This is not my normal vet office, but I needed someone to help put my doggo to rest, and they were very accommodating. First off let me say the staff was kind and caring. The people that work there have a genuine care for the animals and the humans that bring them in. They had a special room in the back where we could be with our doggo in his last moments without having to go through the main lobby and wait with the other animals. They allowed us plenty of time to say goodbye, and explained the whole process every step of the way. They treated our doggo with dignity and respect and made a very painful day as smooth and peaceful as possible. Great people, have been going there for many years for both dogs and cats. Dr. Weidinger even came to our house to put down our dog who had pancreatic cancer. She cried as much as we did. I have been going to YVH-York vet since 1989 when it was owned by the founder Dr.William Knox ,who has since passed on. When Dr.Weidinger came aboard ,I was cautious as I have had 2 very bad experiences with veterinarians and I am the type of person who doesn't trust people easily. Needless to say I have NEVER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH YVH.The only time was when I had a terrier mix named Sparkle.I took Sparkle in and the veterinarian that was there as Dr. Weidinger and the vet that was also there at the time (I don't remember her name)were not there (they were on vacation )The veterinarian that was standing in for them did not help Sparkle AT ALL-She recommended that Sparkle be euthanized due to her heart murmur and like a dummy I listened to her.Looking back I sincerely wish that I had waited until Dr.Weidinger had seen her. I was there today with one of my pit bulls RUE who I transferred from Denbigh Animal Hospital and Dr.Weidinger treated her and as usual the treatment that I recieved was the outstanding service that they give to everyone who comes to them.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YVH TO ALL MY FRIENDS WITH PETS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A VET HOSPITAL. UPDATE: I have a new male feline furry baby / "baby brother" for Buddha-Man, named Wackadoodle - a sweetie peteetie domestic shorthair with the classic white-on-black "tuxedo" pattern. I had just had him neutered on Thursday, 29 March 2018, at a "non-profit low-cost spay/neuter clinic," and something went wrong with the procedure there that compelled me to want Dr. Weidinger at York Vet Hospital to check out my little Wackadoodle boy – who was seriously hurting and very miserable. Graciously, compassionately, they "squeezed him in" to their already-packed Friday afternoon schedule and FIXED my little guy right up and even sent him home with pain meds, poor thing (unlike the low-cost clinic, who told me that "they don't usually give male cats pain meds after being neutered....," which didn't sit well with me then, either, and I very much regret that I didn’t INSIST....). FOR THE RECORD, Dr. Weidinger and the staff are just AWESOME with not only my two feline furry babies (Buddha-Man & Wackadoodle), but also with ME - the Over-Anxious Cat Mama type. Dr. Weidinger will always give me a range of treatment options she's considering and she takes careful time to address all of my questions and concerns about anything and everything. I appreciate that she actively includes me in all treatment decisions - unlike experiences I've had with other vets that try to "pressure" or "promote" services or tests or products that my cats may not really need. Because she - and all the staff! - are so thorough, compassionate, considerate, accommodating, and flexible, I really trust that they all have only my cats' best interests at heart. Other favorite aspects I like about York Veterinary Hospital: They have slightly later hours during the week than some vet clinics (close @ 5:30pm ,or even 7pm some nights, I think); They have Saturday hours; They will almost always "squeeze us in" in an emergency so as to avoid a potentially "cool and costly" trip to the ER; They always make follow-up calls after any emergency, procedure, or overnight stay - often by Dr. Weidinger, herself; They send me reminders of upcoming appointments or shots / treatments coming due (or perhaps are past due); and pricing and terms are VERY reasonable. Great prices and if you explain you are on a strict budget they will walk you thru the different options, cost, what may be next step if needed and cost, and overall do the best they can to help you. They graciously accepted an emergency walk-in for my sick cat. Three overnight stays needed. Vet and staff continuously called to inform of any developments and to check-in daily! Provided endearing comments during calls about my furry baby's wellbeing and relieved a lot of anxiety. Pick-up was well informed and painless. Staff called the next day to check on the wellbeing of their patient. HIGHLY recommend based on the extreme care provided. They truly treat your "pet" as part of their family. I've been taking our puppy there for the past few months and I can say at every visit the staff and veterinarian were excellent! When I had to fill out paperwork, the check in ladies held my puppy and were so helpful. The waiting area and exam rooms are clean and professional. The vet made things as thorough and painless as possible for our lab puppy who was uncertain about the whole process. I got great advice on puppy feeding, care, and what to expect. I have trusted my many cats over the past 16 years to these veterinarians exclusively. I have NEVER had a bad experience. Not only is the entire staff friendly and knowledgeable, they are reasonably priced as well. I found Dr. Weidinger through a friend when I worked with a cat rescue organization. And although we moved to downtown Hampton in 2004, I continue to drive to Yorktown to get the superior care for my cats, because they are family. More than once I thought perhaps that it was my kitty's time to go, but I almost always am pleasantly surprised that with the right diagnosis they have gotten well. Even when I have to take one to the ER at night, they always call to see how the kitty is doing, even though they did not see the cat personally. I recommend them without any reservations. Read Less

This is by far the best vet I have ever been to. The ladies at the front counter are AMAZING - you can call for a simple question and they are always willing to explain any and everything to you. I put my beloved dog down and went to visit the vet 2 years later with my new dog -- the lady behind the counter handed me my old dog's leash. They had kept it for me because they knew that I would one day want it. It smelled just like him and I am so incredibly grateful that he was able to find his final resting moments in their care. This is the vet's office I use for my doggie and I really like it. He doesn't feel scared going in and there's usually always a doggie in there also waiting for him to sniff and get his mind off of seeing the doc. Lol  It's a small office which works great for me because that gives it a "cozy" feeling. The wait is never long even if you're coming in as a walk-in or call-in (calling the same day to request an emergency visit)The vets are always super polite and paitient with me when I have my normal "Multiple" questions. As a Dog Rescue, we have been using this vet's office for our rescue dogs, as well as our own personal pets.  I have NEVER been disappointed in the care any of our animals receive.  They staff is kind and knowledgeable.  The Dr.'s are experienced and patient with our rescue dogs.  They have performed surgeries, fixed minor injuries, and even treated severe cases with great care and success.  They are A #1 in my book! Don't understand the review about "caring about the dollar"...??? They are way more reasonable than most. My mom brought her dog here for years until she had to be put down. We were able to be in the room with Gypsey and I sat on the floor and held her while Dr. Weidinger put her to sleep. There was no 'rush' to get it overwith and move on to the next patient. We were given time to hold her and cry. Dr. W. even cried while hugging us and wishing us the best. I take my cat there now and have had nothing but positive experiences. I cannot speak about the other vets but Dr. Weidinger (the owner) is one of the most compassionate people I know and a true animal lover. Oh...and if I'm not mistaken, it is all the staff and vets are female which I find creates a very warm and nurturing environment. Read Less

As a result of Ms Piercy failing to do a full check up on our new kitten and then failing to see the kitten, when I called to say she was ill, the kitten died. We had that kitten one week and I took her to York Veterinary Hospitl two days after I received her for her initial checkup and shots! DO NOT take your animals to this establishment!!!
