They charged me $49.00 for a small box of diatomaceous earth that I found out later only cost $8.00 at a pet supply store. I'm pretty sure I could get it even less at a gardening store or home depot for instance. What a scam! They said I HAD to have it to get rid of fleas on my cat. They also charged me $128.00 for vaccinations. Do not go there unless you like throwing away your money. If I could give them NO STARS I would. What a rip off! Read Less

It was an okay experience. Went in to get a rabies tider for my pup so that they could travel with me. Id have to say that the veterinarian was very knowledgable, and seemed to genuinely care about the health of my doggy. However, the front desk tech really had no idea what the requirements were for the tider, and ignored my suggestions on protocol (I've done this before) saying that I needed carbon copies of some forms and some other nonsense. They were supposed to follow up with the results and a tracking ID, but never did. Disappointing service the for high cost. Read Less

I am editing an earlier review I'd written on this clinic. I had many questions about what had happened along the chain of custody of a dog who out of neglect was in very bad shape but is now in my care. It's clear to me that this clinic, Dr. Stewart, and at least one of their Vet Technicians "Hillary" did everything possible for a dog they'd received in very bad condition. They rearranged surgery days, prioritized care to meet owners' budget, and tried as they could to educate. That's a pretty tall order and it appears after gathering all the facts that they met this dog's needs better than most could or would. I'd recommend them for your pet's veterinary care. Read Less

They performed emergency surgery on our pup Jimmy, on a Saturday and did a wonderful compassionate job. I felt as at ease as one can leaving him in their care, even though he had never been seen there. They explained everything and took the time to prepare all his medications and a little chart to help us keep track of it all. He is home recovering well. Oh yes, they took over 1/2 pound of hair ties and other random mostly plastic looking things out of his stomach. and he was only 15 pounds going in! Thank you so much for taking such great care of our little guy and us!! Read Less

I recently visited an out-of-town friend for a day who, due to medical, transportation and financial issues, was unable to get their cat to the vet for treatment. Kitty had a severe flea infestation and skin infection issues, so I made a phone call. I was able to call this clinic - on a Saturday -, and get an appt for that same afternoon less than 3 hours after my phone call. Poor kitty was miserable with itching and discomfort, and had lost a lot of fur and weight over the previous weeks. The staff when I checked in were polite and efficient, the technician who took kittys vitals was gentle and very competent, and they even had a nice cat tree in the exam room for her comfort while we waited for the vet to come in. Note this is a cat who usually becomes a blur of teeth and claws when at a vet, or with someone she doesnt like. When the vet, Dr Nathanial Stewart, came in, kitty didnt even give him an evil eye or hiss, throughout the entire examination. Dr Stewart was patient, thorough, and gentle, he discussed options, offered suggestions, and is a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. We wound up leaving with a freshly flea-bathed cat who had been treated for fleas both orally and externally, treated for a secondary ear infection, had her skin tended to and claws clipped, as well as medicated shampoo and ointment for continuing care, and a jar of enough carpet flea powder to effectively treat my friends entire apartment. Much to my pleasure and surprise, the total cost was under $400 for everything. I would highly recommend this clinic, and in particular Dr Stewart for anyone, at any time.Read Less

Poor experience... long wait time... was oversold on a bunch of stuff that I didn't come in for. My dogs skin has been bad and could be a combo of either fleas and or mites. They didn't do a skin test and didn't really explain anything to me thoroughly. I did however get charged $50.25 for them to shave 5 areas and wash them.... total rip off. I also walked out with a bag full of shit I don't think I even needed. They came back with a $600 bill I could not believe it. I had to tell them no and when i did they said i could apply for care credit. Also gave me  Pills that I need to somehow cut in half for my dog because she's supposed to have a half portion. Overall I am very disapointed that I chose this vet. I should have known from the parking lot that this place was no good. I trusted the good reviews and unfortunately I had a terrible experience. My dog received very good care at West Olympia Pet Hospital, and I highly recommend Dr. Stewart and staff. A few reasons why; Dr. Stewart diagnosed my dog with giardia, which had been missed at another local pet hospital. This had been an ongoing problem for my dog, but my last vet said she might have a dietary issue so I tried numerous different expensive foods and she continued to have diarrhea- until treated for giardia! Further, Dr. Stewart spent a lot of time explaining other medical and care issues, which was very helpful. Finally, he provided a treatment plan with all costs listed before proceeding. I really appreciated this. It was always a surprise (unpleasant) how much I owed at my last vet until I checked out at the end of the visit. The rest of the staff was exceptionally helpful and courteous as well. Overall, a very good experience. Read Less

