Peninsula Pet Hospital Doctors and staff were personable, kind and gracious. The care that we received for our dog was all that we could have wanted . Not only did we receive condolences and hugs as we left after we decided to put our girl to sleep but we received followups from the staff to see how we coming along with our grief and was sent a card signed by the staff with seeds to plant in memory of our dog. All along the way they were helpful in answering our questions and recommended various options and provided what I considered to be a very common since and practical solutions until all possibilities were exhausted. To be completely forthright and honest after just one visitor, Peninsula Pet Hospital is out 'GO TO' place for the care of our three Chows and one cat! After some bad experiences and breed stereotyping, we've reunited with the best Vet we've ever had the pleasure of working with! You can't really teach care and love for your animals, you either have it or you don't and Asta Tobiassen definitely has IT! I had an excellent although very sad experience with Dr. Tobiassen  and her staff on March 3 when my supposedly extremely healthy eight-year-old male cat suddenly had what I thought was the seizure. I rushed him to Penninsula vet hospital which was just down the street and was immediately responded to and treated with incredible respect and compassion. They saw me coming, met me at the door, and rushed my cat to the back where they attempted to resuscitate him. Unfortunately they were unable to do so. Dr. Tobiassen explained what had happened with extreme patience and empathy. Evidentally male cats often have undiagnosed heart disease which can create a blood clot, causing sudden-death. The information she shared very much matched my cat's sudden onset of symptomsI noticed what another reviewer said about the vet not examining her pet in the room with her. In this situation that would not have been appropriate but normally I would want that as well. I plan to go there and request that general exams are done with me in the room but I must say I was very impressed and appreciative of the genuine warmth and compassion they demonstrated.They truly understood that my cat was a family memberand treated the situation accordingly. We have three dogs and take them to Peninsula Pet Hospital. With three knee surgeries, we could not ask for better care for our pets. I take both of my cats here and i love this place. One of my kitties was super sick a while back and they took such good care of him. They let my husband and i come visit him while he was staying there and the vet called me daily with updates. I can tell the staff really cares about all of the pets they treat by the way they handle and talk to them, and thats the most important thing to me. I took my Yorkie to this facility for the first time earlier today. I was in and out. The staff, nurses, and doctor were all very friendly and seemed to love my dog. The building was older and a little unclean but I'm sure that has come over time. The doctor seemed very nurturing and knowledgeable, and she treated my dog with kind hands. One thing I have to say bothered me very much was that anytime something had to be done (anal gland expression/two vaccines) they took my dog away from me. I had no idea if what they said they were doing was actually done and I'm sure it scared the crap out of my dog to be in a strange place in strangers arms being poked and prodded at. I've never been to a pet hospital that has taken my baby in another room to do anything to her, it's all been done right there in front of me. Although the overall experience was fine, I'm not so sure I'll be back due to this very reason. It just makes me feel very uncomfortable. Read Less

After Dr. Waters left I was not sure I wanted to continue on with Peninsula Pet Hospital but I'm glad that I did. The front desk was friendly and efficient. The nurse and doctor that attended to Elvis (my cat) each spent quality time with him. We did not feel rushed. I was very happy with the medical attention Elvis received. Peninsula Pet Hospital has all new vets. Gypsy my cat and I have only met one of them. Dr Emily Moren was just as helpful and knowledgeable as the previous owner. More prompt in calling us with the results of blood tests. Read Less

