My pup and older dog go here and every single time we go we end up paying more than $100 for medications or tests. My older chihuahua has never given me any issues util i started taking her here and the pup has been coming here to get vaccines and de-wormed. each medication was insanely expensive. I feel like we are being taken advantage because we are young and our dogs are our children so we are willing and able to cough up the cash if it means they will be cared for. However they have both been on medication for "skin allergy" nothing is working for them. I feel like they have not diagnosed m kiddos correctly and have been looking into other vets in the area. While the rest of the staff is fine, the doctor is the worst vet I've ever met. I've been here 3 times and each time leaves me incredibly frustrated. Not only does the doctor appear to not like animals (what kind of vet doesn't like animals??), but she find more things "wrong" with your pet that require extra money. This last time I went I knew it was a mistake but I couldn't get into my normal vet in time. My dog had been playing with another dog who likes to nibble at his jowls. He ended up getting his skin irritated because the other dog was constantly playing with the same spot. I took him in just to make sure it wouldn't get infected because the area was sensitive and he didn't want me to touch it. First, she accused my dog of fighting. I had to tell her 3 times what happened. Then she insisted (without actually looking at the area) that he had dermatitis and it must be from scratching. I said no because he NEVER scratches his face. She asked me 4 different times about him scratching his face, clearly not believing even though I had already told her what the irritation was from! Finally she asked to take him to the back so she could soak and clean the area. She came back a little later saying he was throwing a fit about them shaving his face. Shaving. Not soaking and cleaning like she said. Of course he's going to throw a fit. She mentions she didn't find any puncture marks from what she could see. Obviously. I told her what the marks were from already. Then she told me he had an ear infection so she thinks he was trying to continually scratch his ear and ended up just scratching his face. Seriously???? I told you he hasn't been scratching his face!!! I asked her why she thought he had an ear infection. She got very offended and said condescendingly, "Because it's red and he doesn't want me to touch it." Wow. Great diagnosis, DOCTOR. At this point I'm frustrated because clearly nothing I'm telling her is making an impact. She tells me we have 2 options- put my dog under and shave the area better to see what's going on (I already know what's going on but she's convinced it's dermatitis) or take him home and bring him in the next day after giving him antianxiety pills. They wanted over $400 for the cheaper option! I said no, all I want are the antibiotics which is what I originally came in for. They looked at me like I was a terrible person who clearly wanted the worst for my dog. I took him home and guess what?? He's perfectly fine. The very next day he's letting me touch his face and clean the area. Plus, turns out, he doesn't have an ear infection. This visit cost me $200. Them partly shaving his face cost $40! Do not go to this place if you actually want help for your animal or if you don't want to pay for procedures that aren't necessary! Read Less