Dr. Gabby went over every detail and explained to us the different effects of the vaccines and medications we were getting, and soothed Fig completely. Dr. Gabi Szwajkowska is easily the best doctor I have ever seen--not only best vet, best doctor. Although I know she must have a busy schedule, she never appears to be in a hurry. She takes her time with my cat and me, giving detailed explanations, listening to my account of his symptoms, and encouraging questions. I know she truly cares. She does an excellent job of explaining diagnostic and treatment processes without dumbing it down, but also in a way that's easy for a layman to understand. She cites up to date research off the top of her head, and you can tell that she really knows her stuff (and not just about medicine either--she remembers my cat's particular details and quirks at each visit).Dr. Szwajkowska is also clear about which diagnostics/treatments are most necessary and which are "just to make sure" type things, which I appreciate because--coupled with her clear and thorough explanations--it makes me more secure in my decisions about my cat's care.Another thing I appreciate is how clear and detailed her documentation is. She sends me home with relevant literature and a run-down of the treatment plan. After my most recent visit, she emailed me a 5 paragraph summation of the various diagnostic steps to take with treatments, including a link to a credible website where I can read more about feline asthma. This is so helpful, because while I understood everything she said at the office and had clear instructions on the medication itself, I can now refer back to the exact diagnostic process we discussed and not worry about forgetting anything.Last year, my cat became life-threateningly ill with some kind of mysterious ringworm/infection/poisoning ordeal. She went above and beyond for him. I'm sure we overstayed our appointment's time slot multiple times, but Dr. Szwajkowska never seemed bothered. She did extra diagnostic work that she did not charge for and consulted other vets. I was very anxious and gave her lengthy explanations of changes in his symptoms, exactly how I implemented the treatments, etc. She listens so well. Even though some of what I was saying was probably irrelevant or expected, she never interrupted or finished my sentences, and she addressed all of my explanations and questions thoroughly and with gravity. We never quite figured out exactly what the issue was--it got worse before it got better, but my cat recovered wonderfully. I'm sure she saved his life, and she made that awful experience infinitely easier for me to navigate.Everything in the cost of each visit is laid out in an itemized list, and while vet bills add up fast no matter where you go, the prices here are reasonable. Dr. Szwajkowska also makes sure to go over the list with me every time so I know which item corresponds to which treatment, diagnostic, or medication we discussed.Medicine is often tricky and convoluted by nature, so the importance of a skilled, intelligent, caring doctor who is also an incredibly effective communicator can't be overstated. Dr. Szwajkowska is all of these things! I know I won't be going anywhere else for vet care. Thanks! Read Less

I took my dog in a year ago and had a HORRIBLE experience. My dog is shy, which isn't uncommon for his breed, and the vet did NOTHING to make him feel comfortable. My dog was tense and crying the whole time the vet was wrestling with him to give him his shots, which was traumatizing for both me and my dog, then he told me that I'd obviously done a bad job socializing my dog and should take him to training classes. BUT HERE'S THE BIG ISSUE: the vet completely brushed off my concern about the way my dog had been shaking every once in a while, saying it was fireworks. When I told him my dog isn't afraid of fireworks, he said I can't possibly know that. Today, at a new vet, I found out my dog has been having SEIZURES. It breaks my heart to know that my beloved dog friend has been having such frightening experiences all this time, and the vet at West Olympia Pet Hospital COMPLETELY DISMISSED IT. I highly recommend choosing another vet. Read Less

I recently moved to Oly from Federal Way & needed a new vet for my 14 yo diabetic cat. I thought I was going to like this place after the doctor did a good job of cleaning Cinder's teeth, and he correctly identified that her insulin dose was a little too high. She definitely feels better on the lower dose. Unfortunately, my subsequent visits have been a hot mess. The associate who saw Cinder for a rash recommended a long list of unnecessary tests and a preposterous treatment plan that involved shaving her mostly bald, then smearing her with a greasy ointment twice a day for several days. Price for all of this came in at over $400. I took her across town to Healthy Pets, where an older more experienced vet actually listened to me and prescribed the treatment that has worked before, resulting in quick resolution of the rash at a much more reasonable price and without destroying my furniture. Finally, I can't understand why this clinic can't sell me the proper syringes for my cat's insulin. They have failed to order them for me on two different occasions and then tried to sell me the wrong size. I could easily have accidentally OD'd my cat if I hadn't been paying close attention. Really liked my experience. After awhile my cat was so comfortable she just sat quietly on the exam table while we waited. The office is clean, bright, and quiet. Two "ambassador" cats wander the waiting room and greet everyone and ask for pats. (I'm told they are calm around dogs and nervous card. They were polite and quiet near me and my cat. One got a little close to my cat's carrier so I simply moved her and she maintained her distance.) The staff was gentle and knowledgeable. The doctor was a little slow, but thorough and attentive. He answered all my questions and talked to me for a long while. I'd much prefer waiting an extra ten min for careful care. Prices seemed reasonable. The receptionist will give you a price for the exam on the phone and after the exam, the tech will bring you a full quote of all the meds/labs/etc that the dr recommended and you're free to select the procedures that you want to pay for. (nice way to avoid sticker shock). When I went in, a wellness exam was, like, $40, vaccines were about $25 each, procedures and labs were more, chipping was $50. Call for current pricing. Read Less