For numerous years we have gone to Peninsula Pet Hospital for our furry family members and for the last 15 years Dr. Waters kept our animals in prime health. She has left the business but Dr. Tobiassen has taken over and she has done a wonderful job with our pets. Sadly, we lost our 15 year old black lab the day after Thanksgiving, but Dr. Tobiassen & the staff on duty that day were very kind & compassionate to us in our time of heartache. Thought I was going to have to have my dog put down since he was doing so poorly. Took him into see the vet and she felt she could help with some treatment. I have brought several pets to Dr. Waters and she is a wonderful vet.  It is clear that she loves animals and her job.  She takes time with them to make sure that they are comfortable with her.  She anticipates questions you may have or things that may arise at home and gives you information so that you won't be concerned if something happens.  They have a pet care plan that makes routine vet care affordable and the office staff has been helpful and nice.  After reading the other reviews here it looks like her office staff was a problem in the past.  I can say that I have gone here a few times in the last 8 months or so and have not had these experiences so that issue must have been resolved.  I would definitely recommend Dr. Waters. Dr Waters, is a wonderful veterinarian. When I had to have my cat put to sleep, she and her staff were just wonderful. They were very sympathetic, and you knew it was genuine. I now have two dogs and a cat, and I will take them to Peninsula Pet Hospital for their care. The only trouble I have had there is recently, when I had a concern, and the woman at the front desk was rather flippant about it. I've never had that problem there before until now. Read Less

Dr Waters is the best. My parents went there for their 2 cats and dog for their whole lives and now I take my two cats there. I have one very sickly cat who is a regular and I think we have figured out the root cause and solved her problem. Dr waters does such an amazing job with her and makes time to see her when busy and goes the extra mile. She truly cares about my babies and wants what's best for them and will make sure they are treated well and get them healed. We moved to Gig Harbor a year ago from California, and almost immediately had an emergency - of course one day before we were to be out of town for several days. Dr. Laura had been recommended to us by our new neighbors, and took our doggie immediately and performed the needed surgery. I called to price spaying for my dog and actually talked to Dr. Waters on the phone. The price for her service was higher than I wanted to spend, however, they offered payment options that worked for me and after listening to the differences between her accreditation and what I might be getting elsewhere, I made an apt. Upon returning for our follow up after she was spayed, I suspected that my dog had a UTI. When I let Liz (the receptionist) know she said, "That is not something that you tell us at 2pm the day before a holiday weekend." I had been having an extra hard week as it was.. and to be talked to like that- jokingly or not- was uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. My dog started showing symptoms the night before the apt and of course none of this was planned. This is the second time that I have been frustrated with the customer service from the receptionist. Dr. Waters seems like a great doctor and she really took the time to answer my questions which I appreciate, however, the humans need care and compassion too. We won't be returning. Read Less

Overall: Dr. Waters is great! Some of the staff are nice, but some others should work on their "bedside manner."Our dog tore his dewclaw pretty badly. We had to go to Peninsula Pet Hospital because our usual vet wasn't open.The receptionist that was working there that evening was condescending and rude to me. Here was her attitude, "You will need to call us after 2PM tomorrow to make sure your dog made it through surgery." I was pretty surprised that I would have to call them, so I asked, "I need to call here, no one is going to call us after his surgery?" Her response was, "No... You are going to have to call us. We're going to be really busy tomorrow and no one will have the time to call you. That's why I just said that you need to call us after 2PM." Woah! Easy does it.She had no sympathy to the fact that I was worried about my dog. The vet tech wasn't much better. She informed me that I should leave my dog there overnight and that they would do his surgery as soon as they could in the morning. I asked if anyone would be there over night, and she laughed at my question, and said, "No, he'll be fine!" Thanks again for making me feel like an idiot.When we picked him up the next day, both sides of his snout were red and raw, we guessed from him trying to get out of the cage. I guess the staff didn't  notice, because they didn't mention anything about it. It was definitely noticeable, too.His surgery seemed to go fine, and his paw healed great.Dr. Waters is a wonderful vet. She called a few times to check on Jude and was very helpful. She also explained that she was with him until 10PM that evening, so I feel a lot better about that. She also gave me a FREE post-check-up because she wanted to make sure he was healing properly. She also was more than happy to take a look in his ears when I expressed a concern. I really like her. We're considering using this place as our permanent vet, but I just hope I'm not treated like an idiot by some of the staff. Read Less

They take the time to explain everything, including available options for the care of your healthy or ill pet. They treat you and your pet like family.
