I had 2 dogs one was sick and we had to find a vet being new to Port Orchard. I got an appointment for my sweet baby that very day. It turn out that she had diabetes and had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. Dr Ryan is the kindest and gentlest vet I have ever met. I am a customer for life. Great staff. These people really seem to love every animal that walks through the door, even my two current dogs that hate any vet. They were so nice to my wife when my last dog had to be put down due to late stage cancer. I was surprised by the nice cardboard coffin they sent my dog home in. I was more surprised when I opened the coffin to fin my dog had been wrapped lovingly in a towel. A few days later they called and said they had something for us. It was alright. I can't complain too much for a free exam after bringing my the dogs here from the Humane Society. They have a policy of making pets from Humane Society wait outside until appt. Since it was a hot day they let us come in early and we were directly put into a room. I get that they want to make sure we're disease free, but it sure felt like over kill to quarantine us like that.Front staff were nice but not in a genuine way. They sound tired and annoyed to be dealing with customers. The medical assistant was great, but the veterinarian doctor was just okay as well. After visiting another vet since then, I feel like his knowledge about pet issues could use some updating. The other office gave a more thorough exam of my dogs then this place.I did get a nice email and postcard from their office after the visit. However, they'd impress me more if they took good care of us while we were visiting in person, and not some arbitrary message that lacks true connection with the facility and my dogs. I appreciate them getting me to the bridge I needed to before feeling confident to branch out, but I unfortunately will not be returning to this office. Read Less