Every year we come back for an annual checkup they remember our cat and all the details of his accident and track how he is doing. On June 27, 2016, we brought our very ill cat in to be euthanized. Since the beginning of this year we have spent over a $1200 in tests and ER visits trying to find out why she is peeing and throwing up all over our home daily. So far, all testing has been inconclusive.  The vet tech came in with the necessary paperwork to sign to have her put to sleep. She said she didn't think Dr. Curran would have a problem with it since we have had her in for these issues and she is not getting any better. Dr. Curran then came in and proceeded to be very condescending to me about the care and keeping of my pets. She said Baby's issues are behavioral, and that our cat needs a less stressful home, but maybe she could run more tests. I see this as an attempt to milk more money out of a cat that has some serious issues, and said as much during the visit. She then informed us that she isn't comfortable with euthanizing our cat, and that it would be better if we took her to the Humane Society or P.A.W.S so she can have the chance to be in a better home.  We find this to be extremely hypocritical; as if that is going to be less stressful?  She is nine years old! She has severe peeing and throwing up problems. NO ONE is going to adopt her. Older pets with health issues never get adopted. And if you really want to stress out our beloved pet, dropping her off at the Humane Society or the disgusting P.A.W.S. filth-hole would send her into an anxiety-ridden, throwing-up-and-peeing frenzy, from which she would eventually die in her own filth. This was Dr. Curran's recommendation after lecturing me about the fact that cats are solitary creatures and aren't happy with other pets (we have another cat and a dog, and they coexist very well). To put our cat in a room with scores of other cats to live a miserable existence until she finally succumbs; is cruel and foul treatment of a most loved pet. Putting her in an environment like that would destroy her slowly, be very traumatic and we will not do that to her. Her health issues are getting worse, and we have decided that we have, unfortunately, reached the limit of what we can spend on questionable testing for a cat who is ailing and aging. Her health has been steadily declining for a year, and we feel euthanizing our pet is the most humane thing we can do for her, and the best decision for our family. The appointment with Dr. Curran has left us extremely stressed and in emotional turmoil. I have had a very frustrating experience at this clinic, and I am honestly blown away by the characters of the people working here. My husband and I took our dog in because our dog broke two of his toes and he had a lot of swelling. They were polite at first, but the first frustration I had was that they made us pay (almost $600) before we were told what services they were providing to help our dog. They did give us a ballpark of what they were going to do, but when it came down to it, they added more stuff that was unnecessary. They put a splint on our dog and wrapped it up, and expected us to come in for the next four weeks to pay for them to change the wrapping and get more X-rays when they already charged us close to $600. They also gave us pills to give to our dog to suppress him and to also help with inflammation. Our dog could barely get up from being so drowsy from the pills and he never wanted to go outside to potty because he didn't have the energy. About 5 days after getting the cast on, our dog started licking his cast and it got very wet so we decided to take it off since the moisture would not be good for him and was causing a fowl odor. As we took the cast off, we noticed 3 open wounds that were not there when we first took him to this clinic. The wounds were deep, very bloody, and you could see so much flesh and bones (this is the reason he was licking his cast). We immediately called this clinic to see if we could take him in because however they wrapped him up or however they dealt with him, it caused him severe injuries and we needed them to help. They told us that they could not see us until the morning, and that if we were really concerned that we would have to take him to an emergency clinic (and pay another vet bill for an injury that they caused). We told them that that is not acceptable because they caused the injury by wrapping him too tight or putting the splint in the wrong spot. All in all, they refused to see us until the morning and told us to keep his wounds unwrapped and to not let him move for the next 20 hours until we would see them. This was very frustrating and very emotional. The next day, we drove almost 45 minutes to another island to see them just for them to tell us that we were rude to them on the phone and that we would have to find another vet to care for our dog. They refused to help our dog who has severe wounds on his already broken foot, and they denied to pay for the damages that they caused us because "you probably let your dog have too much activity and that's what caused the injuries," and that could not be because the medication they gave us knocked our dog out. Very disrespectful people for not taking responsibility for their actions, and causing strive and money loss for services that they did not provide. We took our dog in hurt and we left with our dog hurt even more.Read Less

I'm going to start off with my cats have never scratched, bitten, or hurt anyone. I know how my cats act around different people, situations, and environment. They come to me for comfort. They sleep with me under my blankets. They're my children! But, I've never felt so belittled and treated so terribly for taking my cat in for a checkup, that I scheduled a couple days in advance for a concern of one of my cats ears. We were waiting in the room and my cat hissed once when she saw someone she didn't know coming at hero exams her. So, I got up to try to pet her. They told me to sit down and that I'm not allowed to "help" them during the checkup. I wanted to comfort her so they can do a proper examination. Next, they grabbed a towel, to wrap around her, to calm her down with some relaxing spray, that wasn't working. I insisted that I help, to let me just pet her. They ignored my request. They told me that they're liable for any injury. My response was, "that's my cat, I'm not going to sue or get mad at you if my own animal hurts me, I want to help you guys. I want her to like you. She won't hurt me, she just wants comfort." No response. Exam goes on. She starts getting a little more upset and tries to get out of the towel, so they squeeze the towel harder, especially around her head so she doesn't bite them, choking my cat. And this all happens so quick. I'm almost in tears, listening to my cat meow so loud, as she's looking at me for help. I don't think I've ever been so upset. They finished, walk out of the room with her, paid, and never went back again. Read Less

