I came in last night at 7 o clock seeking help for my cat who had a possibly paw fracture. This hospital closes at 8, and they still made sure to help me in a timely fashion. I had no appointment, I just walked in and they helped me. When the doctor examined my cat she was friendly and treated my cat with care and poise. When it came time for treatment options, she very casually mentioned the prices of the xray and medication she wanted to prescribe. I felt respected even though I am a college student with little to spend on vet care. All in all, I felt that the staff were excellent and the prices were fair. We’ve been coming here ever since we got our female cat Ziggy almost 3 years ago. They’ve always been attentive to our concerns and needs. The entire staff is SUPER friendly and very patient with answering any and all questions. We routinely come in for annual care for both of our cats. Our most recent visit is a excellent example of why our family loves steamboat. We traveled from Hawks Prairie which is a long drive for a stressed out kitty who doesn’t leave the house much. We were checked in quickly and brought into the exam room where the receptionist had sprayed pheromone mist that instantly calmed our Ziggy. Then Dr.Cotran came in and addressed all of our concerns with such a caring manner and we were out with in an hour and under $100. After other experiences with other hospitals we will gladly give Steamboat Animal Hospital our business every time, even if that means driving a half hour. WE LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH. Read Less

We have been coming to Steamboat Animal Hospital for over 20 years. Been through several vets as they train and leave to other jobs, or start their own practice. But always find another one we love and trust. They have always been there for us and our fur babies. Even when they have to double book to get our babies in. Never do they send us away. I am not given the option of leaving no stars for this business because they deserve none. I took my 5 year old dog in with two ticks I had removed from her while on vacation because she was displaying symptoms of tick borne illness  (partial paralysis, twitching, lack of appetite, not wanting water, weeping of the eyes, diarrhea ) she also had swelling in her right rear leg, the vet focused on the swelling and took x-rays and had lab work done on her blood. Unfortunately the veterinarian did not have the lab work done to test for tick borne pathogens and even disposed of the ticks giving me no chance to have them tested. I spoke with the vet's twice on follow-ups explaining that my dogs condition was worsening each time and was told this was probably due to the inflammation and not due to the ticks. My dog died in my arms this morning . My Pudge was in excellent health, she had just seen her regular veterinarian a month prior and was in perfect health unfortunately he was on vacation. I will never be able to play with my best friend again. I pray this does not happen to you. Read Less

Big Fat NO. I have always went to Dr. Parker when ever I could, that lady rocks and I love her to death. However I can't always get in to her so the last time in Oct I came home to a pup that could not use a hind leg. I examined it and it did not seem hurt it seemed more paralyzed but I am not a vet, so I made an appointment with them and after a couple of hours A Vet Tech comes out and says well it's a torn ACL, pay the bill and take him home and put him in a cage for a couple of months tell it heals. I threw a fit and said if I am paying this kinda of money I at least want a vet to talk to me and the tech got all mad at me because I was wasting their time so they sent me into a room and I waited for "The Vet", well I asked a lot of questions and was not happy with the answers but I went home and after 2 months I was really bugged his leg never changed and he had zero use so I went to two other vets and they pretty much both said the same thing. He had some kind of clot and his leg was paralyzed and he has lost ALL of his muscle in that leg. Now had I went to a real vet the first time (because you assume if they are practicing they are real vets) then I could have done things differently and saved the leg. This has changed our whole life because we like to walk and walk and hike but he runs out of energy so fast on 3 legs. I wake up every morning with a hugh amount of resentment over this. Please do not take your animal to someone who does not know and does not care. Years ago I took many many animals to that place and it did not matter what was the problem when I picked the animal up it was fixed but now you may as well stop at a homeless camp give them 3 or 4 hundred bucks and ask their opinion because it will be about the same.Read Less