Tried to make an appointment for acupuncture for a pet I just adopted and my golden with cancer.  To avoid trips to Poulsbo vet, I had heard good things about Woodside so after reading on their website, called with high hopes.  That was soon dashed.. as I was told they only do acupuncture on client's pets.. ???? if I came in with my dogs, would that not make me a client?  I was not offered to see one of the regular vets to establish becoming a client either.. they just missed out on having an outstanding client that does everything for their dogs including spending huge amounts of money.... I also dog sit and have recommended them from what I had heard.. and gotten them clients as well.  This was very disappointing.. if they are so busy they can turn away clients and not want to help my dogs, perhaps they could let you know that on the website, instead of the website telling you they have this wonderful doctor that does acupuncture so call to get started it does not mention you have to be an existing client.  A vet friend, that knows the owners highly recommended them as well, I think she will be quite disappointed.  she is my goldens at home hospice doctor now.. He advised me about vaccines instead of just loading up my dog with everything like Banfield. Comfortable friendly staff and they always discuss price when giving advice. Love them! I can't say enough great things about this vet.  We left another local vet due to them having astronomical prices and refusing appointments when my wife got stuck in traffic and was 4 minutes late.  Woodside did a surgery on my dog for 1/3 the price of the other vet in town.  They followed up to ensure he was doing well, he had no complications and it went great.  Woodside cares about you, your pets, and is not trying to soak you for every dime you have.  Recently we had to say goodbye to our sweet 18 year old cat and Dr. Mike Van Horn was so compassionate as was the entire staff.  They helped us through a sad day and Dr. Van Horn even sent us a hand written card that meant so much to me and my family.  We will continue to bring our animals to Woodside and will spread the word on how great this place is. Always do take good care of my monsters.  Could definitely use a little clearer information on Recruit's skin condition.  I did not appreciate being questioned about Nemesis' allergy.  I know what my cat is allergic to.  The front desk people need some people skills.  And do not talk about other patients in front of waiting patients.  It is not professional.  If it was not for the incredible doctors and assistants I would not bring my animals here. Woodside takes care of Mac for me and does a superlative job with him.  He has been seen by a variety of the vets there over time, since Dr Mike isn't always available when Mac needs routine checkups.  But all the vets there are great and Woodside has a very well established system and records and all the back up and administration to ensure that any Pets are properly dealt with and looked after. We were recommended by our dog sitter to Woodside, since we were new in the area we didn't know which Vet would be a good match for our pets. We made our first appointment and we could tell right away that this was going to be a great place for our pets needs. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. We saw Dr. B who is amazing!! He took the time to explain everything to us and made sure that we understood everything and was very good with Charlie & Sophie. We recently saw Dr. Reed as well, and he was very nice and made sure I understood everything about Charlie's ear infection. Our dog Scout had an issue that worried us a lot. We are new to the area and needed a vet quickly.  We called Woodside right before closing.  They said they would wait for us and to bring him in. The doctor and staff on duty took great care of him and now our dog is resting at home. The doctor explained his plan of care and the costs associated with the plan. Great place to take your pet! The vet was very knowledgeable, and very nice to my naughty kitten! They gave me a kitten package with lots of good stuff to know about early on diseases and even a first flea treatment too! The cost was very good considering the other places in port orchard. Everything about Woodside is amazing. But add terrible customer service over the phone and it ruins a good 80% of the experience. I called trying to make an appointment this morning for my cat who was showing symptoms of a UTI over the weekend and got a "why didn't you make an appointment earlier" attitude. The girl who I got was very unhelpful and didn't seem to show any concerns for my pets well being. I have a very demanding work schedule and I understand that the animal hospital can be very busy. But you could still show a little more care and empathy for your customers over the phone. I did manage to get an appointment and someone to take my cat in for anyone who's concerned. Blackamus King.A New Yorker like me. 18 yrs old & time to go to heaven.Old age. ( They just don't live long enough!)Before he began to suffer, ( it can hurt to die) Dr Mike saw him. It was obvious,he was dieing. BUT, Dr Mike examined him, checked him out.Took his time so gently. His last physical. He was worth his time. Even though when he looked at him I know he knew.He was WORTH it; Is my point. Really meant so much to my husband & myself. You are in my heart Dr Mike. The doctors and staff quickly identified problem solved my kitty cats illness, provided a logical solution, and within half a day, discharged her healthy and with a new prescription diet that now a week later has positively supported her ongoing happy health.  We truly thought she was going to die and now she is on a successful path for continued health.  Out cat is 16 years old. Used to go. Had multiple things happen that made me change vets. The vet would not listen to me about something that was wrong with my animal. Turned out I was right and it was too late to do anything so he had to be put down. A different time they made me feel guilty for a decision I made on my animal. That was enough for me to switch vets. Would not recommend ever. A side note, I heard someone talk about how their pet somehow escaped from this office on an overnight visit. So, yea no thanks. I have 2 problem children, one cat and one dog.  My Pub had skin issues for a couple of years until we move to Port Orchard and she was treated by Woodside Animal Hospital (Dr. Mike). With a lot of work and patience and knowledge and without the standard "just give her steroids and call it a day" attitude my girl is now in perfect condition and we figured out that certain foods and the extreme wetness of Washington is what was bothering her.  They are great and caring and try to do their very best to figure out what is wrong with your pet without jumping to conclusion and trying to sell you a whole bunch of stuff you do not need. Also their prices are very reasonable. I am extremely happy and the best part are their office hours and short wait times. Also my friends dog is scared of vets and they arranged "happy visits" for free with her. She brings in her pub and they make her comfortable without doing any treatment to get her better used to the vet.All in all awesome! Paws up !! Read Less

Amazing Animal Hospital!!!  I called on a Saturday at noon to ask a couple questions about the way my "outdoor" cat was acting. The lady that answered the phone put me on hold to talk to the Vet, she came back said, "we are already booked for the day, but the Vet would like to see the cat". She asked if I could bring the cat in at 3pm (they close at 4pm)? I took the cat in at 3, the Vet examined him, diagnosed the problem being (an abscess) infection from a bite wound.  Then she gave me 3 treatment options (1- antibiotics & pain meds, 2- lancing & draining, or 3- surgery to cut it out and stitch it up) to consider. Ranging in price from $75, $200, $450. She suggested the $200 option would be what she would recommend, which I agreed with.All costs were disclosed up front prior to any service, no unexpected fees or hidden costs!  After a military discount it cost $180 (that included the exam, procedure, antibiotics, pain meds and a cone for around his head so he can't lick his incision). They loaned me a pet travel carrier (at no charge) and said bring it back whenever you can no rush.  The time in the Vet Hospital took less than an hour. They did say if I opted for the surgery that it would take an hour plus, but they were willing to stay late if that was the option I chose. The staff was very sympathetic to the cat, attentive in every detail and glad we came in.  I highly recommend this Vet Hospital!!! Read Less

