This is a fantastic Veterinary Hopsital! We were able to make an appointment within the week, instead of having to wait months for an opening. The staff here is incredibly friendly and professional as well. We took both our cat and dog, and felt very comfortable with how they were handled. We were there for about two hours, which was very reasonable for having two pets and the amount of shots and medication needed. We were also offered some cheaper methods for buying some of the medications, which helped us to save some money in an otherwise expensive visit to the vet. We also signed our dog up for the Paw program, which we felt was a good deal for an older dog. Read Less

New to the area and looking for a vet to take care of our two dogs we found KVH. Getting their new patient appointments was easy and the receptionist were very knowledgeable. They requested our dogs medical records from our previous vet prior to our visit which was very helpful. One week later we needed to kennel our dogs while we traveled and we boarded them with KVH. Our dogs LOVED their time at KVH and the staff were wonderful going above and beyond taking care of our babies. This veterinary clinic has a great and affordable health plan, it is super clean, friendly and the doctor's are great! I can't recommend Kitsap Veterinary Hospital enough. Read Less

WARNING ABOUT THIS PLACE Took dog in for an abscess on leg looking to find out if it was infected. After testing came back that it was not infected vet proceeded to recommend a $1200 surgery to remove the "dead, rotting flesh" around the wound. (note, the dog was happily running and playing all day) They pressured me to leave him for the surgery that same night warning "I've seen this lead to amputation of leg." At home I put warm cloth on him and the "dead rotten flesh" miraculously wiped away. It was dirt!! They tried to scare me into $1200 surgery over dirt! When they called to follow up and I told them what they'd done they just cheerily said "Oh I'm glad it's better." If they recommend something pricey here GET A SECOND OPINION. Read Less

They're kind, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile to be sure their patients are well cared for. We came in today by referral from Leah after I told her how anxious our sweet Marty can be at a vet or around a group of people. We took him to a vet prior that completely left us on edge and not wanting to take him in unless something was truly wrong ... But knew we had to for his overall health. We were extremely nervous and didn't think we would accomplish anything. We left with exact opposite feelings after our visit! The techs and dr were amazing and had Marty literally eating out of their hands and getting belly rubs! (Okay he's a food and belly rub lover!) he was much more relaxed and calm for the visit than I thought he would be and we accomplished a great deal by seeing what level of care he may need and how we can make it easier for him. He's such a love and loves people and did so well today - thank you SO much to the whole staff for helping making him feel at ease and us as well! We are looking forward to our next appt! So my dog, Diana, has been going here since she was a puppy. Diana deals with anxiety. Please keep in mind that she has NEVER bit anyone or anything. She is a sweetheart.About a month ago she had an appointment for some shots. Dr. Buck came in the room, she addressed the issue of the anxiety and I told her that I had actually been taking Diana to socialization classes and it was improving a little bit. Before the assistant came in the room, the vet told the assistant to not give Diana long eye contact. Of course, the assistant doesn't listen and Diana then barks a couple times at her. The vet then suggests that we reschedule while she's on some calming meds because she didn't want to undo any of the socialization classes Diana had been too. I agreed and left.Today I come back, with Diana on the meds. (note: they CHOSE to give her the minimal amount). We get in one of the back rooms and one of the assistants starts talking to us making sure everything is okay, ya know the normal questions. She eventually gets the shots ready and comes in the room, sets them on the counter, and leaves. This was supposed to be somewhat of a quick visit? I was sitting there and I wasn't sure why I was waiting for so long.. Eventually the assistant comes back into the room, saying that Dr. Buck said that the last time Diana and I had been there, Diana TRIED TO BITE AND ATTACK her and the first assistant. I was like, "um... I'm pretty sure the assistant was staring Diana in the eyes and Diana barked. Not sure why they said that." Then the assistant goes, "well Dr. Buck doesn't want to come in here and have Diana bite her. We can take her outside and put a muzzle on her?" She then went on to say how my dog was showing signs of aggression when Diana was literally laying down beside me drugged up. I was so furious I just asked to leave and reschedule. As I was leaving another dog was in the way. I didn't want Diana to bark at it so I just took a quick turn into their bathroom. As I sat in the bathroom, waiting to get out and leave, one of the workers went "sorry you have to deal with a crazy dogggg, you're not like thatttt." I was so furious they had the audacity to talk like that about a customer behind closed doors. Part of me doesn't even know if I should believe that they are partially treating her this way because she is a German Shepherd Dog. So, let's make something clear, Why in gods name did you become a vet if you don't want to deal with animals who are sometimes anxious and make up bullshit lying excuses and stories to get out of easy situations. Why in the hell would you, dear staff, gossip and talk about customers like that behind closed doors. It's unacceptable and immature behavior. The bottom line, ALL DOGS CAN SHOW AGGRESSION AND ALL DOGS CAN BITE IF THEY WANT TO OR ARE PROVOKED. ALL OF THEM! Also, just because a dog barks at you literally less than 3 times, it does NOT mean that they are "attacking" you. They're talking! Quit picking and choosing and labeling certain dogs as "good" and the others as "bad." Aside from this they are WAY overpriced. We will definitely never come back. Read Less

