They took time with us on each appointment and never rushed. And it is so obvious they are there for the animals. While I appreciate the concern and care from the staff I am still scratching my head at the recent interaction. A few months ago it was decided to put my dog on 10.8mg of apaquil. The original prescription cost $265 for a 2 months supply. This week I picked up a refill and for a 2 month supply the cost was $142....I questioned why the price difference? Originally, I was given 112-5.4mg pills. The refill contained 60-16mg pills (of which I was instructed that I would ha...ve to cut as 16mg was to high a dosage) ....but both are a 2 month supply. It was explained to me that the cost for them of each pill is the same no matter what the dosage. So, why didn't they originally just give me 60-16mg pills...and I would cut them...and save over $100... I feel very taken advantage of. See more Read Less

A sign of a great vet is one who sits on the floor with her patients.  I have only encountered this type of interaction one other time in my dog's 12-year life (the other time was abroad). I was impressed with Dr. Rice and her team from start to finish - from the warm and welcoming feel of the lobby and front-desk receptionists to the vet tech's curiosity and care, to the patient rooms and interactions with Dr. Rice, herself.  They take the time to get to know your pet, making short- medium and long-term healthcare recommendations and considerations. Completely unprofessional. We scheduled an appointment to have a growth removed from my dog's back leg and they set the appointment in a few weeks time for 7:45am to drop him off and said they would call us back with an estimate of the cost. We never received a call with the estimate like hey told us and we called them 3 times asking for it only to be finally told the day before the appointment by a very rude lady that the doctor would give it to us in the morning and we were hung up on! I arrived promptly at 7:45am and asked for the estimate and was told the vet would be right out. After waiting for 20mins I was finally told the vet wasn't there yet. When the vet finally arrived she looked at my dog for all of 10 seconds and said it would be a 15min procedure. Another 10mins of waiting and they produced an estimate for over $800 for a 15min procedure. We left without having the services done for that price. If you want to charge $800 for a simple 15min procedure that is your choice but follow thru on what you say you will do. I started bringing my dog here because I was looking for a vet that showed that extra special care to make sure my dog was relaxed and comfortable. I had been upset with our previous vet on multiple occasions because of how awfully they handled my dog - acting like they didn't even like animals and getting frustrated with her (she's ridiculously easy to handle). Dr Rice and the vet techs go above and beyond to make sure she feels comfortable. I feel like they truly care about her and do everything they can to make our visits a positive experience for both of us. My cat had what sounded like congestion. So to play it safe I took him in for a check up. At the end when the Vet was giving me her "diagnosis" she informed me my beloved cat had a tumor in his abdomen. I began to sob uncontrollably. This was based on a physical exam. It was then that she suggested he have x-rays and blood work. This was on a Friday. I had to wait for the results over the weekend. Needless to say I couldn't get out of bed or eat. All I could do was cry. When... she called me Monday morning she informed me all the tests came back NEGATIVE for feline leukemia or any other type of cancer and all his organs looked great. She thinks it might be something he ate LIKE HIS FOOD. I was soooooo relieved, but the grief I experienced due to incompetence or GREED is incomprehensible. Even though I know now he will be fine, I can never quite get it out of my head. In the end, my vet bill went from $70 to $600. I know better safe then sorry, but don't tell me my cat likely has cancer without the facts!! See more Read Less

I took my dog here for several years before we switched.  Although the bedside manner of the staff there is gentle.  They were very good at calming my nervous little dog.  They were short on the preventive care. We took our dog there for all his medical needs but they neglected to discuss preventive care, Bordatella of which my dog seemed to get frequently in spit of being vaccinated, and other shots that were part of his care before coming here.  They don't seem to treat the dog as a whole and don't bring up preventive care at annual checkups. We switched vets after that. I recommend this vet office and Dr. Rice all the time. They are extremely good with animals on an emotional level... my big 90lb malamute mix gets very anxious at the vet (I mean, come on, it's the vet) and they were extremely patient with him, using treats to coax him into relaxation. And they didn't feed him those cruddy "hypoallergenic" biscuits made of hydrolyzed-this and byproducts-that. They also didn't try to upsell me on anything-- at one point, Dr. Rice told me, "You don't need to get his (common vaccine) done here, you can go to a mobile vet for a better price." Impressive! A lot of vets will just try to lay on the sales. This hospital is also much more open minded to the idea that not everyone feeds commercial kibble diets. I felt comfortable telling the assistant what I fed my dogs. I will return here for any treatments larger than common ailments or situations (vaccines, ear infections, etc.) because I trust their advice. I do agree that their prices are a bit high. But I think you get what you pay for. Read Less

EXPENSIVE!!$$! The staff were lovely and the facility clean and in a great location. Sadly their fees are way too expensive. To compare, our favorite vet we have ever had was about $115 for an annual visit and vaccinations ($230 for both dogs). Our most recent visit at Issaquah Vet Hospital was $183, PER dog. We spent $375 to take two dogs to the vet for an annual check up! Price comparisons to our vet up north: physical exam $49 vs $69. Bordetella $15 vs $38. Lepto $24 vs $43. Even the nail trims were expensive $25 vs $33 at Issaquah Vet.  Hunting for a good vet is hard but we will get back on the search for a vet a bit more reasonably priced. Read Less

We just adopted a puppy a few months ago, and our friends recommended this place to us. They have been taking their 2 dogs here for many years. The place looks like a sweet, small business, not like a chain vet hospital. They honored the Humane society's free first check up, and did a thorough check up. I have visited twice more, once for a routine booster shot, and once because of a health concern. Dr. Joan is very knowledgeable, and spends a lot of time with us. She patiently answers all our newbie questions and concerns, without once hurrying us. For those who are wondering, Routine check ups are around $60 and booster shots are around $40.I am very happy with the knowledge and service I have received here. Read Less

We moved to Issaquah two months ago and I've been looking for a good vet in the area for a long time. Finally based on reviews here and there also the fact that my cats don't like to ride in a car I decided to try IVH (10min from our house). Dr. Kim Rice is a very nice vet and one thing I like about her is that she isn't pushy. My kitten had a Feline distemper vaccine at 15 weeks at our old vet and the old vet said he should get another one at 18 weeks because blah blah blah. Dr. Rice told me that it's absolutely fine to leave it at 15 weeks, anything after 14 weeks should be sufficient and she doesn't like to over vaccinate. The technicians and receptionist I met were really nice too.  The only thing that I wish could be better is the price. This place is more expensive than my old vet. Read Less

Read Less

Dr Rice is a fantastic Veterinarian who in my experience will always put the health of your animal before her ego or monetary gain. She cared for several of our animals at her previous clinic (years ago) and we followed her to Issaquah when she came to this practice. We've since moved to Oregon, but eight years later we've never found a Vet like her. Read Less