The Wheaton way veterinary clinic has managed my animals care for about 6 years.  I found them on a whim.  My black lab that I loved, Millie, was on her last leg.  The vet we were taking her to could not figure out what was going on.  Millie kept diminishing and diminishing to the point she could no longer walk or eat.  My plan was to have her put to sleep but I wanted to give her one last chance.  I opened up the yellow pages and told myself that the first vet I turn to is where I'm going to take her.  It was Wheaton Way Veterinary Clinic.  I remember thinking I don't even know where that is and I've lived in this area my whole life.  When I found it I realized why it is tucked just off Wheaton way.  I carried Millie through the door and within 5 minutes I met Dave who is the owner of the vet clinic.  I remember thinking that this guy was pretty young which left me slightly skeptical.  We chatted for about 5 minutes and I told him that I was going to have her put down if there was not anything he could do for her.  He gave her a hand over hand inspection and diagnosed her.  She had cancer in her spleen.  I was pretty skeptical because my other vet had seen her 4-5 times and done blood work, x rays, etc. with no diagnosis.  If I remember right he did confirm it through imaging.  He told me "I can give her 6 more months" .  6 months sounds bad.  However, when you thought you were going to lose your dog right there it was pretty good.  After the surgery she was like a puppy.  The next 7 months were high quality.       I was able to spoil her and I spent a lot of time with her.  When she started getting sick again I was kind of desperate to extend her life again and I really appreciated the fact that Dave let me know in so many words that, it's probably time to let her go.  I appreciated a professional that has a financial interest in doing more treatment but has ethics so high that he ignored that.   Since then Dave has proved himself over and over that he makes calls based on science and not money.  To be fair, most veterinarians are great people and Dave is an exceptionally good person.  Millie's last moment was with Dave at my house in the lawn on a sunny day.  To my knowledge, this was not even a service he offered but he had also bonded with Millie over her treatment.  That sort of care is unique.     Over the past 6 years I and my family have continued to take our animals to Dave and his other wonderful veterinarian Dr. Curan.   I am always confident that my animals are in the best hands.  It's nice to know that if they need a surgery he can handle it.  As a small business owner I know the importance of reputation.  I have learned that putting your reputation out there for anybody is risky and I am very reluctant to do it and there are only a hand full of people that I would do this for.  Dave is absolutely one of those people. Not only does he have the sweetest bedside manner I have ever seen for both pets and the people they own but he is brilliant and goes above and beyond any call of the highest hope of duty to properly and thoroughly diagnose and treat fur babies. Seriously love you Dr. Dave. ALSO....his staff is a wonderful reflection of him and make the experience from start to finish all that more a comfort. Read Less

We have taken our two Beagles (Boogie and Allie) to Dr. Luttinen and his staff at Wheaton Way Vet for the past 10 ½ years. We have always received exceptional routine care. The office is clean and the staff is friendly and caring. Over the last four months I have discovered what sets them apart from other clinics though. In late December of 2012, we took Boogie and Allie in for an annual teeth cleaning. Wheaton Way Vet had discovered Allie had a heart murmur on a previous visit, so when they noticed that the heart murmur had gotten worse they decided to x-ray her prior to putting her under anesthesia for the cleaning. Upon x-ray they discovered an unusual growth on Allie’s left lung. Once the biopsy results came back it was determined that our girl had cancer. We were devastated, but Dr. Luttinen was confident that the cancer had not spread and that they would be able to remove it all. Surgery was performed and within 24 hours our girl was back home with us and is doing wonderfully. You would never know what she had been through just a few short months ago.Last Thursday we took Boogie to Wheaton Way Vet because he had been having stomach issues. His blood work showed low Albumin levels indicating that his body was not absorbing protein. Over the next few days Dr. Luttinen and his staff worked diligently to determine the cause of the low protein levels. Boogie was a very sick dog and during this time we were treated like family by Dr. Luttinen and his staff. Dr. Luttinen provided us with his cell phone number and we were free to call or text with any concerns while we were trying to determine the cause of our dogs illness. At one point Dr. Luttinen offered to take Boogie to his house overnight to keep an eye on him since they do not have staff on hand at night. They went above and beyond, including Dr. Luttinen and one of WWV staff members (Todd – THANK Y OU) coming in on a Sunday (they are closed Sundays) to run blood work to determine if the treatment we had decided to try was working. Thankfully it was and we still have Boogie with us. If it wasn’t for Dr. Dave and his staff at WWV I’m afraid the outcome would be much different.I honestly could not recommend a better clinic! I moved here with my now 5-year-old Australian Shep. mix about 2 years ago. We've been seeing Dr. Curran at WW for several months now and I couldn't be more happy. Everyone at the office has always been very kind and accomodating. I've always gotten detailed receipts, I've always been informed of how much things cost (But I also am one to always ask - I wouldn't ever have assumed a nail clipping would be free as another reviewer here did). I feel like the pricing for visits and medications is reasonable (owning a pet isn't cheap!), the wait has never been unreasonable, and they've ""squeezed"" me in on one occasion for an emergency (my dog had a stroke) and were very comforting and patient with me, as I was emotional and upset. I can't speak about the other vets on site, but Dr. Curran and staff get 5 stars in my book! Read Less

We first brought our precious Bichon to WWVC in early September 2004 when she was 10 months old. Dr. Dave Luttinen and his wonderful staff have always taken very competent and compassionate care of our ""baby"" when she came in for routine care, boarding, or urgent care for much more serious on-going issues. A couple of the medications she needs to take (probably for the rest of her life) have to be obtained from ""human"" pharmacies. WWVC's Senior Veterinary Assistant negotiated with one of those pharmacies to get a reduction to the price if we ordered two months at a time...her efforts save us $30/month. Another Vet Asst. also went the extra mile to resolve concerns/questions with the food manufacturer about our ""baby's"" new diet. The staff at WWVC is like family. We wouldn't take our ""baby"" anywhere else unless we had to in an emergency when WWVC was closed or because they were immersed in helping other people's ""babies"". Read Less

