We had a 2:30 appointment recently within the last week, my 12 year old cat, butters, had somehow gotten an abscess on her cheek and hadn’t been eating or drinking for at least a day. I, being a concerned cat mom, made the appointment knowing they closed at 4. I had been quoted $57 over the phone for the vet visit and everything after would be added on. In the end it was about $79.50 just for the vet to see her, and all he did was check her temp, and look at her cheek. (the surgery to open and drain the abscess was about $600 or could be given 2 shots for about $177). My best friend who lives on the other side of the state offered to pay for the vet visit and medication. she was asking about information on weather or not the shots Butters would be given would be worth it or if the surgery would be better (she’s talking to one of the vet techs at this time) the vet tech proceeded to say “let me look into my crystal ball, yea I can’t see into the future”. The phone was then given back to me, my friend was appalled by the way she was spoken to for asking simple/reasonable questions. It appeared that the vet tech was more worried about getting the money for butters shots, because they charge extra if they go over 4 pm (at this time it’s almost 3), then answering reasonable questions.. altogether I wouldn’t recommend this place due to the unnecessary rudeness we experienced. My husband took our dog here for an ear infection, the vet said he has a yeast infection in one ear that could be treated and an inner ear infection in the other ear. He said we will need to do surgery on that ear you have 2 choices one is $500 the other is $800 which I recommend, you need to decide what you want to do before I treat him. He did not give him anything for the pain and did not treat the other ear even. I told my friends and they said we haven’t heard much good about that Vet you should get a second opinion from our Vet (Deer Park Vetrinary Clinic). So after work I took him there the same day. They treated the one ear and gave me prescriptions for the other antibiotics, anti inflammatory and pain pills, and only charged me $110 bucks. I gave him the pills and he got better almost right away it has been about 3 weeks now and he is doing just fine with no surgery! The other place by the way charged us $260 for an examination and tests and did nothing at all to help him! Read Less

I warn as many people as possible to avoid this vet clinic. I will never take an animal here again. Even if it is dying! It's cheaper to let it die at home than take it to a stressful appointment that will cost way too much $$$$ for a fake treatment! He wants your pet to stay sick so he can continue to make money off of you. Unfortunately, I had to have my own horrible experience with him before hearing the same story from several long time Deer Park residents.
Here's the long story:
When I was new to the Deer Park area, I took my sick colt in to see Dr. McGaffey. My colt had an infection in his joint that usually costs about $300 to treat at a respectable vet clinic. I knew what my colt's problem was but wasn't familiar with the treatment options (which allowed the Dr. to take advantage of the situation.) He told me he wouldn't treat my colt without doing $1000 worth of testing first. (This is not an exageration!) When I broke down crying because I didn't have that kind of money, he had the nerve to ridicule me for thinking this was going to be a cheap appointment! He sent me home after charging me about $400 for the appointment and a tiny bottle of antibiotics. Fast forward 2 weeks, my baby horse is almost dead and I've given up hope thinking I've done everything I could possibly do. As friends hear my story, they are shocked to learn I took my colt to see Dr. McGaffey and I start hearing horror story after horror story. Even though I was out of money and hope, my friend convinced me to call Deer Park Vet Clinic and tell them my story. The vet knew exactly what the problem was with just my description and only charged me the cost of the medication. With 1 treatment from the other vet clinic, my baby was cured 100%!
Even if there are no other options, I will NEVER take an animal back to Deer Park Animal Medical Center because as my friend said, and I can now testify, it's better to let them die at home for free than pay lots of money to draw out their suffering at the hands of a money hungry vet. Read Less

If I could give less than zero stars, I would. This is the most unprofessional business I have ever encountered. The staff's concern is pushing product, not taking care of your pet. They want blood work and other unnecessary tests done when all that is needed is a wellness exam; you end up spending anywhere from $150-$500 on a visit when you could've gone to a much better clinic and spent $50 at most. To speak to my most recent encounter: I asked (over 10 days ago) for my dog's records to be faxed over to a new clinic. I lied and told them that Deer Park was just too far for me to drive in the winter (I believe I spoke to Lisa) at which point I was told they would be faxed over. This morning I took my dog in to get her shots updated at my new vet office and was told my previous clinic did NOT in fact fax over her new records. Again, I state that 10 days has passed between me requesting them be faxed over and my dog's appointment with the new vet. To make the situation worse, the Deer Park office is closed for the weekend and most likely for MLK Day on Monday as well, meaning that the earliest possible date I can receive my dog's records is Tuesday Jan 17; 13 days AFTER my request. I understand being upset about losing a client, but to behave in this manner is just so childish and not at all professional. I now have to schedule another appointment for my dog to get her shots, however, I can't actually schedule anything until her records have been faxed. If you value your pet you so lovingly care for as a family member and the money you work hard for, then I implore you to choose a better clinic than this one. If I could sum up the people (the doctor included) and the business as a whole in one word, I would use: GARBAGE. Do not waste your time, your pet's anxiety or your money on this clinic. You and your pet deserve so much better! Read Less
