctor and staff. We moved here from Richmond, VA and we were looking for a good Vet. Our neighbor suggested Pine Meadow Veterinary. I am so glad she did because they are a wonderful place. All the people that work there are so nice and caring. Dr. Mitzel, is so wonderful with our little dog Nikki , he has never been scared to visit him or the hospital. We also board him there when we go on vacation. Knowing that he is well taken care of makes our vacation a vacation because we don't have to worry about him. Dr. Freeman is a wonderful Doctor I highly recommend him for any of your pets needs. The office staff are very friendly and professional. They process you in and out in a timely manner. The vet tech are gentle and friendly with animals they are family. However I do NOT recommend Dr. DeAngeleo she was very rough with my Chichuahua she was taken his temperature and broke his tail I have X-rays to prove. True fully she should not be associated with this team she is more a hender than an asset to this organization. I would not stop going because of her but I will NOT let her touch my animals. Dr. Freeman is the best vet I've ever been too! Would recommend him to everyone!! Although I absolutely cannot stand Dr. DeAngelous or whatever her name is. I saw her once and she broke my chihuahuas tail, said she didn't but it shows up as broken on an X-ray done afterwords on the same day. She still claims it is not broken but I am a Med Student and a Virginia Emergency Medical Technician and I know for a fact it was broken. My family has been taking pets to Pine meadow for at least 30 years. When Dr Cupp was there this was an amazing clinic. Since his retirement however not so much. It appears that over the last 10 yrs they have been motivated more in the pursuit of money and convenience rather than caring for their customers. Several times I was turned away as it was not convenient for the Dr to see my pet. So I was told to go to the Emergency vet. When your pet that you have been bringing into the establishment for 10 yrs is at a potentially end of life situation. You want that decision to be made by the person who knows the pet. Then the same situation has happened yet again to my Mother. She called because her 15 yr old Aussie cold not get up and needed to be seen. She had a raw spot on her leg that was bad too. The vet is in but can not see her. Take her to the Emergency vet. She wasn't asking for him to come into the office, he was there. One would think after 30 yrs 6 dogs,4 cats and 2 litters of puppies they would be a little more accommodating. Not to mention the other dog,cats and puppies the rest of the family and referrals we have brought into this clinic. It's very sad that the money and convenience factor is the top priority in this clinic. They are awesome capable Veterinarians as long as you don't mind being a dollar.Read Less

Just took our dog, Bronx, to Pine Meadow because he was lethargic and licking a lot around his hind end. My wife, daughter and I were very happy with the vet Dr. James Mullen. The vet practice was recommended by a neighbor and we're glad we took his recommendation. The cost was of the visit was fair. Mullen was very pragmatic in his diagnosis and treatment. Which saved on the bill. He did say if this treatment path doesn't work we'll have to take a more 'heavy-handed' approach. He was honest and forthright. Which I am appreciative of. (Our last vet just seemed to be concerned with trying all these different treatments and tests which add up quickly, and were not concerned with my ability to be able to afford it or not.) I did not give a 5 star rating, because this was my 1st visit. However, I'll be moving all my animals to this practice. Read Less

I should have written this weeks ago. Thank you to Dr Mitzel and the entire Pine Meadow staff for saving Kimber's life. She came in to the office in very bad shape and we didn't think she had any chance to make it . With the expertise of Dr Mitzel and staff, Kimber has a second chance at life. Words can not express the way we feel about the people who work at this hospital. We are pleased to report that Kimber has been adopted by a wonderful family in the Newport News area and she is thriving in her new home. She is loved and cared for. Without your help, this family would not have known the love of Kimber and she would not have known the love of this family. If I could choose 0 stars, I would. We brought our 10 week old black lab puppy in for his second set of puppy shots and a puppy check up. Our puppy check up consisted of the Vet looking at his teeth and checking for a cleft palate. Shots were then administered and we were quickly shoved out the door. The Vet even forgot to worm him, he had to catch us on the way out. Our second visit was because of what we believed to be an adverse reaction to a Hartz home flea fogger. Our dog was acting frantic and hiding. We brought the fact that we had flea bombed the house, but they ignored the statement. Instead they believed it was an adverse reaction to Frontline that was recently applied, even though he had no reaction before. They bathed him and charged him for an examination, even though no exam was done. Then a few days later, when our pup was still acting the exact same, they told us that we would have to pay another examination fee because an exam was not really done before. When confronted about the how they ignored the fact of the flea bombing, they tried to tell us that it was never brought to thier attention, even though that was the reason we brought him in earlier that week. I wouldn't even recommend this veterinary hospital for a New York Sewer Rat, let alone anyone's beloved pets. Read Less