I first found WWVC online, which to me was a huge plus. I had just adopted an 8 yr old GSD and wanted her to have a check up. I was very impressed with all the staff at WWVC. Dr. Luttinen took the time to get down on the floor and look her over. He explained things we should watch for and was very informative. Sadly to say she developed cancer of the spleen. Dr. Luttinen and the staff did everything they could for her. Unfortunately she continued to have problems and we chose to let her go instead of putting her through more pain. They have taken care of all of our furry friends since we moved to this area 5 years ago. In that time they have helped us with a diabetic cat, a Pekingese with a tumor and our Mastiff who almost died from eating a slipper, tennis ball and rocks. They have helped us with the loss of our Merial (GSD) and our Bellie (kitty). I would not think of taking my furry family members to anyone else. One last thing, I know they would love to help every animal that came through the door. So if they have to refer you to an ER or other vet, it must be for a good reason. Thanks again for all you have done Read Less

I had to take my dog to the vet because she had a horrible ear infection that would no got away. She needed new medicine because the first round given did not work. We had spent over $400 treating it the first time and only had about $110 to take care of it before it got worse. Hoping after being loyal customers for 5 years they could take the$110 and let us make payments. They said NO. They cared more about their money than my suffering dog. My sister then took her poodle to them to be treated for a tick bite. They only had a couple hundred for all the tests that needed to be done. They did the work and never let her have her dog back because she couldn't pay it ALL up front. Sent her dog to a shelter and was put down 30 days later because she was not able to adopt it, and nobody else came in to adopt either. Its a horrible play to take an animal. They care more about money then they do the wonderful life you have brought to them. I urge anyone who cares about their animals to please stay away. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

I have been going to Wheaton Way Veterinary Hospital for about 7 years with my dog Allie. Dr. Dave Luttinen is very caring and knowledgeable, as are all the staff at the clinic. Took my Healer in for her 3 year rabies vaccine. They were agreeable but had to examine my dog first. After the fact I found they administered  a one year rabies vaccine, not the 3 year that I went in for, paid for and they agreed to. When I requested why "there was no previous vaccine record so she was give the 1 year so they could follow up with the 3 yeat." Not you pet, your not paying for this, not the agreement that was made. This feels wrong, like a bait and switch that generates more business. I went in for what was needed and they did what they wanted and for a 1 year vaccine the exam made this expensive.  The staff and doctor were proficient but it feels like I was ripped off. Read Less

I should start by saying Wheaton Way is not our normal vet because we live a bit far away "But" they are amazing and kind even to walk in clients. We have had to take 2 of our beloved dogs (Sage and Scout) there to be put to sleep. As heartbreaking as it is, the staff just knows how to make the entire transition as loving and peaceful as possible for both and family alike. When we find out next furry friend this clinic will be apart of our annual animal care regardless of the drive. Read Less

Dr Dave is not only our vet for our three English bulldogs whom he takes excellent care of , he is also a awesome vet for our Bulldoghaven Nw fosters. Just one experience that was the most amazing exsample of a awesome vet, We took one of our fosters in for her spay , Nares and Elongated palate common surgery for the Bulldogs, Maya was doing fine until almost office closing hours when her breathing became complicated. Dr Dave did not think it would be wise to send her home so him and his staff members in their own time reguardless of any after work plans any of them may have had took Maya and transported her to Poulsbo emergency while we followed behind so that Maya could get the proper care she needed, If that does not tell a person what a dedicated Dr and staff this is, I don't know what does. We work with Wheaton way on a regular basis and are always so impressed by how clear he is and how he explains things so detailed and so well. We are grateful for Wheaton way for all the care they give our dogs and the fosters . Best veterinarian around hands down!Read Less

I have used the Wheaton Way Veterinary Hospital for my cats for 8 years now. The staff is very understanding, polite, caring, and efficient. They have taken care of our needs for our cats, and I am very pleased with their services. I never feel rushed and I know they love their jobs, just by how they treat my cats. I would highly recommend this business to others. I have nothing but good things to say about all of my experiences there. The Vet, Gayle Curran, has taken the time to call me for any questions, or concerns I have had about the treatment of my cats. Please consider using this establishment for your pets health care services. Sincerely, Liz Felton Read Less

I have never had a more positive experience or had so much faith in a vet. Not only does he have the sweetest bedside manner I have ever seen for both pets and the people they own but he is brilliant and goes above and beyond any call of the highest hope of duty to properly and thoroughly diagnose and treat fur babies.

Read Less
