I took my 97 lb Pitbull in for a routine neuter by Dr. Dreewes and ended up having to get his scrotum completely removed from a hematoma that occurred prior to taking him home with me from this vet’s error/lack of attentiveness. After getting his scrotum removed from another veterinarian, it was clear that the left side (blood vessel, vein) was not sealed properly or the seal had burst and had formed a huge clot in his scrotum. His scrotum was enlarged to about three times the size of his testicles. After the neuter on Tuesday, Dr. Dreewes told me that it was just a clotting issue and to bring him home, which I did, trusting she knew best (we had two follow up visits the next couple days). On Thursday after the check up she said it was fine and he was on the mend. By Sunday, the swelling had gotten worse and my dog was leaking fluid and blood out of his scrotum and in serious pain. Monday morning he didn’t eat and barely wanted to move. I went to the other vet hospital to see what they would do and she suggested a scrotum removal surgery because the tissue was or soon would turn necrotic. I then proceeded to go back to hometown hospital to see if they would fix this issue and suggest doing the same. The vet here (after seeing how enlarged and oozing it was) said she would not do the scrotum removal because she was afraid there would not be enough tissue to stitch him back up because of the swelling. She is either not confident in her surgical capabilities or doesn’t do surgeries often. The other vet that removed his scrotum said she had to take more tissue than expected but didn’t have any issues stitching him up. All I can say is this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had considering this is supposed to be a common, easy procedure. Her lack of attention to detail and thoroughness could have killed our dog or seriously hurt him beyond repair. She has now had at least two hematomas after conducting neuters (she told me it had happened before when I asked). A good vet will likely never have had a hematoma occur after a neuter unless it occurs once the dog is at home and disturbs the area or is too active. Please don’t take your dog here, especially for a neuter. Read Less

The word AMAZING is an understatement. We are a low income family and had an emergency with our small dog, Daisy. They told me everything I needed to know over the phone before taking our little girl in. I was expecting that when I got there they would perform services on our dog without my consent and our bill would be large. Instead, they didn't do anything without talking to me first. I told them my budget and they did everything in their power to prioritize the services given and still made sure my bill was no more than I requested. Nick was perfect! He was a messenger between Vet and myself and nothing was lost in translation. I didn't feel judged, and now feel like there is someone I can trust to take damn good care of our babies. Thank you, Hometown. We WILL be spreading the word! Read Less

I have been taking my animals there for almost 2 years and the staff there has been excellent. My oldest does not like the vet - at all! They are so caring and so patient with him that he allows them to exam him. My youngest will let you do anything - he is a pushover for a treat. In 2015 we a had that was very ill and we didn't know what was wrong with him - they did tests but kept it within my budget and let me know all my options and walked me through everything. In the end - my cat passed away on my way to a different vet...the reason for the 4 stars. Several times one of my animals needed care on a Saturday morning or at 4:05 during the week. Or I had a follow up question for care that I had received, and they are closed. If I hadn't received such bad service at the other 2 vets in Deer Park I would probably take my service to Deer Park Veterinary Clinic. (A few issues with them - won't go into it here.) But overall I like Hometown Vet - I just wish they had better hours. AND they sent me a condolence card after they called to check up on our cat. Read Less

My large dog has been patient 14 years. In 2009 the new owners tried to charge me a new patient fee. I let it go. Been working with Dreeves to keep dog healthy. Always extra money needed for blood tests to clean her teeth and pain management. In the last year with my dog with pain. I was told at least twice that when I was ready, we would give her the shot to put her to death. I called 6 months ago to find out the prices. Approximately $100. for the shot and $100. for a group cremation. Now I finally decided it's time. My dog can't walk or hold her pooh in. I called to get an appointment and they said I would need to get another exam $36. and if they think she is good they won't do it. They decide. Not me! This is not an easy decision and I would be horrified to get turned away. We had an exam 2 months ago.. again Dr. told me when I decide. But that is not true. I asked them to please help me. Not charge me more. They said no. When I was begging I said ok I might have to shoot her myself and she said I could not do that and that they would call scraps on me. The problem with this is I live in Stevens county and the laws are not the same. When I said this to them, she said.." I know" . I told her it was a threat and she said ." That's what I'm supposed to say". The rest of the story is I have an appointment with another clinic and the price is $60. for the shot and$ 55. for group cremation. I believe they are all about money. I feel so hurt. I'm sorry to ever have worked with them. Read Less

I'll start off by saying we won't take our dog anywhere else. They are very accommodating when our dog is having issues. The staff is very friendly. However, they are absolutely awful about calling when they say they will. If they have your dog all day and you are worried about him and waiting to hear something, don't plan on them calling - you will need to call or you won't hear any updates. Don't plan on them calling with blood results that they said they'd call with either. Make sure to look up what time they close so you can be sure to call and follow up before closing. Otherwise you're stuck waiting all weekend before you can call and find out why your dog was having issues. Read Less
