First off I'd like to say this care center has been kind to my puppies before. But however with a traumatic incident that I have just experienced, this vet has lost my respect, trust, and my business.
I had recently brought my puppy in for treatment and diagnosis of his vomiting. He was placed in their care from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Throughout the time I had made a couple phone calls for check ups. Every time I ask how he's doing I get a similar response along the lines of,"he's fine, he's happy and vibrant". Around 12:30pm I come in to the vet to check on him. They tell me again he's fine and getting treatment and some x-Rays needed to be done. Fair enough.
Around 3:30 pm I call again to ask how he's doing, the same response along the lines of, "he's fine he's still doing good and happy" so that eases my heart.
As I arrive at 4:30 to pick my puppy up. What I saw was shocking and horrifying. A piece of skin along with the fur had been essentially torn off or ripped off right below his right eye. He was essentially in a terrified state and relieved to have seen family.
I immediately asked the doctor, who was in charge of overseeing my puppy, Dr. Kathleen Koppa on what had happened???
The response I received from Dr. Koppa was "I don't know" and "he might of scratched himself on the cage" and persisted it was nothing and perceived to walk away. At this point, in my eyes as a dog lover my puppy is not a pet, it is almost like a family member. To drop your family member off to a care center and to come back to see that a dime sized portion of their skin was torn away from the bottom right eye would have anyone asking what happened? From my own experience it certainly didn't look like an injury caused by the cage it looked like a dog bite or someone using thief latex gloves and accidentally torn off the skin and hair.
Throughout this debacle I never received an apology. I went back to look at the cages they had kept my puppy. It did not look like anything from the cage could have dug a wound so deep and close to his eyes. But again they persisted it was the animals fault. Again never an a apology. Their next response was, "there's no way we can be with him 24/7 and monitor him every second", that in part I can respect and say okay fine. But what angered me most was when I called earlier to check on my puppy they kept saying he was doing fine and was happy. That angered me. When I received my puppy he was frightened and terrified, nothing like the happy vibrant mood they described. The lack of professionalism throughout the clinic was highly disappointing.
I later on stormed out but I caught Dr. Bruce Singbeil on the way out and I asked him what happened? He pretty much came at me with the same response as Dr. Koppa and went home.
The following day I get a call from Dr. Koppa telling me come back to Crossroad Vets to prescribe some antibiotics or creme to place on the open wound.
This in turn fueled my anger, the audacity of them to call me and tell me to make time in my day again to drive back to the vet to pick up medicine they should've prescribed to me yesterday was absolutely ridiculous, the tone I received on the phone was disrespectful and rude. I later hung up.
A few minutes later Dr. Bruce Singbeil himself calls me up to apologize on behalf of Dr. Koppas non professional way of handling the situation and again requested me to bring my puppy back to the Vet to get the creme and medicine.
As I arrive it was Dr. Koppa who greeted me and my puppy and finally apologized but her tone was again rude and sarcastic, at the end of it she slammed the clinic door behind her in such an unprofessional manner that it personally disgusted me.
I personally called Dr. Bruce up to the front of the clinic he in turn was polite and respectful and we were able to sort out the whole ordeal.
I again personally will not be going back to this vet and will be billing my medical bills to them from a different clinic who will check and treat the eye injury received from Cross Road Vets.
