I brought my cat in twice for some minor issues which were explained away with no objection from me. The first time I saw Dr. Bower who was very polite, kind, and patient with me and my cat. I had no issues with that visit. She is the only reason this isn't a one star review.
On my second appointment several months later, I saw Dr. Thomas. She near immediately got into an argument with me about my cat's diet and was very rude and condescending. She laughed when I said I switched diets after one of my previous cats died of pancreatic cancer. She had no tact. It matters not which one of us was right, simply that her behavior was unacceptable.

I have had good experiences with VCA Lacey Animal Hospital and they have taken good care of my little chihuahua in the past; however, I had a recent experience with them that made me decide to switch vets.
I scheduled an appointment to have my chihuahua looked at because he was having spasms in his neck and having random, non-localized pain. My chihuahua was hit by a car two years ago and made a full recovery, but the veterinarian (at Lacey VCA) warned us he may have spinal disc issues (due to the acute trauma) and that if he had symptoms we would need to bring him in again. Two years went by with no problems, but he suddenly had spasms and other symptoms that made me suspect he was having spinal issues (after ruling out diet, weather, and the poor air quality because of the recent Canadian wildfire smoke). I brought him in last week and the veterinarian who checked him told me she did not think anything was wrong with him (she took his temperature, observed heart rate, respiration, did a light reflex test, and checked for localized pain). She told me it would be extremely unlikely his symptoms were related to a spinal injury. I felt defeated when I left because I knew my pup was in pain and the veterinarian discounted what I had said, even when I provided his history and symptoms. The symptoms became worse over the next few days and I decided not to go there again because of their skepticism; I took him to another local vet, described his symptoms, and they immediately took x-rays. My new vet confirmed he indeed has a spinal issue and began treatment immediately. I felt at ease having a veterinarian listen and identify the cause of my dog's pain so we could get treatment for him. I was disappointed that VCA Lacey wasn't as attentive to this issue. I am glad I went elsewhere to get the proper treatment for my dog. Read Less

I don't do this often and it takes a lot to really make me mad enough to take time out of my day and rant, but I would have to say putting my dogs health in danger ranks pretty high up there for ways to piss me off.
2 weeks ago I brought my then 8 week old Shih Tzu puppy to the Lacey Animal Clinic. The breeder (a family friend) was paying for it for his first round of shots which is the reason I ended up there and not at my normal vet whom I love.
At first appearance the vet office is disgusting, both in the lobby and especially in the rooms themselves. Coming from Hawks Prairie Vet Hospital where it is clean enough to eat off the floors at any given time, this was repulsive.
But let's get back to the big picture here, so my puppy was coming in for his first visit and round of shots and vaccines the usual parvo and deworming. With this being my third shih tzu puppy I wasn't too worried about the vet being able to handle that.. This was however the first of my puppies that had severe breathing problems some reverse sneezing as well as completely choking himself on his own mucus and temporarily not being able to breathe. Which is just as scary as it sounds and 10 times worse when it is happening to your cute, tiny little puppy. After letting the vet know of my concerns she prescribed him a drug amoxicillan 2 times daily with a little bit of food.
Seeing how I believed I was seeing a trust worthy professional I had no reason to question her diagnoses so I brought him home and that evening began with the treatment.
It only took a couple days before the diarrhea started. It wasn't bad at first, just softer stools than normal and I know that can be normal in puppies so I didn't worry about it too much. Then yesterday about 8 days later he was releasing anything and everything out of his body from both ends.
I immediately called my regular vet whom I love and they made an appointment for him right away. Of course they did the Parvo testing and thankfully the results were negative and as we were waiting for his records from the previous vet to get faxed over I told them how he had been put on amoxicillan. The look on the vets face was enough to tell me they had found the problem.
It turns out that the vet had diagnosed a dose too big for such a young and tiny puppy and it had basically destroyed his little gut. My vet then prescribed him with some tummy meds, pro biotics and a diet of white rice with a little chicken. That evening and $130 later the little guy was back to playing with his big sister and keeping food and water down.
To sum this experience up,
Dear Lacey Animal Clinic,
I am very unhappy with the service that you gave me both at the vet clinic and after. Calling my boyfriend and telling him that, "you were very concerned that we wouldn't book a follow up appointment with you because you know how these things can be forgotten" is ridiculous. I don't know how you treat your own family pets but I know that my dogs are my children and I can assure you that his secondary appointment had already been made with our regular vet. You did however already know that as I let you know upon leaving your facility the day of the appointment, as well as my boyfriend continued to let you know on the phone. The badgering you gave him was unnecessary, but that is neither here nor there.
The horrible customer service both he and I received as well as the mistreatment of my puppy and uncleanliness of your clinic is extremely disappointing.
Anyone reading this review I would strongly suggest that you check out the Hawks Prairie Veterinary Hospital or their sister vet South Bay Vet. Both have a fabulous, friendly, knowledgable and professional staff with beautiful clean facilities. You will not be disappointed.