I would give it no stars if that was an option.  My usual vet, Minter Veterinarian Hospital, could not see my pet who was attacked by another dog day same day, so I went to Kitsap Veterinary Hospital because they had an opening.  They kept me waiting 40 minutes past my appt. time.  When I was told an assistant was getting my room ready for my pet's exam, another regular in the lobby said "that doesn't mean anything."  I noticed they had more products for sale than any other vet I have every seen.  I noticed the receptionist promoting some sort of cat calming product in the lobby. While the vet was examining my dog, and withing the first 20 seconds, the vet started promoting a flea/tick/heart worm product called Trifexis.  "I have talked to vets all over the country and they say the topical products just aren't working anymore. We recommend Trifexis."  My dogs wounds being very superficial, the vet looked at her teeth.  2 weeks prior my dog had been seen by Minter Veterinarian Hospital (Dr. Jeffry Irwin) who told me the dog had 2 broken off teeth, but they were not abscessed and did not need to be removed at this time.  The vet at Kitsap Vet Hosp. told me they were abscessed (she showed me the area and it looked just fine to me) and were likely causing her pain (she has been chewing on rawhides in those spots like crazy, so I don't think so!).  She recommended surgery on the 2 teeth to remove them.  And of course she would need to do x-rays, she might as well clean the teeth as long as she is under anesthesia, and, of course, she would need to do blood work before surgery, so we might as well do that today.  Then she left the room for the up sale that the poor medical assistant's job is to do.  I was then presented with a "Comprehensive Yearly Maintenance dog plan" to cover 2 wellness exams plus 2 additional visits, core vaccinations recommended, intestinal parasite fecal exam, deworming for roundworms, hookworms & whipworms, heartworm test, blood cell count, internal organ functioning screen with collection/interpretation fees, thyroid screen, urinalysis with cystocentesis, comprehensive oral treating for $983.40 with a 1 time membership fee of $49.95.  This isn't even my regular vet!  Next I was presented with an estimate of $297.81 for Trifexis.  Like I have ever spent anywhere NEAR that on flea protection for a pet!  Then I was presented with a tooth removal estimate of $2,016.86, and of course we need to do the blood work before I leave the clinic today of $229.35.  I took the papers and went to the front desk to check out.  I said I intend to pay for today's services only.  At that point the medical assistant came to the front desk and asked if I was ready to do the blood work.  I said no.  Just in case the Kitsap vet was correct that the teeth were abscessed, I then had to spent another vet fee at my regular vet in the next couple of days to find out whether or not they were abscessed.  Dr. Irwin at Minter said they were not abscessed.  Thanks Kitsap Vet Hosp. for the lie, the additional vet bill you caused me to have to incur, and the attempt at getting $3,577.37 out of a client who isn't even a regular client all on the first visit to your clinic!  You will never see another dime from me again.  STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET!  THEIR GOAL IS TO EMPTY YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!  I AM DEEPLY DISGUSTED! My husband and I recently moved to WA and after some very bad luck with our babies (fur-babies) we needed a vet ASAP.   The vet that we originally got referred to did not have any openings that day, so we were forced to go here. Terrible mistake.Like all the other reviews, I wish I had gone on here first and read them... DO NOT GO HERE!  Spare yourself! Our dog had a leg injury - we were quoted $340 when we walked into the lobby.  This was fine by us and was what we had been quoted at other places.  Then they had said they wanted to do a couple more things - then the bill went to $670 - but they did NOT stop there.  After trying to make my dog go through lots of unnecessary procedures and trying to force me to take things for her (she had a scrape the size of my pinky nail on her knee - they wanted to give her antibodies for it!!!!! Which cost $80...).  They took her back while we waited - she came back no better and with a $1200 bill!!!!!!!$1200!  I was quoted $340.  They made me pay because they had already done it to her and would not give her back unless I paid the bill.End of the story?  We ended up taking her to a different vet and paying $400 to fix the damage. ... We called to bring our dog in for an ear infection we got an appointment. We then proceeded to wait for 30 min to be seen. Then when the vet finally came she looked at her ear then proceeded to take samples of skin that was a little red on her stomach that our dog has had her whole life. They didn't ask if we wanted to have the skin tested. They came back in with the estimated cost of treatment telling us we needed all these different things that added up to $675. We told them all we wanted was to get her ear treated not anything else, she didn't have anything else to be treated. I asked for the bare minimum for what she needed to have done for the ear and it was still $475. Just for a shot, ointment, and a medication. But the catch was we couldn't have the shot unless they did blood lab on top of everything. We decided to take her somewhere else. But for the two swabs they took one from her ear and the other of the skin ( that they never asked if we wanted it treated) we still had to pay $122 just for her to be seen!!! Needless to say we will drive the 30 min to Bangor base vet for her to be seen. This place is rip off and always try to get us to get more done then we ask.Read Less

