I recently adopted a stray puppy and signed her up for a Optimal Wellness Plan. The first visit went well, the puppy seemed healthy, free of parasites, fleas, etc. We were given Trifexis to help prevent worms and fleas which is supposed to be effective for a month. Around 18 days later, we noticed worms in the poop. Next day, I took the puppy in to Banfield test for worms. After a few hours, the Vet calls me and jumps in to a very brief explanation that they are giving my dog some medication for tape worms. We also went home with another 30 days dose of Trifexis and the instructions to give the dog the second dose. If you look up the manufacturer's website, they instruct consumers to only give their dog one dose per month. The Vet is telling me 2 doses in 20 days is OK, the manufacturer says one per month. The conflict with the manufacturer's instructions and the vets instructions set off a bit of uneasiness in me so I started to look at the paperwork they sent me home with. I looked up the medication for tape worm (Cestex) that I was sent home with and begin reading through the dosage requirements. Dosage according the manufacturer's website is 2.5 mg/lb for dogs. I have a 30lb puppy and was given 50mg of Cestex. I did the math and it turns out that 50mg is only 2/3 of the medication my dog should have received. I dropped everything and went back to get the other 25mg worth of Cestex. Ultimately, this was resolved and an apology was issued - but I did have to fact check a veterinarians work and found errors as someone with no medical background. I was inconvenienced in having to go back to the hospital, and I did have to ask three times for them to hear me out before they did the math themselves.I head back home and continue to read through the hardcopy medical report from the puppy's last visit. Lab results: TESTED POSITIVE FOR HOOKWORMS, TESTED NEGATIVE FOR TAPEWORMS. At this point I am pretty pissed. The Vet didn't even address hookworms with me. The total extent of our conversation pertained to how they were sending me home with Cestex for tape worm and that was it. Now I am wondering, why wasn't hook worm addressed with me? Why was my puppy given tape worm medication if there was a negative test result for tape worm? We have four total pets who are signed up for Banfield Optimal Wellness. As a reaction to one animal having worms, we call in to ask if we can drop of fecal samples for testing on the other pets. The front desk told us that we would have to bring our other pets in to a hospital. I pull out the Banfield phone app later in the day and make an appointment request, a short while later I get a call from Banfield regarding the appointments, and the message is now you can just bring in the samples for drop off testing. It is really frustrating how inconsistent everything is from this pet hospital. With all of these issues, I began to take a closer look at the hardcopy reports that I have been given for other pets over the past couple months. Some things that were given the verbal "yes we did this exam, and yes everything is OK" weren't even documented in the reports. In other reports, I noticed that blood panel results for our kitten came back with a lot of below normal and above normal results, which weren't addressed by the vet. The inconsistency, errors, poor communication and overall inconvenience from this Banfield site is enough to make us gladly drive to another city for pet care. We're testing out a couple of other facilities before we decide cancelling our pet care plans is the best option. Read Less