The veterinarian "explained" to me that my dog needed an antibiotic because wherever there is inflammation (my dog had a tender area), there is infection. As a physician (which the veterinarian didn't know) I very much disagree.  It is not the standard of care to over-prescribe antibiotics. I haven't been to this vet for three years now. The reason why I left was that the staff are very unprofessional, including the vet I saw. I'm a first time cat owner and both my cats hate going to the vet no matter how much I try to make them comfortable. So I whisper to them and hum songs quietly to them to calm them down because they like it. The front desk woman I could always tell didn't like me and she was often kind of rude but the other staff seemed nice.My cat was pooping blood so I took him to the vet. The vet saw my cat. I told him everything I knew surrounding my cats habits and the situation since that was exactly what my doctor requires me to do so she can best assess the situation. My personal doctor encourages me to ask questions and to provide as much information as possible, this vet did not do that and I felt like he was hardly listening and was just going through the motions. He didn't encourage me to provide information he seemed to only care about if the blood was dry or fresh. He told me that in these cases it most always is a food allergy caused by grain or in rare cases caused by something else. The vet was right, most of the time it is a food allergy to grain but I told him multiple times that I give my cat a grain free diet that only used two protein sources. Still he said try switching to a one protein source cat food. I tried to get him to tell me what other possibilities were likely - I was spending a ton of money for this visit where so far he only told me to try a new diet. He didn't seem to want to discuss this and just prescribed my cat antibiotics. I asked a few questions and asked to be told a second time how to administer the antibiotics to make certain I gave my cat the antibiotics correctly since I know that if you mess up it can cause someone to become antibiotic resistant. The vet didn't seem to like this and he behaved like he didn't have time for me inspite of hardly seeing us for something I was paying for.Around when I thought we might be done the vet suddenly left the room without saying anything. He didn't dismiss me like my doctor does. My doctor she makes certain to always tell me that we are done and that I can leave when I'm ready. This vet just left the room. So I waited a moment thinking he might have went to get something. Then coming from the next room I could hear the vet and his staff making fun of me quite loudly. I started crying, calmed myself down and picked up my cat carrier and left. I don't usually care what others think but it hurt to hear something so unprofessional coming from someone I expect to be. I can understand since at the coffee shop where I worked we would joke about some of our customers but we always made certain that they left first.  I just don't think that I can trust them to respect my pets if they don't respect me.We started going to Evergreen Veterinary Hospital after this and they had great customer service and seemed to really care about my pets. They cost a little more than this place but not so much more and their care is much better there. Read Less

I had to tell them no and when i did they said i could apply for care credit. Also gave me  Pills that I need to somehow cut in half for my dog because she's supposed to have a half portion. Read Less

With in 15 minutes of driving I learned more from the people here than in the 2 months I've been taking my cat in for treatment. If you have an animal in need of serious help this is the place to go. Read Less

We have taken our dogs (Bouviers des Flandres) to West Olympia Animal Hospital for as long as we have had the breed, 25 years.  Dr. Mitchell and his staff have helped us through cancer, euthanasia, surgeries, spay/neuters, well dog visits, injuries, illnesses, infections, vaccinations and everything else that has been necessary to keep our dogs as healthy and happy as possible. Everyone there has always been professional, competent and compassionate.  We would never go anywhere else, and don't know what we are going to do when he eventually retires!  We would recommend this practice without reservation. We made a first-time appt with these folks, and they called on the day of the appt to reschedule, saying the doctor had a family emergency.  They rescheduled for the next day.  That morning came, and they called again to reschedule, this time saying he woke up with the flu.  I said that we had already rescheduled, and they said, "oh yes, he had a meeting yesterday, and now he has the flu."  They didn't apologize or indicate that anything was odd about this.  I asked how common it is that this happens, and her response was a snippy, "well he doesn't get sick every day."  I was quiet, and she said we could call another clinic if we wanted.  I said I would get back to her.  I don't plan to use this vet, as I am very unhappy with this.  It seemed they lied about why the doctor was rescheduling the first time, and then they were unapologetic and rude about having to reschedule a second time.  Horrible customer service, and who knows how they would treat our dog! We're deciding to go elsewhere after I asked the veterinarian why he was prescribing two antibiotics. Read Less