This animal hospital is AMAZING! I found these people through Yelp and I was not disappointed. Very friendly yet professional front desk staff. Dr. Heft was awesome and my cat is EXTREMELY difficult to handle. Dr. Heft was very sensitive to her needs and let me hold her through almost the entire examination. Unfortunately I had to return 2 days later with my mom to have her kitty euthanized. He was very sick and other vets had given her what I felt was false hope. Dr. Keena Van Horn was honest about his condition and yet (of course) let my mom make the final call. She impressed me with her compassion for both my mom and her sick kitty. I am 100% sold on this clinic and plan to be a repeat customer (though hopefully my visits will not be frequent!). Read Less

Woodside Animal Hospital staff saved my three month old kitten when she contracted pneumonia after falling in the water dockside of my boat.  She was there for over two weeks.  Everyone on the staff eventually had duty in the 24 hour care of my kitten, as she was in ICU the whole time.  Just a super nice staff that has genuine concern for the animals.  The doctors are first rate.  I can't say enough good things about this vet office.  Cleo, my now ten month old cat, also confirms this 5 star rating. I brought both of my cats here. The front office staff were not particularly friendly. The care seemed okay but nothing special. The doctor know nothing about complimentary/ alternative medicine. I like to try the most natural approach as practical. I got the distinct feeling after a couple of visits that they were more interested in making a profit than giving my pets the best care. I really value the veterinary care my pets receive at Woodside. Whether it's an annual exam, or for something specific, the examinations and analysis we receive are always comprehensive. The vets at Woodside really understand that pets are family members, and treat them accordingly!My cat and dog have been seen by all three of the regular vets at this clinic, and I am impressed with all of them. (I try to see Dr. Keena Van Horn when possible, she's my favorite). :)  Dr. Keena has also been recently certified in acupuncture.The receptionists, veterinary technicians and other staff are also committed to excellent, compassionate care. Every time I call to schedule an appointment, the receptionists remember me and my pets. I hardly ever have to call to follow up on appointments, because I usually receive a very timely call from them explaining any tests performed and their results.Overall, I recommend Woodside wholeheartedly! I have a total of 10 pets, cats and dogs.  My family switched to Woodside Animal Hospital a couple of years ago - after being increasingly frustrated with the level of care at our previous vet.The entire office atmosphere is friendly .. it is very open and clean.  Any time I've for something there have always been professional and courteous people answering the phones and working at the front desk.  The Veterinarians are all fantastic!  I've never felt rushed, questions are answered .. procedures are explained, different options are offered and explained if applicable.  They are wonderful with all of our animals.I've have had experience with well cat/dog checks as well as sick cat/dogs and an emergency when one of our cats had to be hospitalized.  We were allowed to visit our sick pet when we wanted, and when he didn't get better we had to put him down ... they were so compassionate. AMAZING PEOPLE! These people are caring and are there for you and your pet. They don't try to squeeze every dime out of you. My cat got sick (organ failure) and was in so much pain he was sleeping in his litter box so he didn't have to move. I called about 10 Vets to ask "How much to euthinize him." I then asked if I "Could pay half now and half next week". I was told payments are due at time of service. I said "But he is suffering", "Sorry but all payments are due at time of service". So I guess the all mighty dollar is worth more then the pain and suffering of an animal. They also wanted $30 to be in the room while he was euthanized, if you let them take him in back it's free, what are they doing in back that they need to hide? Woodside let my daughter stay with the cat without charging the extra fee and were so reasonably priced I was able to pay at time of service. Read Less

This vet is the best. I have gone to 3 other vets in the area and have yet to see another vet like Dr.Jeff. So my male cat got into a fight about 4 months ago and as a result got an abcess. Well I took him to one vet and he said that he was going to be fine and gave me some meds. 4 months later my cat got another abcess, but it was a result from the first one not healing properly. I took him to Dr.Jeff and he took excellent care of it. Mal is now running and playing with his buddies and it has only been 2 days! I am so greatfull for that hospital. They were very kind and were very considerate when it came to the financial part. I can't thank them enough. One of the cleanest and friendliest places around.