I recently moved to this area and decided to give Kitsap Vet Hospital a try without reading the reviews. My mistake. Over the phone, my first visit estimate seemed reasonable...at least in line with what the vets in my hometown used to charge me. However, once I got to the clinic, I got bombarded with tests and medications that are in my dog's "best interest". I've never heard of a clinic performing urinalysis and blood collection on same day for same evaluative purposes. But as you can imagine, it was on my estimate sheet. What else was on my estimate sheet? Oh, shampoo, conditioner, and medications at 250% of the market value. I declined from the urinalysis and the skincare products. The vet didn't seem all that happy and tried to persuade me to accept everything on the plan of care. When I didn't budge, she went back and talked to the vet assistant about adding OTHER medications to my list. Now, I know you're running a business but please don't try to pad my bill. Her exact words? "Well, she's not doing the urinalysis..." So since I am not doing a useless test, you can push more useless items on me? Great. Long story short, I paid nearly $500 for a 35 minute visit. Not a single one of my dog's symptoms was alleviated regardless of all the medications and the shampoos and the conditioners. I might've as well flushed that money down the toilet. Same result. I am beginning to think my dog wasn't even diagnosed properly which wouldn't surprise me since the vet took all but a couple of minutes to evaluate the lab results. Last thing, the office called me a couple of times to "ask me how [my] dog is doing" and remind me to come in and have more evaluations and get more medications. When I finally told them that I am broke, the phone calls magically stopped and I haven't heard from them since. Thank goodness. Overall, I am obviously disappointed. The vet techs are great and incredibly professional but the vet I worked with...yeah, I am NOT coming back. Read Less

I took my dog in for an abcess tooth and typical Vet they wanted to run unneccessary test, etc. After refusing the uranalysis (nothing to do with dental) we paid $250 just for an exam, standard blood test, and antibotics. Total rip-off.Next came the estimate for the tooth pulling. OMG. Quote started at $500 and went up to almost $900.

We have been coming to KVH for 10 years now and we love them. They are not only wonderful with our pets but also very compassionate with owners as well. I recently had an emergency with my 14 year old cat, Oscar, and had to put him to sleep. I was a basket case! They were so kind and caring to my sweet boy and his upset mama.... I will never forget that kindness. Yes, they are a little more spendy than other vets, but the level and quality of care that you receive is worth it. We see Dr. Lock and she has never pressured us into doing something we couldn't afford. Read Less

My post is no different then the other low ratings, Over charged for a service and tests I did not ask for!!! Really did they need to clean my dogs ears and then test the wax??? All for the shock value OMG my dogs ears are dirty!!!I had no problem paying for a visit and a estimate for surgery, the office visit was supposed to be like $50.00 I walked out with a $280.00 bill and a estimate for surgery  at $1000.00, after I told them this was an outrage they called back and said they could do it for $800... After waiting a month to get my money together I called and said I would like to schedule the surgery they wanted to screw my again for another office visit. I spoke to another business nearby and they said this was common for KVH, they are forcing the dog owners in Port Orchard to extremes like posting on Yelp. Read Less

Needless to say I called around and found a Vet - Bremerton Vet Hospital and had the same procedure done for $187 out the door. I think you can draw your own conclusions... Read Less