I agree with many of the recent comments. They used to be great but went down hill fast. I called today to get my dog who has been going there for years in for an emergency visit because he was vomiting and was told they had nothing available and to go somewhere else. I said it is ridiculous that they are suggesting I go to another vet when they are open and I should be able to go to my vet clinic. They basically told me the same thing as others have said: what do you want me to do about it? They didn't even take my name or my dogs name to look up his chart, wouldn't take my name to leave a message for my vet to even call me back to discuss my options. Also since their suggestion was to see another vet, they didn't even offer to schedule an appointment when they had one available (although with other recent experiences, that was probably in a month anyway). They seem to treat your animals as a commodity vs. a pet and have decided that having a lot of customers is better than providing good care to those pets.Read Less

I called yesterday to try and have my cat seen for breathing issues. I was informed I can't bring my pets there, probably because of bill owed almost 15 years ago. I didn't get an answer. I asked the receptionist even though I would be paying cash, nope. Not when my daughter called to put in her name either. I'm going to pay CASH. Cat was getting worse. Only 4 years old. Steamboat 10 minutes away. I had to take my cat 30 minutes away. Every minute he struggled more. I had Cash! He suffered so much!! He needed to be euthanized in the end, which I was prepared for, but not the unnecessary pain and suffering. I am traumatized. I had CASH! Read Less

My dog Milo was attacked by another dog. We just took him in and they took us right away. They needed to sedate him for xrays told us what to expect, maybe vomiting, drooling which he did. They told us why things we're taking awhile. Another emergency. They care so much and take the best care of your pet when they are there. They are compassionate . I am so glad we we're referred them. So very impressed with this vet! Our 3 year old lab/pointer mix was sick, they saw him same day. When he was still sick the next day they took him right in and began treating him. IM sitting in the parking lot in complete shock at Dr  Vicky Smiths pretentious attitude. Having worked in animal rescue & rehab for over 10 years as well as King County Law. Im flabbergasted that this individual is considered a resident DVM. Although, I shouldn't be too shocked. They wanted euthanize  a Jack Russell here in September due to kidney failure. He is still alive and well after being taken off of Rymadahl ( which Steamboat Vets prescribed for 7yrs). I would give them a big, fat zero if I could. I am newer to the area but had been taking my critters (2 cats and a dog) to this clinic for over a year. Last August, my 14 yo Maltese was in severe respiratory distress and thus suffering immensely. I waited for the clinic to open. I called and asked for a euthanasia consultation with my vet. I was told she had no appointments. I asked for an appointment with any vet that day. I was so rudely told that they did not have any appointments and I would have to take her somewhere else to be seen. I said, "my dog is suffering greatly this morning and you can't see her for a euthanasia consultation?" The receptionist rudely screamed into the phone, "I don't know what you want or expect from us!" At this point, of course, I was sobbing. I have been a pet owner for twenty years and have never been treated so inhumanely, not to mention how extremely rude the receptionist was. I have never been told by a vet that they wouldn't see an acutely suffering animal. In tears, I called the vet across the street from my house in Olympia. They worked my suffering puppy right in and they had never even seen us. I will never patronize this vet clinic, nor would I recommend that anyone else patronize them either.Read Less

The worst if I could give zero stars I would. If you want to be charged out the ass, treated like crap and don't give a damn about your fur babies, then by all means you should go here. Learning the hard way has made me drive an hour away just to go to a reputable animal hospital that actually cares about me and my loved ones. Our children deserve better, we deserve better. If we are paying so damn much for office visits and lab work, then we should be provided with all information, and when we ask our vet what kind of food should we feed our dog, they shouldn't be able to say, "well I can't tell you that I'm not a nutritionist" Or when I ask why is my dog licking himself bloody, I should not be told, "I don't know why, maybe you should go get him a puppy" Why so I can pay for more bullshit office visits where nobody can tell me a damn thing. What are we paying for????? All of this has happened to me at this place in the past 3 years, plus many other experiences, I have given them plenty of chances. Long overdue review.I have to say I was really impressed with the staff and Doctor who helped my husband & I , and most importantly our pup (Nani) feel at ease and comfortable during our first visit with them.Our pup was pretty excited with meeting everyone and being in a new place. I always tell people she loves humans more than she does her own kind, lol. it was pretty quick and painless . A couple days later I received a phone call from them checking up on Nani and seeing how she was feeling.  (So awesome!)  I then received a welcome / thank you card from them-wow!- How sweet!
